All good..
I am not here to judge but you have done the right thing and put in the disclaimer..
It's up to the individuals to work out what they want within thier setups and I take my hat off to the development guys..
I had 5 years working in China and so many of the HuB addons I have used over the years myself.. As it was almost the only way I could get good English TV on demand..
But you know the politics of it all and KODI as a organization has to distant itself from any involvement of p2p streams that maybe carry copyrighted materials..
The last thing they need and they have been down that track is court cases that send them as developers into the litigation pit..
On that note..I am on KODI 16 beta 3 and seems to be running fine..
And loaded it up..
Looks good..
Am looking at using Mikey's karaoke for coming Xmas party on Sunday ..
Got a house load of Philos turning up..and if you know anything about the Philippines..
They do love to sing..god help the neighborhood....

This is the best easy setup I've tried to date. Used to mostly stick with the TVAddOns setup. But this is 10 times better. Hope it's continued to be kept up to date.
I am actually running it on both 15.2 & 16 Beta 4. It is great on both. There are just a couple of add-ons that are not compatible or don't have a working update. But nothing major.
I do see it starting IPTVXtra at startup each time. I believe this is used for UK channels list or something more broad then that ? (Just trying to understand it)
Has anybody run it on a FireTV Stick. I wonder if the volume of options slows it down or makes it crash more often then on the FTV 1st Gen (Has not crashed on any of my 1st Gen FTV's). Maybe some stuff can be made more optional then all in one. Maybe the international part can be split into 3 optional install zip's. But it seems to be pretty awesome as is. Plan to test this setup on a couple FTVS's probably tomorrow.
Thanks again for posting this. Please keep sharing & letting us know of updates for this great setup. :good:

Yes iptvextra is for the international section mainly for the Asian section, and for the addons that currently dont work will get fixed in the next update took some time off for the holidays. This build was made specifically for the firesticks I currently have 4 running and a AFTV 2 no issues as long as you clear the cache and the packages about every week and the thumbnails about every couple of weeks( to save on space). As for the splitting up, thats in the works for future builds, just follow my facebook page for updates.
Thank you for the input.

Great, Should not be a problem on the FTVS's... Glad that's the case. I plan on switching from my Rooted 1st Gen FTV's to FTVS's. And just upgrade to either 2nd Gen FTVS's or 3rd Gen FTV's next year. So this is the perfect Kodi setup for FTVS's.
Keeping Kodi clean should not be a problem for me since I like to clean the cache each time I close or open Kodi. And the packages maybe every other day. I do need to do the thumbnails wipe more often. You have it perfectly setup. It's so easy to get things done.
Got a ? - I see that the (*Start) Favorites menu is pre-filled with shortcuts... After watching an updates video on how to fix Genesis on YouTube I saw that this setup probably uses shortcuts within the Favorites (*Star) menu for the shortcuts in the SubMenu Set's. Am I correct on this ?
I guess I can just add my own Favorite either to the top or bottom of the list for easy access if needed. I mostly temporarily save to Favorites specific links for current sports games when I'm interested on switching between them. Also if I find a movie or show on an add-on that uses the overall Favorites as their Favorites list so I don't have to search for hard to find content again. Maybe you have a better way to deal with these cases. Or I missed something.
Bottom line I wanted to confirm if removing any of the links already in (*Star) Favorites will cause some of the SubMenu links shortcuts to stop working. ??
PM me if you think I am getting to much into the weeds in this thread.

No bud your completely fine with all the questions the more the marry-er so everyone will know aswell, but no it will not harm the sub menu if you remove the favorites. your actually the first person to want this, so I just created a small wizard for this--- if you clear cache a couple times then goto fire wizard you will find a new one called "Clear my favorites so you can add your own" and it will clear them all, the process will take about 4 sec and a quick force stop and it will be clear. :victory:

Worked like a charm. All cleared now. Although in the future I might keep some of those links. I am just testing things out on this build. I will do a final clean install after I test & learn more.
It did seem to loose somewhat access to the Add-on Shortcuts that are only used by one of the sections (X). Seems they where linked to Favorites shortcuts instead of directly to Video add-ons. The icons disappeared so you could not tell what you where choosing. Very easy fix. But might be something to change in the future on the over all build.
I went thru most of the Favorites links right now before clearing things. About 33-45% did not seem go be working right. But like you said. You will probably be updating them after the holidays.
Guess my next ? would be how minor & major updates will be done in the future. Would the "Clean Slate" option be needed & there for we would loose any shortcuts or other mods we have done on our end ?
Also wonder if there is a way to get specific Movies &/or Videos from Genesis to show up or be savable to Super Favorites since it lets you create folders. Unlike the internal Favorites option within Genesis. Have you ever been able to do that ?
Thanks for all the help & knowledge... :highfive:

