Pictures of LED Lighting - Verizon HTC One (M9)

Anyone else have this issue?
Taking pictures of LED lighting seems to have this effect.
Using the front facing camera does not have this issue.

I saw this before after an update to the HTC Camera app from the playstore. It was a while ago and I don't remember which rom I was on at the time or when exactly it got corrected. I am currently on FluentRom 3.0.1 Running the HTC Camera V.7.30.581119 from Jul 23, 2015 and I do not have it happening. I also have the Camera Mod installed from here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/one-m9/general/camera-tweak-thread-to-make-m9s-camera-t3219828, but I don't think that has anything to do with it. I do know that mine was not caused by a dirty lens though.

YES. I'm on stock, not rooted. Use Camera Zoom mainly but it happened across multiple camera apps so it's got to be a hardware interface issue
Tapatalk is crashing every time I try to insert an example pic, but it looks just like yours.

Interesting; also on Fluent on my non-test M9, where I haven't seen this, but I saw this phenomenon when shooting candles from an M9 running a test Marshmallow build.

It looks like a bad sensor. Is it happening consistently in different camera apps? What happens if you try a camera app such as Camera360 that lets you alter the ISO (in normal mode)?
If possible, can you upload samples taken against a solid white background under even lighting?
Please, anyone??? i have the same problem.... i've changed the camera, still fail
sounds like a hardware issue gents.

I had the exact same issue on HTC G2, it's indeed hardware. The great news is it's just a mechanical issue: Push on the camera, perpendicular to the battery case (straight into the phone). It will fix this issue.
Lots of success with this method at androidforums. I cannot post a link, but google "androidforums evo camera 152727"
Cheers

+1. I had this with all three of the G1's I owned, and I had it with my G2 not too long ago. Not sure why this keeps happening, but just put the phone screen down on a table, and push down on the camera. One of the strangest fixes ever but hey, whatever works!

Android Camera 4.2 Freeze

Hey guys, I can't reply to the actual thread due to the fact that I have less than 10 post. Even though I've been a member since 2007 lol. Anyway just an observation, With the new Android Camera 4.2.zip from androidcentral I can do the photo sphere just fine, front facing camera works just fine, recording video front front camera and rear camera work fine but if I take a picture with rear camera it will snap the photo and lock up. I am running CM10 with the nightly from last night (Nov 2, 2010) is the date on it.

Same here. On mine It was working for a while. Now, I can take one photo and then the camera freezes. Shortly before that happened I started seeing an error saying something about not being able to access the camera when I tried to run it. It was working for a while, now it's not. Tried rebooting a couple times. Tried using Titanium Backup Pro to "Freeze" the other camera/gallery apps. Did not seem to help.
I'm running: Galaxy S3 T999 (T-Mobile) with AOKP Jelly Bean Milestone 1.
Having similar problems on AOKP. It's still buggy so I would just re-flash rom and re-install google gallery to get old camera+gallery back. 4.2 will release to AOSP in about 10 days so just sit tight
Same problem here, it seems that it works for me if i disable the flash-led, but freeze with it or when it's set on "auto" (and a dark place)
PS. I'm running Galaxy S3 with Omega 31 with siyah kernel.

here you are sir, http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1965895
i got same problem on rooted stock
well
a reboot fixes it it appears that flash brakes it, so no flash for now
Workaround for this:
Change camera mode from Auto to any other mode. (Here I chose Active).
If you want Auto mode, make sure you tap screen first to focus the camera.

Same issue for me. I'm running Galaxy S3 with Omega 34 srock kernel. It freezes only when using flash.
This is a known issue. The issue being the camera is designed for 4.2 and thus won't work properly on 4.1. Unfortunately, there's really nothing that can be done (aside from the workarounds already mentioned), believe me I've looked. Until we're on 4.2 (CM10.1, etc) the 4.2 camera just won't be fully functional.
working now
Guys, it works
just found an amazing workaround. when you need to use the flash - long press the shutter button. it will use the flash to focus, only when it shuts down the flash, release the press.
I have no issues using the 4.2 camera. I'm on stock jelly bean. Photosphere works and it doesn't freeze. *shrug* I googled 4.2Camera_t04.zip. works great.

So you can take pictures in "Auto" mode without tapping the screen first and it doesn't crash? If so, you're the first person I've seen that doesn't have that problem.

Instagram problem, photo getting zoomed in after snapping

Im a huge Instagram user and I've been having a problem when snapping photos using Instagram.
Whenever I snap a picture, the photo will be cropped off 1/2 in on each sides thus ruining the composition. There are no issues on video though/
I'm currently on Omega v18 (stock rom based) and Im not sure if it's a ROM-specific problem or just issues of IG with the Note 2.
Can anyone else try this and see if after snapping a photo the final photo will get smaller or like zoomed in than whats showing in the viewfinder prior to snapping.
Thanks.
4.1 update doesny fix it.
Anyone kind enough to check? Im pretty sure most of you have Instagrams :/
No one has instagram to test this out?
No issues here, see.

