ROM Overhaul ......
Ok so I noticed that most of the ROMs that I have used here including my own has been recreating the wheel so I have decided to go back to my roots and make pure AOSP with only the "fixes" found here and from AOSP so my ROM has become "clean" and basically stripped of its samplings from other developers written code to pursue my own originality so if you want just a basic AOSP ROM here is where you can come.

Happy Holidays to All!!!
Running your latest build and its really smooth. I'm hoping the WiFi not reconnecting after tablet sleep bug is not present but it did take a while for it to reconnect.
Running the latest version, it resets every once in a while. Doesn't seem to be tied to any particular app or activity.
Thanks I will look into that at the moment I am in the process of updating and fixing some of the bugs I've found
Ok as an update my ubuntu partition crashed on me and I lost most of everything so I'm back to square one again ..... but I have decided to take a different path .... I see that no one has maintained a completely vanilla rom, by vanilla I mean no features, no google, just Open Source Android, so this is what I will be offering from here on out .... vanilla android with my own fixes and coding (the little that I know how to do) and I'm going open source also I have received some pm's about adding devices to my rom ... and the only devices I have are the spcs gnex and the N10 these are the only devices I will maintain for since I can't possibly troubleshoot for a device I dont have .... so for anybody that was using my rom thanks and maybe I can catch you on the vanilla side (you know after you get bored with your full featured CyOKPAMuzEOS beast roms lol)
alright I'm completely vanilla now, ROM posted in the OP also I may have corrected that wifi disconnect issue haven't had a problem with wifi sleep or random resets on my n10 so hopefully you won't either
Do you have your locations enabled and no restarts? I've been having restart issues on cm,paranoid, ect. Hoping your rom will resolve these damn restarts.

Flashed this build last evening, gesture typing doesn't seem to be working. I've tried clearing the keyboard cache/force stopping it with no luck. I even tried force stopping android system - just cause. Everything else seems rock solid.
after I uploaded the roms I realized that I enabled gesture typing but did not fix the driver .... as a temporary fix you can delete libjni_latinime.so and rename libjni_latinimegoogle.so to libjni_latinime.so it will will be addressed in the next upload

Gotcha, thanks!
This I'd a very fast ROM. The keyboard fix worked fine. There is only one problem, the GPS doesn't work. Does anyone else have this issue?
Thanks for the great ROM!

when you say gps doesn't work can you give me more details I'm using google maps now and mine is working just fine
No satellites are in view and no signal is received from them. I've rebooted a couple of times and it still doesn't work. When I flash other ROMS the GPS works again. I really like your ROM and would prefer to run it. I've checked with GPS test plus and GPS essentials and get the same result.
Is there a log or some tool I could use to get you more information?

(Sorry, title should say 4.4.2, not 4.3. Brain not working today)
I updated my Galaxy Note 8 (GT-N5100) when the Android 4.4.2 update became available. It seems Hulu+ broke in the process. It now has extremely choppy playback, regardless of high, med or low quality. CS at Hulu has tried just about everything on their end to fix it for me, but nothing is working.
Advertisements of course load and play without a hitch, but as soon as the program starts the framerate drops.
Has anyone else noticed this? What was your fix (if you found one)?

Another reason I am waiting for developers to catch up... most likely they are moving on to Lolipop or Tizan since the market will be needing support for newer OS structures.
You should be sending feedback to Hulu about this, as they keep track of things, or try facebook and rant.
Hulu problems
I also had HULU problems after installing CIVATO's 4.4.2 rom. Frame rate is very low. Changing the quality has no affect. No other video playback issues including Netflix.
I contacted HULU support but they don't support rooted devices. They suggested re-installing which did nothing.

I have Minmin Xposed blocking ads and still get great playback with both Hulu and Netflix. Though last December Hulu had a lot of buffering and choppy playback. As each update has gotten better and better, the latest one seems best over all.
You may try Second Screen 1.4.4... right now 1.4.5 does not play well with Samsung Touchwiz.
It forces 1080p at 30fps on any connection and the display of your device. You won't be able to use your launcher in landscape mode, as it moves the icons too far to get at all of them. But once you start the app you get full screen without any issues. I cant get 720p to work properly, but I don't need it anyway.

