Chromecast App Update is reported to include Multiroom function - But how!? - Chromecast Audio

I have excitedly been reading that the very recent update of the chromecast app enables the long awaited Multiroom function but for the life of me I cannot work out how to use it.
Can anyone help?

I have now noticed that in the device settings of one of my 3 Chromecast Audios I now have a new settings called "Group Delay Correction". I assume this will appear on the other as the units themselves are updated......

I'm in the same boat and find it frustrating to read all about it everywhere but can't seem to make it work now that I'm home.

Its really weird, I could not set up the group on my android phone (one plus one), but was able to create a group on my iPad. The feature works well, just could not do initial set up on my phone.

Well, both of my other CCAs updated to 1.17a overnight but I still cannot see an option to create a group...... Gah!

I've managed to set up groups using my wifes Sony Z3 Compact after not being able to on my Lg G3, my Samsung Tab Pro and my daughters HTC One X! I still cannot see the groups on any device other than my wifes phone.
@quinto0827 Are you able to see the groups on all devices now?

Further to the above, I have just uninstalled the chromecast app on my G3, turned the phone off for a bit and when I turned it back on and reinstalled the app all the new groups were there and all the new functions.
Happy.

Does the multiroom feature work well? Can a regular chromecast be added to a cast group?

No only chromecast audio

Pairing the M360 with multiple Android devices

I find it hard to believe I'm the only one who likes my M360 syncing with my tablet when I'm home, and with my smartphone when I'm out. There is actually no official way to pair the M360 with multiple Android devices at the same time, but I have, however, figured out an alternative. I am going to assume that you already have it paired to one device. If not I believe there are other threads out there to help you with that!
Steps:
In the Android Wear official app, tap the watch icon on the translucent black bar atop the screen to disconnect the M360 first
Check to make sure that underneath the name of your device, the status reads "Not connected"
Go to the watch settings, and reset the device, yes unfortunately there is no way around except factory resetting first
Now go through the original instructions upon boot making sure that this time you pair it with your OTHER Android device
Follow the first two steps again after the device has been paired successfully and booted up
Congratulations! The M360 should now pair with the two devices one at a time after being disconnected from one another!
Hope this helped you guys, as this method definitely works for me with my Nexus 7 (flo) and Galaxy SIII (SGH-I747)!
Doesn't work as of now, using a Google Nexus 10 tablet and Sony Xperia Z2 smartphone. Whichever device is paired last works fine. The other device will manage a pairing request just fine after disconnecting the first one, but once that pairing request is approved, it will sit forever on the "Connecting..." status, and never actually connect.
Is this every watch? I use 2 phones every day because my work does not allow camera phones. I think not being to connect to 2 devices at this junction of tech should not be a handicap.
is it possible to install RunKeeper on moto 360 and upload all activity to my profile?

Yes this is an Android Wear limitation, not a Moto 360 one.

I second that opinion. I just learned of this yesterday when I got my Moto 360. I have been using SmartWatch 2 before and figured that Android Wear being so much newer and with more features it would allow me to connect it to multiple devices... well, crap.
Is the situation same even with the new 5.1.1 version of Android Wear? Google *still* doesn't let us connect to multiple devices?
(And iOS doesn't even have the Android Wear app.. you'd think we live 15 years in the past with these stupid limitations...)
No this limitation has not changed.
so do i have to connnect everytime that i leave one device behind within the app? Bc they both wont stay connected its one or the other??

Chromecast freezing Samsung Galaxy tab s

I just installed Chromecast to use with my tablet. The screen freezes after 3 to 30 seconds when viewing youtube and other online videos but seems to play videos installed on my tablet without a problem. I have tried just about everything I can think of to overcome this issue but with no success. I have uninstalled and reinstalled the app many times, and have reset the chromecast many times as well. From my online searches for an answer, I see that I am not the only one having this problem. Has anyone found a solution to this issue?
No issues here, are you casting natively or screen casting?

Thanks for responding. I am screen casting. (Not sure what casting natively is.)

Why are you screen casting when you can cast directly to Chromecast?
Screen casting can tend to be laggy.
I don't know how to cast directly. Lagging is not the problem. After anywhere from 3 to 30 seconds, the screen freezes on the TV and on my tablet and then the tablet reboots automatically and then I have to start over (with no success).

