Hi all, couple of months ago, I flashed ezKAT beta into my AT&T note ii which is now under tmobile network. I notice tmobile is slower than AT&T and not as good as coverage but lot of times, the data connection is really bad/slow and prone to drop interrupt.
Even sometimes calls will drop and wil not take place.
I was wondering if there is due to modem? Is there a separate modem module available? Anything can be improved in this regard?
Here is the information:
4.4.2
BB ver: I317UCUBMK6
KERNEL: 3.0.31-1398348
BUILD NO: EZKAT BETA
Thanks.,
T-Mobile is crap. Just get used to it if you choose to stay with them. They suck even at their best they are less than 1/3 the speed and connection of att. I know this because I used to be on T-Mobile.
Also check your modem. Make sure it's the newest. That will help a little.

yes the connection seems to stuck though. I used to have ATT which is pretty good but they got long lines whenever i need to have service issues. I am sick of them. Any alternatives?
i also restored the stock rom. i always had issues with the custom rom, there is always something breaking does not work and issue here and there so it is a combination of bad rom and bad service. I know the custom rom naturally not to be stable as said in disclaimer but i hoped it will workout. Latest deal breaker was I got this bluetooth selfie and tried to connect to note 2 running ezkat and it failed. I flashed stock rom and it worked right away. May be it is for some people who can take it in but not me. I will probably never use custom rom again.
T-Mobile varies in each region. Sure, its coverage is not as widespread as Verizon or AT&T. There are many dead regions in my state. But, in my immediate area and especially home and work, the data speeds were just fine. I also used an AT&T unlocked Note 2 and the custom ROMs worked great. My son now uses my Note 2 as a minitablet and eZKaat works fine

So I've read thru many threads on here and found people that seemed to have flashed their tmobile ROM onto their AT&T device in order to get proper 3G+ speeds.
1) Does this actually work?
2) Is it better to flash the other way (if possible, AT&T rom onto Tmobile) in order to get maximum service from both phones? What is the best/better phone to purchase for future LTE future proofing?

I am also on the t-mobile Q&A section looking for answers... the best phone for future proof and LTE is the AT&T version... no doubt... now... I am waiting for an AT&T Stock Rooted WITH MODEM included in the same flash zip before I begin testing myself... I already ordered from ebay a dual sim card adapter for the Note 2, and the Note 2 is already unlocked... so... any news on this would be great...
I just flashed Tmobile Jedi X3 with my att note 2...all working perfectly....the steps I took was just to flash rom and one of our att kernels and youll be fine...didnt have to flash modem....just put my straight talk apn in done....Everything perfect...btw jedi X3 is super fast....:good::highfive:

Sounds like you might be in the same boat as me. Anxious to get a Note II but not sure which network to commit to with it. Your comment about needing to get a TMo ROM to get "proper 3G+ speeds" is disconcerting. It also pushes me a bit towards TMo since it's got the LTE radio promised for future update.
What exactly is wrong with the stock device's 3G+ speeds on AT&T?
Where I live and work (Los Angeles area - San Fernando & Santa Clarita valleys), LTE's not activated, and no firm date when it will come our way. AT&T's HSPA data speeds here aren't anything to write home about, but neither are TMo's when I tested one of their devices in the local shop. My AT&T phone is lucky to get 4Mb/s down, 0.2Mb/s up, and generally only about 2-3Mb/s down. The TMo Galaxy SIII I tested got 4MB/s down. Hard numbers to swallow when I've got an SIII on VZW LTE pulling down 20Mb/s in the same area.

I need clarification on this. Just because the ROM flashed worked, doesn't necessarily mean the proper AWS radio's were activated to attain 4G speeds that are required on T-mobile (this is nothing to do with LTE).
Are you saying that by flashing the tmobile ROM onto your at&t note 2, you are able to attain all connections (not just Edge, but HSPA+ 4G) with your AT&T device to tmobile using AWS? I know Tmobile has begun refarming out to 4G on a different band that is compatible with more handsets, so you might just be in an area where they have already done so, which mistakes you into believing that you are actually connecting via the old school AWS Tmobile bands, when you aren't.
I really need to decide which phone I want to take the risk on - The tmobile LTE is locked apparently, doesn't seem to show as many capable bands as the AT&T version, and also, I'm not sure what to bank on in terms of there being a software vs hardware lock (Would be nice if the tmobile can be unlocked via software to fully operate on all LTE modes that the AT&T supports).
I'm actually in Canada, and would probably end up needing to purchase the Wind version in order to get what I'm looking for (since Wind operates on the same AWS frequencies as tmobile). But losing out on Bell/Rogers/Telus LTE in the process is just something I don't want to do either.
Going to have to see what can be unlocked via software on all these different phones................
I would also appreciate a response from someone if this is possible... using T-Mobile ROM and modem to work on At&t (with aws frequencies).... just like the S2 I717 mod which after flashing was working with aws frequencies....

