rooting us cellular us991 10D - G4 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Does anyone know if I can root my us cellular LG G4 US991 10D? I saw the large thread for rooting all variants but for us cellular it only shows US991 10C

Maybe it's sense to compare files that need to change when rooting. I'm still in 10c.

You'll need a rooted system.img from someone on 10D. I happen to have upgraded to 10D and haven't bothered rooting it in hopes that MM would drop to the US this week, but I think that was just an excuse to be lazy. I'll get an image dumped tomorrow AM, unless you can get me a dump of yours tonight yet, and inject root. I can't really get it done tonight as I'm on call and need to the phone readily available at any given moment, but I'll have an alt device on hand I can swap my SIM into.
UPDATE:
Here's the rooted image. I do not have an emulator setup with a KDZ for the US991 v10D and have not yet tested the rooted image*. I'm not responsible for any damage done to your device or boot loops, etc, although you should have no problem so long as you follow Team Codefire's Low Effort Root

Just like with Team Codefire's low effort root, please do not mirror this img file. Also, you do NOT have my permission, either, to roll this into a 'one-click' root.

*When I injected root on my own system.img for v10C I did not test it, rushed it onto my phone, and everything was flawless. I only upped to 10D because I caused boot loops playing with the build.prop and CPU governence just before Thanksgiving. I didn't have my backup on hand (it was on my work PC, I was home) and I'm impatient - so I used the LG Bridge software update to overwrite my broken system.img and resolve the issue.

thank you sir! i really appreciate your time helping me out. i did just find the thread about injecting root today so i was able to get root now, though your image should be added to the thread for others to use. thanks again!

Hey! Thank you for your root image! It's very much appreciated.

I lose sd card exfat compatibility with this... Anybody have a fix?
UPDATE: figured out why- the US991 us cell and US991 unlocked are completely different. they are not interchangeable.

Can i root my lg g4 with this version? And how?
Sure. Perfectly. At least two different ways. If you do not need and care about device encryption just search for the low effort root in this LG G4 Forum original Android Development. Search for a flashable 10C rom.
If you need device encryption, go to LG unlock your bootloader officialy, flash TWRP and flash su.
Thread for this is right here in General G4. Called complete Guide to unlock & Flash H815 or similar.

Hi, unfortunately this happened to me (more than once) when I tried rooting the first time. You'll need to download the stock image files and the LG Flash Tool to start over from scratch. I'd link you but I don't have enough posts yet to be able to.
The trick is to make sure the rooted image file is over 4 gigs when extracted, I ran into issues multiple times where the download got corrupted along the way and ended up being a few hundred meg. Keep trying and once you get the right files the Low Effort Root is amazing.
Good luck and if you need any more help please let me know!

Roms for AT&T V495?

Are there any working ROMs or even recovery for the G Pad F 8 (V495)?
Sent from my Nexus 6 using XDA Free mobile app
Not at this moment. We need more people to be interested in such.
Fortunately, there's a recovery for the V496 (T-Mobile variant).
We need testing for the v495.
Look here.. Make sure to back up your exisiting recovery. Then flash this. If it works, make sure to reply here or at the other thread. If not, still let us know.
In the event we ever get roms, you wont be able to flash anything for a specific device that isn't v496. Atleast until someone rebuilds the recovery for your device.
In any event. I would like you to contact me so that I can walk you through a dump of all of your devices partitions, except the personal ones.

i guess it is a start, as there has been no info on these tablets. i have one and really like it, but it would be nice to get rid of all the att bloatware. i have it unlocked and am using defense mobile for carrier but i cannot use it to tether or hotspot. looking forward to more info.
I have this device for US Cellular. I would really love to install CM rom on it. From my understanding the two problems are the locked bootloader that prevent us from installing a rom, and also there being no ROMs that support our version.

Specifically, a locked bootloader also makes it either impossible or extremely difficult to have root, too, which of course is a prerequisite for installing anything custom.
Also to mention that you can root it with Kingroot but there is a good chance it will also brick it. I have v495 sitting here waiting for a proper KDZ.
I keep searching everyday hoping I see a KDZ pop up. Nothing as of yet. I just bought an nVidia K1 Shield to use in place of this thing for now. Maybe one day I will get it back working.
King root 4.6.2 will give you root on marshmallow but only till you reboot.. Would be happy to help out in the cause.