I am on 4.2.2 but it will override and push HD both on screen and through connected displays.

Adblock Plus shouldn't be a problem since it only hooks into the browser.
I'm using Adaware, which blocks ads by modifying the hosts file, and if I don't disable it Hulu+ dies when it gets to the ads.

Thanks for the link. Unfortunately, on 4.4.2 SecondScreen crashes the device stopping the com.android.systemui immediately on reboot (I think that was the process I saw). I, therefore, had to uninstall it.
I've pm'd Civato who may be able to shed some light on this issue. I believe that I had Hulu working fine under his 4.2.2 rom.

Update: I installed civato's 1.9 rom (released 8-4 with kernel 5.4) and tested Hulu again. I still have very low frame rates that make it unusable. In addition, a new "sputtering" motion is affecting all apps during scrolling. Someone suggested installing the old kernel 5.1 which I shall try since clear all caches did not help.
Still hoping to hear from civato on this.

I just tried Hulu+ again on my N5110 and it works fine with FlexNote 1.9 without pauses or stuttering as long as I disable AdAway.
It might be a problem with your router or ISP (some are known to degrade service level for streaming sites) but I doubt that there's anything civato can do about it. Have you tried it with WiFi at another location that has a strong signal and high speed Internet connection?

Hmmm. I don't have AdAway installed. No issues with router or ISP - Hulu streams fine on my Mac and using Chromecast on the same broadband network. I'll keep searching for a solution. It's not significant enough for me to go back to 4.2.2.
Incidentally, the sputtered (i.e. jerky) scrolling of FlexNote 1.9 that I was experiencing is improved and smoother after re-installing civato's SphereKat 5.1 kernel. While better it is still not as smooth as I remember with FN 1.8 or the 4.2.2 ROM.
Thanks ramjet73!

Hmmm...
It sounds like you might want to try a clean flash of 1.9 if you haven't done that already. I believe the wipe option for that is "prepare for new ROM" in Philz Touch and "factory reset" in TWRP.

Took your advice, ramjet. Over the weekend I did a clean install of 1.9. Unfortunately nothing made Hulu play better. Their commercials do seem to work fine though.
I did come to a definitive conclusion about the visual sputtering that some other users also mentioned in the developer's forum. After going back and forth several times between civato's 5.1 kernel and his FlexNote's built-in 5.4 kernel, I have verified that the sputtering was indeed introduced with the kernel update. It is most visible when I slowly drag a widget back-and-forth across the screen. Some users may less attuned to it because, frankly, it is rather subtle but it is there. So I am staying with 5.1 for the time being.
Thanks.

There's a new version of Hulu+ in the Play Store today (2.15.0.201802). Maybe that will work better for you.
Also, @civato has released 2.0 of the FlexNote ROM with a new kernel.