yes the links that are not working will be fixed after the holidays.
When the updates are done you just do the wizard again
yes the clean slate option will wipe kodi like new but leave my plugin
with genesis you cannot use super favorites to save them all the other addons you can though
I will throw my 2cents on as loaded it up on to the FT stick I have here..
KODI 16 beta 3
I have got the thumbs and all artwork out to the NAS..
Saves all that space getting taken up on these low memory devices..
Seems to be working fine..
I just haven't had time to explore it further..but as a one stop shop.. Does the trick..
Once again..did notice a few idiots getting slammed in kodi forums for being blockheads and not separating the Kodi questions from... Undiscussed addons..
But they will learn..as we all have..
Maybe if people are interested they can learn about the substitution methods available to them for thumbs..works a treat once you have a good setup going..
I can't get Kodi to force close after installing the zip. Am I missing something?
Edit - All set. :good:

Thanks Monkey1230. Hope you had a great XMas. Taking both updates for a spin. The updates are looking really good.
So I wrote down the upgrade steps with a few notes/?'s in ( ) . Please confirm or clarify them for us.
So to update we just need to:
1. Clear Cache, Clear Packages & Clear Thumbnails. - (Maybe not needed since Clean Slate might take care of this ??? )
2. Regularly close Kodi & Reboot Kodi. - (Maybe not needed - See ? above)
3. Run Clean Slate. - (The sub-menu link under "Maintenance" for "Clean Slate" seems to be down. Maybe as a safety design ?? or just a bad link ??)
It takes you to a "Now Exit Kodi" screen. Although nothing has been cleared.
-From there Clean Slate can be access by clicking on the ".." above "Now Exit Kodi" then clicking on "Program add-ons" where you will see "Clean Slate".
-Another option to accessing Clean Slate is to go to "Addons" from Kodi's home screen then "Program" where you will find "Clean Slate".
4. Once you've clicked on "Clean Slate". Read & follow the prompts to confirm you want to erase everything (Minus "Fire TV Wizard" & "Clean Slate"). Once you get to the "Now Exit Kodi" screen. Hit the back button & "exit" out of Kodi the normal way you always do.
5. Now you may restart a clean install of Kodi. Now that your back to stock Kodi it will start to do the initial boot-up updates like before. Just go to "Programs" then "Program add-ons" then "Fire TV Wizard" then "Fire TV Guru Builds" and choose which ever flavor of the two updated builds you prefer.
6. Wait for the update to be downloaded & installed. Then follow the force reboot prompts to force close Kodi. Confirm "Yes, Close".
- If "Force Close Kodi" fails for some reason (It's happen to me once). You can always click on your remotes "Home" button & go to the Amazon or FireStarter Apps menu & do a "Force Stop" from there.
7. Now it is time to Start Kodi anew. Make sure you wait for all updates of the add-ons to finish. (Take note that you might end up with some add-ons not being compatible if your running a Beta of the latest Kodi.)
Please let me know what I got wrong ? I've underline the parts where I still have .

So to update we just need to:
1. Clear Cache, Clear Packages & Clear Thumbnails. - (Maybe not needed since Clean Slate might take care of this ??? )
Clear Cache, packages, thumbnails are to be done on a weekly basis, Clean Slate is recommended if you dont want the old addons I removed to remain but you dont have to. You can just goto Fire Wizard Under the maintenance tab and then choose which build you want.
2. Regularly close Kodi & Reboot Kodi. - (Maybe not needed - See ? above)
There really isnt a need to close or reboot, but inorder for the firestick/box to sleep just press the home button or you can shut it down by using the power button in the lower left corner
3. Run Clean Slate. - (The sub-menu link under "Maintenance" for "Clean Slate" seems to be down. Maybe as a safety design ?? or just a bad link ??)
Should be working
It takes you to a "Now Exit Kodi" screen. Although nothing has been cleared.--- you must restart kodi ( in a future reslease I will tweak the code to force close Kodi
-From there Clean Slate can be access by clicking on the ".." above "Now Exit Kodi" then clicking on "Program add-ons" where you will see "Clean Slate".

