HELP!!!! WiFi connection unstable and SDCard unmounting automatically - G3 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi All,
I own a LG G3 for past 1 yr and 4 months. Every thing was fine until last month when I accidentally dropped my phone and the display cracked. Of course, touch did not work. So last week I went to an authorized LG service center to change the whole display (which involves the process of taking out the motherboard and fixing it with another display. This means the whole frame is changed). He did this process in front of me only. After the change, everything works well except for a weird WIFI problem which I never faced before the screen was replaced.
The WIFI would frequently connect and disconnect. Even in the search list, all the SSIDs would be shown occasionally and sometimes won't show up at at all. Note again, this happens with all the potential WIFI connections around, Not only with mine. In short, the WIFI search results list won't be stable.
Even if my WIFI shows up in the list and I try to connect it will show - "saved"/"disconnected"/"Disabled" status. And yes, occasionally my WIFI gets connected and internet starts working. But not for too long. Prolly the connection lasts for 5-10 mins or so. All my other devices connect using the same AP and so i don't really have a doubt on my router AP.
I visited the authorized service center again. Without even having looked at the problem he says motherboard might be the problem, and asked me to change it. Even if i persist him to have a look at the problem, he won't . My last resort is XDA
The ways I tried.
1. Factory reset.
2. Flashed roms 21A and 20P (from scratch, erased all data and caches). Still No joy.
3. Tried forgetting the network and connecting again.
4. Toggle WiFi on and off
P.S : I also have another problem of SD card getting unmounted automatically and an error message pops up as "SD Card removed unexpectedly. Please unmount SDCard before removing to prevent", but immediately a toast message comes as SD card inserted. xx.xx GB space available. This keeps on happening in a loop until SD Card wouldn't show up in File manager at all. But, this problem was there for a long time even before the screen was replaced unlike the WiFi
problem which occurred only after the screen is replaced.
I really don't know what exactly is going on with my phone. Please let me know if any of you are familiar with these problems and have solved it. Would really save a huge money for me

[Q] Wi-Fi and SIM Card issues

Hi,
I've called HTC support and having my HOX returned for repair on the basis of the following 2 issues:
1) Wi-Fi, despite showing connected, is not able to connect to any web related connections via any of the apps that require it. If you type *#*#INFO#*#* and check the WiFi status there is an IP address but if you hit the 'Test' button it fails - all other devices in the house are fine during this time. Also I noticed, when this happens the phone is not pingable from the wireless network anymore (it is pingable when phone is working) - other threads here with similar symptoms but not one with a fix for me at least.
2) SIM card randomly restarts! Since the SIM card is PIN protected the phone will then not connect to the Service Provider as it is awaiting for the PIN number - as a person who regularly needs to be on call this is a big fail as the other day proved when I woke up in the morning and saw the phone not connected but instead asking for a PIN.
My question is, has anyone else had either of the above and did they manage to get them resolved after sending the phone back to HTC? Eg. did the phone come back without said issues or what is an utter waste of time?
I guess if HTC support are a waste of time - it's time I sent the HOX to the recycle centre and get £215 for it and get something else rather then beat on a dead horse...
Thanks for the answers in advance.
J
problem 1 is a (i think) the wifi fault many HOX are having. you can test it by pressing on the back between the camera and volume rockers. Your wifi receipting should go up
2. i also had this problem when is went in a few rollercoasters and also had a bad signal. simple solution > open your simcard tray and close it firmly again. it solved my problem! i think its a combination of both

on part 1:
I am 99% sure I don't have that Wifi fault because the phone already displays 4 sometimes even 5 bars when this happens and I am within 3 to 5 meters away from the AP too - I tried the squeze thingy and if anything it drops bars sometimes...what I did do though yesterday, is to install an extender and when it happens it flips over to the extended AP (if within proximity) and carries on working - I know this because I got a timeout page error and hitting refresh it worked immediately - ps when it happens you notice that small lag where 4-5 seconds go by for the page to load...happy to live with that.
on part 2:
I swapped out what I thought might be the offending SIM for another from a different provider, in hope that by doing so it eliminates the SIM from being at fault and in this case firmly closing the lid again - but it happens with both of the 2 SIM cards - I believe this to be an issue with the SIM tray not making enough contact with the SIM card (had this with an iPhone 3GS a few years ago and the Geniuses at the 'bar' swapped it immediately for another - I understand you have better chances of winning the lottery then HTC doing this though). Anyway both SIM cards work well with the old iPhone 4 I kept as a spare and now using as a daily driver since HTC are meant to collect. If they don't show up - it's recycling time... :crying: I really like the phone but I am not the type to live with such a shortcoming (eg. SIM disconnects)
Thanks for the reply.