Hey, ramjet. Just want to document my latest findings here in case anyone else (or the OP) has these issues. I upgraded to the FlexNote 2.0 ROM and the latest Hulu app. The result was no change for Hulu playback and the OS sputtering returned. I downgraded the kernel to civato's 5.1 and the sputtering went away for the most part.
Last week I decided to do a little more experimentation. I installed two AOSP derived ROMs, first Dirty Unicorns then CM, both of which are based on Android 4.4.4. Dirty Unicorns was the more feature filled but was missing some things that I needed.
The results were a little surprising to me. The responsiveness of the OS greatly improved from the standard ROM - everything is faster, even without overclocking. The sputtering is completely absent. Some apps still observe much scrolling stutters such as the NYTimes app but this seems to be app related rather than attributable to the OS. In fact, the typical stutters I have always observed are almost entirely gone - everything is smoother.
Oh yeah, Hulu works perfectly now. I can only conclude that 4.4.2 ultimately caused the Hulu problem.
Summary: I will remain on CM for the time being. Overall it is a more pleasant experience. I do miss a few Samsung derived apps such as S-note and MultiWindow, but not terribly so. There are S-note alternatives. I always used an alternative launcher anyway. If I had a larger tablet the MW feature would be more important but it is not so much with the Note 8. Besides I have always found MW to be rather flaky - apps I added to the available list somehow always disappeared. The last time I used it it sent the device into a boot loop which started this latest quest for a better tablet experience.
All credit to this ROM goes to rogersb11. The only thing I did was change the install script so that it works on the d2tmo. With that said, this is an unofficial ROM and is not supported in any way by the original developer. That means don't go bugging rogersb11 with any questions about this. It is unsupported. It is only here so us d2tmo users can enjoy his kick ass ROM until and if there is an official port.
I will help in any way that I can, this is what I am using for my daily driver right now and I love it.
The camera does not work. I don't use my camera much, so I am fine with that for now. If you need a working camera, then this is not the ROM you want on your phone.
A few notes before install.
Thanks to rogersb11 for the Cyanide ROM, TheGeekyNimrod for the d2att port, without which I could not have done this, and leonid002, because without his assistance, I would not have even known how to do this to begin with.
First let's discuss the bugs:
The AOSP Keyboard will continuously crash on you from the first boot. Make sure you have a Google keyboard APK at the ready. This ROM comes with ES File Explorer, thanks to rogersb11, who put the ROM together in the first place, so you should have no problem installing any APKs you need to install, even before replacing the keyboard.
Install Google keyboard, then disable your AOSP keyboard. One this is done your keyboard will work just fine.
The phone will self report as the i747, that is where this ROM came from. As soon as I find what I need to change to fix that, I will update.
I believe the camera bug is still here, havent tested it yet, so just download Nexus camera from the Play store.
Other than that, works great so far.
Anyway, now it is time for the... Wait for it...
DISCLAIMER:
Despite the quality of this ROM, it is an ALPHA build.
Neither I, or any developer is responsible if you brick your device in any way, you're neighbor steals it, your nephew flushes it down the toilet, or you somehow travel back in time to an alternate 2012 where the world comes to an end in December, resulting in your phone being destroyed. Any damage to your device is YOUR RESPONSIBILITY.
You should be able to use any current Lollipop gapps with this ROM.
INSTRUCTIONS:
Download ROM below
Install a recovery if you don't have one (I use TWRP Multiboot, found in this same forum)
Factory reset (wipe Dalvik, cache, you know the drill)
Install the ROM (link below)
Install Gapps
Reboot into Cyanide
Install Google keyboard (or maybe your favorite alternative, SwiftKey works, not sure about anything else yet)
Disable AOSP Keyboard
Enjoy.

One thing I like about this ROM over CM12 is that the option to adjust your DPI is baked right in. Another is the darker theme, and the fact that you can wake with the Home button once again.

Here's something for the webOS people: Download the app Swipe Home Button from the Play Store, and configure it so that swipe up brings up recents, and swiping far up brings up the app drawer. Do this and swap the Menu and Back buttons, and it feels that much closer to a Pre, albeit without a keyboard, and on much better hardware. I still wish I knew of a way to modify the recents so we could implement webOS 2.x like card stacks in some form. I will be trying to learn how I might be able to do that in my free time though, that was always my goal since I got an Android phone, was to try and make the UI as intuitive as webOS was. Lollipop delivered with that in a big way, but I guess I'm a little OCD and am nitpicking the small details at this point. I'm not sure how much of it is lollipop, and how much of it is from the Cyanide coder's skills, but it's snappy as hell, and definitely made huge steps towards what I wanted to see Android become.
Now just to get rid of Google's intrusiveness (because let's be honest, you lose much of the functionality of Android if you don't install the gapps) and still keep the functionality of fundamentals like the app store, Maybe a third party solution, kind of like Preware, would be the way to go about this? That still leaves the issue of fragmentation with different apps being in different app stores, however. Either way, this is the best Android has gotten for me, and I can only hope it gets even better, who knows, maybe somewhere along the way I will learn a thing or two and be able to help get there.

In the future, I do plan to start officially building this for d2tmo. Just got a few things to get straightened out before I do. I have the device trees and everything, just gotta tie up some other ends before I dive into supporting two devices.
That said though, I will need testers as I don't own this particular device, and maybe someone to help d2tmo users trouble shoot problems that crop up specifically for their device.