So I did some more testing & narrow down the minor bugs or oddities a bit further.
1. So if we also want to keep any saved Favorites we have added or if we want to keep the shows/movies we have watched marked as watched from whatever add-on we should not do a Clean Slate & just flash the update on top ? aka dirty update. You will let use know if there ever is a reason for doing a Clean Slate update.
2. In this instance what I meant by "Regularly close Kodi & Reboot Kodi." was that after performing a "Clear Cache, Clear Packages & Clear Thumbnails" a restart of Kodi was needed. Specifically after a Clear Thumbnails. But since its not needed for a dirty or clean slate update. I will take this off the list as an update step & only put it as a weekly maintenance note.
3. I was able to narrow down what was causing the Clean Slate Maintenance shortcut to not work right. The only FTV that gave me that problem was on Kodi 16 Beta 4. I reinstalled Kodi 15.2 & it started to work correctly. On Kodi 16 Beta 4 the Clean Slate shortcut only works the very first time you click on it after a fresh install of Kodi.
Note that in Kodi 15.2 if you hit the Clean Slate shortcut key but choose "No" on performing the Clean Slate. The shortcut will stop working correctly until you restart Kodi. On Kodi 16 Beta 4 even if you restart Kodi the shortcut key will not work correctly again after the first time clicked. It will just skip to the "Done" screen although nothing was cleared.
The force close Kodi after a Clean Slate like you mentioned would be ideal.
7. Good reminder. Any version of Kodi can get overwhelm by a flood of add-on updates. If it freezes for more then 30 seconds its time to hit home & force close Kodi from the Apps Settings of whichever launcher (Fire TV or FireStarter) you are using.
_____________________________________________________
- A very minor oddity I have notice is that on Kodi 16 Beta 4 the splash screen aspect ratio is fine. It stretches to what ever size TV you are using. But on Kodi 15.2 the splash screen is always 3/4 of the size of any screen on any model of TV. I looked to see if I could tweak any settings on Kodi to fix this but have not found a solution yet.
- Also at this time there are two add-ons that are "incompatible due to unmet dependencies" when running Kodi 16 Beta 4. Those are "Desirulez" & "Filmesonlinegratis". Not sure how vital those two add-ons are under the hood. But I would recommend staying on Kodi 15.2 for the fullest/smoothest setup. Although Kodi 16 Beta 4 seems very close to Stable.
- Also an option that seems to be missing is for a manual way to force Kodi to check for updates on the left screen hidden menu. I know that Kodi is set to "Auto updates: On". But like on the stock Kodi. It would be good to also have the shortcut to manually "Check for updates" under "Misc options" on the left side hidden menu.
Thanks again for sharing your hard work with us. Will await your response.

Are you saying that it is just not recommended or that it actually has been remove. The thing is that on both 15.2 & 16 Beta 4 whether is a fresh stock install or after rebooting post the Clean Slate option. The "Check for updates" option is there every time. And when I click on it I see it check for updates.
The place where this option shows is under System/Settings/Add-ons/ Then if you click the left arrow button so the left hidden menu shows. You will then see under "Misc Options":
Auto updates: On
Notifications - Checked
Hide foreign - Unchecked
Hide Compatible - Unchecked
Check for updates - (It's a clickable option. Not a setting like the ones above. This is the option I am talking about and it's present & functional on Confluence in Stock Kodi 15.2 & 16 Beta 4.)

does this fix the crash where it closed and wouldn't reopen for me (even after soft reset)?
I had to uninstall, reinstall to get it working again.
I don't think so.
Although I think I know the cause. I will have to roll the fix into another update.
I think there is a small window where the downloaded data file can be corrupted if the writing to flash is interrupted. It will be simple to fix. For now, if you hit it, uninstall reinstall is the only option.

Of course I do
AppFinder is all about making apps discoverable in the fastest way possible.
I think if you're not in the top 20 apps in the marketplace under any one of the categories, then as a developer you're invisible. AppFinder seeks to make it easier to find apps via search, and with the update, via browsing as well.
Update is in the hopper, still waiting for testing to complete...

the annoying thing is that it searches music and video as well. i can't just search for apps alone
locales
Ok, so I just figured out I've only been indexing the en-US locale
I've updated the data to include
{ "en-US", "en-GB", "en-IE", "en-CA", "en-IN", "en-AU", "en-HK", "en-SG", "de-DE", "fr-FR", "fr-BE", "de-AT", "de-CH", "it-IT", "en-NZ", "es-ES", "es-MX" };
this change is effective immediately as it is a data update. Still waiting for the update to make it through the approval process. It seems that the holiday has slowed things down a bit
The update finally arrived
Nice new features and still very fast. But unfortunately, in my case, it wont load after the second app start (even at first start if I switch the section). I always have to deinstall/reinstall again once the app was started.
Maybe you can take a look? Feels like a caching problem or something like that. I'm using a Samsung Omnia 7 in germany - if that helps
Feature wishlist:
1. add a settings screen to edit:
a.) the number of list entries on one page (10, 20, 50) to keep the app fast enough
b.) the section on loading (and maybe you also can set this to no section just for fast look-up app search - I used the app for this before the update)
2. Maybe you can use the OS-typical "left-to-right-scrolling-loading-dots" instead of the big ones?
3. New logo if there is enough time