The whole point of chromecast is that it plays streams directly.
You can mitigate your problem by doing this.
Practically any stream, be that Web, local, or server based can be cast to Chromecast natively.
For casting from the Web there are 2 great apps one is Web video caster and another is Vegacast. Both will cast practically anything Web based.
Simply open the page where the web stream/media is then click the More button in stock browser then Share and then Web Video Caster.
Finally select the media you wish to play.
It should then cast.
Or just open Web Video Caster first and then navigate to the Web page required using its in built browser.

Thanks for your help. I was able to get things working by following the directions in another post "How to directly cast from android device in tethering WiFi AP mode" quoted below:
"I directly sent both local media from my device and internet media to chromecast connected to WiFi AP in tethered mode from same device: a thing that was deemed impossible.
Procedure:
1) started WiFi tethering on main device (Galaxy Note 2, N7100, 4.1.2 firmware, N.E.A.K kernel);
2) long pressed chromecast button to reset and start configuration;
3) used a second android device, with chromecast application, to configure the chromecast dongle with main device WiFi cloud;
4) turned off second device;
5) started Bubbleupnp on main device;
6) in devices tab, selected chromecast as renderer and "local media server" as library;
7) then in library tab, chose a video, and believe it or not it started playing on chromecast yabbadabbadoo!
I also successfully casted music files, Google plus photos, dropbox files, and whatnot from Bubbleupnp.
Then I tried another app, mirror4cast, which mirrors the android device screen to chromecast, and you know, this worked perfectly too
Finally, I got arrogant and decided to try YouTube. The official app does not recognize the chromecast dongle in this setup, so instead of using it, I opened my browser (mobile Firefox) and loaded a web page with several embedded YouTube videos. To send them to the chromecast dongle, I used another third party application, Web Video Caster. Full success, in fact I am enjoying a Rolling Stones video while writing this
Now people please experiment and confirm my findings, to exclude I am hallucinating or I got an happily defective unit…"
you didn't mention in your original post you were tethering.
if you are using the Screen Mirroring option on the newer Chromecast 2015 model (the puck), unfortunately it is not supported on the Tab S line.
I found this out after trying to contact support for a week to get a straight answer. They finally told me its a beta feature and will not work with all devices. When asked if they will be updating the supported device list they told me they had no plans to do so.
So basically, if the mirror feature works, it works. If it don't work correctly with your device, you are sol until they decide to add more supported devices when they feel like it. Don't hold your breath though.
Some of the poorest customer service for a new device if you ask me. I still like it for streaming YouTube, Vudu, Google Play movies and the like.

I guess that would have helped. (I had to look up a definition of tethering.) Anyway, all's well that end well. I was able to get it to do what I want it to do. I was ready to take the Chromecast back to the store before I started asking questions on this forum. Just about every new piece of technology that is acquired requires a lot of information that most of us don't have.
Thanks again

I only wasted about 4 hours trying to figure out why it wasn't working. If I had known what you know, it would have saved a lot of time. It seemed like such a simple solution when we bought it, but nothing is ever simple when it comes to technology.
You can cast the screen using the official chromecast app, works for both chromecast 1 and 2.

on T700 it wont work for me. It gives an error saying this device may not be compatible, then when you try and screen cast it just does nothing.
I have the Puck style one (guess its know as 2015 or 2.0)

It says that on all my devices. I have both and both work fine to cast the screen using the chromecast cast app.
Are you using the latest version?

sorry man it just wont work for me. Just shows a black screen and disconnects itself.
After contacting support they said they have no plans to fix it since its a beta feature and there are too many devices.

Strange how it works on the t805 and not the t700.
Well there's hardly ever a time when you need to actually cast the screen.

yah i find it odd, but it shows that there is clearly a difference in the two that we are missing somehow.
Only thing I would use screen mirroring for is if I wanted to play some games on the big screen that don't have a cast feature already built in.
Screen mirroring works on my galaxy tab s 10.5 (t800) but not for video.
I can cast the screen just fine, but if I start a video on the tablet it will freeze and restart. Sometimes it happens immediately, sometimes it plays for some minutes and then freezes.
It has been like that since I bought the tablet. Many updates, but the issue was never solved. Happens on chromecast 1 and 2.

