[OOS][GApps] Open GApps - OnePlus X Themes and Apps

I wrote a gapps-config for Open GApps's stock(or higher) package in order to reinstall the latest GApps on OnePlus X's OxygenOS and also this config offers you the ability to install only the gapps that you want.
You can read more about gapps-config file here.
Edit the gapps-config. Personalize it.
First you should read about gapps-config (link above).
I highly suggest to don't remove any keywords from step #1. If you remove any of that, after installation may occur apk conflicts.
The keywords tagged with #Safe to remove are indeed safe to be removed(they are not essential apps). An example of essential app is Google Play Music app, it is essential because it is the only music player included as default in OOS. Of course you can add, remove, replace any keyword to meet your demands .
IMPORTANT
!You can not take OTAs after installing Open GApps. In order to take OTAs you will need to restore your backup partition first (untouched system partition). That's why it's good to do a backup before flashing Open GApps.
!This script requires at least the stock package! If you will use smaller packages you will have missing gapps!
!Before flash you may want to backup your system partition in case that something goes wrong.
I tested the config myself and it works as it should.
!This gapps-config was written specifically for OPX's OxygenOS to remove the stock gapps and reinstall them. On AOSP based ROMs you won't need this specific gapps-config!
How to use:
Move/copy the gapps-config.txt in the same folder as the gapps package.
Flash the downloaded gapps package.
Download:
Open GApps arm 5.1 stock package
gapps-config.txt

What exactly does that mean?
I am interested in your script, but I would like to just get the Playstore from OpenGapps, so I should choose the Pico package, right?
Are you just saying here that you won't get all the Google apps with a smaller package (obvious), or will some stuff break?
-------------------------
Also can I use stock recovery? Or what recovery did you use?

Well, if you are interested only in PlayStore then you can use this gapps-config alongside pico package.
What "stock package is required" mean? Well, I wrote this gapps-config to remove the stock google apps and reinstall them through Open GApps packages. If you use pico, for example, you will only have Google Playstore installed (no YouTube, no other apps but of course you can get the most of them from the store but there are still some features which you can't get from store like "trusted face" and so on).
Also you can't use stock recovery. You need a custom one. For example I'm using eng.stk's TWRP.

Alright thanks for the quick answer.
Another thing. And another one.
Do the changes made installing OpenGapps using your script persist on a factory reset?
Will I still be able to recieve OTA updates?

Factory reset will only wipe the data partition, and Google Apps are installed in system so factory reset won't affect them.
And about OTA, it's impossible to take OTA when you modified any app from the system partition. When flashing OTA, the installation will check if the apps from system are untouched, so if an app is missing or it has been modified then the installation will fail. In order to take OTAs you need to restore a backup with your original system partition.

This should definitely get more attention. I like my stuff updated

You can't. It doesn't matter which recovery are you using (TWRP, CM or stock) to flash the OTA packages. It will always fail if you did certain changes to the system partition. The flash instructions from the OTA package will prevent you from flashing the package.

Ive just gaved this a try. Works perfect, all gapps updated and not a single fc even after wiping data. Thanks OP

Hmm yes, that should work. But if you flash OpenGApps using this gapps-config you cannot longer get OTAs.

Does this gapps-config work also with Oxygen 3.1.4?

What is GAPPS?

Hi. I am planning to flash CM7 for a try. but i notice in some threads they mentioned installing GAPPS. what is this actually? an app available in market?
GAPPS stands for Google Apps... That includes stuff like the gmail app, google maps, google goggles, etc.
you can find some of these apps on the market, but not necessarily all of them. (I couldn't download gmail from the market)
Without GAPPS you have no Market, as Market is included in GAPPS.
Ic. so its apps related to Google's own app. Alright, thanks alot. x)
thanx so much for d info
Thank you for asking the question and all the answers. It helps.
And here's a link to all the GAPPS you'll ever need:

there are many unnoficial CM ROMs out there and each ROM reccommends a different set of GAPPS.
GAPSS are just a compiled list of apps and some might have calendar, some might not, every package is different.
They were made to reduce flashing time and reduce bloat, plus some regions of the world cannot use some apk's and need a localized GAPPS package (as some regions like Germany cannot download gmail and calendar fro the market)

GAPPS are not included in Cyanogen Mod because they include proprietary software developed by Google...
See Wikipedia - CyanogenMod for the whole History:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/CyanogenMod
here's a cutout:
"Following a statement from Google clarifying its position[56] and a subsequent negotiation between Google and Cyanogen, it was resolved that the CyanogenMod project would continue, in a form that did not directly bundle in the proprietary "Google Experience" components.[57][58] It was determined that the proprietary Google apps may be backed-up from the Google-supplied firmware on the phone and then re-installed onto CyanogenMod releases without infringing copyright."
GAPPS per Android Version
In the AOSP ROMs, most famously CyanogenMod and AOKP the GAPPS are not included in the ROM.
Here you can find some info about the Recommended Package of GAPPS per Android Version:
http://wiki.rootzwiki.com/Google_Apps
The primary mirrors for the Google Apps packages are here: http://goo.im/gapps
I hope this will help.

