Has anyone else had volume weirdness with the update?
In my car specifically I have seen where the volume almost kind of resets to maximum when you reconnect to the bluetooth audio and when you go to adjust it the volume slider skips around and the volume adjustment is more extreme than the slider indicates (like one hash of movement is almost minimum volume to maximum volume) and the audio sounds all blown out.
So far its not doing it with my jambox and it didnt do this ever with the car (BMW) prior to 6.0.1.
Just upgraded to 6.0.1 yesterday, and now I am having this very same "loudness" problem with my Braven 570 speaker at work. Until this is fixed, I will not be able to use it to have some soft background music at work.

Apparently it looks like a known issue. Volumes also apparently work fine with some devices, Not my JBL speakers. There is no followed, set standard for Bluetooth volumes. I just went back to 6.0.0., hope they fix it with next patch, or one of you fine gentlemen can give us some directions to manually fix it in root without braking something.

So i installed 7.0 and i got the options to disable absolute volume but it wont stay checked. Every time i back out its unchecked.
Where is this option? I cannot find it and my phone is resetting bluetooth volume to 50% every time I connect it to my car or headphones after the nougat update. I like to use the cars volume and it is very counter productive to adjust the volume on the phone every time.

Connect your phone to a stereo with a standard 3.5mm audio cable and set media volume to max. Play some music, eject the cable, plug it back in, resume playing music. For some reason the audio volume is automatically lowered. Increasing it back to max works just fine but you do get a notification saying "Loud music may harm your hearing if you listen to it for a long time" while you do that.
I only listen to music in my car using aux 3.5mm. I control volume using the headunit and this "feature" is annoying as heck.
Any way to disable the volume auto-lowering?
thats the way all of them work, also was the same on old galaxy s device. happens on ipad also.
i think the reason is they dont want you blowing your brains out when you plug your headphones in if you forgot to turn down the media volume before you unplugeed them
I've been in HTC world for past 5 years and never had a need for such feature... all I'm trying to figure out is how to disable this on my new sammy
I listen via the 3.5 port in my car and can confirm the original Epic 4G did NOT behave this way. (At least not when running stock--Voodoo drivers did do this by default but you could override them.)
It pisses me off too and the NS4G never did this when I had it. I can live with it but just annoying.
I solved it through tasker. Not elegant, but it works.
true, also a hack... solves one problem but creates another. when i DO use headphones i set volume low and taking 3.5mm out and back in resets volume to max. ouch
i wonder if there is a way in Tasker to simply re-set volume to whatever it was just before 3.5mm was inserted.
Yea, you can do this. Create a variable to hold the volume, update it whenever the media volume is changed. When headphones are plugged it, just set the volume based on the variable. Imo, this wouldn't help much though. If you insist on playing media at max volume through your car, you're still going to blow up your ears when you plug in headphones.
I'd recommend setting the volume offset on your stereo (slack on some radios, I think) to be ideal when the phone is at the reduced volume. This is what I do.

the issue at hand is a bit more complex. consider this scenario:
i'm in a car driving and someone calls me.
i pop out the 3.5mm and answer the call.
once done talking, i pop 3.5mm back in and resume music.
now the volume is NOT what it was since sgs2 lowered it automatically trying to "save" my hearing.
similar story happens when i get out of my car for few minutes and upon coming back in i constantly have to turn the volume back up.
changing the in-car headunit volume is not helping since my cell is not the only device used there. there is built-in radio, built-in cd player, other portable players, etc that i (and others) use. no need to tweak main system just because one of many devices is being an #!$le about media volume.
ugh, still looking for a right solution. i'll go ahead and try to mess with tasker but that will be just patching the problem, not solving it

So I've been having some problems in general with bluetooth performance. A couple of days ago I was trying to sync a wireless bluetooth speaker with my 5X and the 5X couldn't even find the speaker when the speaker was in pairing mode. My tablet and HTC ONE do not have problems finding the speaker. I finally got it pair after multiple attempts. I then launched Amazon music and tried to adjust the volume after audio was playing. I clicked the volume down button all the way to zero and the speaker was still quite loud. Clicking the volume up button didn't really do anything. The audio gets slightly louder, but it's not very discernible unless you're comparing the audio at 10% versus 60-70%. Anyone else having similar problems?

They changed the way volume adjustments work with Bluetooth devices.

For me, I noticed that I just need to control the volume on the device and not try to mess with it on the phone.

Thanks. It looks like this may indeed be a bug though, whether it's with the accessories or Android OS.
, there seems to be a bug in the feature's implementation on some Bluetooth accessories. What users are experiencing is an extremely loud volume, even at the lowest volume setting. With the slider moved all the way down, the volume remains too high, which makes the accessory unusable if you enjoy a more temperate sound. And remember, this is a unified volume setting, so even if you press the headset's Vol- button, nothing changes

When I paired with my speaker the music turned on so loud I nearly crapped my pants. Didn't even realize it was possible for the speaker to go that loud.