Private Joker,
Thanks for the feedback.
First - there was a bug that only impacted the German locale! I was trying to save bandwidth by truncating unnecessary leading zeros in the price and this caused an exception when the locale was set to German. I've updated the data to include the leading zeros and this fixes the problem for Germans. You will have to uninstall and reinstall though to get it to work. I am very sorry for the inconvenience, and I really appreciate you taking the time to give me your feedback even though the app was not working for you at all. I hope you will try again given that the data has been fixed.
Regarding your feedback -
I think you are right on the mark for #2 and #3
I don't understand 2b.
regarding 1a.
perf should not be impacted by the number of items that are shown -
Appfinder actually transfers the marketplace data to the device and indexes it locally. I do this because the network is really, really slow. Aside from having artists and albums mixed up with apps in the marketplace search results, I also was tired of waiting for results to load. Scrolling through the apps means waiting.
The delay at the beginning is caused by reading the marketplace data from flash and indexing it in RAM. Occasionally the loading dots will appear after launching (like the first time that you use it) because AppFinder has transfered a new data file and needs to parse it again. Instead of delaying every 10 or so apps in the list, there is one delay at the beginning (which is relatively small). Right now parsing the file takes about 4 seconds.
Perf could be greatly improve if I had access to memory mapped file APIs. Further compressing the data would help as well - The really slowest part is really reading from the flash. I can improve perf when a network update occurs by reading from the flash in the background before blocking - this would drop the update delay from ~4 seconds to ~1 second.
I could also not query as you're typing -- Waiting until the enter button has been pressed would reduce CPU load and any chunkiness - pressing search would just render the apps instantly.
Anyway, really appreciate your positive attitude and willingness to give feedback in light of what must be a frustrating experience. Please give it another try.
Thanks,
Eric
Free & useful apps for Windows 8.
There are a couple of small apps for W8 on a few sites around the Web. I stress they are not my work, any credit needs to go to their authors.
But you can hit the thanks button for putting them all in one place for you!

i can't seem to make the office 15 installer in windows 8...
There is a 32/64 bit requirement for the Office, not sure which though. Head on to windows8italia for further info.
Whenever I download it directly to my tablet it takes three hours to get to 70% and then finishes soon after that.
Then when I try to open it, it says something is corrupted.
Has anyone else had a similar issue?
No, there's a Problem with Office 15 on Windows 8 only - on my Windows 7 (32 + 64 Bit) it's working.
thank you

