Then why ask for these files when we don't have root? I'm pretty sure we need root to get these files.

No, we don't have root. Only temp root is available for kitkat and even then, you can't do much with it and it unroots after a restart or shutdown.
No available root exploit or procedure has worked on our phone. The bootloader is locked up extremely tight.

Search the general Note 3 thread for CF-Autoroot. Use the version for the N9005. Yes! not the N900T. Apply using ODIN.
EDIT. The N900T version will not work.
Here is the link. http://download.chainfire.eu/352/CF-Root/CF-Auto-Root/CF-Auto-Root-hlte-hltexx-smn9005.zip Make sure to extract the tar file from the zip downloaded.

Hey Bobbyphoenix, Glad I could help.
I guess it has not caught up with kitkat for our phone as yet. the N9005 kitkat has been around for some time. I am sure the N900T willl be updated now that the kitkat files are available, but for the time being it is not working.

This root method is used for 4.4 while the one for N900t is still for 4.3

Correct. But it is also possible to inject a kernel if a bootloader unlock isn't available.
You can download the stock boot.img from here:

Rooting trips knox. By the time you get here you've already made your peace with that
Modified builds are uploading now. The stockish backups will be compiled later tonight.

Thank you for the quick reply. Haha I figured as much but they way the post is set up, it seemed like you could use heimdall to flash it. Knew it was too good to be true yet! Awesome work getting it set up already though
The fact that there's something posted in the development section for this phone gives me some hope that we'll achieve root soon.

Just to prevent any false hope, the configuration for the kernel was included with the T-Mobile version of the source so that is what made porting it so quickly possible. Root may not be as easy. I do hope it is, though.

Hi guys, like all of you i have been waiting patiently for root on my VZW Note 4. Upon doing a little research i found that Chainfire has rooted the note 4. I went to his website to see if the SM N910V is compatible and according to the site...it is!!!!!.......
Can someone please verify if this will work on the retail version on the VZW SM N910V.
Thanks

You may brick your device. It is of course possible to bring your device back from such a disaster but you can avoid that by acknowledging that the Dev. Edition has an unlocked bootloader unlike the retail Verizon model which is why it was easier to root. I would wait for another method.

I've tried to flash a lot of stuff including this. Everything fails before it actually writes.
any way we can go back to 4.4.2
So if we can do that idk im.not great with these things i know i could down grade on my lgg3
Here it is! Root for 5.1.1 thanks to @djvoleur! I helped a little but he did most of the work. Thanks also goes to @g.lewarne for his work on Unikernel as a couple of their ramdisk commits were needed to get this going.
This will trip KNOX. It will. Trip. KNOX. IF YOU HAVE NOT TRIPPED KNOX YET - THIS WILL TRIP IT. ALSO - you CANNOT downgrade after you take the OTA so be sure you want it.
I hope that's clear enough?
Instructions:
After you've booted into OF7 or OFE, go to Settings > About device and tap Build number 7 times to enable Developer Mode.
Go back and select Developer options and turn on OEM unlocking
Reboot in to download mode (Power + Home + Volume Down)
Use ODIN to flash boot-of7root.tar
After your phone boots you will now have root! You may also be back on stock recovery, which is fine since we don't have a working one for 5.1.1 just yet
You'll notice constant messages about security issues because of KNOX and the kernel being permissive. To get rid of these, open Titanium Backup (or your personal favorite app freezing app) and freeze SecurityLogAgent.
Download
OF7: https://www.androidfilehost.com/?fid=24052804347768984
OFE: http://1drv.ms/1LeDH1z
If you have any questions, post in this thread and @djvoleur and I will be watching. And if you'd like to send any trucks full of money, I'm sure we can arrange that via PM.
ENJOY!
@g.lewarne is the unikernel dev. Glad you guys figured it out, he's been camping and not really able to download anything so grabbing your kernel source was pretty tough.

Yes, this is root for the OF7 update. Best way to update right now since we still don't have a stock tarball for OF7 yet is flash back to stock OE2, update, and flash this kernel for root.

Does the device go into deep sleep after root with this method? Or is the deep sleep fix needed after this? Thanks!

First of all you're in the wrong thread, this is for AT&T devices and your SM-N920V is a Verizon device which cannot be rooted as of yet and I suggest you use the Verizon thread to avoid confusing people and flashing stuff for the wrong device.
Ii belive users were waiting for an update and if they made the update available to download away from the phone. Update was required so users could build a root for att galaxy note 5. From what I read
