Hello, recently i started using Cyanogenmod 12.1 and i saw that lots of features that special to the LG devices like: smart screen, dual window, knock code and more not in cyanogenmod.
what do you think, should i change to CloudyG3 or stay on cyanogenmod?
Who has better performance? and in CloudyG3 has a built in updater/upgrader like cyanogen has?
please help i dont know what to choose....
CM 12.1 is probably as fast as Cloudy 2.5 but Cloudy stopped developing for the G3 so there won't be any updates in the future. If you want the stock features (knock-code, dual window, LG's far superior camera UI etc.) back you should switch to either Cloudy or another LG stock based ROM.
I actually considered doing that as well but CM 13 is already really stable and a lot faster and smoother than CM 12.1 was, so that probably won't happen anytime soon. Maybe when there is the first Marshmallow ROM of the LG UI available in the next months.

Sadly it's not possible to add the LG camera app to its full extend in an AOSP ROM. You only get the full camera experience when using stock or a stock based ROM. I don't actually know if there is an Xposed Module or something of the like for knock code, sorry. But it COULD be done.
actually if u use a cm based rom not the official cm u will find there are features to add the knock code. i use resurrection remix based of cm but u have extra stuff added to it.

Oh, I didn't even know about this, shame on me. But that sounds like the perfect compromise of stock and aosp.
Do you think that the stock android M will be a good performance? mabey ill restore back to stock
Nobody knows that

Ok, so I got a G3 (UK SIM-free). Comes with KK 4.4.2. I've Rooted, installed recovery (with modem/EFS support and backed up everything) and customised with Xposed modules. New lollipop ROM has been released but I'm not sure I can do the things I need or want to do with Xposed on KK with the Lollipop custom ROMs currently available, like Gravitybox's expanded desktop options to remove dock or DS battery saver's tasty battery life gains..
Trouble is most of the custom ROMs that look good Android Now or Chupa Chups etc. only list Lollipop ROMs now and I can't find the last KK versions of these custom ROMs for download.
So what do I do? Do I stick with my customised 4.4.2? Do I go for a custom Lollipop ROM and risk losing the look and feel I like? Does any one know where a list of the last (most stable?) 4.4.4 KK versions of the good custom ROMs would be?
KK + Xposed for the win. Don't look back.
LP is not impressive enough for me to give up my Xposed. Running 45-50 modules (yes, 45-50) I refuse to give up my Xposed.

There aren't actually any good custom 4.4.x roms for G3. They all were prematurely terminated bc of 5.0 release.
Well, most Xposed modifications aren't doable without it. Try to live without it for a week, see what it's like.

SlimKat is pretty much as good as KK is going to get for these phones. Not supported or updated anymore, but the best all-around ROM for the G3's wanting 4.4.x
Correct me if I'm wrong, but I believe CM 11 is still supported / updated via nightlies (even if fewer and farther between updates now with CM 12 up and running)? Unless things have changed in the past couple of weeks...

It is, but AFAIK there are no official builds for G3, so you'll have to compile it yourself. Plus, the device layer (HAL, etc) is incomplete, so there will be bugs.

Really? How good can the Lollipop ROMs be then? They really are immature.
I really need Xposed, don't like the dock, at all. Use PIE via LMT.

Sorry, I probably should have said I am only considering modified stock custom ROMs. I didn't buy a phone with such a good camera to lose the majority of the function.

