I rebooted my 10.5 Tab S and at least a dozen apps are no longer on the screen. 4 of my 5 screens have missing apps. The apps are in the app locker and still work, just not on the screen. I rebooted several times and no change. I googled this issue and apparently this can happen when you move apps to your SD card. Looks like the missing apps are those on the 32gb SD card. I'm not a hundred percent sure since the only indicator that the apps are missing is the blank spot where they were located. Also there are other apps moved to the SD card that are still present on the screen. My issue is that my search didn't turn up any information as to why this happens, how to resolve it and how to prevent it from happening again. Anyone else experience this and if so what if anything was your solution? BTW, my tablet only has 16gb memory and all of my apps will not fit on the system memory. I should also mention that I am rooted and using Nova launcher. Thanks

I'm rooted using the stock ROM. I haven't changed anything as far as ROM's and launchers for at least 3 months. Thanks
For clarification:
You said the apps are still in the "app locker". Did you mean "app drawer"?
Have you installed any new apps recently?

Yes I should have said app drawer. No new apps recently. Today I copied the contents of the SD card to my desktop and then copied to a new 64gb SD card. After installing the new SD card I moved some apps back to internal storage from the SD card. The apps remained on the screen until I moved them back to the SD card where they would disappear from the screen again so that rules out any issue with the SD card. Strangely if you Google this issue you will find many people with it but not really any solutions. Some people were able to resolve it by rebooting several time but that did not work for me. I have been using a couple of those system clean up tools lately and I think maybe one of them screwed up something. Anyway I gave up and did a factory reset. I'm going to be more selective with which apps I install and I disabled google restore. Thanks anyway for the reply.

I just bought a Galaxy S4 mini and my apps can not be moved to my SD card. Basically, the application manager is missing the 'on the SD card' tab. So I read that there will be a software update for the galaxy s4. It should be an update for the galaxy s4 mini right? I do not want to root it, as I had enough with rooting/roms and stuff like that. The stock software seems to be more stable anyway.

Try to tap on an app in Application Manager, there should be 'Move to SD card' button (in Storage section). Just tap it and the app is moved, however this does not move the app data.
I rooted mine and still cant fully move Alps. Tried titanium backup app2sd. Link2sd. None of them work. I guess its this emulated storage thing?
Is there no easy way to work around it or will it likely be fixed when custom roms start appearing?

A software update from Samsung does not necessarily mean that they will provide the functionality for moving apps to the SD card.
At the moment, only apps which support moving their data onto the SD card will show a "Move to SD" button in the App Info pane of the application.
Even when they show the button it only moves a small portion of it.
I was thinking more of when cm is out for it. I'm guessing this emulated storage thing is not limited to s4 mini and somehow its a case of making mmc the install location over the internal space
Sent from my GT-I9195 using Tapatalk 2
Yes it's not limited to the S4 mini. That's why it's a popular feature in custom roms as many stock roms do not allow installation of apps on the external SD.

If you are rooted, you can move the app to SD via standard 'Move to SD Card' button in App section and then use FolderMount (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2192122) to "move" the rest of the app data that is not moved by 'Move to SD Card' function. It works for me on my I9195.
Some users also say that GL2SD works for them (https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.slf.ListglApp&hl=en) on S4, so it might also work on the mini.
Hi, Just rooted my Galaxy Note 2 and would like to move the apps to external SD Card. Tried using Droidsail, it returns with a message - not enough space. Could anyone help? Also, how to make the external sd card as a default back up space for Titanium backup?
try it using App to sd or Link 2 SD. They both work for me. About the TB you should check the settings

Sorry to open this thread after several months but I am having the same issue. I rooted my ATT Note II (i317) running stock 4.1.2 and cannot figure out how to transfer apps. I have App Manager (formerly Known as App2SD) and it is reporting the function is not available. Is there anything I need to do such as install a custom ROM?
Thanks.
4.3 touchwiz roms have a "move to SD" option built in.
Hello guys,
This might seem like an idiot question but I totally confused here
My internal note 2 memory says 3.19GB free of 10.4GB. I am trying to clean my space so I plugged the note 2 to my pc on WIndows 8.1.
I selected all the files and folders in the memory and checked their size which summed up to only 3.24GB! I am really trying to find out whats taking so much space. Should I connect my Note II to Linux and check or how do I find out the total contents of thiis internal memory??
Please help me!
Thanks
It should be caused by using warez??
A lot of apps do a mess. I recomend wipe internal storage

Hello,
Thanks about your quick reply! :highfive:
Well it may be but not in my case as almost all apps I use are either free or purchased properly.

As about this,
This is exactly what I would be keeping as my last option. Essentially wiping internal memory is almost equal to factory reset, something I don't want to do unless I don't have any other choice..
Any way of of checking whats taking the memory without formatting would be great
Thanks

In Titanium Backup app you find the exact memory stats devided in system and internal. To optimize internal mem push as many apps to ext sd as you can.
Besides: From Windows/PC you normally can't see hidden or system files.
For further information (eg more space in system) feel free to ask.

