CM13 - Best kernel for battery life - G3 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I Yesterday installed CM13 Nightlies and i am pretty much happy with it, works great, no lagg, but only thing which I would like to improve is battery life.
I got jus about 3,5h Sot, screen brightness never go over 70%, i dont use intnernet over mobile data just wi-fi (i cant change network to only 2g i mean its a known bug on cm13)
Is there some kernel and what settings i should try to get better battery life time?
(sorry if my eanglish is bad)

I'm using nebula on Resurrection Remix. I have 6/7 hours of sot with with regular use (chrome, YouTube, music, reading, 40% brightness, uldervolting, no underclock or overclock, )

Yes

How much did you undervolt? And what's governor and hotplug settings? I would love to know more..just flashed the nebula.

Guys I don't believe you, if I reach 3 hours SOT it's great...

Here's my settings:
Governor: Intellidemand
All power saving tweaks off
Hotplug: Intelliplug with Performance profile
Intellithermal off
I/O: bfq on both, 2048 read-ahead,
MMC, Random, Rotational and RQ on , NR 1024
GPU: Governo Tunables off and Adreno Idler on
FSYNC off and WiFi scan interval in 300 secs
Undervolt varies from device to device. My device can reach 600mV at 268MHz with 15 / 20mV for each subsequent step.
It may seem strange, but on my device, performance settings use less battery than power saving settings, and it's cooler...

Out of the kernels I've tried the stock kernel for candy six has netted the best battery life.

Yeah, me neither lol. But its serious.
when I was on stock, I could get only 3h of sot too. Play a single game was a battery nightmare...

777 FTW !
XenonHD on LP with 777 gave me around 6h everyday, now on MM i'm on CandySiX with 777 MM and i've got almost the same SOT, maybe a bit less good
Nebula gives great results too, slightly better perfs, but is less consistent in SOT !
Edit : Using Lionheart give me very good battery life and perfect framerate in everyday use, and using Alucard or MSM Hotplug

dont give some BS....every single 777 kernel as of right now for MM is giving SOD's and freezes. Nebula is the only one to actually work well with cm13 and RR. 6 hours of SOT LOL show the proof.

My G3. 7% were drained by the camera with 100% brightness. The lasts 15% give easily +1h
No bs. 6h is possible, even 7

Haha sorry no proof, switched Rom multiples times since RR gave me a Sim bug, and i don't usually screen my battery life at the end of the day
But yeah as the guy above just said, you can get 6h, PowerNap helps a lot on LP, this thing is absolutely fantastic, your battery looses maybe 1% in 2h of LTE standby
(PS : 777 + CandySiX did gave me maybe one or two SOD's in a week of usage, but no freezes ! It' was very nice)

Try putting that with no airplane mode with full 4G LTE on lol don't do some BS test. 6hrs of SOT is not possible. Max is 4 in real cases.

OK, I'll do it again without airplane mode. I only did so because it was without my SIM card at the time. But I will not put 4g lte because I just use wifi. My normal use. And as I mentioned, 7% were drained by the camera and 100% brightness and I do not usually use it. So I believe it will not change much on the SOT

If you're using nebula, kernel Adiutor is not fully compatible with nebula. Download the Synapse version of the nebula thread and uninstall or disable kernel Adiutor to not generate conflict between the two
As I promised, my new test: same settings and no airplane mode

Battery life based on kernels and ROM combinations

Been playing with many combinations of ROM and kernel yet seems no matter what I try battery life is poor. Right now running coreDroid 1.3.3 with latest Franco kernel seems so so with slight under voltage settings within setcpu. So what is everyone else opinions? Thanks for feedback!

My best combination has come from AOKP Milestone 3 and Faux's 12u kernel. Usually get 16-20 hours with light/mod usage during the day and heavy usage in the evenings.

Best battery life I've seen yet is the stock 4.0.4 release w/ the kernel that comes with it. I get 4-7 hours with mod-heavy usage and 14-16 hours of light-mod usage.
I get 2-3 hours using Franco's kernel. Really not great. I should look around for a better kernel to suit my usage.

Jeez you use your phone a lot. I'm on kang 1/31 with faux's kernel. I use my phone for the commute to work and turn off lte when I get there. Mostly music and reading. I have it underclocked at 1060mhz and running under performance governor, it helps me check my phone and send out texts at work faster. Then at night I flip on lte again and a lot of the times go out. I don't think 15 hrs is too bad.

best battery life i had was 36 hours with moderate usage. no lie.
aokp b17 + francos 13.1, smooth and amaziiiiiing battery life. if i wasn't a flash junkie, i would be sitting on that right now.
I'm a little confused by your post. Are you developing a kernel or a rom? Either way looking forward to the release.

