Question on TWRP - Verizon LG G4

Does TWRP work on a rooted, but locked bootloader, Verizon G4?
If so, should I select just the G4 International model when installing?
Thanks guys

Please don't try/do any thing of that sort... Short answer is no. With the status of the bootloader atm, a custom recovery (TWRP, clockworkmod etc) is not possible. Flashfire is about as close as it gets now, and from the sounds of it, you're probably going to want to do a bit more research before you go flashing...

Does that mean I do not have to unlock bootloader?
Just root with purpledrake?
Is there a similar ROm (to CM 11)to flash without all the google and carrier bloat
Flash with TWRP?
Thx

Because the bootloader is currently locked you cannot flash any other ROMs. The only variant with an unlocked bootloader is the D851, which is the T-Mobile variant. PurpleDrake or Stump can help you Root your phone and then you can tweak it with XPosed if that suits you.
Please use the search function before starting a thread as this question has been asked and answered many times.
Did search and read..saw nothing for d852 or I wouldn't of asked
thx for your help.

Yeah, the bootloader can't be unlocked at the moment so you can't put a custom ROM and kernel on it,sadly. Doesn't look like there's any sign of it being unlocked in the near future either.

Well, don't jump too soon it might get unlocked or a workaround may be found. The G2 was never unlocked but the devs found a work around that allowed custom Roms and kernels.

All the stuff about root, now... Silence??

Everyone was talking about wanting, or needing root or their bootloader unlocked, now that we have root, you can hear a mouse fart in our forum. Let's get some ROMS or kernels, and xposed mods going! Where's the excitement people!?!? Lol

That's not true. It means no kernels... There's things like safestrap that allow you to flash a ROM to a different partition, and select either stock, or (ROM name here) from initial boot-up.
The ROM is just the body of the car, (what we see), but to access the motor, (everything that makes what we see actually happen), that requires bootloader unlock ?.

We have no safestrap (developer bailed), loki, or bump. So no custom roms yet. Some devices cannot flash anything without unlocked bootloader. We have only had root a couple of days things will come. I should have been more clear in my previous post, I forgot this is XDA where everyone knows everything already.

Without custom recovery we may not get Xposed, hence no gravity box, but we can hope they get a non-recovery version working on the G4.
If you are rooted and run Xposed you NEED to freeze the OTA update checker, otherwise prepare for a bricked device after an update.
now what if I unroot?

Why would we need a custom recovery for Xposed? I only rooted my G3, nothing else, and I'm using G3 TweaksBox just fine.
All I need on the G4 is a new, updated TweaksBox and I'm good to go. Between that and titanium backup I have my G3 running perfect.
TWRP Recovery has been released for carrier branded devices as of a few hours ago

Currently Xposed for 5.1 requires you to flash it from a custom recovery. 5.0 was simply a file you installed.

We need a bootloader unlock or a workaround like bump on the G3, I haven't heard of any progress with this yet but I'd love to be proven wrong.
I think the main theme here is be patient. We could not have ANYONE working on anything for this phone. Root is awesome. Hopefully bootloader unlock is released soon.
I think the same patients. We just got root im sure they have been working toward a work around since the phone has been released. So eventually if its possible someone will find an exploit i just hope eventually they find something that works for all current versions.

Busybox & xposed? Also Battery tweaks for best life?

Heloo everyone! I have h811 g4 with root and twrp. Can i now install busybox and xposed now? As well to what extent have you guys gone in tweaking for the very best battery life?
Currently, there is no working xposed version for the G4. Of course, this may change in the future.
For the best battery life, I recommend installing Greenify and debloating your phone. Check out this thread to learn what apps are safe to disable. Screen brightness, I've learned, also plays a major role in battery life. The difference you see between 55% and 70% is massive

For me it was very simple. Just look up h811 twrp on Google and it will take you to the dedicated XDA post. Really simple.
Get root
Enable OEM unlock in Dev. Options
Flash 2.8.7.0 twrp img with Flashify
Boom you will have twrp installed.

He just said he has twrp on h811. Which isn't the eu version. Ive read the thread he was talking about and apparently on tmo you just need to check oem unlock to install twrp. On h815, even if u have that option in dev settings, you can't.

What I meant was only the EUR version of the H815's can be unlocked, not that only H815's in general are the only ones that can have their bootloaders unlocked.
Syntax error I suppose! But if you have an SEA version of the 815 or a SWE version, etc. you can't have its bootloader unlocked. But you are right, the H811 and EUR H815 have unlockable bootloaders.
Has anyone with an H815 and TWRP installed tried installing the unofficial version of Xposed? The /system/lib64 folder is still present on our phones and the flow chart here says to install this unofficial version from here

Yes, people have tried it. No it does not work, and the phone bootloops.
Specifically, the problem is related to the custom changes LG made in libart-compiler.so compared to stock android. What needs to be done is have someone decompile the .so and compare it to a decompiled stock 5.1 libart-compiler.so, and make whatever corresponding changes to the Xposed install script for an unofficial custom build of Xposed for our devices.
Frankly, if I had TWRP on my G4 I would look into this myself...but since I have the Verizon version and can't, it's not worth all the bootloops and constant soft-bricking that would occur during the testing process for something like this.

TWRP is only available for the EU H815 which is unlockable on the LG website. or the H811 T-Mobile G4 which has an unlocked bootloader.

If you absolutely want to get amazingly battery life then you can change the governor to powersave. It will run your cores at the minimum frequency so you'll really stretch your battery life. However, you do sacrifice performance quite a bit.

Is an unlocked bootloader being developed?

I know there is an unlocked bootloader for the h815, but I'm just wondering if one is being developed for any other models. Either way, anyone who is involved with developing roots and anything like that keep up the great work! Sorry if this has been asked. If it has can you please give me the link?

Yeah i installed Xposed successfully through flashfire but Xposed doesn't replace the whole entire OS it simply only overwrites a couple of files and places a few new ones. Hopefully a Unofficial bootloader unlock gets released like it did for the LG G3. Once it gets released i will definitely donate.

If you want to use it on Verizon you likely will be stuck on custom roms and Verizon firmware anyways ....without firmware from vzw it won't work and without a rom that has vzw advanced call features built in you will be missing out on stuff.

Thanks for this Tom,
But could explain why you need S-off? What are the benefits of having s-off or s-on?
If anyone can help or point me in the right direction would be appreciated because I think my phone is broke. I have an unlocked HTC 10 (non-carrier), unlocked bootloader, s-off(via sunshine), twrp 3.0.1-0-pme. The phone was rooted but ater a factory reset (s-on during that time) to try to get xposed to work data no longer works. I've done the following at least 3 time each with no change in results: format data, factory reset, flash SuperSU-v2.72-forceencrypt, flash SuperSU-v2.72, restore back up from twrp, re-flashed twrp. Can anyone tell me if I'm missing a step or is my phone useless. Thank you in advance!

yeah this does happen at times you need to restore a stock system image and boot image in twrp then wipe encryption to get your DATA working again.