The only things I've noticed so far are as follows:
Firefox makes Metro PCS think I'm tethering for some reason, except for, ironically, when I have request desktop site checked. Opera works great though. Not to mention, if you make sure to go into the settings and put Opera on Phone mode, the look and feel of it just kind of flows with Lollipop's multitasking cards, just horizontally scrolling and vertically closing.
I heavily dislike Chrome, so I don't use it, and couldn't tell you if it works or not, because I haven't installed it.
The stock browser kind of hung on me one time, but I haven't been able to make it happen again.
The phone shuts off without warning, it seems as soon as the battery goes down to 14%
As far as Pandora, I really haven't installed it, because I have Rhapsody. I may give it a shot and see what happens.
The Firefox issue probably has something to do with the lollipop user agent, as I know that this is how Metro blocks tethering. Still weird that it works fine with the other browsers though. Anyway, due to issues beyond my control, I probably won't be online for about two weeks after today, all my bills came up due at once so my phone bill will have to wait until next payday. The extra days off work the week of Christmas really put a strain on my finances. Sure I'll probably hit a hotspot from time to time, but my phone is my main internet connection at home. Hell, it's faster than cable internet or even any DSL connection I've ever had, so why spend the extra money? I'm really surprised how well MetroPCS works in Denver, even without an LTE phone. The HSPA+ is plenty fast. Before the T-Mobile deal, I had a Metro CDMA phone, in Texas, and it was atrocious.
But yeah, I have WiFi at work so I can keep checking in from time to time when I'm out on a smoke break, plus, I'm definitely keeping an eye out for new developments.

I just got the new build installed, the dark color scheme is awesome. I just left in the check in the installer script for the d2att this time, and added one for d2tmo, maybe it will help anybody who may be testing across multiple devices.
In this one I've noticed the AOSP keyboard is working fine so far.
I will upload it as soon as I get the chance.
If you dirty flash over the previous build, make sure when you install the new build to reinstall the gapps. After its finished wipe the cache and dalvik, otherwise Google Play services will just keep crashing.
After reinstalling gapps, wiping the dalvik and cache, I got one Google play services error, but it hasn't seemed to affect anything.
Everything about this is the same as the build from rogersb11, I just edited the install script so that it installs on d2tmo as well. Just like the earlier build, it will be unsupported. There are bugs, and on an early build, that is to be expected. But so far, I've definitely seen an improvement.
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I747 using XDA Free mobile app
Installed and running pretty smooth. The previous build would randomly advance my clock by 5 hours and would show all incoming calls as from "private". The new build however does none of those things.
So far on the new build, music has crashed once but relaunching it fixed that. I was not sure what nexus camera to get, not to mention their permissions were a bit crazy so I went with Open Camera and it works fine.
Thanks for taking the time to make and port this. The t999 is starting to fall to the way side and I cannot afford a new device so being able to run 5.0 is a blessing.
Working perfectly Thanks to all the devs over at d2att right How come no devs have d2tmo?? Smh.
No SIM
Hey did a clean install and the rom is telling me I have no sim inserted? Anyone else running in to this issue or have a quick fix? I tried editing APN's but it wouldnt save???
Try installing the older build first, and then install gapps, let it run it's first boot, and let everything set up. Then reboot into recovery, and install the later build, reinstall gapps, and wipe cache and Dalvik. Then boot again as normal.
This has resolved a couple of issues for me, although I haven't gotten the insert SIM message with either of these builds. Can't thoroughly test anything until the end of next week though, my phone service is cut off until I can pay my bill on the 15th, and my WiFi reception where I'm at is spotty at best (on all my devices).
Also, I am on MetroPCS, not T-Mobile, I'm just using the T999 on their network.. Which I guess is also the T-Mobile network. Not sure if there are any major differences or not.
The only issue I've had was with su, and after installing SuperSU, a couple reboots, the last one was after changing my DPI to 240, I was able to gain root access.

You may need to update your modem. I don't know about the T-Mobile modems and their availability, but for most using d2att in any LP rom, this has solved that issue.

I just installed it on my t999l. Will report back how it runs. Thanks for the ROM.

Yes I was able to resolve this by updating to the latest baseband/radio. Resolved the problem immediately, I used the latest one available dated march of 2014. Hope this helps.