Yes... it should... as soon as I get my dual sim card adapter for the Note 2... I will post a million results/combinations here on T-Mobile and AT&T forums... I just don't want to open the back cover 30 times a day and swap sims a bunch of times... with the adapter I just insert the 2 sim cards and done... testing all the way from that point on...

I have the SAMSUNG-SGH-I317 from AT&T, unlocked via unlock code from AT&T. No root, stock AT&T android 4.1.1. I got the t-mobile microSIM card with an unlimited talk and 2GB unlimited data plan, but I can not get tmobile 3G/4G working reliably. I get HSDPA/HSPAP/UMTS/EDGE randomly. 80% EDGE, 20% high speed between 4-8mbps down, 0.7-1.9mbps up. I am in Los Angeles, CA.
I know my SGH-I317 does not have the 1700MHz antenna needed for t-mobile 3G/4G data, but somehow I get 3G/4G 20% of the time. I have not adjusted any special settings on my phone, other than to reset the APN to default epc .tmobile .com. My guess I am getting 3G/4G via the 2100MHz antenna for download, but without the 1700MHz for fast upload, I get 0.7-1.9mbps only. But most of the time I am stuck at EDGE.
So has anyone gotten the AT&T Note II to reliably work on t-mobile 3G/4G? is there a special setting I need to enter on my phone? does flashing the t-mobile ROM on the AT&T phone solve any of the 3G/4G issue? or will I lose the unlock on my phone when I root or when I flash t-mobile ROM on my AT&T Note 2?
Any help greatly appreciated.

Hey I got a unlocked & Rooted At&t Note 2 on T-mobile running CleanRom with perfect 4g. Before I rooted my phone I changed my phones modem to T-mobiles because I only had edge. After that I have flashed several different At&t Roms and still have 4g. On speed test I get about 7-9mbs download and 2-3 mbs on upload not the best but way better than edge

I am actually using the CleanROM 4.5 (haven't flashed 4.6.1 as I do not see much new on that ROM). I am actually using it on the stock kernel because I am not a huge flasher like many of the members here. Since Note 2 is my daily driver, I don't want to keep updating it and customize it after each ROM flashing. I like the CleanROM 4.5 since it was the way I got it and I just updated to the new version. The battery life is pretty good as I can last a day or more with moderate use.

Yea im the same way. You have an At&t note 2 too?
yep using ATT Note 2 on TMo's network.
Just like the headers says,
I unlocked my tmobile phone a few days ago, I had to downgrade from 4.1.2 to 4.1.1 in order to do so. Problem is that although it shows att on my lock screen, when i try to upgrade back to 4.1.2 it tries to go to tmobile's servers instead of going to att and upgrading to their software. I also get an invalid sim error when i turn on wifi calling and i have no 4GLTE....just 4G. I setup and saved a couple of APN's but it still tries to upgrade from tmobile. Texting and MMS work good and i have tried all of the standard settings on the phone with no luck as well. Am i correct in guessing that it is not the hardware but instead is the software trying to phone back to tmobile. I want a simple factory image from att,BUT my phone is an 889 and i am not sure what image to flash to it. It is also at the moment rooted but if it unroots after the flash i will just re-root it afterwards.
What i am hoping for is that if i get att's software on it ,it will upgrade from att.
Thanks.
Sounds of your trying to upgrade from the phone it self. don't
Dude just flash a stock Rom, clean Rom is what most use. You'll find it in the development section. That way you don't have all the bloat that AT&T adds in the firmware.. JUST make sure it has no modem, cuz that you don't want to do!!.
You don't want to flash a AT&T modem on a T-Mobile GN2. Would just give you boot loops..
Your IN the same boat my buddy was in. He has the same phone you do. So I flashed a AT&T custom Rom on his phone after the unlock process. Then after a few days told him to upgrade back to the newest modem from TMO.
As a side note I changed his model in his build prop to a I317. Just too c what would happen. But lo and behold I had his phone next to mine the other day. LTE area, checked mine and his we're both on AT&T LTE network. LTE 14
Oh yeah let me state that I did no AWS bands unlocking thing. Was just kinda amazed that he was getting LTE from att, on a TMO GN2.