LG V495
Hello!
After unsuccessful firmware, I had the same problem as badvs3vil https://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=67942420&postcount=29 blurred / damaged video screen.
I was flashing firmware from LG V490 using LGFlashTool2014.
As a result, immediately after the end of the firmware, stripes appeared on the tablet screen, and nothing was visible :crying:
There are sounds of charging, the tablet responds to touch.
Please help restore the tablet!

How can i do this? Do you have detailed instructions?
It turned out to solve the problem with a distorted image on the screen. Here I downloaded the firmware:
LG G Pad F 8.0 UK495 Stock ROM Firmware (Flash File)
Download the official LG G Pad F 8.0 UK495 Stock ROM Firmware (Flash File) for your device. We also provide Stock ROM for other LG devices.
lgstockrom.com
LG_G_Pad_F_8.0_UK495_LGUK495_UK49520c_00_0718
After installation, the image is normal!!
So, I guess there's no custom roms for this thing, huh? That's a shame. The thing is super slow and running Android 6 with AT&T bloatware

Where Are The People that Flashed the H815T with the H815 firmware and Bootunlocked??

There were some people who flashed their H815T with the H815 stock rom and then used the LG tool to unlock the bootloader. Where are you guys and what happened to your phones? Did you manage to install the H815 Marshmallow on your phones?
Were there any side effects, aside from losing the Hong-Kong specific frequencies?
Anyone?
Hey mate.
So yes i did flash stock firmware for H815-eu onto my H815T during the process of rooting right at the beginning ...tbh i may have done this by mistake as there wasnt anything for H815T available in the thread. After i finished this process my phone for all the information i could see said it was a H815 but i couldnt unlock the bootloader. After this i flashed 7s rom even though it had no support and everything is fine. I am still running it and have no need to change.
I dont think there was any real trick here as deep down i dont think it converted it to a H815. Happy to help where i can but am certainly no expert. I just followed instructions at the time and tried flashing when it said no support
The only way to unlock the bootloader is to go to the LG developer site, and download an unlock.bin specific to your IMEI.
If your phone is an H815T, LG won't give you one. It doesn't matter if you're using firmware for the H815.

This is not possible at all. it's done by IMEI, so it doesn't matter which image you flash.
Yeah didnt work at all i cant remember how far i got but it was never really gonna work.

Thanks for giving us details! Have you guys discovered any tips or tricks with the H815T? I installed the same rom as you as well as the lag fix you recommended in your previous posts.
I wonder when we are going to get Marshmallow? I feel that we were misled by LG when they said the H815 would be getting updates first. Most people probably thought that the H815T was the same thing, especially since there are H811, H812 etc...
Hey, guys, is it possible to flash any H815 custom roms to any H815 variants that do not have any unlocks for its bootloader? If so, is it through rooting, then using flashing apps like flashify? further, what about the dalvik cache, how do you wipe it without custom recovery?
qyrus said:
If you don't want to bother waiting you can flash the H815 MM kdz through LGUP. I've been on it for weeks with my H815T and everything works as it should. When the official H815T update is released it'll be pretty easy to swap over as well.

The above genius found a way to put Marshmallow on an H815T with no problems! It sounds like he did this: http://forum.xda-developers.com/g4/help/lgup-install-kdz-mm-lp-t3249803
But I can't figure out what kdz he used and whether we can upgrade without losing our apps/data/ instead of doing a full wipe... Thoughts anyone??

And it worked! My H815T seems to be working fine on Marshmallow and all my apps and data are still there!

Request for volunteers - creating debrick image for the d851

Hello, Since the Board Giag Tool Doesnt work for the D851 and the only way to unbrick the D851 is by sending it to LG Repair or Some Other Repair or Flashing it with either Medusa Box or Octoplus Box. It wasnt long when @Kathik figured out that the LG G3 F460 S/K/L which is also not supported by the Board Diag Tool can be unbricked by creating a debrick image. You can find his thread here.
This debrick image that @Kathik used is just a dump of the bootloaders from a working LG G3 F460. And all we need to do is to find a way to create the debrick image from a working D851 running the firmware version the bricked D851 was on before it got bricked.
Fortunately for all of us, i got my hands on the zip file which creates the dump or debrick image (Thanks to @Anik49) We have the file.
So all we need is volunteers to flash this zip file in TWRP and once done, you should see a file name debrick.img.zip on your Sdcard.
If this work, we wont need to send our devices for repairs or dissasemble them when they get bricked.
Please feel free to ask any questions about the process.
I flashed the zip and it said it created the debrick.img.zip but I am unable to locate it anywhere. I'm assuming this is because I am on Stock LG Marshmallow with the slight research I did with the thread you linked.
Sorry bud, I tried. It was the only G3 I had hands on. I hope someone else will volunteer in our community.
Maybe u need to downgrade to 5.0
I wrote in the other thread, the day that I put to work to upgrade to Marhsmallow, i will make the debrick files in some versions as 10c, 10f and other higher ... Right now I have a lot of work and I can not do today. Greetings