So I'm attempting to get the latest Cyanogen Mod for my HTC Vivid.
This is all the instructions I see and this doesnt do enough for a noob like me.
Installation Instructions
Requirements
* Rooted (obviously) -- Check
* A brain -- debatable
Installation
1: If you are coming from another ROM do a full wipe -- Did that
1a: if this is just an update to THIS ROM BASE you can simply wipe cache and dalvik cache
2: Flash gapps (download below) -- Does the Gapp have the ROM in it? I think not from reading this thread
3: Reboot --- But I havent installed the ROM yet.
4: Enjoy CyanogenMod 10.1
I've looked everywhere on this site for a HOW-to-Install a ROM guide and I cant find one anywhere in the HTC Vivid boards.
Any links would be most helpful.

Ok, so you just don't have the 2nd thing (a brain)...
Just kidding
Ok. The way you install the rom is
You have to have a custom recovery
You download the rom.zip and put that on your SD card
You go to your recovery, and do a full wipe (search what that is)
Then you install the rom.zip and boot the phone
If you are not S-OFF then you have to extract the boot.img from the rom.zip and flash that separately (search how to flash a rom when S-ON).
When you've installed the rom boot the phone.
IF you want GAPPS then go to the recovery again and install GAPPS.zip
GAPPS are just APKs and are not the whole ROM.
Now just boot the phone again.
And that's it, you're done.

Is it too late to change my name to FUBAR?
So made a TWRP back-up of my phone.
I did the wipe
I loaded Cyanogen 10.1 but it just cycled at the Cyanogen splash screen for about 15 minutes.
I pulled the battery and tried it all again.
This time I did it via the ROM Manager.
I did a backup to Clockwork Mod recovery
I wiped
But now NADA -- Just the White HTC screen.
I can get to the Bootloader screen but when I do fastboot it comes up saying No image found.
Methinks I backed up something non-existent and then flashed back to that non-existent or empty ClockWork Mod.
Is the white HTC screen symptomatic of a hard brick or soft brick?

I dont what S-On/S-Off is.
When I fastboot it says no img found.
I can't find my card reader but I'm pretty sure, nay hopeful, that all the images I need are on the SD card. So at this point I believe that I just need to find a way to bootload off my sd card. But I can't do that just using the phone alone because my phone has no OS on it at this point. It's just a device.

Havent figured out how to flash anything because my phone is just a device and no OS. All I get is the HTC white screen. When I go to flashboot it complains that there is no image. Everything I've tried from just the device has come up nil. Not restore factory settings, not anything from the bootloader menu. The device not connected to anything is poo-poo platter.
Assuming I need to find out how bootload from an image loaded on my computer with the device attached via my cord.

Cyanogen OS system upgrade

Hi all

You flash using TWRP. The zip can be put on sdcard (internal or external).
The dalvik cache holds some sort of compiled java code. For minor upgrades one can perhaps leave it untouched. For major upgrades one typically wipes it. It does not hurt to wipe dalvik cache. After install, it is regenerated as part of the android upgrade.
Note that stock firware is probably unrooted so you may want to reinstall supersu update zip from twrp. Also, upgrade may or may not overwrite twrp with stock recovery so you may have to reflash twrp.
I have not done the upgrade myself (I will one day, I have no Swift, a friend has one).
Success

I don't know if it has any decryption problems, but dirty flashing lower level updates causes less issues (in this case, instead of 12.1 to 13.0 you are doing a 13.0 to 13.1 and instead of an android 5.1 to 6.0 you are doing a 6.0 to 6.0)
I compared cm-13.0 with cm-13.1 'fastboot' partitions and only following ones differ:
boot.img
emmc_appsboot.mbn
recovery.img
system.img
So I guess upgrade (even dirty) should be seamless.
I have no Wileyfox Swift but I maintain those of 2 friends.
I'll upgrade (and root + twrp) them without factory reset, just dalvik cache clean.
Updated (rooted) and slightly broke my Apps2SD in the fact that it is always and invariably asking me for a second soft reboot after initial startup (each taking a long time to complete) for it to be able to properly mount the second partition. This is never a problem that I have had to do prior to the update. Not a major fault but a nuisance nevertheless.

