Never buying Samsung again. - AT&T Samsung Galaxy Note5

Just wanted to share.
I hate you Samsung .
I hate the note 5.

Hahaha lol

I like the note 5 but AT&T and Samsung can go suck eggs!

My only issue is the stupid fast charge. In tired of gaining wizard points every time I get to to work.

I'm assuming you hate it because you can't root? You can blame AT&T for that one and not Samsung. I love my Note 5, but then again I have root LOL This phone i junk without it. Even with package disabler pro.

I'd love my AT&T Note 5 if I could root it..
Since I can't it's garbage.. think I might go to G4..

Why? Because you can't uninstall apps? The phone becomes junk? The SoC, display, spen, etc... junk? The phone of the year is junk because you can't uninstall apps? Interesting

Your specific example was even with package disabler pro... what else do u need root for? Do u need to overclock one of the top rated CPU? Do you really still mess around with TiBu? IDK. Root doesn't do much for me. If I wanted root, I'd get a nexus 6p. Have ability to root my A9 and haven't even bothered. T-Mobile Note 5 has root... and 6 basic modified touchwiz roms

Yes. Big time junk.
1. The phone has 4 gb but nearly 1 gb is used at any given time and missuaed by Samsung bloat.
2. Stupid ram management that closes apps before they are actually closed.
3. Going into ultra power mode does not work right. I have replaced the phone twice since it was not able to go back from ultra power mode. I did not use package diabler at that point.
4. Ugly interface.
5. Data is deleted frequently from storage.
6. It uses too much of the internal memory for other crap.
I wanna sell this stupid phone and get me a nexus that will eliminate this stupidness.

Why did you buy it? Everything you listed was known before it was released. Except 3,4 and 5. Never really experienced any of that tbh. Or at least assumed for a Samsung device. I'm lucky enough to have both a Note 5 and 6p. I love them both. Heck I used the 6p for a month or so and went back to my att Note 5. Why?
The screen
S-pen
Camera
Split screen
Plus other features
It just works well for me.
I love the 6p too but my experience with the Note is more fun and useful. I've been tempted to get the Titanium international version but I haven't yet.

I just bought this today at Best Buy. It is extremely laggy. I trying rebooting, restoring, but nothing works. Any suggestions? I'm tempted to return it and get my money back and put it towards something else.

In that case, yeah, take it back.
Seriously though, the 7 in wifi version is lacking in many areas and must be rooted and de-bloated to be usable. It also has an uncommon cpu which makes it difficult to develop for.
If I were you, I would take it back and get the 8 in version (or a Nexus). It has a better cpu and is easier to build custom roms for since it has common cpu/board.
Disclaimer: I have a 7 and 8 in wifi.

If rooting it and de-bloating it would work, I would consider doing that.
Are you able to give me a list of the bloatware I could safely un-install after rooting, to make my device not lag? If this can be done, and the lagging can go away, I would keep the device.

yeah bring the crap back ...
i got my for free, thats the reason why i cant give it back ....
i own a nexus 7 lte 2013 and ... yeah, thats a rockin tablett.
if you can get the asus MeMo HD !!! 7 special the HD version for the same price as the galaxy tab, chose this one.
its in every spec better.
my tab 3 7" had restarts to the kernel panic mode ... it lays on the table ... maybe he feels alone so he got in panic but ...
ITS F*** CRAP the s*** tab
I returned the 7.0 and purchased the 8.0....i think i will like it better. No lagging

Still worth picking up a note 3

Looking for new toy AMD I've always been intrigued by the note 3. Was considering grabbing one from T-Mobile is it still worth it ? Sure they will be announcing the note 4 soon .
I currently have the nexus 5 and like it but crave a bigger screen .
Is there root for the note 3
Sent from my Nexus 5 using Tapatalk
You're at the half way point. Have a phone that's been half a year out... or wait half a year for the Note 4. Your call.
Yes, there's root out. It's XDA after all.