VS996 (Verizon V30) 10C Full KDZ Download (AFH) + NEW DLL File

Hello Verizon V30 Users,
I am providing the full KDZ file for the Verizon V30 software version 10C, the latest available for the VS996.
You can download it from HERE!
Coming from the V10, I've noticed the KDZ for the Verizon V30 is almost 3.5 GB, compared to just over 2 GB with the V10.
>> NEW DLL FILE REQUIRED TO FLASH!! <<
You must use LGUP to flash this. If you haven't upgraded your DLL file for LGUP, inside this same archive, you'll find a dll file named LGUP_Common.dll. Place that DLL file in C:\Program Files (x86)\LG Electronics\LGUP\model\common. Just as a precaution, change the extension of the existing LGUP_Common.dll to .bak or something in case this doesn't work for you. After you put the new DLL file in that folder, open LGUP and in the very lower left hand corner of the window, you should see DLL Version 1.0.31.9.
Enjoy! If anyone has any questions, feel free to hit me up!

There are rumors someone cracked the bootloader and rooted a Verizon LG G6, but for their own reason chose not to publish the method. Knowing the person who told me, I have no reason to doubt it. But, no, I don't know how they did it, as I am not a dev.
This of course leads to a bunch of questions. Is it possible some of the 2017 LG flagship (G6, V30) carrier models have ADB flash commands if you can get past the bootloader? We know the T-mobile LG G6 and LG V30 do not, because the bootloader is easily unlocked and they are ADB crippled. We just assumed all the other carrier modes were the same way, because no one has cracked the bootloader and published the results.
Or this person cracked the bootloader and found some other way to root. They didn't go any further than that, but they did unlock the bootloader and root a Verizon LG G6.

That link above discusses it more, but other than that I'm not interested in "proving" anything. I'm not the dev, and he can release what he wants to release. I encourage everyone to buy the "open market" version of the LG V30. That will have guaranteed root, TWRP, ROMs, kernels, etc.
If you want to read where I got it from, read back through my posts. It was discussed in open thread about three weeks ago.
The only reason I'm mentioning it here is it might be relevant to the LG V30, to let people know a carrier branded LG G6 was bootloader unlocked and rooted. If one person can do it, others can.

Dirty Santa exploit cracked the bootloader of the V20 (December 2016). And here (June 2017).
DirtySanta Exploit Unlocks the Bootloader of the LG V20 H990 -- XDA article, June 2017
And the 2016 V20 still had all the ADB flash commands. So, once past the bootloader, you had free reign. That has changed with the 2017 LG flagships, where LG has removed most of the ADB flash commands.
Even this LG V20 method, in a thread started END of August 2017 has as a first step -- RUN Dirty Santa! Even though Dirty Santa/Dirty Cow exploit was now patched, you can swap out modules in the phone, so it will then still run. So, I do not know of any LG V20 that were rooted where the bootloader was not first unlocked -- even if you are replacing out modules with "Engineering" modules or whatever to allow Dirty Santa to still run. If you have other information to the contrary, I would be interested in hearing it.
Now back during the LG G2 and LG G3 era you could root and install TWRP without unlocking the bootloader, but that was back when signed packages were not required.

I'm not a developer, but I research a lot and I have knowledgeable people tell me stuff.
I keep up with LG phones, and I know V20 bootloader was unlocked by Dirty Santa exploit. Which was why I corrected the misinformation that the V20 was rooted without unlocking the bootloader.
Maybe there's another method of rooting V20 of which I'm unaware, but in V20 forum all I see are the links I posted above - which all involve unlocking the bootloader.
But the v30 is too new to have a dirty santa version anyway. And no adb commands.
Unless this makes it on to the lg list for unlocking I dont think it will happen.
