Hello i new at rooting and etc. And i didnt found what i need, so im gonna ask here. (phone htc Desire)
Recovery img is a custom phone recovery yes? So its overwrites stock recovery or you just need to push different buttons to turn it on
What recovery img is used for ? Do you need different recovery img for different custom ROMs
And nandroid, you can turn it in recovery mode if you failed rooting/flashing
and it backups or smth ?
Can i write recovery img/nandroid in unrooted phone.

you need to be rooted to flash a custom recovery, the recovery replaces the standard htc one (thats usless) nandroid is a part of recovery, and you can use that to back your current rom up, no you dont need to use diffrent recoverys for diffrent roms

What do nandroid? Nandroid saves current ROM to memmory card?? so if your flashing not succeded , you can use nandroid to back ROM.

the best way to root is to use the unrevoked one click root tool, you can find it here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=776696, that recovery is for slcd desires, do you have an amoled or slcd desire?

the unrevoked tool will root both amoled and slcd desires, i dont have a slcd on tho so i dont know if they need a diffrent recovery to amoled ones, maybe someone with a slcd screen can shed some light
I followed droid-den guide and have rooted Desire SLCD using unrevoked for mac. Make sure you select the SLCD recovery as mentioned in the guide.
I justed rooted an SLCD Desire with the latest unrevoke3, nothing to choose, just run and click ok and it worked.
Be wary of guides on websites, they're usually out of date. As is that one.
Hellloo xda...is there anyone who can gimme a proper step to step guide for unrooting my htc one v.
1. Download the HTC Asia India RUU from Football's collection in the development section
2. While that's downloading, relock your bootloader using the command

fastboot oem lock
3. Open the RUU. Find the temp folder it created and open ROM.zip from inside it with 7Zip. Extract the recover.img and flash it

fasboot flash recovery recovery.img
4. Run the RUU and your phone's status will be *** RELOCKED *** and unrooted.
So why do you want to unroot?

So what exactly are you trying to do now? Before you said unroot the phone, then you said install custom ROM in a later post.

Assuming you're on stock rom, have you try factory reset in bootloader ?
Do you know your software version or cid no. ?
He sent a pm telling me that his phone is rooted and he flashed a zip file that supposedly increases the SD card speed, and apparently causes soft bricks too
I think the only thing to do is re-flash the RUU because I don't think he did a backup in CWM Recovery.

I see.. if he can send the file, sometimes do a revert.zip will help. The easiest is reflash the same rom.zip with wipe cache & system. It should correct the error.

I was going to start the same thread but since this is open I want to ask you one question:
If I root the phone, flash cwm, and then I want to return to stock (for warranty purposes) how can I 'uninstall' cwm? Because for unroot I know how to do it, but uninstall custom recovery I never done that even on my older phone - Htc hero.
I'm not new to recoveries, custom roms, flashing and all this kind of stuff, but this is a problem that I don't know how to handle it since I didn't needed to uninstall the custom recovery in the past.

L.E: To Answer my own question:
D) ROM is stock, bootloader unlocked, CWM recovery and rooted
- download OTA Rootkeeper from Play Store
- run the OTA Rootkeeper and click protect root
- no need to relock bootloader
- boot to bootloader and fastboot flash the stock recovery
- run the OTA update
- Once done, run OTA Rootkeeper and click restore root

it will show relock

today i tried to root my htc one x. i unlocked its bootloader from htcdev. all went fine. i checked the bootloader unlocked.

but the root.zip file was not downloadable.
then i tried other sites, same probs necessary files were not downloadable.
went to other site (http://www.knowyourmobile.com/htc/htc-one/17426/how-root-your-htc-one-x) downloaded the file, followed the instructions,
my phone stuck into bootloop. only i can switch off my phone using power+vol down, and can acess the fastboot menu... my phone is not
powering up. any help please. i don't know anything how to fix this. any help will be appreciated.

as you have mention above the link of root.zip,its of HTC One XL(non-tegra device)
if you have htc one xl then you are in wrong place..
He has the quad-core. The XL variant has no 1.73 hboot and 4.19.720 software number. So he is in the right place
Easiest way now is to restore the nandroid backup you probably didn't make before messing around with the superuser.zip !

and did restoring http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1859714 using this as instructed
still didnt done. while restoring it said an error message.

The 3.14 ain't gonna help you as the touchscreen won't work ! You need a nand that matches your main.
If you can't find one then i suggest you install a clean new custom rom of your choice !

sorry for asking many things, i never knew that tinkering with htc one x would cause me a brick device on my hand
You need to flash the boot.img via fastboot, make a full wipe in the recovery and install the CM.zip and the appropriate GAPPS......

Well you need a stock nandroid backup that has the same main version number 4.19.720 and restore it. As long as you don't have that you can't go back to stock. But there are custom roms based on pure stock looks. You can install that too.

i have a friend who has same version-main: 4.19.720.1, like mine. but the problem he has s-on in his phone
if i install clockworkmod recovery v5.8.4.0 in his phone without unlocking it, and then make a nandroid back up and transfer that to mine, would
that help me?
if not what should i do, pls give some detailed guide, cause i really dont like cyangenmod, and the other stock looking roms have the installation guide that is quite complex for me.

You can't install anything like that via fastboot if phone is locked...you need to be unlocked and for the latest cm roms like cm 11 that recovery is too old... He can unlock too, flash a recovery make a nandroid backup without flashing another Rom and there is your backup

i have flashed the android revolution hd rom. this rom is the perfect one, just the same as htc stock rom.you guys were really helpful.i would like to know many things about kernel and kernel flasher. what kernels actually does? i tried search the forum but couldn't find a simple post about it.

Simple explanation, the kernel and hboot function sort of as a bios of a pc. It interacts with the software.
A kernel flasher....you don't need that if you flash the boot.img (kernel) straight from fastboot. The flasher does the same.

Here is the story. I rooted my device via TWRP Recovery. Then I tried to get S-OFF using Firewater. When I wasted like a few days trying to get this done I discovered that my device is "Patched by HTC" so I cannot use Firewater anymore to get this S-OFF.
The whole thing was to convert my M8 into a GPE version. Now I'm trying to revert my phone back to stock ver. because I have no need in root.
So is it possible to unroot my phone?
My CID is HTC_622
Software number is 1.60.708.2

Hey I've been googling for hours for this too.I know this is an old post.
I am one of the unfortunate people do get a 1.60 up
Update on CID HTC__622
I have surfed the page with the list of nandroids, however there is no stock recovery that begins with 1.60. From other research it states that the first two numbers are the most important whilst flashing recoveries.
Any information would be really helpful

You can't take a nandroid backup on a non-rooted 816 with locked HBOOT and S-ON. So the only valid option is flashing an RUU. In principle you could also flash separate system, HBOOT, RADIO etc images but that will not change the contents of HTC 816's THREE security partitions