Hi,
I did up a home replacement for my Nook simple touch, thought I would share it. This is an initial release, no doubt there are bugs, incompatibilities, etc, you were warned. There are no checks for other devices at this point, NST only.
Thanks to the nook community for the noogie.img file, touch nooter, and relaunch for source code ideas and various threads regarding quick refresh and e-ink support.
Disclaimer: Now, what I am using currently is the bare minimum, I have tried quite a bit of the work in this forum and it works well, but I wasn't satisfied or 100% confident and I wanted less installed. So, I restored my nook to stock, used noogie and copied over a rooted ramdisk. That was it, no touchcolortools, nooktouchtools installed, adw minimal this or that, or button saviors. I am sure they are great programs but I don't know enough about them or have the interest/time to do research on them to want to keep them installed.
For me, the point is to keep things simple and maintain battery life. It's an e-reader not a tablet after all. I just want to read books, check email, check a website or two, get some more use out of wi-fi since I don't live in a B&N supported nation.
To install:adb install EPubBrowser.apk
Optional:
I also installed Email.apk and set up my gmail from there, no certificates required or a million google app files and plucking a chicken on a Tuesday after jumping on your left foot crap. No offense to those who like chicken plucking.
adb install Email.apk
Done and done.
I can do up a CWM zip upon request, but last going off I have a continuous reboot after installing the latest version and if you know enough to get the Nook's CWM installed you should be able to use adb.See attached files.
What is not working:
Since Android doesn't really know about multiple external storage locations (at least for the Nook's 2.1 and/or my knowledge of android) EPubBrowser is unable to detect when the internal storage has been remounted, there is no notification of that, just notification of external storage. So if you plug in your usb cord to the computer the list of books will be empty even when you remove it. So if you don't have an sdcard you will have to hit the back button and launch home again to refresh.
Also, B&N books are not listed, whatever is in My Files will be scanned only. That applies to internal and sdcard storage. You can still use B&N's Library to access those.
I don't have any option of uninstalling apps either. adb uninstall works fine or you can just delete files from /data/app via adb shell.
What is working:
Launch of EPubBrowser via nook's home button, without use of nooktouchtools, it duplicates how the B&N home app works.
The notification icon for resuming reading goes through the app. As long as the book was launched from EPubBrowser it can remember the last book, otherwise the main display will show up. Reason being that for whatever reason the last page read doesn't work with the B&N home screen if it's not a book bought from B&N. But if you are just using the B&N Reader app it's not a problem.
When you are prompted which home you want you can select EPubBrowser and hit default. This may not stay set and will go away the next time you reboot.
How to use:Left / right swipes to go to the next 6, previous 6 books, no indication of the current page is displayed, (e-ink and aesthetics).
Touch a book cover to launch a description of the book, swipe up and down to scroll through the description, touch the cover displayed there to start reading. Hit back button on top of screen to exit without launching a book.
To bring up the list of apps installed, swipe a clockwise circle starting at 10 O'clock. Touch an app to launch it, left or right swipe to go back to main screen. That's it for now.
If you have any ideas for improvements, bug reports, please provide as much detail as possible, and when you have done that add some more detail.
Cheers!
Updates:
2/19/2012:
Added screensaver for last read book. (Jpeg 75%) Settings->Display->Screensavers->EPubBrowser
11/4/2012:
Added src project
Looks nice! I'll give it a shot later when my Nook's charged.
Thank you for making and sharing, i am going to try tomorrow and tell you,
Improvements
First of all, thank you for creating this cool launch screen. I love the simplicity of it. Here are is brief list of improvement that you can perhaps easily implement.
-When on the homescreen with the covers of all the books, I am not sure if I am suppose to scroll down or to the right to view the rest of my books.
-When on the page with the details from the book, there is no back button to take you back to the homescreen. I end up using the button savior back button.
-The circle gesture that takes you to the apps does not feel very responsive to me.
Anyhow, great job. Can't wait to see how you plan on improving it
OW MY EYES
I installed this, and everything just kept flashing. GO Locker and GO Launcher are both broken, and the only way I could fix it was by getting into ADW and closing the task. Did I install it incorrectly? I put it onto an SD card and used ES File Manager to install it.

Hi,
Thanks for the feedback.
You swipe left to go to the previous page of books. You swipe right to go to the next page of books, assuming you have more than 6 books. Personally, I know what books I have on the device so it's not a problem knowing how many are left to see for me.
The back button should be on top of the screen in the middle, not sure why it wouldn't be there on yours. I will give it a think, maybe remove the scroll control in the book description and just use gesture detection and scroll the text via code.
Responsiveness and speed will likely improve over time, I am using the gesture library, maybe there are some optimizations there I can do.
Cheers!

Hi,
Noted, so it doesn't work with GO Lancher/Locker. Never tried GO stuff, so that wasn't tested. It was tested with ADW and relaunch, and I had all the rest of your typical touch nooter install there without problems, android market, etc.
I have run it with Home.apk renamed to Home.apk.bak and that works fine as well.
As for your other question, if it is installed it is installed, there are no configurations to modify, however you get it there it should be fine.
Cheers!

Noted that it does not work with go, will have to get rid of that first.
From the screenshots, I can already tell you put time into polishing! Good job!

I'll try it again without the GO software, but it was making everything just keep flashing, like the lock screen.
@NFHimself, any plans for taking this to github? It is very close to what I always wanted but I was also looking for:
- some kind of usage of Calibre data
- library filtering for series, highly rated, etc.
- tracking of books that are clicked to maintain sort of recent read filter
- sorting options by rating, series, and other Calibre properties
- option to display 6 or 12 (smaller) book covers.
I hope it already does use intents for selecting a different epub reader for those who have no defaults and multiple ones installed.
I know its a long list, and I have some Android experience. I am sure there would be other developers here so a combined effort might help.