Native support for WiFi direct sharing

So I wanted to share some files with a friend of mine and I connected our phones through WiFi direct but the share button displayed no WiFi direct option either in solid Explorer or the built in file explorer. Is there a way to use WiFi direct without using apps?
I'm not sure if it works because it's 1:15 am and I don't have another device close to test, but if you enter the WiFi menu and click the 3 dot menu you'll find the Wi-Fi direct pairing UI. Once both devices are paired an option to share via Wi-Fi should appear, I'll confirm later on when I have another device to test it

This is what I tried. But didn't work. I am using viper though so maybe that affects something? Please test and share results. Thanks

You're right, it doesn't work, I tried with my friend's OnePlus 3 and they paired but there was no option to share on any phone. I usually have superbeam installed and some of my friends have too so I didn't bother about the native support.
After some research looks like android provides the protocol but has no native app to share via this method (like the android beam one which appeared in Lollipop if I recall right) in the past I used oem options like S-Beam for Samsung or Smart Share for LG devices but ironically and despite it being an open protocol, they worked fine just between phones of the same manufacturer (s beam or the Wifi Direct option working fine between Samsung devices only and smart share between LG devices) I don't know if that changed so far, I could try with my GF S7 to see if that changed but I don't think it would add to the topic.
Superbeam is like the general solution for me, but requires to be installed on both devices sadly

Haha I would've preferred native support because having the same app is generally too much of a hassle for instant sharing. I wish they would've implemented it in the share functionality on the file explorer but oh well. Really crimps the power of WiFi direct. Thanks a lot for checking though.

Miracast support

I know Google dropped Miracast awhile ago, but I really really need it. Chromecast just isn't cutting it. Via build.prop (additions below), I've been able to see the Miracast device but it won't connect. Occasionally I'll even see my homescreen pop up, but it will immediately disconnect. I remember having this problem with an HTC 10 and it had to do with the wifi setting being in battery saver mode. I'm currently unlocked with Magisk on 8.1.0.
Has anyone been successful in getting Miracast to work??
build.prop modifications:
persist.debug.wfd.enable=1
wlan.wfd.hdcp=disable
persist.sys.wfd.virtual=1
I've not heard anyone getting it to work on the Pixel XL 2. Other than I saw this post in the Nitrogen thread here
Just use All Cast. You will need to pay for it, I think it's like $5, but I've been using it for years. Works great and with Chromecast and pretty much anything that allows DLNA. I cast to two TV's, my Nexus Player, XBOX, etc. using it.

Hi folk, please I need mirror my Pixel 2 XL on TVs for my job. I've Chromecast ultra but it doesn't work with P2XL (it seems some technical issue made by 8.1.0) in the meanwhile I'm waiting for fix by big G do you know if All cast can do this job?

This might sound nuts, but is that Chromecast Ultra using a wired network connection? I have no idea the cause but i've had issues with some devices (a samsung tablet for example) connecting to the Chromecast Ultra when it was plugged into the wired connection, often just insta dropping, but it worked flawless when they both were using wireless. Other devices like a Nexus 6p connected perfectly in both network configurations.
Any idea which custom ROMs support Miracast besides Nitrogen OS Oreo? I really need the screen mirroring ability to a windows 10 laptop.

Troubles using the Sony SmartWatch 2 Host App

Hi guys
So, I've recently picked up my 8 year old Sony SmartWatch 2 and some wristbands for it since mine constantly self destroyed themselves, being the reason i stopped using the watch in 2017 or so.
So, I use a Samsung Galaxy A7 (2018) with android 10 and one ui 2.0 and I installed the Smart connect version 5.7.35.0001 as recommended in one of the posts here I believe and I've sideloaded the Smartwatch 2 host app both found on sony's website (https://www.sony.com/electronics/su...es-xperia-smart-devices/sw2/articles/00241423) and one found on the same post in XDA that i saw for the companion app. The thing is, I can't get the text companion app (the official one) to show up on the watch and on the host app after being sideloaded, neither the gmail, the call manager and anything at all.
I've tried anything from resetting the watch a bunch of times to installing older versions of the host and smart connect app, but i still can't get it to work.
Can anyone help me please? I really like this watch
