Fire Phone is asking for PUK - Amazon Fire Phone

Hi,
i just bought a quite cheap, used fire phone. Its from germany (Telekom). The preowner told me that its netlocked.
Unfortunately its seems to be completly locked for every sim, no matter if Telekom or a different carrier.
Its asking for the SIM-Puk. Doenst matter which SIM i insert. I tried PUK and PUK2 with two different sim-cards but the phone is not accepting it.
I can boot normally if i just "dismiss" it. But then the sim is not working (obviously).
Installing Cyanogenmod does not change anything in that regards.
It seems like that kind of behaviour happens, when you try to remove the simlock with the wrong unlock code too many times.
For example from a reddit-post:
"[...]After calling around almost everywhere possible - including a brief call to AT&T - I discovered that the phone is permanently carrier locked if you enter the code wrong too many times. Basically, you just created an expensive brick."
I hope thats not the case. Can somebody help?
Thanks!

When your security PIN is entered incorrectly 3 times, the handset becomes "blocked" to prevent unauthorised use. To remove the block the PUK (Personal Unblocking Key) code needs to be entered. This code is supplied with your Prepay SIM card when you buy it.
So you need to get the puk number from the guy you bought it off, hopefully he has the number of you will need to go to the provider and request it.
Anything related to the sim, imei blacklisted or simlocked should be avoided.
You should check if its not blacklisted also

Contact vodafone for an unlock code or contact the ebay guy in the main sticky who you can get the same code off of (in minutes usually) for a small price

This. I have the same problem (different country and carrier). I put in a different SIM and no place for me to add an unlock code (if I get one).
depends on where you are going to and what you will be using the most.
i use VF passport and euro data, keeps costs down quite a bit although if you are going to be hammering the data then a 'local' sim card might be best
can you not just get a 'local' vf sim for where you are travelling to? it might work

yes ,im pretty sure abt that,
and im going to china where the vodafone passport does not cover,so i have to get a local one to save cost
I haven't bothered asking my carrier because I'm not even prompted for a code when adding a different SIM. I wouldn't know what to do with it if I had it.

mine asked me when i put a new sim in but the instructions from the guy slelling the codes suggested the following in his email
"To unlock your phone, please put a SIM card from another network that not same as your phone locked to, then input the unlock code above. You might need to disable or input your simcard's PIN first before entering the unlock code.
You can also try dialing #7465625*638*# and then input the unlock code."

this is what it says regarding the NUC
We’ll supply a Network Unlock Code (NUC) for you if you've bought a phone from us on either pay monthly or pay as you go. An NUC allows you to use non-Vodafone SIM cards with your Vodafone phone. If the unlock code is held in our systems, you’ll receive the unlock code and instructions by email within 24 hours. If the unlock code isn’t held by us, you’ll get an email confirming your request has been received - and that the turnaround time is 48 hours for all makes except Samsung, which is 7-10 working days.
You can only get unlock codes for the numbers on your account. If you have two mobile numbers on your account, then you can get two free unlock codes. There’s usually no charge for these network unlock codes.
Most pay monthly phones and devices are not network locked. Before requesting a network unlock code, please try a non-Vodafone SIM card and check for error messages.
so if you have a different sim lying about or a friend on a different network give it a try i would give it a go but all my work sims went back to the office for christmas

no ,im in ireland
google brand-animation-loading apps-go to lock screen says "emergency calls only"at the bottom-after unlock the screen it goes to homescreen-when i trying to make a phone call ,it says mobile network not available
my GN says 'emergency calls' until its unlocked then it goes to the homescreen.
when you unlock the phone does it display any sort of signal strength or not?
there might be something odd with using a chinese sim card in ireland, can you try a sim card from one of the other Irish operators?

I'm thinking the reason your thread got 100+ views and not one reply is your question being the noobiest of noobs!
Anyway, the Galaxy Nexus isn't sim-locked. the "sim network unlock pin" message you're getting must be a security PIN in your sim.
Maybe not: I've a Vodafone GN and it is network unlocked with a internet purchased PIN code.
Each time I "touch" the rom, the device ask again for that unlock code.
pin code
Witch provider do U have? is your sim protected by unlock code?call your provider and ask for "PUK" code this should help.
Mine was O2 sim locked and I bought an unlock code from an ebay seller. Several weeks later it decided to sim lock itself again without provocation.
Unfortunately I had deleted the email with the unlock code so had to buy it again... Annoying.