Wait for note 4 boot loader / Knox situation . if it's locked and Knox situation has not changed then either get a note 3 or stay away from Samsung all together . note 4 will have that dual WiFi antenna thing which is the only feature worth getting other wise I do t see them slapping 4 g of ram of 64 GB memory . faster CPU is useless and redundant as of now specially the way google is lowering requirement for their OS. The wrap around screen thing is useless to me because my phone is always encased
OP I was in the exact situation as yours. I've been using Nexus 5 and wanting to get a bigger screen, namely a Note. I weighed in the current trend, and am convinced that Samsung isn't gonna make Note 4 super interesting, so i decided to get a Note 3.
So far I am not disappointed. Touch Wiz has matured and there is no need to deviate from stock based ROMs.
Sent from my SM-N900T using Tapatalk
Samsung has been crap this year. I really wouldn't have my hopes up for their next upcoming flagship. After all, it's just a phone. I waited a whole year for the damn s5 and it turned out to be a disappointment. I got the note 3 instead, and I totally recommend it. It will feel huge at first, but you will eventually adapt to the point of no return. After all, it's just a phone.
Just picked up the note 3 ....um wow just wow
Sent from my SM-N900T using Tapatalk
Awww my good friend. Do it, do it, it'll make you feel good good good.
Really, do yourself a favor and get the 3. I did last month and oh boy, everything is great and no you don't really need to root, I did because I can't live without Viper audio and cerberus and remove bloat to clear up memory, ( not just disable them). Using a custom rom, it was wicked but I've changed to hyper drive rom, both fantastic. So long story short get it, and become happy for ever, until next year at lease.
Or do as I did and get the Note 3 and pay the extra $ for Jump! and when the Note 4 comes out switch

Had it since day one and there is nothing better out there now. No S5, HTC One (M8) or IPhone can beat this beauty and the beast phone. Only the Note 4 can surpass it when it comes out.
You will not regret getting a Note 3. May want to wait till S5 comes out in case you can get a Gear watch bundled for cheap if interested in it.
Ian B
I kinda agree that there really isn't anything out there better yet. I mean things like 2k display (not needed and bigger battery drain) 2gb ram is a step backwards, and no stylus (if you use it) and the Snap Dragon 801 is only 200mhz faster with the same gpu. So at the minimum I probably wouldn't even look til the 805 SoC came out or 64 bit (which isn't even needed yet).
That not even mentioning someone has to come up with something really innovative or significantly better like the isocell with OIS. At this point, we're really at a point of saturation.

How likely is it that a prepaid ZenFone 2E would receive a future 5.1 update?

I'm really considering just going ahead and uninstalling the bloatware on my ZenFone 2E (ATT PrePaid). It's currently on 5.0.1, but I was wondering if you all know from experience if a prepaid device is even likely to receive an OTA update? If not, then I'll go ahead and uninstall the bloatware. I haven't yet due to the hoping of a future update and didn't want to cause a brick in an update process.

Okay. I think I read on Android Central that to get system updates the sim has to match the carrier of the phone, like Verizon sim in Verizon phone. But I don't know if it still is the same because that post was in 2011. I think I'm gonna weigh my chances and go for it. Do you ever experience home screen redraws/crash/reloading whenever you exit an app to go to the home screen? I experience quite frequently and I always keep my Apps cleared out of the multitasker. One instance is, I could have all Apps closed, and open Google chrome, go to a webpage, and then go the phones home screen and it reloads and redraws the home screen. Like it ran out of RAM that fast v

I got the 2.3ghz model with 4gb of ram. Phone is fast and fast lol. I can't even slow it down one bit. The camera is nice and the battery life is so so. If u use it heavy you gonna have to top it off by mid day. But phone has outstanding stand by time.
If you can swing the 299 for that model you will not regret it.
Also the moto g 3rd gen with 2gb/16gb of ram for 220 isn't bad either. They have fully working cm12.1 and getting roms like crazy now. And you can customize it with motomaker now

Is it worth to upgrade S7 edge to Note7?

Hello guys!
I am on xda forum after a very long time. Needs some guidance. I am big fan of note series but now using S7 edge. I am very happy with it but missing S pen. Took S7 edge two months ago. Should I go for an upgrade to note 7 or not?
Thanks in advance
Sent from my SM-G935F using XDA-Developers mobile app
They're the same phone, just ones a bit bigger with a pen. Do you want that? then yes get it.
Simples. =)
FYI im in much the same boat, have the S7 Edge, but want the Note 7. I shouldn't, it isn't worth it, but I want it, so i likely will.
I dont think it is. Same phone except for bigger screen. Plus now edge 7 has root. If the note has root on release maybe id change my mind.