I never said that lolipop roms are good, i said that all G3 rom makers forgot about 4.4 and moved on to buggy future. Current 5.0 roms suck, they drain battery twice as fast, they lag, they have inferior memory management, etc...
We have to wait for good stock-based customs. At least until 20L and apktool 2.0 RC4 release. After that, we will have a good base and will be able to decompile and recompile any LG apk, which would allow for some serious mods.
Exposed until L is ironed out. The G3 camera is excellent. Xcam for me.
Don't leave home without it.
Long story short, custom ROM'S never be good as official ESPECIALLY for LG G3, you just need to understand that, for some people it's ok but for some don't. All you need is a root and MAYBE a custom kernel. PEACE.
I found lollipop is faster especially with chrome, yes, I gave up xposed but worth it
Sorry, I have been pretty dumb. So LG went from 4.4.2 to 5.0 with the G3 and there are no customised stock 4.4.4 ROMs? That being the case, I might as well stay on 4.4.2, get to debloating and sort out the annoying boot animation and sound.
Any prefered/recommended method for debloating? Anything else I should look into doing to my stock 4.4.2 ROM?
Hello friends,
I am quite new to this forum also new to rooting and using custom ROMs on my G3.
I have my G3 for about 8 months now and have already upgraded to android 5.0 (OTA). I want to customize my G3 as much as I can !!!
I have installed G3 Tweaksbox but its not working, it is giving me an error message "Xposed Framework is missing". I have read on some threads that Xposed has not been finalized yet for Lollipop and it is not advisable to install it. So I cannot go through G3 Tweaksbox for customizing my G3.
The second option was to install a custom ROM. For this, I have already rooted my G3 and already backed up my data. I was about to install BlissPop V3.5 when I came across a thread saying if I install a customize ROM, I will lose some cool features of my G3...like knock code, auto-focus and other specific features of LG.
I know you guys are expert in these things and therefore wanted your help on how to be able to fully customize my G3 without losing those cool features?
Your help will be much appreciated. Thanks in advance.
Regards,
Roy
There are two types of options in custom ROMs: Stock-based and AOSP/CM based.
Customizability:
Hands-down, AOSP wins the customizability contest. Many of the features you would need to use Xposed for in stock-based are already baked into AOSP.
Camera:
Stock-based lets you use the stock camera, the software and drivers for which are proprietary; it's might quick and accurate, even if it does not allow manual adjustments.
The default AOSP camera is okay. Many of us opt to replace it with a port from another device. The Motorola cam is nice and the M9 cam is fantastic (I'm working on a few tweaks to make it work better with the G3). Point is: the choice is yours.
Knock-on/off:
The knock-on code is an LG feature, so stock-based ROMs only.
Some AOSP ROMs allow you to knock on and knock off, but no pattern detection is incorporated with it.
QRemote:
This has been ported to AOSP and works great. The only thing that isn't there is having it in the pull-down menu.
So, it's a trade-off. There is no perfect ROM, unless you find something that is perfect for you. For me, although I sometimes miss the LG camera, the features and tweaking ability of a good AOSP ROM are a clear win. My suggestion is dump stock altogether, install a cleaned up stock-based ROM and play with it for a while. Then make a backup, wipe and install a good AOSP ROM like CyanideL or BlissPop to get a feel for that. Then stick with what you prefer. Heck, I've restored my Jasmine ROM just for the camera on one occasion!
Thanks epidenimus
Hi epidenimus thanks a lot. I think I will go with a stock based ROM that can still contain the g3 features . Another nice feature is the quick circle case all which I assume will still be there in the stock.
Can you suggest me which custom ROM to go for and where to get it?
Thanks again

I do not use quick circle cases, prefer something that can really protect the device. However, I can tell you that CyanideL (AOSP/CM) does have settings for it baked it, so it may well work in some of the AOSPs.

Would need to know your variant (e.g. LS990, VS985, D851...) in order to point you in the right direction. You may start by looking in the more specific thread for that device, if there is one. Generally, the stock-based ROMs are specific to a variant; AOSP sees more porting to different variants and devices.
Thanks again.....I am using LG D855....international and unlocked
Hello,
Its a long time ago that i rooted and put a custom rom on a android phone
Now i have a question.
What is the best custom clean Google experience rom, with a good battery life?
Greetzzz
What is your device that you are looking a ROM for?
The lg g3 d855 with the 3gb ram version.
The most i want vanilla Google
If you want a vanilla google experience then I would recommend Cyanogenmod or Mokee. These are probably as cm/aosp (I am pretty sure Mokee is cm based but don't take my word for it) based as you can get. You could also flash Paranoid Android 5.1.1 but the devs unfortunately have gone to work on oxygen OS.
If you want an aosp based rom with tweaks (Layers support): At the moment I would probably recommend XenonHD (in my opinion one of the smoothest roms and good battery life (for me anyway)). If you want nova launcher pre-installed I would recommend BrokenOS.
If you want a cm based rom (with tweaks) (CMTE support): Well I am running RR (Resurrection Remix) at the moment and I am loving it. I'm not sure if I am allowed, but if you want nova launcher pre-installed then I would recommend cyanide L.
I am assuming you know who cyanogenmod are. If not, I don't want to say anything that will get me flamed to oblivion by the community but they essentially make roms extremely close to google aosp.
Haha yes i know what cyanogenmod is
4 years ago i built my own custom rom but since then i stopped with developing anything for Android (bussy at my college).
Only functions i dont wanna lose is laser focus, 4k filming, knock on, and quick circle because i have a quick cover.
Then, the only possible rom that I think that you can flash without losing laser focus, 4k filming, knock on, and quick circle is novastock aosp styled. If you want quick circle you can install the quick circle theme app. I am pretty sure that you can flash a custom camera for 4k filming.
You will lose knock on. And for laser focus you will lose if you flash anything other than stock (I am pretty sure).
If you want a vanilla google experience you should flash one of the ROMs I suggested. But if you want to keep all those features the closest ROM that I can recommend is novastock 1.1 aosp styled.
Ah okay, thats the problem for me to put a custom rom on my phone, because i wanna use these functions.
Then your best bet would be novastock 1.1 aosp. It has all the functions and the devs try to make it as close to aosp as possible