Hello all,
I have an international version Note II (GT-N7100). I am on T-Mobile in an area where most of the towers now use the 1900mHz band. I'm wandering if I can flash a T-Mobile branded ROM to get the use of Wifi Calling, which I've cherished the ability to have (sometimes with hacked apks and libs), on previous phones. Would flashing one of these ROMs work well with my version of the phone? Or if even better, is there a package I can get like THIS that will push the wifi calling to my phone?
If it is workable for me to flash one of these ROMs, should I be flashing a radio as well? Or any other tips to make this conversion work out?
Do not flash an LTE Note 2 modem on the non-LTE version, they have different hardware. I know there were some porting guides to modify ROMs to go from one to the other, so this won't be a straight-forward flash.
You should be able to flash t-mobile roms and get the Wi-Fi calling feature.
I am using it on my AT & T note 2 and Wi-Fi calling is working flawlessly.
Try Tweaked ROM from T mobile note 2 section and make sure you keep your existing RADIO/Modem.

Thank you both for the replies. I will try to get one working. Had some issues for a couple days recovering from trying Android 4.3... lol I like to experiment.
Curious as well
I bought this international version as well I live in the states and have been using it with att but now I'm about to switch to tmobile. I have rooted the phone but I am curious if I can flash it with a stock tmobile version of firmware (where ever that is) and use it with our services here. I understand Ill need to reset the counter and all that crap too. I have experience with rooting and installing CFW's but having a tmobile stock firmware that will accomplish things like wifi calling and ota updates would be very beneficial at least until that final firmware update is released then I will probably root it again.. real shame they wont let you OTA update just for a simple root but then again I guess with warranties and law suits and the chance of screwing up your possible custom firmware maybe its a good thing. Anyways point me in the right direction HAHA. The phone is amazing so far and works flawlessly with the towers here. Thanks. I checked the tweaked firmware for tmobile seems like it might work like you said but Im extra cautious at times and so I would like to know If what i stated above will work ok or not ???? Its not a huge deal if i cant have ota updates but yeah I would def like to have wifi calling and maybe some of tmobiles other things but yeah Looking forward to some advice

Were you able to get the software on your N7100? I am curious as I would like to know how to get it done as well. thanks in advance.
i unlocked a sgh-i747 sgs3 for use on tmobile. when i was stock, i could get 4G and Edge only. After a suggestion, i updated my phone and it connected to all manner of 4G and HSPA networks.
i decided that i wasnt happy with the ROM and upgraded to CM 10.1.2-d2att by means of CWM v6.0.3.1.
after getting this happily flashed, i loaded CM and am now stuck in 3g.
any ideas???
I may be wrong, so don't try it without confirmation, but if you don't touch the radios, don't you need the t-mobile roms rather than the at&t ones? I suspect the problem using an at&t Rom is your apn's are messed up. Also check the order your networks try.

can you elaborate on this? i know what a radio is, but i don't know if i follow you. as someone pretty new to all this, i feel that i did mess with the radio in order to get the AT&T phone, before i installed CM, to connect properly to the 3G signals.
In recovery you can flash modems and baseband. These are specific to the hardware in your phone. You should only flash ones specific to your model number. However the Roms are basically the same between different versions of the phone but with minor changes (at least between t mobile and at&t). There was a thread around explaining how to use a t mobile Rom on an at&t phone.

meh... im in a bad place. i can't flash the CM i want because apparently the bootloader that fixes the 3G issue for me is based on ICS. if i update the bootloader so i can get the good CM, i guess i lose the fix... right now, i've reverted to the touchwiz that comes with the fix i talked about in my OP and 4G works properly again.
rock and a hard place.
Am glad you got something working. Can you sell that gs3 and get the T Mob version? If it were me, I'd probably stick with a touch wiz version for a while.
I'll try and read up some tomorrow.

heh, i just bought it. got it this morning from the post office! it was the cheapest one i could get given certain circumstances. you're right, it would be so much easier to just have the official tmobile version.
i have it back in CM now, but it's CM10.0.*. android 4.1 i think. and i'm getting HSPA+ with it. my biggest issue is that 3G fix... it sticks me on a ICS bootloader and that holds back the CM version from being anything 10.1.*. but at least i'm running CM now, even if it's not 4.2.