What about the HDR capability for watching videos? Secure folder? Samsung cloud? are any of this present on S7? I have Note4 and i refused to upgrade because non replaceable battery... i want to upgrade but... that's like 70% important to me

The root is bugy as hell. I've tried many different things to change that and it was still buggy. Engroot is not the same as other root methods.

The mDNIE image processor is unique to the Note 7, and I'm guessing some of that is to handle processing of HDR video. Not sure we'll see that on the regular s7 & S7 Edge.
As for Secure Cloud/folders and such, that is something I could see with an update to the Knox suite.
Sent from my SM-G930W8 using Tapatalk
How important the image processor would be for next 2 years? (assuming next buy will be when my GSM contract expires)
As i understand content needs to be adapted for this. Samsung's representative said Amazon will offer such content and probably others in the future. It does seem HDR is proprietary... will video content makers adopt it? Does it improve the HD content scene?

Hey guys what do you mean by working decently?
I need to be able to root and Note 7 will not be root able for now.
I think S7 could be a choice I can give up my S-pen for root.
I am upgrading from the S7E, because I can.
We can too but is it worth it that is the question. With Sprint update I onky pay 300 dollars but I dont think is worth it without root. From my perspective going from a root note 3 to a non root note 7 is a downgrade.
It is not an upgrade if battery life is worse.

I'm on T-Mobile Jump On Demand and I demanded it a few days ago. I also have loved having a spare battery but starting with the LG V10, and now the S7 Edge, my use no longer demands an always available spare battery. I've had the S7E since March and I've never had a completely drained phone. It was the expanded storage that brought me back to Samsung. Discovering UHQ bluetooth 24\192, to make use of the portable music library was just the cherry on the cake for me to never regret that purchase and now the new Note.
I'm going for it. Only because I got the BOGO deal for my S7E and sold the first one I got. I gave my current edge to my brother for $200 so I'm pretty much covered on the cost for the Note 7 anyways, cruising on an S5 until the phone is released. I'm honestly just interested in it for the IRIS scanner, and the S-Pen and Type-C port. Basically niche features that I enjoy experiencing. So yeah, it's not costing me anything out of pocket but if I were you, I probably would keep the S7E for now until the Note 8 comes out because they are literally the same spec phones as for internals.
Is it worth it to upgrade from s6 edge+? Using it for 7 months now.

Other than the Spen and a slightly bigger screen and some small semi gimmicky items they are real close.
Its the tamer edge screen that sold me on the note and kept me away from the S6/S7v edge devices....i hate the edge screen lol.

From what I know of Samsung phones(I have never owned a Samsung), the moment you root Knox kicks in or something. I am on the iPhone X now. Wanted to moved to the Pixel 2 XL but many Pixel owners have told me to wait for the Pixel 3 since the 2 is plagued with issues apparently. Thanks for your input!

And yes exynos sammy devices have root, twrp etc etc. Stay away from NA snapdragons they are locked and will not get unlocked. They might see root but it wont be great and there will be issues with it like on the S7 and S8.
The chinese and latin America snaps are unlockable but hardly see and form if development so kinda of useless anyway
Knox is useless anyway but yes it gets tripped and that breaks a few things such as samsung pay and secure folder.

If you like to use custom ROMs and mods on your device stay away from Sammy devices with Knox.

This is really disappointing to me. I'm in NA and was planning on taking advantage of my carrier's buy one get one free deal on the S9 but to the best of my knowledge (immodes)tmous only has the snapdragon version available.
Is the no unlock and root thing also true of the snapdragon s8? Because honestly the bogo was really the only thing that was making me opt for paying an extra $120 for what is functionally the same phone. Aside from FM radio, a tiny soc upgrade, and adding dual aperture to the rear camera, the S9 is just the S8 with a repositioned fingerprint scanner moved just enough so as to need whole new cases lol

Yes NA snap S8 also locked down, this has been the case since the S7 so nothing new the last few years.
In this case gotta pay to play bro, literally. I just got my exynos S9 plus though and couldn't be happier despite my wallet being a bit lighter lol.