Nexus 5X Unable to connect to WIFI

Hello, This is my first thread in XDA DEVELOPERS.
My Nexus 5x's wifi is not connecting. 4 months ago, my phone boot looped . And I don't have any warranty. I tried every possible way to bring it back but failed. I factory reset then performed a rescue OTA Which was tough to do because the phone was boot looped. But I didn't give up. I contacted the Chinese Repairman(Mr. Huang Jinhui) via WeChat(the one Cathair2906 mentioned in his 4GB RAM upgrade article). I sent my phone to China. And the phone was fixed + the RAM also upgraded from 2GB to 4GB :highfive:. He sent me a video in WeChat that my phone has been fixed and he mentioned that there is an account lock. In his video, The WIFI was connected to his network(not even the caution mark in wifi signal). I am very happy with that. But the Chinese man couldn't go to the home screen as the phone was reset(I performed a rescue OTA after the phone was bricked that's why). My email & password was needed. But in China, Google server is disabled so he can't bypass FRP even if I give him my email & password. While everything is available in Shenzhen, China, I told him to buy me a new battery of my phone and charger and cable. He changed the battery and send me a clip. Everything was fine. But when I got my phone in my hand and tried to go next, I couldn't connect it to any WiFi Network:crying::crying: . It load and then "Unable to connect" caution appeared:crying:. My phone is in Android 7.1.2 with June Security Patch Level. So after watching some youtube videos on how to bypass FRP lock, I followed some steps and went to settings menu via Talkback option. Checked the phone memory, it shows 3.6GB Ram , that's fine. Then went to wifi option and tried to connect but still failed. Tried WPS push button, didn't work . Then one of my friends told me that since the battery has been changed, the time and date has been reset & wifi won't be connected if there is a major difference in time. I checked the date & time and it was not correct. Then I was hopeful and relaxed that if I set the time and date correctly, the wifi will be connected.
I set the current time & date from settings and tried to connect it to my wifi network......................... Still, I failed :crying:. Turned it off and on then tried again.......... still, it doesn't connect. No "Authentication Error" message appears. In WIFI Settings menu it shows just "Saved" instead of "Connected"
It's not like that my phone can't search WIFI. Everything is okay, WIFI can be turned off & on. It can search WIFI Networks. All okay, just one problem, it is not connecting.
I can't bypass the FRP lock if I can't connect my phone to WIFI. I'm facing bad time after bad time. I am so near that I am finally gonna use my beloved Nexus 5X again still I cannot because of the new found problem "Not connecting to wifi".
If anyone can help me, I will be really very very grateful.
Thanks

Verizon S8+ no mobile network

Ladies and gentlemen of XDA, I have come before you today to admit to my defeat.
I have scoured the internet and tried all kinds of fixes and such and still no luck. So hopefully someone here can help me figure out what I'm missing.
I rooted both my husband's and my G955u. Both of our phones took the root well and were performing spectacularly. Then, randomly one day, something went glitchy with my phone. For some reason or another, I ended up putting the phone in airplane mode. For the life of me I can't remember why. The airplane mode icon would not turn back off. I turned the phone off and back on. Each time, I see the signal connection icon at the top, but there are no bars filling it. I cannot call, text, or use data unless I am connected to wifi.
I unrooted and flashed back to stock. No fix. I applied other root methods. Still no fix. Factory reset, cleared cache, took sim card out. Still nothing. Sim card works fine in other devices and no sim card will work in my phone. I have flashed each and every stock (2bqk5, 2bql1, 2brb1) with no luck. Took it all the way back down to 2bqk5 and allowed ota updates all the way to 2brb1. Still nothing.
Had an error for a while that when I entered recovery mode, it would either show no command or error followed by a screen saying that it had failed to unmount my EFS. That screen isn't showing up anymore, so I somehow fixed that. My IMEI and SN are both showing and are both correct. Phone network shows unknown. Mobile network shows state as connected. Mobile network type shows as IWLAN. Not Roaming, IMS registration status is on.
I have tried to flash the combined tar file of the modem and the Nonhlos.bin I extracted from my stock bql1 files. Flashed through Odin, still no fix.
I am at a total and complete loss. I don't know what else to try. Husband's root is still intact and working great. Can anyone help a noob figure out what I haven't done yet? I'm sure I'm missing something stupidly obvious. Any and all help is greatly appreciated and stories of your epicness will be told by my children's children of the time I was saved from the purgatory that is no cell service by the heroes of XDA.