Hello,
Thanks for your insight. I am aware of the Windows dilemma hence was trying to get through using Linux but I could not :crying:
However I am already using the Titanium Backup app.. I have pushed almost all possible apps to external memory however I came across a problem where the majority data and memory are still being taken up on the internal memory by that app. Clearing Google Camera, Chaton and Camera Awesome's data, I almost got a GB in internal memory!
Speaking of this I have run into a very weird problem. :silly:
after rooting, I force transferred many apps to external memory. Since this Every time I restart my Note II its forgets my default launcher
Any idea what screwed this up?
Regards

You can't move or force all apps to ext sd, especially system or system related apps, so I recommend to reinstall your rom and try to move step by step, so you can revert back by only changing one app back to int. I remember an app which forces apps to ext and also with that app it is recommended to change quite a descent amount of apps.

Your problem can be related to apps that uses root access - this type of apps leaves a lot of trash even after uninstalling, so I recommend you to use only those apps, that are really needed.
Mine phone memory got piled up like yours...Titanium Backup helped me. Pushed lots of app to ext SD....
I have the wifi only US version of the tab s 8.4 inch, and I cannot move apps to SD card for some reason. I'm not rooted anything, and running Android 4.4. I tried doing it through the built in application manager, but I just get a "unable to move app to SD card" message. I also tried using an app called app2sd, and it didn't work either. App2sd worked just fine on my note edge running lollipop though. Could it be that I need lollipop on my tablet for it to work? I just bought a 64 gb micro SD card for my tablet because I was running out of space, but as you can see I have be3n unable to use it. Any ideas?
I know third party apps cannot write to the external microsd in 4.4 , in 5.0 it is fixed, but you would think the built in system apps would let you do it.

Thing is, all app2sd card does is automate the process. It's like a batch file that automatically opens the information page on each app (using built in application manager) where you can click "move to SD card" . So it's really no different than doing it manually with no third party app, so I don't think what you mentioned is the problem
I downloaded app2sd and i moved a few apps from my internal flash memory to microsd without any problems, I have an non-rooted v4.4.2 10.5" T800 , below is the app i used.

This does not even let me try to use it . It just says "no need to move, SD card shares the same disk with OS". I also reformatted the SD card, still no luck. I can't be the only one with this issue. Anyone ?
Remove you microsd and do a factory data reset, make sure you backup the data you need to keep first, very strange that your tab thinks your ,microsd is just a directory on your system flash memory, might be worth formatting your microsd in your notebook if you have an adaptor, just in case you tab is putting system files on you microsd, then put it back in your reset tab and do a format on it, if the tab does not do it for you.
It would be nice if some other forum members could help you, maybe you need to get a mod to change your thread title, to something like "help: my android tablet thinks my microsd is system memory and will not let me move my apps to it"
Or something like that might get your thread more attention.
Or try posting on more than one android forum, I use the one below, but there are lots more.

Turned out to be defective micro SD card. Lesson learned : stick with San disk, death to Sony
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SM-N915A using Tapatalk
It also very highly depends on your defin4of moving an app to your SDcard. Most apps of various sizes only move a very very very small portion of their data to the sdcard. Like a 1GB app moving 56MB or a 24MB app moving 16KB. Some apps are smart and can move their obb files but there are quite a lot of apps that are not programed well and move only a little bit of data or none at all.
But as for this specific tablet samsung was kind enough to include app2sd as part of its system files (along with all the bloatware), so you do not need on a stock rom (kitkat or lollipop) to install any other app moving program.

Using my wileyfox swift for a few days now and having a blast. This is the cheapest phone I ever got and i'm enjoying it
even more than my Nexus 4.
Today on the other hand, something strange happened to me.
Phone was working fine with a Samsung Evo 32 GB UHS-I formatted as internal storage.
Today I decided to move some apps from internal storage to the SD. I should have never done this..
After 3 apps the phone would stop moving them and stuck at 0%.
I thought this was just (another) android bug an rebooted the phone.
I moved 3 more apps and the same problem occurred.
This time the phone got stuck in bootloop at the wileyfox logo and a soft reset solved this.
When the phone booted I noticed 6 apps had disappeared, strange thing is. These weren't the apps I moved to my SD.
After opening the app drawer my phone froze completely, another soft reset was needed. This went on 5 more times, until I
removed the SD card. After this the phone started fine.
I checked the SD in my laptop and it was only showing the folder "Lost.dir".
When trying to format the SD card it was only showing a option to format it to 16MB.
After this i used Windows build in "disk manager" and noticed that there was a second (and main) partition of 16MB on the
card(?!).
After removing this partition I could format it to the original size.
It took me 5 tries before the phone would format it to use as internal storage. It would force close 4 times before with
an error message.
Can't find anything related about this issue on Google, is this a known bug?
TL;DR: Moving apps from internal storage to SD f'ed up my SD partition/card. Can't find anything about this issue online.
Phone info:
Wileyfox Swift
Cyanogenos 13.1.2, latest updates installed.
Not rooted, locked bootloader, nothing modified.
Even if u can use sd card as internal storage or whatever is not recomended to use it. Or even move apps on it my friend lost his 32gb sd card after using app to sd or something similar i dont remember
Actually this is some solid advice for everyone.
I tried using a build in feature and it did a whole lot of staying things. Since this happened I will stay away from the feature.
