I haven't seen anything posted about this yet, but 4.3 is finally scheduled for the s3, at least in france. Hopefully by january we'll see a 4.3 rom released. I know you can get 4.3 now using AOKP or cyanogen but I actually like touchwiz so I'm looking forward to getting this.

It says the S4 will be updated to 4.3 in October, while the S3 and N2 will be updated in either November or December, if that's true, our S3 won't see 4.3 until March or April...possibly May 2014.

I will not believe it until I see it. I have seen many places talking about dates, that day, maybe , maybe not posted about went or went not. I think like all thing in this arena we will have to wait for someone to port it went it does finally come out . And just the fact that developers move on to other devices S4 and others it may never happen for s3. I have refuse to keep upgrading my phone and dumping so much cash for a new phone just for the newest android version. I will run my S3 until it DIES. Unless ?
Hey any in-depended rich person out there wanting to donate an S4 to me? lol :good:
I see Android 4.4 was announced we had expected the Android 5.0 release date to be some time in October 2013. We now expect to see Android 4.4 KitKat launch during that month. In the face of that point release, we think it's now likely that we'll see Android 5.0 shown in mid-2014. It a lot of babble but On 13 June 2013, VR-Zone also claimed that Android 5.0 will be optimized to run on devices with as little as 512MB of RAM.. We will see . I have doubts we will see ...

If it's released in November I would expect to see it get through T-Mobile and be released to us by January, maybe February. I don't know why everyone always insists that it takes a half a year for ours to get updated, when all the updates we received from 4.0.4 - 4.1.2 happened within a few months of each other. Often in only 2 months.
I'd imagine that Samsung is going to push to get everything updated before or at least right after Christmas. The main reason we are skipping to 4.3 is for compatibility with future devices such as their smartwatch. They'll sell a lot more for Christmas if they are already compatible with the S3!

And you are probably wise not to. As the device gets older, it will take longer to get any updates. If I am right about the timeframe for this one, it'll likely be the last timely update we see.
If I'm wrong and we have to wait a year, then so be it. I don't plan to let it reduce my enjoyment of the device if that is true. Never understood why people get so worked up over an update! If they're not happy with it, there's always other options available.
My only real issue is with people claiming we are always last, or it always takes 6-9 months for an update, and then feeling like that gives them reason to complain about poor customer service. Personally, I'm fine with it if it does take a year. In the end, anything and everything you see written about it, including my last post, is pure speculation, nothing more. I keep getting asked about what I expect to see though, and while I don't usually like to predict anything, I figured I'd go ahead and post my thoughts on it. If I'm wrong, so be it, I'll just continue on through life with my poor outdated formerly "smart"phone! But I'll still be happy with it!

That's the thing, I'm not complaining, I just replied with a time frame when we would get the update, no need to get upset and go on a rant. I cant even remember the last time ive actually touchwiz on my s3 for more than a few minutes, I could actually care less when the S3 is updated. I'm happy as long as there's support for cm/aosp/aospa/aokp and hopefully Ubuntu touch in the near future, but I think we have a better chance of T-Mobile updating our poor outdated "smart" phone than getting a fully working port of Ubuntu touch.

I thought of making a new thread but figured it made more sense to post here, question for anybody using one of the currently 4.3 roms. What are the common problems and issues with any of the existing 4.3's? Is there a 4.3 that is good enough to use as a daily driver? I haven't tried any myself yet mainly because I have tread enough yet to make an informed choice.

The 4.3 ROMs in the development sections are custom ROMs (cm, aosp, aospa, aokp...etc). This thread is covering the 4.3 update from Samsung which we do not have.
What may be a daily driver to others may not be a daily driver for you. Go through the 4.3 custom ROM threads and read a few pages to get an idea of what issues may or may not be present and flash the one that suits your needs.
If you don't want to flash a custom ROM, then your only option is to flash the 4.1.2 touchwiz ROMs available until T-Mobile releases the 4.3 update.

I would consider those to be in beta, sometimes alpha stages. If for no other reason than they sometimes have problems reading the nv data. Doesn't happen to everyone, but it happens enough. After flashing, baseband, serial number and imei (maybe more) all read unknown or zero. You have to either reboot several times or flash another Rom, to fix.
The nv data isn't lost, as is sometimes the case with the IMEI. As I understand it, the Rom just isn't reading it.

Mainly, whats the root/unlocking process like with LG phones? Is it as locked down as the new Samsung phones. I have a S3 now and looking to upgrade soon. Liking the G3 but ive never had a LG phone. Do you think the process will be similar to the G2?

Not to hijack your thread if you consider it off topic but I wonder whether the bootloader will be easier to unlock on the G3. I did some vague research on the G2 and it seems you need to be on a specific version to install custom recoveries and/or use loki patch. If I'm wrong, please correct me.

thats true ! if you update your G2 with official KK OTA for example you will never be able to use loki ! so no more Custom recovery and root
and, it took the LG FLEX about 6 months for us just to get root, and that was while still on 4.2 JB..
I dont know how the G3 will be, but the FLEX is horrible for anything related to development..