Hi,
I use Calibre as well, I just connect via adb and calibre picks up the nook and I copy books over and it converts on the fly, cool program. Using Calibre data is an idea worth looking into, if I can fit it into the theme of no preferences, no extra buttons or config. There are plenty of those kind of home apps already. Relaunch for one is great, just missing a graphical front end, I was going to mod that, but decided that I didn't really need so much stuff and I wanted to learn more android API.
I did up the app using pretty straight forward epub standards (note the plural), it works with most epubs I have run across, not sure if looking for extra xml is a good functionality vs performance tradeoff. I haven't been using EPubBrowser for very long myself, so when I add more books and find something annoying I will probably make changes to fix it. I want to keep things simple, if I need a preferences menu, it is already going the wrong way.
I am not specifying any class, just a regular launch this epub file intent, so it should work with any reader. I like the stock reader myself, cool reader seems to dislike some epubs I have above a certain size, and I didn't want to deal with it.
I may github it, I am kinda time limited these days.
Cheers!

Hi,
More details are needed to figure that out. What device do you have? What do you have installed on it?

I just wiped then manually rooted my Nook, and this works now. Although I'm having some trouble with getting to the apps page after the first time I did it. Could you possible change how you get to the apps page? Maybe change it so you have to click the menu key to get to apps.
Edit: Now that I've added my books, it shows me two books, one empty, and another book. Now it just flashes and removes/re-adds the last book. :/
Edit 2: I found that there are a few books that just don't like this launcher and cause the entire Nook to start flashing. I've been adding my books one by one to see which work and which don't and I'll try and find similarities between those that don't.
Great launcher replacement.
Running right now, but after the second page, I get sent back to the first, regardless of left-to-right or right-to-left swiping. Ideas?
Also, any chance for a page up/down use for scrolling through books?
I took a quick vid. It looks like when I swipe again from R to L, it tries to redraw the next books, but gets confused?

Hi,
I'm busy painting the baby's room, but it looks like it is resetting, perhaps one of your books is crashing the app and it is being relaunched as the home screen. Or could be some other bug, how many books are involved, if you remove one or add one, does it go away?
If someone could open the e-pub (it's a zip file) that causes the error and paste the contents of the .odf file (it's an xml file) , that would help.
Cheers!

I've gone through and removed / added ebooks, and still the same problem.
Sorry, been kinda busy.
I need to be able to see the bug on my end to work on it. Maybe I've been lucky with the book selections I have made or converting using Calibre has set them all to have the same kind of format, vs the variety you might see in the wild from multiple sources.
Does the error happen with no books?
What happens when you have just one book?
How many books do you have on your nook? (If it's something like 1000 then yeah, maybe you'd have issues, no checks in the code for being out of memory.)
What firmware are you using?
Are there any hardware differences? (Can't imagine that being a problem, but I am using a NST, not the original Nook.)
What can I do to reproduce this error on my end? What are the steps?
Cheers!

For me, it doesn't matter how many books I have, it's just a few specific books that crash, independent of the other books in my library, and some books are more severe than others (one makes the entire Nook start flashing (all software), others make only this app flash).
I have the same problem as the people above but I can't get past the first page. I can't seem to narrow it down to a certain book making it crash. It's a shame I love this home screen, but hopefully we can get this fixed and running great.
Okay, so I've owned my fire tv for about a month now, and I'm getting a low memory pop-up (currently have 607 mb left). I've cleared the cache, uninstalled apps, deleted some tv shows, and movies. I've tried to find a step-by-step tutorial pertaining to the unrooted installation of XBMC on how to move the thumbnails, and have came up empty. This is surprising considering the abundance of information out there in regards to the fire tv. I think that their should be a guide to help other newbies understand how to avoid the "Low memory issue." Right now there is nothing, the only thing I could find was something about changing the path sub of the thumbnails to nas or bignas1 (which does not require root) but there is no clear info on how to put your thumbnails in there or take them out. Anyways, if someone could make a simple guide for other novices' explaining the procedure that would be cool, Thanks!!!
Changing your thumbnail path to an external USB drive requires root. Anything involving an external USB drive requires root.
You can change your thumbnail path to a network share or NAS without needing root though.
Some other things to consider:
Are you using an advancedsettings.xml file to change your cachememberbuffersize setting? If you have cachememberbuffersize set to 0 in your advancedsettings.xml file, that defaults all cache to the local hard drive and you don't use RAM at all for cache. Most people don't realize that when you set that to 0, you're using hard drive space and ignoring RAM. That 0 setting was meant to help on devices with limited RAM but excess HD space. On the FireTV that 0 setting can have a big impact on storage since the HD space is limited. I don't recommend that setting on FireTV. If anything you should use a set value instead of zero, so you keep your cache in RAM, but still have a set limit so the device doesn't use up all the RAM for cache and crash itself. That won't use any HD space for cache. I've never had any cache or buffer issues with that config.
More info on cachememberbuffersize: http://kodi.wiki/view/HOW-TO:Modify_the_video_cache
Also.... are you using any plugins that are set to download movies/TV/music while streaming? Some plugins, like Icefilms, are set by default to download the video in the background while you're streaming. That can use up a large chunk of storage, if not all of it. Go to the plugin configuration page for each plugin and check to see if anything is downloading in the background. I've seen Icefilms do this frequently.
You can also reduce the size of your thumbnails in most plugins. Again, go to the plugin config for each of your plugins and see if you can change the thumbnail/metadata size to a lower quality.
I don't believe there's a noob guide for this. But there are some apps available that will help with clearing space. I use the XBMCHub Maintenance Tool. That has options for clearing all your current thumbnails, as well as deleting old plugin packages which can also clear space.
Hope that helps.