Solved on my own. Downloaded the app shortcut master and launched secret menu #27663368378. Chose options 2,1,2,3,4 and restarted phone and I had network access again. Hooray!

Was just about to post about this, I too have been experiencing those issues, difference is my phone has not been rooted. Has the issue completely resolved?
Yes. That completely fixed my issues. You may not have to root to fix the issue if you can find the right secret code to access the service mode menu. But once the nv was restored, all was golden.
This is the screen you need to get to.
wow you went through all those downloads and flashes !
This was my first time ever rooting. I had no idea what I was doing or what exactly I needed to fix it I just knew I was pissed to high heaven and refusing to pay 200 for the replacement phone they said I needed.
Originally, geek squad tried to say that I had a chip failure due to the mipi device fail that showed up on menu *#0011#. But I didn't buy it. Turns out it wasn't a hardware issue. Just the NV data being a butt. Saved me 200 bucks. I'll take 50 million menus, flashes, and downloads over that anyway. That's what unlimited data and pdanet hotspot tether is for.
What did the menu have in it? I'm having a similar problem with not connecting to the network (unroot), but on my Galaxy S7. I've tried a million things, only to find out the "MIPI DEVICE FAILED".

I have the exact same issue on my S8+, MIPI device fail and can't get any network signal. On xfinity mobile here. I can't get that menu you're talking about, I downloaded Shortcut master and launch the menu you mentioned in your first post but it won't launch. Do I have to be rooted? Please help!
Mipi device failed. change the charging port and maybe it solves it. it has happened to me with a s7 and a note 8 and I have solved it by changing the loading port

I have the same issu on my G955U at&t variant. how did you solved the problem?
I'm having this issue in this model and the menu "*#27663368378# Chose options 2,1,2,3,4 and restarted phone" didn't solve, it will be necessary to change or reconnect the charging port or other part?

