Hey guys and girls,
I am thinking about switching from sense to an aosp rom but I know on other phones I have had quirks and things that haven't worked right compared to sense. I was hoping that you guys could help me out by answering some questions about aosp roms such as CM12.1 for example.
1. Does the camera take the same quality pics as sense?
2.. Does anyone ever have issues with duplicate texts being sent or received?
3. Is the signal strength the same as sense?
4. Does bluetooth have issues with cutting out when connected to an external speaker?
5. Does anyone have issues with their phone not ringing when people call?
Thanks for any help that you can give me!

1.No, it works but it's not as good.
2. I personally didn't, not once. Using candy rom.
3. My signal was exactly the same, using EE UK.
4. Bluetooth worked exactly the same on candy rom, no issues at all, same for GPS.
5. Phone calls were spot on and the audio was actually louder.
Overall, AOSP is great, but you have to accept some limitations and some issues which pop up, the camera for me is the biggest issue, sense camera on a sense rom is just altogether a better experience, but if it's just point and shoot and simple stuff, you'll be fine.
Hope this helps.
is there anyway of double tap to wake on AOSP?

Its kernel related mate, it's been done on lots of other ROMs for other phones. One thing I've noticed besides your phone turning on in your pocket, it mashes your battery. It needs to be seriously optimized and up until now I've not seen dt2w on aosp on the m9.
Might get done but not just yet.

Everyone is complaining that my outgoing audio is horrible. They hear me, but it is muffled, with an echo, and not very clear.
I'm not sure if it started when I installed AOKP, or whether it started after I installed the new skin.
Ideas anyone????
Can anyone specify where the two microphones are? I know that one is on the bottom. But I can't find the other one (unless it is on top under the back cover)...?
try turning down the ear piece volume the mic can pick it up
This happened to mine as well. I had to factory reset it, but that fixed the problem. Obviously some update (most likely) or program caused it. Backup everything first (apps media and data). I then reinstalled my apps from the app store then recovered my data from the backup.
Remember, the reset will erase EVERYTHING on the phone -- including "SD" memory.

A couple of questions:
1. which ROM are you on? Are you on stock ROM or AOKP?
2. I did a factory reset before upgrading to AOKP Build 28. A factory reset DOES NOT wipe the SD card. It only wipes app data and rom data. What reset are you talking about?
I'm wondering whether this problem is due to something simple as a modem change. Feedback anyone?

Well I did a factory reset and installed AOKP Build 31 and I still have the same problem.
The factory reset DID NOT format the SD drive, so I have no idea what you are talking about.
Is anyone else experiencing bad outgoing audio?

First of all, I am sorry to hear that you are having this problem. We welcome you to our lives. A lot of CDMA Gnex and a few GSM GNex users had this issue arise more than 4 months ago.
Second of all, I don't think you searched for this issue yet, or you just haven't found it, so I'll do the search for you. This issue is somewhat prevalent.
1) the post I made about this issue:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1604730&highlight=microphone
2) the post most of us with this issue have been following here on XDA:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1403051
3) And the location map (Although, I personally believe location doesn't even matter because even according to this post, it pretty much happens everywhere):
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1545621
4) Google Issue Report:
http://code.google.com/p/android/issues/detail?id=24019
The bottom line:
1) there's no fix as of yet, even if some users naively recommend you to get custom ROMs, Radio, Factory Reset, the chances are, none of will work.
2) due to severe variations among devices, some have whole lot worse than others (happening as soong as 5 sec into a call on every other call), some have it better than others (never had it happen for weeks, but infrequent enough for it to be any "issue" per say.)
3) I have noticed many of the members here at XDA don't even use GNex as a phone that much but rather a very nifty computer you can flash OSs on. Hence, the issue might be a little bit more prevalent than users report simply because many of us don't use this phone as a phone.
4) When you hear from problem free users "You are covering mic with your finger", "It's probabaly user issues, check out the apps that you installed."
Stay calm, just realize that some hasn't seen this issue and do not understand what we are going through.
5) In the mean time, I recommend you not using this phone for business purposes (e.g. try landline or second phone for conference calls, etc). Or even use a flip phone for business purposes. You may also try to get a replacement hoping the other one will have less issue. But it will have it most likely as well.
Let the other party know if your voice becomes robotic sounding and starts breaking up, let them know you'll call them back as soon as you call them.
6) Contact your carrier, and let them know. Many of them actually have been telling all of us the fix is on the way since January, so who knows..
Hope this post saved your time understanding this issue in depth.
Thank you for reading my 4 months of investigation regarding this issue.
Charlescom: I read through your posts and I am doubting whether I have the same problem as you.
My OP stated that people hear me, but it is muffled, with an echo, and not very clear. Your posts state that the microphone cuts out entirely or sound turns robotic. My microphone has never cut out.
Is this really the same problem?