I was totally unaware of this and am looking into doing this utilizing advanced settings. Can you let me know what you set the cache settings to. Are you using all three options in HOW-TO:Modify the video cache?
advancedsettings.xml - Cache settings
1 - Choose what to buffer→ Thinking of using "2 Only buffer true internet filesystems (streams) (http, etc.)" as I only stream from addons.
2- Increasing the cache→ Not sure what number to set for cache to avoid caching to my hard drive.
3- Increase the fill-rate of the cache→ Not sure what to set the fill-rate to.
Any help on this would be greatly appreciated.
Thumbnails are the pictures/posters/screenshots that come up as icons for every movie, TV show, show episode, and posted video that you browse/check out/click on INFO, whether you play it or not, and they are saved in Storage Data, taking up Available Internal Space, and do not disappear/get erased on their own. Their continued existence is the reason KODI slows down over time, and can lock up completely if remedial measures aren’t taken. The Caches and Packages and Thumbnails (NOTICE THE ORDER) need to be cleaned out when the FTVS begins to noticeably slow, or at some point to prevent the slowing, hence my recommendation regarding weekly or monthly maintenance. 5 minutes maintenance once or twice a month should not be too much to do to keep FTVS/ KODI operating properly.
RAW MAINTENANCE PROGRAM: To clear Avail Space and Data /Thumbnails
Install Raw Maintenance program in order to clear out the cache/packages/thumbnails, IN THAT ORDER, to keep the FTVS/KODI running smoothly. Open the NOISSUE repo, scroll to and select the Maintenancerepo.rawmaintenance.zip > back out and select “Install from zip file” > scroll up to Install from Repo and select > scroll to RawMediaKodi and select > back out and select Program Addon > select RawMaintenance and install > then back out to Services > scroll to and select RawMaintenance Services and install > back out to the KODI menu bar.
Then go to Programs on the KODI main page menu bar, click on Program Addons, scroll to the RAW MAINTENANCE addon, click, scroll to the MAINTENANCE (orange triangle) icon, click, and you will see icons for Clear Cache, Delete Thumbnails, and Purge Packages. PAY ATTENTION HERE!!! Click on the each of the icons Cache/Packages/Thumbnails, IN THAT ORDER, (left/right/center order, NOT the left-center-right order displayed on the screen), and click on the OK that comes up each time, then use the BACKUP BUTTON (upper left one in the two rows of three buttons, the bent sideways arrow) four times out to the KODI main page and click down to the POWER BUTTON on the main KODI screen below the menu bar in the lower left corner (circle with a vertical hash mark half into it) and select, then click on the EXIT box that comes up above the menu bar. KODI will close and take you back to the FTVS main screen or the Manage Installed Apps section, depending on how you entered KODI. You can click on the KODI icon to re-enter, but if you return through the Manage Installed Apps way, you will see the Avail Space and Data amounts have reset to about 4GB and less than 1GB, respectively.
Thorn in my side
I keep clearing cache packages and thumbnails I also try new build on fire tv and my RAM is getting worse. I believe that what I'm cleaning isn't deleting it getting stuck someplace and I've tried to find it in my file directory and esee file manager I've downloaded apps to try and clean it with those but I'm stuck in can't seem to think of any other places to look. ANY SUGGESTIONS WOULD BE GREAT.
RAM? Dont touch ram. Android 5.x.x and above is more than capable of managing it on its own.
Some people are playing around with disabling AFTV launcher, when they don't use it (understand, that you are disabling settings, and the launcher grid with it - so have another method of launching apps ready - or you will have to resort to adb commands as a last fallback - to get it back). - I don't.
As for diskspace -
1. don't touch Kodis advancedsettings.xml undless you know what you are doing. I know what I am doing, and I still havent changed the default caching behavior in there.
2. Moving Kodis image cache to an external drive should only be necessary if you have a large collection of movies/shows on a local server/drive (and with large I am talking 300+ items), that you always want to have indexed in Kodi.
3. If thats not the case, use Raw maintenance once in a while - and you will be fine.
To see whats filling up the Firetv besides Kodi, use https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.rjhartsoftware.storageanalyzer (you need a mouse (mouse emulator) to effectively use it).
edit you can use
adb shell dumpsys meminfo
to see whats taking up memory at any specific time - but ram "cleaners" arent the solution, imho.