Hope your right, but only time will tell...
I am skeptical. I have the G2, and it took a while to achieve root with Kit Kat, and that was achieved by downgrading the bootloader to a previous version (the Jellybean one, which was loki-susceptible) and modifying the kernel to work with it (G2 devs are awesome). Being that the G3 will be released with Kit Kat and never having a previous loki susceptible bootloader, it might be extremely difficult to achieve root. We'll have to see...

Unfortunately, I've never witnessed a developer edition helping with an exploit of a retail version. Well, at least that is the case of Verizon's devices. In fact, seeing photos of a dev edition is kinda discouraging as it suggests that the retail will be most definitely locked down. Maybe it won't be as bad as the Galaxy S5 though (Verizon). Even though I have been exclusivity Samsung for a long time, their Nazi security has forced me to find another brand. Hopefully LG will not try to copy then in that aspect.

All of these companies want corporate business, NOT consumer business; they have to convince corporations that their software/hardware is very secure and un crackable, so thats why they all lock down everything they can, and don't want people rooting/modding/bypassing their security schemes, so dont look for this to change anytime soon, as far as the "big 4" cell phone mfgs are concerned..
My 2 cents, if you value root, do NOT get this phone until it is verified to have an unlocked bootloader on your carrier's version. Do not count on an exploit being found, ever. There are many many sad people in the AT&T and Verizon S5 and Note 3 forums. It has been more than 4 months without root and a huge bounty of around $20k for root. If you normally keep phones for about a year like me that's almost half the life of the phone being locked down. No ad blocking, no titanium backup, no special security apps, and features that have been disabled by the carrier can't be enabled.

Yeah that's not going to help... you can't just switch bootloaders, if you could do that then it would already be unlocked.

Hey all. I am looking to upgrade to the Note 4. I have used my Note 3 T- mobile version on AT&T for the past year which had an unlocked bootloader so it got root and custom recovery almost right away. Did it really take 6 months to just get root on the ATT version of the Note 3? And if so, what are the chances it will take that long again?

No one will work on it. Even with a bounty no one really seemed to care about getting root on the N3, we all just gave up hope when suddenly GeoHot swooped in with towelroot totally surprising everyone, but this was months later. There are still no custom ROMs and with safestrap development going away it just seems there is little incentive to root, especially when it's possible we may get the L upgrade in the spring.
But we won't know until the phones are released. Maybe there is a simple exploit and we get lucky, maybe not and we wait months or forever and it never gets rooted.
Oh wow. I didn't realize the ATT version didn't get root till towelroot. Man, that was forever. I am debating getting the Note 4 on T mobile, but to get it right away may be a pain, plus I don't think I will be able to get the 200$ off from Samsung if I go that route. I kinda want to just buy the phone outright and 200$ off is pretty nice.
Maybe I will just go with the ATT version and see how it goes and if development sucks and I really want to root or run custom ROMS I could always sell it in the future and get a T mobile one later....

I believe it did have Root when it was first released. But the update to KK fixed that root exploit, that's when we waited 5 or so months before towelroot came out. So the smart guys didn't update to KK, of course I was one of the stupid ones who did upgrade and I remember painfully waiting for root. Most of us had given up and assumed it would never happen, then literally one day GeoHot released towelroot with no warning at all.
I had the Tmobile one preordered, but I am pretty sure I'm going to cancel it and go with the ATT one. I'm reading here and there of reception and LTE issues with the Tmobile one on the Note 3 and really don't want to deal with that as my phone actually working is much more important than being rooted. I'll miss root greatly, but if I want to stay with ATT I guess that's the price I pay. And maybe we get lucky and a root pops up. Otherwise the only things I'm missing are titanium, and xposed which I mainly use for the multi windows module. I don't bother flashing custom ROM's so don't really care about that.
It did have root at launch and even with the first update. However for those who took the KK update, they were stuck until towelroot.

Ok, that makes more sense. That is kinda what I remember now. Had forgotten all that and didn't pay too much attention cause I had the T mobile version. That was with that Root De La Vega or whatever.
Yeah, I am pretty sure I am gonna go with AT&T version at least at first. I can do it through Best Buy that way and get the 200$ instant credit with turning in a phone. Then on top of that hopefully sell my Note 3 and come out pretty good. At least that is the current idea. Will see for sure. At least now I know I don't want the iPhone 6+ after seeing the Note 4 in person.
As to reception issues, yeah, I don't think my Note 3 T mobile version ever got quit as good a signal or data speeds as the ATT note 3 does on AT&T network, which makes sense really. You don't have the ATT modem installed.
I initially had the Note 3 ATT phone too, and then the t mobile one which I got off ebay. I had both at the same time and did do some initial testing. The db signal was close, but not quite as good as the ATT version one was. That I do recall for sure. Not that the t mobile one was horrible, but just not as good. I am not sure about the data speeds however. I guess if you really want to be sure the phone is working the best it can, then better to use the one designed for the network you will use it on.
Sent from my SM-N900T using Tapatalk
The way I figure it is the Tmobile version is almost always cheaper on swappa/ebay. So if I really get sick of the locked bootloader, and also read reports on XDA that there are no reception issues I can always sell my ATT Note 4 and pick up a Tmobile one. Samsung phones seem to drop a bit in value at that 2-3 month mark, that plus the $200 rebate will mean I will prob make money off such a trade. That's the worst case scenario, realistically I'll probably just adjust to no root and keep the ATT one.
According to this source, LG has not released any good info on if or when we will see the update, unlike many other manufacturers have stated.
http://m.techradar.com/news/phone-a...l-5-0-release-date-when-can-i-get-it--1257804
Yeah I saw that as well this was my first LG may be my last if this is true
Who cares until its a week plus since the other manufacturers release L? The other guys may have a approximate date but that means nothing (the past proves this statement). For all we know lg will be the first non nexus device to get it pushed out.
Good news? http://www.geeky-gadgets.com/lg-g3-android-lollipop-update-may-land-by-end-of-2014-24-10-2014/
Even once it's released. How many will actually update before a root method is out there for it. lol
Do you think T-Mobile might lock the device down when it releases this update? If they don't, does that make it easier to root? I am just one of those impatient always want the new shiny thing guys