Oh, well then, screw it. I'm getting the S9 buy one get one free then. If I'm stuck with stock I might as well get something good out of it, like a free phone lol

So between the S9 and Pix2, which would you recommend?

Hard to say i havent had the s9 plus very long.
So far Id say camera are close and so is battery life which is a shocker.
S9 plus more comfortable to hold and it certainly visually more appealing.
Speakers are louder and sound better on the S9 plus and the screen just kills the pixel.
And the main reason i got it, good ole sd card slot, i was running out of space on my pixel.
I really love the pixel but now after using the s9 plus i wont miss ut as much as i thought. Also for a google device being out as long as the pixel has been the development scene for it sucks as compared to all the nexus devices ive had. Thats big deal breaker for me
Most definitely s9 over pixel, pixel 2 XL IS OVERATED. ITS JUST THE CAMERA THATS GOOD. Even though s9 is also extremely good, better in low light. Touchwiz is way better than stock. You dont even need to root phones nowadays and honestly wouldn't recommend it.

Adaway, SD Maid, Titanium backup. Pretty decent reasons to root I think.
True, but doesn't that trip knox? Will I still be able to samsung pay, pass etc? Basically is there a lost of function?
I won't settle on a phone I cannot root. Recommending not rooting is one thing, but to state that it is not needed, I disagree with. Perhaps the majority of people don't use it, but for me its a critical option to have. Data recovery, data filtering of web traffic, removal of limitations set by carrier. Lets not forget the volume loudness notification that is still present on the s9, my biggest personal pet peeve from Samsung. I could go on and on.

Only if you like your phone laggy and bloated - I don't know anyone who does.

ummm, put the crack pipe down, how are you planning to block annoying ads in apps and remove manufacturer and carrier bloatware without root? - seriously, don't drink & post, these are the type of moron statements that show up when you do

Plenty of non root adblockers available, and package disablers that are also non root
Time you educated yourself instead of insulting people

Ummm ... no
there are no effective adblockers on the level of AdAway that can block ads in all of your apps, as well as in youtube videos etc. - you need to "educate yourself" - the sheer design of the Android OS limits what an ad blocking app can do without root privileges, same goes for removing bloatware. You must be thinking of browser based ad blocking such as u-block, etc., which is the least of my worries. If root wasn't a critical thing, XDA wouldn't even be a thing. And TouchWiz is just less laggy than it used to be, but still nothing like the same phone with stock Android, not to mention high memory usage and additional processing adds heat and sucks down battery life. - Man, that crack pipe is really getting a workout today!

OK, so I guess you've never heard of VPN adblockers then, strange that as there are a few on the XDA forums developed by devs here, and surprise surprise, they block ads in apps and browsers alike
An example of a non root adblocker that blocks ads everywhere
https://blokada.org/index.html
And Package disablers remove bloatware and any system app you want without root just fine
A word of advice:
1. Stop with the insults or you'll be reported
2. Go learn about what you're talking about, you're just making yourself look bad
The guy you quoted originally is correct, Root is almost unnecessary for most these days, last phone I rooted was my S5, I had a non rooted S7 and now S9 since then, no root and never missed it
I think root is a must adaway tb Hotspot hack audio mods I can go on what a rooted device can do I kick myself every day for buying a locked phone.. Yea there's ways to block ad non rooted but to truly modify your phone to be your own does require root. No dogging on ppl who don't want root to each there own

I have unlocked S9, sure there's like 1 or 2 apps that i don't want, i can just disable them. If you use samsung internet, you can download the adblock addon which works perfectly. For youtube i just need to download youtube vanced for an ad free experience. Sorry mate, but i really like how secure folder and samsung pay works. Also i like getting my monthly security updates and minor tweaks and stuff without hassle. Rooting isn't necessary and the disadvantages outweigh the advantages in my opinion.
All you guys preaching that root isnt needed...wth are you doing here on this site then lol?
Its a development site (or used to be anyway) for gods sake...your preaching to the wrong crowd for the most part.
Now dont get me wrong, everyone is absolutely entitled to have an opinion and their own preferences of course, but really.... trying to convice the majority here root isnt needed lol....your definitely on the wrong site people.
Maybe iphones are more your speed (jk) lol.
