So,
I was downloading maps for Nokia Drive (entire US) and I was sitting on fully functional WI-FI. I was assuming it was downloading the maps over wi-fi because wi-fi was fully active on my device so i put it on the bed and started doing my computer business. But after a while I started to receive emails&sms from AT&T saying I'm almost over my data limit. I killed the download process and made sure it was on wi-fi. Started it again, and it was using my data to download again.
So, why the hell is it using my data connection to download maps? I didn't turn my data off, but isn't Nokia Drive supposed to download maps ONLY when on Wi-Fi?
That's odd. My L900 Wi-Fi always takes precedence. Only used 500MB on my Unlimited plan last month with Wi-Fi on most of the time.

Does anybody know if there is an app that can check if I'm using wi-fi as my phone tells me I am?
2 Things to think about here...
1) I've noticed that my Lumia 900 still sometimes downloads off the cell net even if Wi-Fi is active and working. I think this is a bug.
2) If you phone goes in to standby mode, Wi-Fi will turn off, and it'll start downloading over cell network. I've had this happen with downloading games off the marketplace that start over wifi, but then stop, and resume over the cell network when the screen/phone goes in to standby mode.
Contacted Nokia, they said that if wifi is unstable (meaning disconnects even once for a minute), it will automatically switch to data to download maps. Wish I knew that before.. 3GB gone in an hour.
Future downloaders, take note. If you want to download maps without data, make sure you switch your data off before downloading.
Bandwidth will tell you while running a speedtest if you are on WiFi, 4G, LTE, etc. But you can only sideload this app now as it was removed from Marketplace. Not sure if the other speedtest apps also provide that info.
I have noticed at least one app, Fox News, that only appears to like a data connection. So if I turn data off for a couple hours, but leave WiFi on, and even if I am almost constantly using the phone, the Background agent will be disabled within a hour or two. I suspect other apps may have some coding that could cause this kind of problem.

I just got one of these for my wife. Being an Android guy, I am lost at how some things work on this phone. I see here it's mentioned to turn data off.... How?

Yup just saw that in the manual duh
WP7 by design will turn off wi-fi whenever phone goes into sleep (you can easily verify this by wake up your phone and check the wi-fi icon on status bar. It will start beaming up because wi-fi is connecting). However, you can change this behavior by keep the phone plugged into the charger.
Because of this, anytime you want to do any kind of big download, swipe down your status bar and verify your wi-fi icon is active and steady. You don't need an app to tell that.
Remember, just because you have wi-fi turned on doesn't mean your phone is using it all the time.
Hello, Is anyone else having issues where mobile data will just stop working?
IE its enabled, working, 4g icon(what a joke!) shows up. then time passes, no 4g icon, Mobile still enabled, no internet access.
to get it working again, I have to either
A) reboot the phone
B) turn off mobile data, turn on Airplane mode, then off airplane mode, and before the cell looks for networks, turn mobile data back on. Ive had this problem on and off for a while now, and my mom just got one and she's having the same issues (albeit not as often as mine) I rooted mine, but her's is stock.
any ideas what could be causing this?

I am having problem with Mobile data, the phone status bar show 4G LTE icon and i have 2 bars on the signal but i get no data coming thru.
I reboot the the phone and i get data right away, after a certain time the phone would loose the data connection, i dont know when it will do this.
Sometimes I toggle the Airplane mode, i would fix the connection too. But phone reboot always does the trick.
Anyone knows of a fix or a work around for this?
I am running ViperOne 1.6 Rom. 1.5 OTA to 1.6

I have the same problem except I'm using the T-Mobile version. I would be listening to Pandora and the internet connection would drop for 5 minutes. Statusbar shows good LTE and toggling mobile data does not do anything, only restarting or waiting. Using ARHD 5 on TMOUS

I'm having an annoying issue since upgrading to Oreo.
When disconnecting from some WiFi networks the mobile data doesn't turn back on. No amount of going in to airplane mode fixes it. A reboot is usually required.
It doesn't occur with all WiFi networks.
Has anyone seen this? Or know a fix?
I'm running Oxygen 5.0.1

Hey, I lose mobile internet connections quite often.
Haven't noticed a trend, so can't say if it's Wifi related. Neither toggling aeroplane mode or mobile data on and off makes it work again so I just end up resetting the phone.
I'm sorry I can't offer anything useful, but I can at least say you're not alone!
This is happening to me as well oxygen 5.0.3 , total pain I've got tasker to switch on hotspot and mobile data when I enter car but Data doesnt connect and have to reboot phone
Hi guys. can anyone help me with my phone. been 2 days now i cannot use lte connection. i tried resetting network still the same. i even factory reset the phone still the same. i can use 3g but not lte. whenever i use it always says check connection. also when i locked my phone the data lost connection even if turn off mobile data when screen lock is put to never pls help.