In a broader scheme of things, it is a similar problem or even a same problem.
I had people tell me 1) my voice turned into a static robot that chops up 2) muffled with an echo...as well..

Well it seems that the fix works for some people on the Desire and on the Nexus One on a 4.04 ICS ROM!
Can one of you tech experts check it out???
It was the only fix that worked for me--my issues were no onboard working mike and overdriven audio to listener as well as echo. I am on that rom--bcmics 4.0.4

Now we need to know whether it works on the Galaxy Nexus GSM and AOKP...
And can someone create the fix in the form of a CWM zip? Most of us have no idea how to use ADB.

Cwm zip is a good idea. Learn how to use adb. It's actually pretty damn easy.

Can someone with expertise here create a CWM version of the audio fix for us? And comment on whether it actually works on the Galaxy Nexus GSM? And AOKP?
I'd love to find out whether it works!

I got this issue while running AOKP.
Yup. Never changed ROMs faster.

Which ROM are you using now on your GNex GSM? I think that AOKP is based on CyanogenMod so I don't think CM9 would work either.
Are you having this problem with calls only or does it happen when you record audio with the mic (I.e. a video or voice recording)?
Personally, I'd stick with stock rom and kernel as the custom stuff often introduce issues here and there and troubleshooting them can be a nightmare.

I just tried a video recording with the front camera and the audio is great. Sound recording in the same conditions with Tape-a-Talk sounds pretty bad (robotic). And calls sound pretty bad too.
Could it be that the stock camera is using/not using the second microphone for noise cancellation, and the calls feature isn't?
I've seen several threads about the problem of the call issues, When first the call echo now the bad quality sound on CM and MIUI..
Devs I love your roms. they are amazing and I know that you all probably had tried to solve the call issue once it for all. Even though you make magic to the call issues, it still not gone completely.
There might be other users like me that love roms. special if we want to run JB or MIUI or any other than Stock TW. but the call issues are taking us from using these amazing roms..
I personal am so jealous because I love to use miui on my phone or JB but everytime I do my wife calls me and boom I have to flash back to stock TW because of these issues. I think you all know that people you are talking to is the ones who cant hear you or have an echo...
Now some say the that problem is hardware some say its drivers I dont know what it is and I'm sure you ''DEVS'' know what it is causing it.
My question here is wether we are gonna get rid of this issue once it for all or are we close to it or there is nothing to do.
I know Eugene have done wonderful on getting it fix but although in my end the issue still comes...
P.S some say that problem is on one of the mics ''top one to be exactly'' is there a way to just shut it off,
Then again Im not trying to flame anybody this is something that just gets on my nerves. Now if you have some sarcasm to say keep it to your self Xda for me is like a family. and we all try to help each other
If someone knew how to fix it, don't you think it'd be fixed?