I mean screen on time!
I got 42 hours without charging the phone yesterday, with 2 hours 40 minutes screen on time. I was using it very sparingly over the period though.
If we you want this thread to be useful we need to make sure all posts at least state screen ON time. Even then there are so many other factors:
Screen On Time
Total Up Time
GSM/LTE
ROM
Kernel
Kernel Freq
Kernel Governor
Screen Brightness (Avg)
WIFI state
BT State
etc
Okay so I'll start...
Screen On Time - 3-4hrs
Total Up Time - 14 to 25hrs
GSM/LTE - GSM
ROM - AOKP 22
Kernel - Franco 16.2
Kernel Freq - 700/1000
Kernel Governor - Turtle
Screen Brightness (Avg) - <40%
WIFI state - On
BT State - Off
Clarify Battery Life Info
I am not developing anything. I am just wondering what people that flash different kernels and roms have experienced and settled on as far as best battery life. In my sig there is the one I currently use. I actually have been trying franco kernel lately and that seems to be slightly better. Its tough to tell since I try to plug in the phone as often as possible either to outlet or my laptop. Does that help clarify what I am curious about??

battery life

I recently bought a used nitro hd and unlocked it for use on t-mobile. I lose about 4% battery life per hour while in standby. bluetooth, gps, wifi are all off. cell radio is the only thing on. phonearena reports a 259 hour standby life, and at this rate I will get about 25 hours of standby time. and perish forbid I use the phone, when I can literally watch the battery percentage drop before my eyes. I lose about 1% every 2-3 minutes when using it. I have tried v20c and CM10 stable.
does this sound like a problem that can be dealt with somehow, or am I looking at a new battery? thanks.

Habe you tried disabling LTE? It may be because your phone is constantly searching for an LTE signal that it's wasting so much battery.
CM10 and V20c are not particularly great with battery life. You might try CM9 if you want to see if it makes a difference.
thank drumist. I forgot to mention I also downclocked the processor to 1ghz with cm10 with not much noticeable effect. in cm10, under preferred network mode, gsm/wwcdma preferred is checked. lte is not.I also lost a full 1% just checking that.

While in that same screen you selected gsm/wcdma, if you go to Access Point Names and switch it from ATT LTE to ATT you might see some improvement. Also, HO!NO!s Full Throttle seems to be quite good on battery life. It's CM9 based and it's pretty snappy. I've got it overclocked to 1728mhz and have been playing with mine almost constantly for about 5 hours so far today and I'm at 66% left.

That's why I've been playing with it so long today lol. After reading what you said the other day I had to give it another try. I do miss phablet mode though! What all have you done to it to get such ridiculous stats?
Also, I do tend to ROM hop a pretty good bit. I've tried every ROM in the Dev section except Liquid Nitro; PA just seems to be my fallback.

Left the OC at 1728. Left the GPU OC as is. I under volted -75 from 192mhz to 1026, then -50 up to 1512 and -25 above that. I leave sync off. Only have wifi on constantly when plugged in. I freeze Google Maps until I need it (constantly runs). Diplay-automatic backlight enabled-sample intervel 5s. Performance-memory management-allow purging of assets checked. And follow this guide for calibration: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1616598 ... I think that's about it. Oh, I also let it settle in for a few days before judging life of the battery.
EDIT: I also ROM hop often. Liquid Nitro is the only one I haven't tried, too. I love pA JB but the battery life drives me nuts (have a backup though). I'm lucky to get 8hrs out of a charge. I can't wait for thomas.raines to finish is LZ JB kernel. That's gonna improve things quite a bit.

One plus 3 best rom for Screen on time

Can anyone tell me that which is the best rom for screen on time.i am using stock rom.just me a rom that can give a 5+ hour screen on time...i have posted my usage in screenshot
OOS 4.0.2 with OB7 firmware. Then flash render EAS kernal. EAS will make sure that you get the most battery out of your phone.
It doesnt fully depend on the ROM. If u really want good battery life then its all about tweaking. For example flash LOS14.1 with bluspark/ElementalX/Franco then apply a AKT profile, for further explanation of this head to the advanced kernel tweaking thread and then download the akt APK. Then choose which profile u think suits the best. U can choose from battery/balanced/performance. Then u can easily reach 5h SOT. Hope i helped you.
I have 8-9h SOT on sultan's CM13
Screenshots: https://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=70828408&postcount=668
Beta 11 with Franco's kernel. 4+ guaranteed SOT for me with a moderate gaming ( CoC and CR .... Both battery hogger )
Plus both Sims and 4g data on one is on mostly.
If you want more battery then you should try AKT ZHANA but for me it made my phone slow. So avoiding it at this moment.
Hope it helps. Thanks!
SOT is personal and doesn't mean a lot you can leave your display on with sync off, 0 Brightness and get 20hrs...
Try different setups maybe ditch some apps and log in with optimized sd browser etc
I have got my best SOT with Slimroms
It really depends on usage more than anything else. For example, I'm consistently getting 5-6h SOT on stock ROM and kernel, no doze tweaks or anything. Never got below 4h, once hit over 9h.