This is an ignorant response. The OP's phone is SIM-locked.
OP, flashing a new firmware does indeed SIM relock the phone. SIM relocks can also seemingly appear randomly or after removing your current SIM card from the phone.
This is why it's important to either memorise your SIM unlock code or keep it at hand. Just re-enter your unlock code and you'll be fine.
The OP's question is certainly not a NOOB question.
This is a common problem with what apparently seems codes purchased. When you install a new ROM or make certain changes, it asks for the code to be re-entered. Nobody seems to have a solution for this yet! Upon re-entering the code, the phone will work fine.

I have this problem, but what code i need to re-entering? PIN,PUK...?
Sounds like you need to purchase a sim unlock code from an internet retailer if the code was not included with your original purchase.

If you goto fastboot (volumeup + volume down + power), what does it say in the lines of "baseband version" and "carrier info"?
aren't all galaxy nexus factory unlocked? so it should work with any network right out of box.
Unlocked phone showing same problem
Hi everyone,
Sorry to piggy back on this thread, but I thought this might be helpful.
I bought an unlocked phone (NEVER locked to any carrier) which was working fine for 3 days. Suddenly this morning, it asks for the "SIM network unlock PIN".
I have not modified the device in any way, it is original with locked bootloader, not rooted, etc.
The SIM had not been removed in the time period, and the device had not been turned off. I had it on airplane mode overnight, then it showed the problem in the morning.
Its not a simple SIM pin code, it asks me for that when I boot the device, and accepts my pin, then follows with the message above which I gather to mean it is locked to some carrier or other.
Running Android 4.0.4
Baseband: I9250XXLA2
Build number: IMM76I
Unfortunately I can't even buy an unlock code, because I don't know what carrier it thinks its locked to.
Maybe this is an indication of a deeper problem on this phone, not just related to replacement ROMS.
Any help would be appreciated.
Regards,
Jakrapup

No. People, if you don't know enough about the subject or enough to read the whole thread, don't comment. Some GSM phones are sim-locked like DoCoMo and evidently some Vodaphones and I'm sure more.
Also, there is a questions and answers forum. This isn't it.

I had same prob and used the do como solution it works 100%
I managed to sort my problem out without rooting, but it indicates something fishy is going on.
The phone was sold to me 'unlocked'. I contacted the vendor who promptly gave me an unlock code (I thought unlock codes were carrier specific... so which carrier is this code for? No idea, shouldn't even have had one!).
I'm starting to wonder if the vendor had bulk purchased locked phones from overseas (phone arrived in a french box), purchased the unlock codes, unlocked the phones, and then sold the phone on...
The vendor does tell me that the phone is supported by the local Australian warranty despite the french packaging, and the presence of an unlock code indicating it was purchased from a telco?
Anyway, problem appears to be solved, though I have no idea what triggered the lock in the first place.

Who did you buy the phone from? Was it kogan? And was the box sealed when u got it?
Sent from my Galaxy Nexus using XDA
Not Kogan,
I took a risk and bought from an Ebay store, rated as a top seller with a very high score, but you never know.
The box was sort of sealed, doubt it was the original seal. The seal was plain white, no writing or branding on it...
You get what you get with Ebay stores I guess