Man I'm in the same boat. Using n5 and debating selling the g3. Good hardware laggy software. I'd keep it and use aosp if I knew it wasn't still a month or two away from working camera and BT. AND I DON'T KNOW THAT lol just missed aosp.
I dont understand why people say the g3 is laggy. There's been post after post on how to get rid of any lag. Turn ART on. Reduce the scale of the animations. Blah blah blah. Read the forums. The phone might not be fast out of the box, but there's simple ways to make it faster. These devs will get the Roms done as long as everyone would search their forums instead of asking the same questions over and over again. Everyone is jumping ship because they don't have the ROM they want. Just be a little more patient. If you wanted a phone that's more on the cutting edge you should have bought or stayed with you nexus phone.
Really tho, with LGs last update, all that lag is literally gone.
Looks like we are supposed to get android lollipop by the end of the year! That's less than 2 months from the release! http://m.gsmarena.com/newscomm-10031.php

Looks like we are one step closer to marshmallow. The T-Mobile website now shows the phone in T-Mobile testing phase.
Update: Download some marshmallows now.
Taking them way too long. Verizon already is pushing out Marshmallow for the Note. They are usually the last carrier. I'm disappointed with development from this phone.
you sure about that? to me it still shows that it is under manufacturer development
Maybe we'll see it in April
Telus may rollout Marshmallow at March 30th for s6 edge. what about t-mobile
I believe tmobile has always been the slowest in releasing updates. ..don't be surprised either April or May timeframe
I couldn't help it. I used JUMP to get the S7 Edge. In Reality it's exactly what I wanted the S6 Edge to be. I really have zero complaints about the S6 Edge. I'll miss seeing how it handles marshmallow. I think it'll fit it well.

It is kind of hilarious we are now reading Android N developer preview stuff, seeing lowly Sprint rolling out updates to M and we are reading that it's still in a development phase as far as TMobile goes. I not one that thinks M is going to be that great we absolutely need to have it Android. I'm more disappointed I have been a long time Tmobile customer, and going from my first Android, my beloved Nexus One that was put at by Google at the time, to switching over to Samsung and basically being the good little follower/updater of every TOL device they put out prior to my current S6Edge which I obtained on the first day of availability last April 2015 and my wifes Note5 I recently updated her to from her Note 3. TMobile used to be known as the leader of the pack supporting their USA customer base.
Lastly, in the past up thru the latest 5.1.1 updates, it was really easy to flash an International version, use a Kerenel that played happy with TMobile hardware, and occasionally requiring an additional flash of a file to fix call audio issues and we all were golden. I'm guessing that once a TMobile supported Android M Bootloader is available, we can then happily start flashing away the many International Android M ROMs already being posted on those Galaxy S6 and Galaxy S6 Edge sites.
I could be wrong on that, but I really thing once we have a bootloader posted we can all go back to complaining about this or that specific ROM issues, instead of pounding the web sites for Tmobile to get it's act in gear. Really....Sprint ahead of Tmobile....scratching my head
Sprint rolls out their updates first when business is mediocre.
Still waiting for M. This is why I dont buy Tmo S7.
Im start hate samsung, so many versions for the same cellphone or watch, I never want say this but with iphone dont happen thinks like that..
Well, finally it's showing on T-Mobile's page that it is in testing phase.

I know what you mean fabioplata, that's why I went to nexus 6p. Let me tell you that the grass is most definitely greener on this side.
And yes Alex9090 seems like I made a mistake when I started this thread, maybe my excitement got to me. But its in T-Mobile Testing phase now.
KingP1n I don't see Samsung changing their ways anytime soon. They are trying to use touchwiz in a way to make money from it. But the end result is always the same it takes too many resources away from the base OS and the whole experience feels like riding on the short bus.
This is my last Sammie phone anyway... I've been pretty disappointed in it and should have waited to buy it - always out to be the early adopter.. i need to knock that crap off..
Having to wait for hell to freeze over before getting the update just hammers it all home...
The worst part is that this will most likely be the last update this phone will get.
Imagine next year we will be where S5 owners are now last to get if ever get Android N
