Nandriod Backups & Custom ROMs - Galaxy Tab S Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hypothetically speaking, if I created a full Nandriod backup on a custom ROM would it restore the same as a stock firmware, data and all?
I.e., I'm running tkkg1994's IronROM 2.5 and I wanted to create a backup before I mess around with Xposed Framework. I wanted to know if it's possible to restore to a backup of IronROM 2.5 with all of my settings/apps without going through the painstaking process of re-installing and tweaking UI/apps/settings?
:good:

Just tick everything in twrp and you will have a complete backup to restore.

Would I still need to flash the bootloader associated with the ROM in the backup before a restore?

Backup rom

Hi, I want to ask you, if there is any way to backup whole rom without flashing new clockwork mod?
1) How do I backup?
2) How can I restore it?
Yes, but you do need to be rooted. Have a look at this thread.
Thanks, but I can't see here the answer for my two questions. It's not problem to be rooted, but I don't know, how to make full ROM backup before factory reset and flashing new ROM.

Except for backing up your stock recovery, everything else should ideally be done in CWM.
You'll get Nandroid backup which is a lot simpler to use than the dd command I explain in that other thread.

So, I flashed CWM a few minutes ago, but when I wanna make there backup, it's starting, but then it writes something like: Can't mount... I have to have ext4 partition on my sd card?
No, you don't have to repartition your SD.
What firmware do you want to backup? CWM won't work for 2.2.x AFAIK.

Why you flashed manually with Mobile Odin? The recommended method is to let PmR use the Custom Recovery to flash the MOD. Which recovery do you have installed on your phone? CWM, TWRP?

had CWM, after flashing with odin can't access anything cos of the wipe.
Stupid, stupid me
Stuck at the Samsung logo for quite some time now, what does that mean?
Should i wipe and factory reset or is there an alternative way out?
If you had cwm already then no meaning to use mob odin, anyway if factory reset doesn't work then have to Reflash rom.

had to factory reset, now I have a brand new spanking phone with all my data gone!
Well, at least the wifi and data are both working now, whew
You have a nandroid backup, of course? Try the tools on dr.ketan's signature.
As a last resort, you can try Kies to return to official, unrooted, stock Sammy-blessed state. :cyclops:
And start flashing again, afterwards!

I actually forgot to create a nand backup before messing with the flashing. UGH.
I guess being spoonfed as a previous iOS user has it's drawbacks.
Time to play with everything now that I have such a clean UI
Glad to know that your phone returned to life.:good:
Remember to make nandroid backups regularly.
Good Luck!
I recommend titanium backup or same other compare to nandroid.
Nandroid push you back to original state while you want to test mods and roms, titanium will be much helpful to restore data on cross roms.

was using titanium before, now i can't restore due to my data not being on cloud/sd card.
wouldn't a "snapshot" of my phone now be a better choice for a situation like this?

which app to use for nandriod backups? so far I've seen only CWM/TWRP.
I prefer titanium on ext sd card, bcoz note2 wipes internal sd card too.
Yes cwm/TWRP needs for nandroid.

TWRP seems to be working pretty well, but do i have to extract the folder and back it up on my desktop in case of another full wipe?
TWRP restores everything including desktop but remember it will be same as on day you have created nandroid. Subsequently changes won't have in it.
Sent from my GT-N7100 using xda premium
Oh that's cool! So it really just screenshot the entire phone and restores back to when it was made?
Side note, each backup is almost a GB big, won't it eat up a lot of memory on your phone? As such, which options are best to select when using twrp? (eg efs, data, system)
Sent from my GT-N7105 using Tapatalk 2
Efs is just 20mb, needs when you have messed up imei, it is must in my point of view even if you don't want nandroid backup
data is backup of installed applications
System is ROM, which needs to recover device when you have got something wrong.

[Q] Just got the Note 2.

Hello,
I just have the note 2, and i rooted it with the rootkit i found on xda.
Now i've made a backup with TeamWin, and selected to backup everything.
Now my question is, is this my stockrom now that i back-upped?
And i noticed the counter went up to 2.
And for most of all, can i load custom rom's now?
And if i load a custom rom, will it effect my personal data? If so, how can i back this up and load it back?
Kind regards,
Hoolz14
if you installed TWRP or CWM recovery yes, you can flash roms. to clean the flash counter use triangle away and while you having a custom recovery check the option reset on every boot.
you should also check that
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2093599
it is known that some phones have that issue and maybe yours so be aware of that
hope i helped, bests

you can restore ur backup using recovery..... flash counter went two i think 1 for the root and 1 for the custom recovery.,.,
Make sure you do a separate backup of EFS and you can flash any rom on your device
Triangle away will help you in resetting the flash counter
Awesome
Used titanium backup for backing up my user apps.
Can i restore these on another custom rom?
Thanks everyone for the quick reply's, very appriciated!

Yes, you can restore your app and the data as well. But for some reason, it would not recommend to restore too many data on another rom. But app is ok, just restore as many as you like.

Can you be more clear please?
There could be error restoring if both roms are different. Eg: JB and KK

Are you talking about stock 4.4.2?
Maybe your data is not backed up correctly. Which recovery are you using to restore data?

Just check if you have proper root access?
To access /data root access is required. If you donot have that then there are chances you can get this error.

flash the recovery you made the backup with, flash dn3, boot it up, go back to recovery and try to restore your backup. if it doesn't work get titanium backup. you can restore data out of nandroid backups with tita backup but it isn't a good recommendation as it seems to be a messy way and it takes ages.
hope it helps

And try the int sd fix with dr. Ketan's utilities once too.

I don't recommend backing up and Restore method when you are on custom ROM...The thing is that Titanium Backup is only applicable for the ROM on which you have backup'd that is you cab Restore data and stuffs only on the ROM on Which You have backup'd earlier...Never Ever Restore the backup of 1 ROM to other ROM has it can cause system instability like FC's , Crash, Bootloop... It can cause the NEW ROM to lag and system might go very slow Even though if NEW ROM is fast and lagfree...