Many thanks. I was under the impression that this would only move the app (apk) itself but leave all the paraphernalia associated with it (data, obb... etc.) behind on internal memory. I will give it a try.
Currently on 13.1-ZNH2KAS29G, just got a prompt for another OTA update, cm-crakling-93b9ab5039-to-fdb0efc362-signed
Anyone know whats in this, and if the links on the CyanogenOS site have been updated to include this?
I can't currently install the OTA because I have TWRP recovery installed

It is definitely an update, but not available as full package. You can install it and reinstall the recovery (download via updater app and locate it, copy to separate directory, install 13.1 full, install ota, install twrp, install super SU)
But i have not tried it because i am on holiday without a pc...
Report back if that's working!

Do you know where exactly the updater app downloads it to?
Installed the new update yesterday. It looks like a security update. I think that this will fix the latest issues with the Qualcomm chip. But I don't know it for sure.

Getting 1.4 GB OOS 4.0.2 ota update instead smaller 30 MB

Hi,
I am currently in OOS 4.0.1 rooted with superSU 2.79 and official TWRP 3.0.3. I got ota update OOS 4.0.2 few days back which I downloaded and clicked install. After reboot, it showed couldn't install update and I was back to OOS 4.0.1 without any side effects.
However, today I again got ota notification for 4.0.2 but this time its full 1.4 GB size. I haven't downloaded it yet. I just wanted to ask the community why is this happening. I don't mind ota update but my impression is I can't install ota while I am rooted.
Has anyone experienced this before? If I try installing, will it have any severe side effect in case of failures?
Nilay
Your phone recognised that the smaller OTA file failed because your system had been modified. So it tries to flash the full OTA file in order to prevent any conflicts with the modifications you made by completely removing them all. It's a safety mechanism. If you flash the full OTA, you should be fine, but you'll lose root.

Will it also replace TWRP with stock recovery? What about my apps, data, settings etc.? I don't want to reconfigure everything right now and worry about backups. I can wait for bigger update (maybe with 7.1.x) to re flash full zip.
Also, is this update going to be like dirty flash?
Thanks

Its easier if you just download the full rom from oneplus's website and dirty flash it over your current setup and flash supersu immediately without rebooting to maintain root. You wont loose any data or custom settings on your device although its still advisable to make a backup of your data.

If you want to do an OTA upgrade, you have to flash stock recovery first, TWRP won't work.
After download before perform installation, you can find the downloaded full 1.4GB zip in your internal storage under ".OnePlusH2Ota" or "Android/data/com.oneplus.ota/files/.OnePlusOta", copy it out and flash it through TWRP. You won't lose your apps and settings unless you wipe /data or do a factory reset, you do needed to re-flash supersu though.

Need guidance on new flash!

For dirty flash its very easy to have all the configs and apps intact, but sometimes its recommended to have new flash or all features don't work in dirty flash so new flash is obvious.
And here remains the challenge, to get/restore everything back after the new flash. So I like to know from the experts about the easiest way to restore/get back everything (configs/apps/etc) without installing app by app and config everything individually again.
What is the best/full proved way to restore after a new flash?

I always use Miui backup.

Does MiUi backup works with Custom ROMs also?
I am more concerned with custom roms like RR, Lineage, etc.

I think there is not one way for all the cases. Better way is firstly via recovery TWRP only in case that be the same rom, I try ever first this option but not always works, you can backup absolutely all but maybe don´t restore all properly if you downgrade or upgrade to other version (i.e from marshmallow to nougat or from miui to lineageOs or viceversa), other possibility is make a flashable zip with all your apps, there are some tutorials about that, but never turned out for me. There are obviously different between settings from different roms. Finally after years of flash several roms I opt ever for Titanium Backup to restore data just from some apps like WhatsApp, browsers or games with records and install all my apps with ES File Explorer using multiselection and click then one by one, also there is a file explorer with root installer, more faster to install like fx file explorer in Google Play
Thanks a lot SubwayChamp for your response.
on more question: is there any way to automate the things that I usually do after any new flash one by one, its like running a script kind of thing?

The problem will be mainly data restauration maybe for the incompatibility between different versions of firmware like marshmallow to nougat or versions of rom restoring data from miui to lineageOs. Any script (if exists) will do the same like recovery restoring data but that doesn´t change the stage. I didn´t find any app that can restore a multiselection by i.e of 20 apps without ask one by one to install, maybe someone knows and want to share. Here you have other method to backup and restore from pc, I didn´t use yet, but if you give a try, here´s the link of github of the app https://github.com/koush/support-wiki/wiki/Helium-Desktop-Installer-and-Android-App