And cloudyg3?
Cloudyg3 is a stock based ROM but will look like LG and feel like stock. With novastock it's themed to look like aosp. Also, cloudy has been stopped being developed

Ah okay yeah i dont want a stock rom with a themed aosp over it, i rather then have the stock rom.
Haha i just will start first rooting my phone and then look futher tnx for your help!
No problem

Now keep in mind with stock or in my case cloudy i use exposed modules and it is almost completly themeable i download keyboard themes from lg smartword but i love it all the themeing i need on mine is done througb exposed
So im done with stock kitkat lg g3 rom, i refused to update to official lollipop.
So ive been using stock rom for almost a year, and its getting really slow as time goes by, as expected. So i decided im gonna try a fresh new rom to flash.
Which one of you prefer, so fsr ive heard the best is
1. Cloudy
2. Fulmics
Which one is better to flash?
Im not gonna buy a new phone anytime soon cause i think lg g3 is still a beast with good specs even for 2016.
So which one should i flash and why?
Pls list advantage or disadvantage of each rom you prefer me to flash that would be great!
I say CloudyG3 (because of LG G4 UX) with Xceed kernel
Fulmics has more features, but personally I don't like old G3 UX as much as newer G4 UX
My advice: Try both and make your own decision

Totally agree, I had both and stayed with Cloudy because of G4 UX and apps.
Tried CM12.1, Cloudy 2.5 and Fulmics.
They are all really great with their own pros/cons. For me at least, the biggest let down for CM12.1 was camera functionality. CM just did not play nice at all.
Fulmics was nice, but the G4 theme port from Cloudy is money. Been on it for the past several days and usually feel the need to swap ROMs. Not with this one. Its a nice bump from stock G3 (d850).

Whats the advantage on using xceed kernel on cloudy?
Better battery life and performance?
Or i should just be fine with stock kernel with cloudy?
So i guess cloudy is the winner here. I like the g4 ux too.
But i heard some has gps problems on cloudy. If i do encounter it after i flashed cloudy, is there a way to fix it?
There is a rom called NovaStock 5.5 its awesome give a try to it, awesom battery life, no lag you will not be disappoint from it at all. But its not on xda. If anyone wants link PM me.

It is smoother and has more features than default Cloudy kernel. Can't say much about battery life, but it could be better too.
P.S. Install Synapse to control most of kernel setting.

Nougat-based development is still in its early stages. While the G3 device tree is already rather stable, there are still lots of issues with apps.

As far as I know, there's no cleanrom for G3. Best shot will likely be CM14.1 these days. At least, they've got a pretty good device maintainer and everyone else is borrowing the device tree from there.
so you recommended me to wait a couple of days, weeks ?

If you are unhappy with your current ROM, you may as well give it a try. At least, nougat on G3 is fast, and the remaining bugs are not bad enough to make it unusable.
If you need something completely stable, you will likely have to wait a few more months.
what about situation now? any news? stable roms 7.1?
Can anyone point me to some stock based active/5.1 ROMs? On cloudy2.5 right now, would like to try some others. Haven't had the phone long enough to ditch stock yet; tried PAC ROM and didn't get wifi, and am leery about losing camera quality. And i'm coming from touchwiz bloatware, so the lg bloatware seems mild in comparison.