Thanks for the advice but I read through the thread already and it doesn't seem like it will improve drastically. So I rather not attempt to flash a modem that may cause a soft brick. My brother has a N900a and gets almost triple the speed of my lte. What gives?
I dont always get fast speeds. I'm guessing at&t phones get higher priority than other phones. There is a build.prop that you can flash/edit that may or may not work. I, myself, haven't made any mods because I get higher speeds usually. Not always. I am on a 900T but using an international 9005 rom with T-Mobile modem still. It really boils down to is the risk flashing a modem or build.prop worth it. In downtown houston I rarely dip below 10mb/s on LTE and occasionally see over 20mb/s. The congestion is real bad here so it is very often I get bumped back down to hspa. Like I said, you have to weigh the risks. I am fine with how it is working now. My post probably hasn't helped you get you where you want to go but it may help you to be content with what you have or may consider flashing an international rom minus modem and see if that helps.

I as well am on Straight Talk At&t micro sim and I get pretty decent speeds I believe Straight Talk cap's their LTE speeds at 15 down and I think around 8-9 up which ain't bad for the Chicago area. But there are times where I barely get 2 down and 4 up. I also have a Tmobile Note 3 stock/rooted using a ST sim.

Tmobile Note 3 on ATT Network
I have a Tmobile unlocked phone on ATT and I can't find out anyway to speed up the LTE. I get LTE it seems, but it cuts the speed in half compared to my girlfriend ATT variant Note 3. I tried to flash an AT&T modem to it, but then it would soft brick the device and wouldn't boot. I have tried every APN I can think of, but still no success. I have tried the build.prop, like adding the lines for faster data tweak, but still nothing is getting better. I have full bars, but speed is slow. Do you have any suggestions on what to do, b/c I am out of options. Thanks.
Add me to the list. Just switched over to AT&T from T-mobile, but get very bad speeds. The only reason why I switched over was because with T-mobile, I was getting poor quality signal almost EVERYWHERE, so I had no choice.
I'm curious; if the bands in our phones support the proper AT&T bands and we actually get LTE, it's gotta be a software issue. Modem most likely.
Yeah im sure it has to do with the way the modem is optimized for ATT's 1700 band. I'm also in the same boat and have flashed ATT's modem but it doesn't work. Others have flashed ATT modems but I dont think anyone has been able to successfully see their baseband change in the settings so no one can say whether it worked for sure. I can tell you that the bars have nothing to do with your call signal though, its just your LTE signal strength. If you really want higher signal in your house if LTE seems to drop or be super slow, you should manually switch over to use HSPA+ in your house. Its a pain...i know.
I'm hoping eventually the newer modems fix the 1700 mhz frequency optimization or some devs figure out how to successfully flash N900A modems on the N900T.
LTE speeds
I have great signal almost always it seems like. I have full bars on LTE or 4G/HSPA+, but if I put my sim card in my AT&T variant note I get at least twice as much throughput than with the note 3 tmobile. It has to be a software issue, I have tried to flash att modems with no success. Just got to wait for a tweaked modem. I have even tried tweaking build.prop file and it works a little bit but not much. It is just weird I have full bars with LTE, but I won't be able to get data sometimes, which is really weird. I think there has to be something with the signal bars showing higher dbm that it actually is receiving. Probably another software glitch. Well if anyone has any insight on this issue let us know, please been looking everywhere.
LTE speeds
I think also that the modem is not the only issue. I flashed a kernel today after being on the stock kernel on the T-Mobile and I did a speedtest and the speeds were really low. Flashed another kernel and boom faster speeds back to where I was, maybe higher, but I will monitor to see what happens. But I read that Kernels do affect data speeds sometimes. I am just going to keep looking around to see if any kernels work.

AFAIK it has nothing to do with kernel I might be wrong its just the modem

Is there any tweaks that can be done to kinda help the LTE or at least fix my signal bars showing full all the time. I am thinking it is not switching towers when it is supposed to and giving a false signal strength. Is there anything on modifying like you can on Sprint phones with dbm on wimax, where it will switch antennas.
Has anybody flashed the new N900T NE6 based ROMs / modem and seen any difference?

I upgraded the modem and bootloader to the new NE6 version. I'm on Temasek CM11. My observations:
Signal strength is slightly better. Speeds are definitely much better. Prior to the upgrade, I'd get around 6-15/down, 3/up. Now I consistently get 25/down, 10/up.

How did you get the new modem to stick? Did you do the triangle away method? If so, did you have to revert to a stock kernel first? I'm trying to upgrade only the modem and leave the bootloader as is. Is that a bad idea?

It's getting incredibly frustrating to have to repeat this a number of times. I think this morning I had to repeat it already 3 times. Please do a search; there are plenty of pointers on how to get it done. For reference, here is what I did.