New Way to Bypass LG - Google Factory Reset Protection on VARIOUS Devices!
Ignore the poor grammar, typos etc.. Bits and pieces from notes.
--needed--
bluetooth (needed)
data cable (needed)
computer (needed)
Factory reset phone, forward through setup wizard and turn on wifi then... --->
enable service menu with tool - so youll need to select the modem port then on the app goto "open port lg" then after this goto option "open hidden menu" now you are in the hidden menu. --->
goto - on hidden menu .. field test -> gps test -> gnss test or gns pos test -> now youll see a warning screen hit ok. youll now be in location within settings ---->
turn on -> google location history at bottom click it -> top right 3 dots click then view/manage which brings you out to maps.. now hit back button and you will be in maps now.
-
online way - online way into the removal process
offline way - offline way around and into the removal process
-online way -> Hit top left 3 bars and then start driving and set destinations to KFC for example, start driving then press the mic at top right and say "settings"
[Online] In settings goto Apps -> disable and force stop if you want, google play services, both setup wizards, google account manager, and google services framework and also clear data for each also if you want
Next reboot, and when phone opens up to setup wizard use your bluetooth and say open google or just press it and on the google screen when it pops up search for example gmail then scroll down through the results until you see a big gmail icon and 3 dots to the left.. hit these and share.. it might also look like a share icon instead then share to msgs ... put in a random number and some txt, attach your location by hitting the paperclip. make sure to send it (doesnt actuially go through unless youve active service card in..)
Click on the location link and click connect and it will open up maps, start a route, start driving then push the microphone and say open settings. When settings opens up goto Security and enable unknwon sources.. press bluetooth again and say open google or toggle back to the google search screen (bluetooth is your best bet as UI will crash sometimes and put you back at the setup wizard)
When google opens click on the G at top left then search for example "frp video youtube" for example.. scroll down results until you see a youtube site link and click on it. This *should* open up youtube once it opens up top right click and goto about and this will open chrome ..now search in google this http://google.com
download these: (your typical stuff for example "vnrom_frp, gam_6.0, apex launcher (or any other launcher... id suggeat older versions as newer can reset your order and land you back at the setup wizard) .
[Offline] Hit 3 left lines at top and then go down to offline areas and youll see offline areas settings then click on settings under "to save your cellular data while using google maps" click top right 3 dots and click show tab view now all the settings sections are back
Turn on bluetooth and pair ear piece incase you mess up and need to get back to zomewhere
Follow through as you would online version.
Let me know if you find the AT commands!
Credits for app attached in next post goto those Yemen Fellas who have so far been able to bypass anything in front of them LG/Samsung Carrier - Sprint!! Tracfone --> FRP/Unlock
Credits also to XDA user @CXZa as if it weren't for him i probably would not have looked deeper into AT commands (still have barely scratched the surface).
almost forgot... here is the app to use in the steps leading into the OS for factory reset bypass.
Tap this and that.. These are kind of fun - sometimes. Sometimes quite complicated.
This one is for LG m250f 2017. Should work for mine too, m250n.
(Two seconds wasted...)
Not long ago I accidentally removed my Google account when testing vold triggers.
Simply by doing
setprop vold.decrypt trigger_shutdown_framework
and
setprop vold.decrypt trigger_restart_min_framework
did the trick. Other accounts are kept and no resets, etc... only but is that you have to have a root access...
The min framework was totally empty of icons, didn't ask for the pin.
I don't how the trick works on other devices. It was a LG...
To restart normally after it.
setprop vold.decrypt trigger_reset_main
setprop vold.decrypt trigger_restart_framework
Thanks. I will take a look. Almost seems like everything I am doing is too much. These LG devices are a tad bit more difficult in areas i guess you could say.
also.. hope you ignored all the other b#ll**** I had in the removal guide ha.. simply my personal notes.

There isn't any good or bad, nor better in these, IMO. As long as some method works it has done its job perfectly.
Yeah, many times LG is in a league of its own, in many ways...
