Hey, guys, I am a complete noob when it comes to custom ROMs and a friend recommended this place. I was wondering if you guys could give me a step by step guide on how to root my device and put Cyanogen on it as that is what was recommend to me. It is a UK phone if that has a bearing as well. Welcome.
First - and this is important - there is no such thing as a best ROM.
It's too subjective. What suits one user will not necessarily suit another. There are no shortcuts - you've got to try them yourself. Nearly every custom ROM has an introductory description anyway.
Rooting - here is everything you need to know. Read every word, and don't even think of installing before you read every word again. And again. And again.
It's not that hard - just read. Post again if you have problems.

Thanks man for this help
Sorry for interrupting, but what are the factors that make a Rom good, how i can measure when i trying each one ?
To be honest if u do not know, stay stock. It's quite decent.
Since u are still new to this phone, you won't be able to tell immediately the improvements of custom roms and stock roms.
Rooting is not illegal. But it does void warranty. So far I have not seen or heard ppl getting arrested or charged in court for rooting.

[Q] Help with Rooting and other stuff...

OK guys, so I bought my HTC Inspire 4g and I am willing to mod it (I post in this forum because I was told that in fact it's the same device). So I am interested in installing this ROM (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=37060683) on top of a custom kernel, please suggest one (or is it not needed?). So I actually need to root, s-off, bootloader unlock, flash a kernel, flash the rom and be happy . Now, can you please provide me links with instructions for all these? (Rooting, s-off,BL unlock, kernel flashing, rom flashing) and anything else that my phone might need? Thank you you are helping a huge noob!

[Q] Please can someone point me in the right direction??

Hi, I am a noob at this but after looking around on the net for a day, I'm already confused...
OK, here's the situation, its fairly simple... I bought a brand new Samsung Galaxy S3 LTE i9305 (UK EE) but want to unlock it.
It is running Android 4.1.2 and therefore "The Trick" doesn't work as it is missing the final option...
1) I have therefore read that I can downgrade it to 4.1.1 and then use the trick...
2) or I could "Root" it....
Which of these is most straight forward. I don't mind Rooting it cos I gather it's not THAT risky...
So far, I've downloaded Odin but don't know what to do with it....I also just want to use Stock ROM and don't know where I can get that... there are too many other ROMs to choose so just want to keep it simple.
Please can someone help?? I realise other people may have asked this question before, so therefore if someone could point me in the right direction and show me a simple and easy to follow guide, I would be most grateful.:good:
Many Thanks in advance!

[Q] Beginner Help

Hi all,
I have been an iPhone user for a long time and have become frustrated with the methodical cycling of old tech via new OS', so I want to switch over to Android. That beginning said, I want to upgrade my phone to Cyanogenmod 11 (M5 I believe?) but I definitely need some technical help. I am not looking to brick my phone.
I read a few guides on how one goes about upgrading their device but there are still some points I am unsure of. A large area of confusion for me at the moment is this:
-What is the difference between a unlocked bootloader and a rooted device? My understanding is that an unlocked bootloader is more basic, like having access to the "BIOS" in your phone. A rooted device, on the other hand, pertains to the OS, as if one was upgrading between Ubuntu and Windows. I am confused because the article I read states that I can flash a custom ROM in the unlocked bootloader, without rooting. If this is the case, why would anyone want root access?
-Nightly vs. snaphot vs. stable: I understand that these represent levels of stability that increases from nightly to stable. My question is regarding updating. If I install a nightly/snapshot, will I have to flash/wipe/etc every time I want to install an upgrading nightly?
-Lastly, I have had on my eye on this guide for when I upgrade: (REMOVE BRACKETS FROM "COM")
true-android.blogspot.[com]/2013/12/update-verizon-galaxy-nexus-sch-i515-to_17.html
Is that good guide to go by? Does that make any assumptions about upgrading that new user like me would not be aware of?
Thank you for any help.
Thanks for the help boys