OK. I encountered one major issue that was a bit scary. Everything was working fine at the first boot (except for the sim card). But, I turned off my phone. I then powered it back on, but it wouldn't boot into Android. It would just get stuck at the initial boot screen and go black. I was able to fix this by removing the battery and restarting it. If anyone experiences this issue, try that.
I tried turning off my phone to boot into recovery, and the same problem happened. I'm going to reinstall the ROM and see if the problem goes away.
Rooted and flashed over to the Cyanogenmod (unofficial) release over in the Dev forum here, but I can't find an apk that will install correctly and the play store says my phone is not compatible. The Marshmallow Visual Voicemail seems to be the only thing I've found in this release that isn't working for me, too.
I'm wondering if anyone can provide an APK from their phone or something? Might just be out of luck until the dev in charge of the Note 4 Cyanogen is back or Verizon releases 6.0.1 for the Note 4. All the APKs (and a flashable zip or two) have been kinda old. Most of them would install but force close if you tried to open them.

There's some promising stuff there. Frustratingly someone claims to have it working on AOSP, like CM, but the link 404s. I'll edit this post if I find something that works in case anyone else looks here. Thank you!
Edit: Nope, none of it seemed to work; it still just FCs when I open it. Oddly, I can't uninstall the app now even after undoing the build.prop changes. Oh well, if it causes problems I can wipe and reflash later.

Hey,
I'm 100% new to doing any sort of custom stuff with my Android devices, so please forgive my dumb questions.
I've known for a while now that my Nexus 7 was vulnerable since it stopped receiving security updates in August 2016, but I wasn't terribly concerned at the time since I use it so casually. With this recent WPA2 news, though, I'm kinda anxious.
Is there any way at all to make my device secure? Google doesn't give a **** so I know there's no chance in hell it gets an official patch, so I assume I have to go with a custom ROM, but I have no idea where to start.
If I went with a custom version, will I still be able to use the apps I own? Will I still be able to use stuff like Chrome and Drive as well? Also, if I'm using a custom ROM, is there actually any guarantee that it is actually secure? How do I ensure it receives security updates in an unofficial setting?
tl;dr version: Just hoping for a way to use my Android device mostly in the same way I already do, but with actual security updates going forward, since Google are a-holes.
Be aware that some apps will refuse to run on a rooted device. You also won't be able to use Google Pay.
You can mitigate the security issue somewhat by using a VPN service; all your communications will be encrypted, so a MITM attack should fail unless they can also decrypt your communications stream.
I use PrivateInternetAccess myself; one of their app's features is the ability to bypass VPN for selected apps, so for example I can run Pokemon Go (which won't run on VPN) and avoid running video streams through VPN (I don't really care if they can see me watching Hill Street Blues on Hulu and I'd rather avoid the performance hit). YMMV and I'd recommend doing your own research, and VPN isn't a magic bullet. But it makes the WPA2 problem less urgent without a lot of work and without having to root your device.
Mind you, I'm saying all this while perusing the forums to discover what custom ROMs are available for my Nexus 7, as I'm considering rooting it.

To address a different part of your question, aside from the "some things won't run rooted" issue I already mentioned, the rest of your apps should run fine. You'll want to install some version of Open GApps to get Google functionality. That's probably covered in the instructions for the custom ROM.
Two favorites are LineageOS, which has a lot of neat features added, and AOSP, which is the bare Google Android experience with neither bells nor whistles.
Keep in mind that if you don't like what you get, you can always change. So if LineageOS isn't for you, you can try AOSP, or something else if you find it. I'm assuming that somebody has the base ROM available; it should even be possible to put the stock ROM back and unroot the device. Know that I'm speaking from inexperience, sorta... I haven't done this with a Nexus yet, but I've done it lots of times with a Galaxy S4. So I'm not really an authority but I figured I could get you started in the right direction, at least. Just remember to back up everything on your device before you start.
Really, really be sure you back up before you start.
I'm having this conundrum as well. I currently use MM on my Nexus 7 2013 due to better idle time and more reliable WiFi. It seems like there is no way to fix this vulnerability without moving to Nougat.
Lineage OS is a good rom to start with. It receives security updates OTA, and it doesn't come with root binaries, so most apps should work.