Not me. Everything working as designed. BT speaker paired just fine.
I'm having bluetooth issues - from day one and 6.01 doesn't help. My 5x often doesn't play through previously paired devices. It goes through the motions and shows a connection but no sound. I usually have to switch bluetooth off then back on again. Really annoying.
Hmmm, I haven't had a problem with the situation you described. I am currently having an issue over what audio is being pushed over bluetooth. In my car I am listening to some music via bluetooth, and I get a phone call during playback, I swipe right and answer the call, but I answered the call and my music resumes and I can't hear my call. Very odd but a consistent issue since the 6.0.1 update.
Since I accepted OREO onmy Nexus 5x, I also have BT issues both with my car multi-media and my earphones. I tried reboot the nexus and it did not help. I"ll try to repair the device.
Anyway to increase the car Bluetooth volume? Pixel XL is way too soft compare with all my previous phone. Thanks.

This may be a dumb question, but did you try turning up the volume on the phone? I know my phone likes to reset the volume to really low when my car connects sometimes. After I turn the volume back up on the phone it's plenty loud in my car stereo.
Failing that, there's a "Disable absolute Volume" option for Bluetooth audio in developer options you could try.
This happens to me when I have connected to my bluetooth headphones and turned the volume down. When I connect again in the car the volume stays at what the headphones were at and I have to turn the volume up on the phone. After that it sticks until I use my headphones again.

Headsets tend to control the bt volume on the phone. Cars often have their own volume and don't send volume commands to the phone.

I agree, I've found myself turning the car volume up 3-4 more turns than I used to. Not a huge deal, but definitely noticeable.
I've noticed the same thing on my Pixel XL while on bluetooth in my car but I'm also using the new Android Auto app as well.
Yesterday i noticed that while driving home from work i had low volume on my music (Car radio & phone were max volume) but while using Google Play music it went to a commercial (Don't pay for it) and started went very loud. After the commercial was over it went back to low volume?
Does this remind anyone of the TV commercial having loud volume issue to get your attention?

Bluetooth gain/volume has always been an issue for me.
I make a lot of DIY portable bluetooth speakers as a hobby and BT input volume is a huge issue compared vs. analog input.
I finally found a Chinese BT amplifer manufacturer who was willing to mod their amp's BT input with higher gain. This helped considerably.
My old JVC car stereo was awful. I was always having to boost the BT output gain.
My 2015 Kia Optima's Infinity stereo doesn't have the same issue. BT volume is fine.
If you are willing to root and try a mod on your phone, the Viper4Android mod lets you raise Bluetooth gain:

This is not working. Hopefully the update will resolve this.
I just bought this off of amazon and it arrived today. (It's a $25 Soundpeats bluetooth headphone).
After pairing it with my XL, I am greeted with trash sound quality when playing some music on Spotify. The headphone would distort when I'm turning up the volume via my phone. In no way am I blasting the volume (it's at 50% and it's still distorting like crazy). At first I thought it might've been a ViPER issue and turned off all the effects that I had on previously. Still no luck.
Next, I tried lowering the volume via phone and increased the volume of the headphone itself all the way.. And that's when I realized that the volume between the headphone and system were synced up. Whenever I increased the volume via headphone, the system volume would increase as well. Is there a way to keep the headphone volume and system media volume separate? Or is this something built-in with the headphones?
I tried pairing the headphones with my brother's Galaxy S8+, and volume controls for the headphones and system were separate! I turned the headphone volume all the way to max and controlled the volume mainly via the phone. Played a couple of songs off his S8+ using Spotify as well and I was able to achieve way better sound quality and louder volumes without distortion at all.
I figured that this might be software specifically related to the Pixel that's causing this. Anyone happen to have any ideas on what I could possibly do?
I'm trying to adopt to Bluetooth to be ready for the 2 XL, but so far the transition has been nothing but frustration.

See title. Also experiencing audio skipping when connected to my car. I believe it may have to do with connecting/disconnecting to Wi-Fi, as it eventually gets better after awhile.
I have a pair of powerbeats 2 that worked fine when I first got my 5t two weeks ago. Now I have to go to Bluetooth settings to turn them on and can't control any of the buttons like volume and skipping tracks. Seems like none of the controls for the earbuds work. The main concern is how low the audio is. I have to have the volume set to max in order to hear anything.
I did try switching Bluetooth settings from sdc to aptx or whatever. Tried resetting data/cache in bluetooth settings. No luck.
I'm sort of convinced there's some interference with my Fitbit, as I just started using this device recently. I really hope this isn't the case. I've also tested the headphones on other phones and the sound quality is fine.
Any ideas on how to fix this?