I agree with this as well. I think back to my note 4, and just wanted a better that would last until I got home.. I frequently had to plug it up or swap batteries halfway through the day.
Now with heavier use, [and more knowledge of android] regardless of what I do, my oneplus 3 always makes it through the entire work and school day.
H2OS Beta 7, stock kernel + root +greenify +juice defender(default settings). It's the best battery duration I have with OP3. 5-7h sot generally.

Total of 4 hours of screen on time is 4 hours ?
Also check what apps you use mostly which is highest in battery consumption list.
4 hours SOT (screen on time) isn't bad if it's for playing heavy duty gaming like PubG or such. Same setup would offer higher SoT if used others daily used apps like social and videos.

Have you checked in your battery stats as what is eating do much of battery?
That usually points to the culprit.
Otherwise, you can change kernel to a more battery friendly one.
Yes, 90 mins PubG for 100-0% is indeed low, unless your battery has degraded hardwarely

In the ROM section here.
I don't use that ROM so I am unable to comment which kernel would give you best results, it's more like Trial n Error type testing you may have to do.
Allow a kernel to run for couple of days before coming to any conclusions about its true potential.
If nothing helps I guess time to try out a different ROM

Once again tough question since the Custom ROM is meant to satisfy different need of different people. Some wants PubG over anything else. Some wants performance of UI.
More or less all ROMs are good but all have different short comings.
Chose a ROM which is officially supported here and widely used. Unlike your present ROM, which seems to be not supported anymore. This helps to obtain assistance when something isn't in order.
Start with Pixel Experience ROM. Performance, integration, fluid nature of operation is mind blowing. I personally had issue with battery drain when idle (SOT was fine, like 5+ hours with mixed use). AR Beast kernel solve it a bit.
Pixel default with anything mode was drinking 2.5% to 3% battery per hour but after I installed AR Beast, it was down to 1% or even lower per hour when idle like night time.
Some other users have different setup, like @$Ayush$ is running,
PE ROM + AR Beast kernel + Sun Cooling
Then @Rahil4321 is running following setup,
PE + Heliox V2 kernel + Boost v7 + Uber Cooling
Then @sanjay.2704 is running following,
PE with heliox 2 with akt project xana balanced
So if you chose to try it out, check that ROM section and start with the ROM first, after couple of days depending on your need chose a setup by asking there. As those individuals can comment about their setup, how or why.
I am presently running AiCP 13.1 may 4th build (latest one). No extra modification or kernel or any such. Performance is some what satisfactory, things are working fine. By things, I mean most of the stuff I use in daily life.
But pixel was by the smoothest ROM I have used. So start there. Couple of issues that I faced with it was as wrote above, battery drainage in idle (others have solved it with different setup), then WiFi link limited to 72 Mbps (AEX/AiCP/ZUI i see connecting at 150 Mbps) last of all the Jio reception (but all custom ROM I have used have this network bar fluctuation issue) issue, but never faced call drops.

DotOS
I was also previously using CitrusCAF 3.6 as it gave best battery life. But in last month or so, battery drainage became very common. Even on clean installation.
I have currently settled on DotOS Oreo after trying AEX5.5 and RR. AEX gave me 4hr+ SOT. But DotOS gives around 6-7hr+ SOT.
I am a moderate user. No bugs so far and smooth.

I have currently settled on DotOS Oreo after trying AEX5.5 and RR. AEX gave me 4hr+ SOT. But DotOS gives around 6-7hr+ SOT.
I am a moderate user. No bugs so far and smooth.

I have moved to PE with custom kernel and cooling. The device never felt so much snappier. PE is better than every other rom that i have tried.

Question Any tips for improving idle battery drain?

Currently trying to squeeze as much battery life from my phone as I can. I'm running arter's kernel and screen on time is pretty good, according to accubattery my idle drain is 0.6% an hour which isn't bad to me by any means but at the moment I'm a little obsessed with improving battery life so any tips are appreciated!
ideally, anything below 0.8 is fine, you should not worry about the idle drain much. There are apps that would underclock the device but it would risk the performance and wake times. You can try that if you wish and see how that affects the device's performance to get to know if its actually worth it.

I considered switching to bluspark since it allows me to switch from schedutil to conservative but I don't know if there's any real world difference between the two in terms of standby drain.

This doesn't include the scenario with AOD enabled, right? I'm getting around 3% idle drain reported by FKM. OOS 11 rooted and with bluspark kernel. Does that sound bad?
Hey all
If I may jump the topic question: I'm on arter97 + derpfest latest + magisk. Today I got like 3h sot
I can't seem to figure out what's wrong... Does anyone know of a working version of bbs for this combo?

Hmm I never use aod. Do you mean 3% an hour? Id expect it to be lower than that but again I've never tester aod.

Yes, per hour. I had between 1.5 and 2% on my previous Realme X2 Pro, and now it's 2.5 to 3%, that's why this looks a bit too high.

Looking at the BBS thread, seems to be a hit and miss but a few says it works on Android 12.

No, when I said less than 1% I referred to idle at night time with AOD off when the device sleeps basically. With AOD 2-3% is fine. No need to restrict it further.