That's what I was thinking
just like any variant in the Galaxy S Line. There is no sure fire fix, because these roms are built off the SGSII and ported (officially/unofficially) to our's and other variants. the T-Mobile SGS 1 had the same microphone issues. These are driver related and won't be properly fixed without Device source information related the OS in question.
the easiest "temp" fix is to mute/unmute after recieving a phone call. This will generally fix the issue for the duration of that phone call.
for future reference though if your gonna go samsung, and plan on being a rom flasher, I would suggest you invest in an International Device as they recieve updates quicker, and tend to have there sources available (which means smoother more stable roms)
even the SGSIII is going to run into issues due to the chipset variation from the world version (dual core vs quad core)
on that note though, now that 4.0.4 has been officially released for the Hercules, we should see Small issues like this addressed in the aosp 4.0.4 for our device.
I see you showed interest in Jellybean, i'll be frank on this. Unless we get JB officially from samsung for our SGSII there will never be a "perfect" fix to the microphone issue. (maybe a possibility if the skyrocket were to get JB or even the Sprint Variant) but the 4'3 inch SGSII is seperate hardware therefore drivers aren't compatible.
If you are referring to ICS, the call quality issues were resolved long ago.
If you are using JB AOKP / CM, make sure you have enabled noise suppression within your call settings. Go to your dialer, hit the menu button and scroll down to noise suppression.
With that being said, I have no problems with call quality using the latest AOKP JB ROMs though YRMV.

ICS hasnt been fixed all the way.. The issue are still on Miui and CM9 although it is better but not gone completely.
I even been having problems where I have to speak louder so the other person can hear me on stock rom, also I noticed that every now and then this issue comes on ICS Miui. sometimes I have to hung up and call back.
hello I am having some problems with 4.2.1 I am under rogers and when I flash the aokp it works but when I make calls and I use the speaker phone it is quiet I cant hear ppl at all and when I put the stock one in its louders on the speaker phone and the head speaker is there a fix or am I doing something wrong
I believe it is a 4.2 issue, so no matter what rom you are running, volume will be low. Sounds like it might be fixed shortly. Will just need our wonderful developers to incorporate into their roms.

You should try and read the OP of my thread. You would then realize that that issue was fixed.
Update to today's latest build. The low, in call volume has been fixed. Also, please read the change logs that accompany each release as they often address issues, such as the one you've mentioned.
now how about the led to flash I turned it all on and it doesn't flash at all and I cant seem o get the lte to work
X-iPhone user here but I have owned android honeycomb tablets in the past.
hey guys, I have been at this for days. I LOVE what 4.2.1 brings to the table over the stock bloatware 4.1.1 that slows down the phone(also kills the battery faster). but No matter what ROM I try I get choppy bluetooth . With CyanogenMod 10.0 BT works but There is no bass until I make a BT call let it ring for 5 seconds then hang up. But there are other issues all BT related as well such as no resume on start up of the headunit.
my question is am I doing something wrong or just not using the right roms?
right now I restored back to the OEM 4.1.1 and my BT works perfect with my poineer AVH-P3400BH with the exception of no METADATA but thats not a big deal.
thanks so much for your reply
Shawn
I've been using the latest vanilla root box. This thing is beastly, give it a shot. I'm a big Bluetooth user too, and the audio is crisp and loud, with good bass, no need to make a phone call. The only thing, every so often (read, not very often) the Bluetooth doesn't like to turn off. All you have to do it force stop Bluetooth sharing in manage apps though.
Give it a shot. Easily one of the best ROMs I've ever used.

crap, It was working for a while with RootBox-JB-d2att-V3.6 but I had to do the phone call before I got bass again. I also cant see Metadata or hear texts. After a few calls and a few texts the phone crashed and I just had a flashing blue light and a black screen. this stinks I really like the phone and want this to work.
im going to try 3.7.1 and if that dont work im going to give up :crying:

WHATSAPP HAS some tricky thing going on! in all custom roms
1. voice call volume is too low
2. whenever audio note is played, screen goes off for couple of secont
3. you cannot sent voice note less than 1 sec!