Hi Chobie,
I have the same problem as you example. I took a pic of an apple, fit it into the whole pic and then when i snap, the end result is not what was seen before i snap. It sort of zoom in/cropped the photo such that you dont see the whole apple & the sides have been cut off. I'm also using Note 2 & i dont know when did this problem occurs. I searched all over the internet but it seems that no one is having that problem. My sister is using S4 but she doesnt have this problem.
Did you manage to fix it? I uninstall and install back the app, no help at all

Thanks. Nope still no fix for it. I even reverted back to stock ROM to see if it's a ROM problem but it produces the same problem.
I've reported bug to instagram's website so you can probably report it as well to escalate the problem.

Ugh. That's weird. I wonder what's wrong...
Happening to me as well. The only solution I could find was to disable the option to "Use Instagram's advanced camera" under "Advanced features". This way it uses the phones camera and then asks you to crop the photo on your own.
I hope they fix it soon.

I have the same problem. Picture is zoomed after a picture is taken. Very frustrating. Clearing app data repairs the issued for just a while. Reported a problem to Instagram via in app feature. No response. I'm using Sony Z5, Android 7.0

Camera unable to focus - Sultanxda's rom

as the title says, recently when I open my camera app, the rear camera is unable to focus no matter what I do, the same happens with snapchat and other camera apps. I was wondering if this is an issue within the rom or if its a general OP3 issue and if anyone could help me attempt to fix it.
I'm on SultanXda's rom with the 19th of Feb patch. (would post this on the rom's page but my account is too new to reply on that)
Thanks in advance
Even I have this kind of issue and I am using resurrection reimx ROM. The camera is not focusing. Neither in the camera app nor in the apps like snapchat.
Hope someone has a solution for this.

Just tried with rom-delieverd-snapcamera, and the focus is just working fine.
Just touch the screen, where to focus and snap.
Maybe you can give us some hint to reproduce?

sadly touch focus isnt working on my phone, starting to think it might be a hardware issue instead since it just suddenly started happening. I'm not too sure what is different from when it was working either :/ just that one day touch focus stopped working and auto focus stopped as well.
So you can wait for an update, or any other reported issues with focus on sultans rom oder you might try another rom, if it still exists, to make sure, its not a HW issue.
Ehy guyz, it is an hardware problem. U can fix it opening the phone and using some scotch to maintain in place the camera. Or send it in RMA. Or use a magnet near the camera, out of the phone's case as is possible to see in attached photo

Question Whatsapp video call camera zoomed in

Anyone else noticed how Whatsapp video calls (using the selfie-cam of course) is really zoomed in? Found myself having to hold the phone quite far from my face to achieve the normal framing, as otherwise my usual distance means my entire face is the persons screen that I'm calling!
It'd be great to change the zoom and maybe even utilise the stock cam for the wide angle option, but realise this is likely not possible?
Does using the volume keys change that while in the call?

Hmm unsure, I don't think so but I'll be having a video call later so will test. Do you feel it may do?
It's a known thing that others have brought up as well.. not sure if it's a bug or anything
Just to update: realised this is now fixed and WhatsApp video call is no longer zoomed in.

Hi, I have the same issue with my Pixel 6 and it is still not resolved for me. Could you confirm if the new Pixel update resolved it for you? All the video calling apps including WhatsApp and Duo still have zoomed-in blurry videos with washed-up colors for me. Thanks.

Hey.
I actually noticed this was fixed before the Dec update. So I'm unsure whether this was fixed in the mid-Nov update or though thinking about it, perhaps it's a Whatsapp app fix rather than Pixel fix.
I had logged the error with Whatsapp and note you have the Pixel 6 and not 6 Pro, so I'd advise raising it with them.
It's great though just to say, feels good to not have to hold the phone so far away from my facew just so the other person doesn't get my ugly mug filling up their entire screen lol
It's definitely not fixed, I have the latest Dec update on my pixel 6 and what's app video call is still zoomed into my face n blurry.

Grrr weirdly after the Dec it's back to being zoomed!!!
I swear guys it was fine and now it's not, so I'm clueless as to what origin of this problem is.....
Update: reported it via the built-in method within the app (last time I just emailed them) which sent logs and device info however because I'm rooted they said it's unsupported.
Perhaps someone unrooted with this issue could report...

Same here. I'm on
SQ1D.211205.016.A4
This also happened with the November build.
Probably the fractional zoom levels offered by the P6 cameras. A *lot* of software can't zoom out less than 1.0 and needed updates.
I'm not rooted and I'm in the Dec update on my pixel 6. I've sent the logs through to what's app so hopefully they reply back
Hi has anyone found a fix for this yet? I'm on the newest 220205.004 build and this problem still persists.
**Update: Joined the Whatsapp beta test program and can confirm the zooming issue has been fixed! So it appears it's been a Whatsapp issue all along and not a Pixel issue. If you're not part of the beta test and don't want to be, then I guess waiting until the new update comes out will be your best solution.
I can confirm the issue is fixed for me running WhatsApp Beta.

Not exactly. Its actually silly for the "back at you" camera to have a fractional zoom level. It doesn't actually zoom out, 1:1 ratio is zoomed *in* a bit.
It does make some sense on the "away from you" camera, since there are 3 separate sensors and the MAIN sensor is defined as 1:1.