SIM card recognized but no service

TL;DR
Moto Z2 Play - XT1710-07
The phone recognizes the SIM card but there is no signal (no service). Tried several things, including flashing a custom ROM. I'm considering buying a new motherboard and changing it myself, but first want to know if anyone knows more about this issue or has an idea/suggestion.
Edit: As an added bonus, something that only now I realized. Now when I charge it, it gets EXTREMELY hot. Like I-can't-even-use-it hot. I used to use the phone while charging all the time, but now I can't even hold it. Seems like the problem is when it tries go past 80% charge. It gets super slow, keeps trying and gets hot. Now I don't know if it's a software problem caused by the various flashings or if it's something that would remain even after swapping the motherboard.
Edit 2: I did a full discharge of the phone and recharged it while turned off. It seems to have normalized the battery problem
Edit 3: RIP. I tried to remove the screen before deciding about buying a new board. In the process, I ended up tearing the digitizer flat cable apart. Now I don't think it's worth it buying both a new screen and a motherboard.
The full story and things I've tried
My phone was working all nice and dandy until it stopped having signal/service. Wifi works normally, but anything related to the SIM card doesn't, like phone calls or mobile data.
A list of things I've tried somewhat in order (both of time and of complexity):
* My SIM in another phone: it works normally, so the problem is not the SIM itself
* Another SIM in my phone: it doesn't work, so the problem is definitely the phone
* Using the second SIM slot
* Changing "Preferred Network Type" between the available ones (4G, 3G, 2G, including Enhanced 4G LTE Mode on and off): this one and the next two items don't really make sense to me, since these options seem to be only related to mobile data (4G/3G internet) connection, not to phone calls which is also not working, but I tried them anyway
* Manually selecting the network: Errors with "Selected network unavailable" and, after trying to register for a while, toasts another error saying "Can't connect to the network, try again later"
* Manually selecting the APN: Tried both selecting between the two options available and manually adding an APN by googling the correct info for my carrier
* Simply booting into fastboot and restarting bootloader: a video on YouTube claimed that it was a temporary solution and that I'd need to do it every time it lost signal. But it didn't even work the first time
* Disabling CQATest and then restarting bootloader (and also clearing its data/cache and removing its permissions): a lot of videos on YouTube claimed this was a solution, including for other Motorola phones. Apparently CQATest prevents the phone from working properly in some scenarios. But I think only when you de-google your phone? Not sure. All I know is that it didn't work either
* Using the phone connected to the wall charger: I think this was another YouTube suggestion, and it actually worked for a few minutes. But I guess it was just a coincidence, as it never worked again
Now for some more... "forceful" attempts:
* Factory Reset: Not sure where I saw this suggestion, but it was pretty much the next logical step. Gathered courage, backed up all my data, etc, aaand... nothing again
* Flashing another ROM: Guess it was here at XDA that I read that it was a problem with Motorola's stock ROM. That, paired with my belief that it could still be related to CQATest being installed, I again gathered more courage to flash a custom ROM. I chose LineageOS and found out that it was no longer supported, but decided to install the last official release. I also read that the problem was the Pie modem firmware, so it all seemed to be going fine since the last official release is Oreo 8.1. I flashed it and BAM it worked! ... for a few minutes and never again. I messed around with LineageOS, tried some of the previous things again, but nothing.
Then, I tried to restore my TWRP backup but it didn't work. So I searched a bit more and downloaded the Stock Pie ROM, flashed it, and closed the bootloader. And then I realized the restore probably didn't work since my backup was made using Pie and my phone was on Oreo. Maybe some files/partitions were missing? Also, when I was creating my TWRP backups, I tried creating a full system image backup but it kept erroring. Only later I realized the problem was that the USB Drive was FAT32 and the full system image was bigger than 4GB. Oh, well, now I know.
So now that I'm with my phone pretty much back on square one, I take it to an authorized repair shop. The clerk said that it was a common problem, and that sometimes it could be solved "by software" and that they'd try that. The other option was to change the whole motherboard, which they didn't do because it was "not worth it" and "almost the full price of a new phone". After two days, my suspicions were confirmed: they didn't fix it with their "by software" attempt. At least I didn't have to pay anything.
When I got the phone back, I put the SIM in again and it showed the icon as if there was signal. But when I tried to call someone, the signal disappeared again. I tried searching a bit more, went through all pages of Q&A here at XDA forums and there were like 3 posts regarding loss of signal. All without any response. On YouTube, I found some videos offering a suspicious .bat file. Upon inspection, it merely erased the modemst1 and modemst2 partitions and then wiped user data and cache. I tried it, nothing to lose. Also didn't work.
Now I'm contemplating a few options:
By watching some disassembly videos, I saw that, when opened, the phone has some parts that act like antennas. I thought that maybe those were not properly connected to the board? Maybe they got dislodged during a fall? Seems unlikely tho, since they are screwed in. I searched for a new motherboard to buy and it's a reasonable price. But I'm afraid it'll have the same problem (or develop it in a short time) since I can't find anywhere what the true cause of the problem is.
Another option is to just give up, buy a new phone and use this one as if it was a "small tablet" lol
So, do you guys have any other suggestions or ideas as to what might be the problem? Maybe a tip like "solder a wire to this spot to create a make-do antenna"? I don't really know where else to search.
If not, thanks anyway for those who read it all

Question SM-F926U1 no longer seeing/using SIM card?

Hi everyone, just a little curious on what side of the old "metaphorical" coin my phone has fallen on. The problem this coin is concerning, is simply one related to my SIM. My phone has no cell service right now since it doesn't want to acknowledge or use the sim card it has in it. It's a 512Gb unlocked phone I special ordered upon first release, no other problems (other than the screens scratching easily) but now it's no longer working on anything other than wifi. It's the wifi that I think caused this problem actually. I just set up a new lightweight Asus RT-AX56U router to utilize two WAN ports (one built in and the other setup through a USB ethernet adapter). The problem came about after I switched down to a WPA3/WPA2 setup from a full WPA3 simply due to a connection problem one of my laptops was having (it's wifi card was one from prior to WPA3). Shortly after I did that my Z Fold 3 started having frequent wifi drop problems. After about an hour of that the connection seemed stable, then the next thing I know the phone dropped connection to both Wifi and cell network! Then after I restarted the router, only wifi would reconnect and my cell network connection has been M.I.A. ever since despite what I do (tried airplane mode, tried cache whipping it, restarting it, and finally even a full factory wipe/restart). My phone is up to date on all of it's updates (finally decided to last month after seeing that my model has no root + camera options) but nothing other than a routen cache cleaning ever happened to it prior. Just trying to figure out what my next move now should be, get a new SIM card, or is a whole new phone needed?
I would first try another sim card to see it's related to the physical card or a carrier issue. Maybe try and borrow one from another network as well.
If that fails, try a factory reset.
If that fails, it's time to reach out to Samsung.
I tried a different SIM from a different phone from the same provider (on the same contract bill). But it wouldn't register, I even factory reset it prior to trying the other SIM. So I went and got a new one from the carrier, and problem solved! (First SIM card I've ever burned out without truly trying to)