[Q] how to reverse sim permanently lock LG optimus LTE p930

I have purchased an LG Optimus LTE P930 phone from someone on Kijiji and the phone is locked to bell but when I go to throw a different sim card in to unlock it I get "this phone is permanently locked and can not be unlocked". is there anyways to fix this issue?
Yeah, you need to find someone who can get your NCK unlock code. I got mine from a guy on eBay for like $3. Then dial 2945#*930# and enter the unlock code you are given. Easy peasy.
You might try these guys.
it does not give me an option at type in a NCK code as soon as it turns on with wrong sim it just pop's up with that same error
I don't understand, can you not dismiss the error and continue using the phone and then type in that number I gave you? If all else fails, maybe you can remove your SIM card and dial the number that way? As I recall, I had 0 issues unlocking my phone and I didn't even have a SIM card in it when I did it if I remember correctly...
A "freeze" usually happens after too many NCK attempt, usually 10.
what you would be looking for is an "unfreeze" code.
But if your Bell SIM still works it sounds like it is a service provider lock -SPCK- which is similar to network locked.
There may be a dialer code to reset attempt count, may also be able to binary edit it.
I reocmmend trying a site like this http://www.unlockallcellular.com/lg-nitro-hd-unlock-code-p-198068.html
there may be afew other, even on ebay. I would get with one that provides a guarantee. Usually invloves taking a video of you entering code to prove if it works or not. If not they will refund your money.
be patient as it could take a day or two.
I once paid $70 to unlock my dell streak 7.
Cheers.
did you manage to fix this? I'm having the same issue
Any solution i got this same issue on my G2 D802
My at&t pantech p6020 phone is saying that sim is locked and when I try to unlock it it says the incorrect unlock code was entered ten times this phone is permanently locked and can not be unlocked. What should I do? help me please

SIM network unlock PIN

So I got my hands a new Nexus 5X from an EE retail store in UK, although I'm happy to use EE for everyday use there are times when I travel and need to swap SIMs due to black spots. Much to my horror and bemusement I discovered that my brand new 5X is indeed network locked, so there's that myth put to bed for non believers.
I have requested an unlock code from the network, unfortunately patience is not one of my strong points, does anyone know of any sites that offer an unlock for the 5X? I tried one this morning but it came back 'no code found'. If anyone knows of a site that can help, I'd appreciate a PM with the details.
Thanks.
For what is worth, I also got, from. my local carrier a brand new Nexus 5X. LG H790. Well, it turns out to be Network locked as well. Whenever the phone is turned on with the SIM in of another carrier it asks for: "SIM Network Unlock PIN"
I went on and bought online from two different companies sim unlock codes, from the first company: SimUnlock dot com was not able to found a code and after a few days, said so snd proceed to reimburse me.The second company: MasterUnlock dot com did return, very quickly (fte minutes after online purchase) a few codes, named
NCK NSCK SPCK CPCK SIMCK, tried the NCK and the SPCK as per the instructions received but none worked "unlock unsucessful", seems they are also reimbursing me.
So, I dont know whats next, as the carrier wont give out the unlock codes.
My Nexus 5X is locked to Mexico's carrier Telcel.
I have just had this exact same issue (EE UK). I didn't realise this was now a thing! I honestly thought these companies had grown up by now. but apparently not.
Has anyone come across a solution to these? If not, does anyone know if these codes are carrier specific and individual, or generic?
I'd appreciate any info anyone has on this as it's a new thing to me!

Question AT&T bootloader & Carrier lock

Well since I have found zero threads about AT&T bootloader unlock. Does anyone have any solution? Whenever I put in any other sim, it just says that unable to use any other sim apart from AT&T. So I just factory resetted my phone and blocked the device setup app from accessing the internet via the Netguard app. That's allowed me to use any SIM card apart from AT&T however it's not a permanent solution but I'd like to know my options. Any chance of me working around a carrier unlock or possibly bootloader unlock? I bought this phone outside the US, and to my stupidity I never factored in that this was also a possibility that it's carrier locked, that too with a bad standing. I tried unlocking online but it just says that there's payments overdue and that I should log into my AT&T account. Tried calling their customer service, however they're useless and unhelpful. Learned the hard way, depressed that I've kinda wasted my money. Can there possibly be a way to carrier unlock my device and bootloader unlock?
Can you return the phone? The seller should have disclosed that information and the phone will technically only be used on AT&T until it's paid off, and currently on AT&T (for 60 or 90 days before they will sim unlock)
I tried going back to the shop, they just said that there's no way that they offer returns and that I should just contact AT&T for this issue. I'm running out of options and patience. I'm basically stuck with this phone. There's really no check and balance here when it comes to these matters
