Has anyone else noticed that you cannot change the contact photo for contacts synced with facebook? In Android 2.1 I could chose to use my google contacts photo or facebook photo or choose a new photo for anyone in my contacts, but alas now I can't seem to do that anymore. I can change the google contact photo but the facebook photo still supercedes it in the people list and when it comes up during a call.
Anyone else have this problem? Any workarounds for it?
Hack your friends' FB page?
I'm able to choose the Google photo as the default, yet once I close out of contacts and re-open them, the Facebook photo has automatically become default once again...

I do not have this problem (Running Stock OTA 2.2 odexed with ROOT). I can go into contacts select a contact and then hit menu/link then tap the picture on the top and I get a menu with these options. Gallery, Camera, Google, and Facebook. What ROM are you using, maybe do another wipe and reinstall.
I also have stock rooted. I'm getting the no Mic in keyboard as well. Some have said the restoring system data after flashing could be the cause. So maybe a flash could fix both issues. I'll try that and see how it works.

not sure if this is what you're talking about
it took me a while to figure this out but (if this is what you're talking about)...
i have the epic 4g with android 2.1.
select contact, select menu, select edit, select on picture, select 'from gallery', select photo.
if the above doesn't work, go to people and click on the "link" button in the top right, from there you should be able to select a default picture for the contact
I also have the same problem; I have 2.2 Original Andriod from HTC Desire; I change the picture with no problems; but a few minutes later, the picture returns back to the default facebook one !!!
Anyone has any issues with the image gallery's performance? every time i open the gallery, it takes a while, say a minute, before the albums show up. Sometimes they don't show up at all.
I have synced FB albums and Picasa albums. I'm not sure if that's what's causing the slow performance though.i'll be unsyncing those albums soon so hopefully that fixes the problem.
Getting this too on my stock (International) Note 2.
Very annoying.

im thinking its the synced stuff. its getting annoying. still trying to find out why. but i do think its cause of sync
yes it is caused by the synced stuff. I removed fb albums by removing fb account and adding it back in without syncing the pic gallery. it was fixed after that.
it's nice to have them synced albums. so hopefully this will be fixed in the future.
Well, I've fixed the problem on easier way, instead of remove the Facebook account just enter on the sync settings, and deselect the sync gallery option, enter the gallery, the first time is going to be slow, but next time is going to load faster.
Something to try is "quickpic" from the market. Fast, functional, free. None of the syncing crap though.
I never looked back after using it.

Make sure you don't have any images being synced through Dropbox that the Gallery is looking for. Can really slow the things down. Rather than sync your phone through Dropbox better to perform manual syncs using DropSync.
If eliminating your Dropbox sync doesn't solve the problem go through your images and make sure nothing is corrupted.

Remove the account then uninstall the app while clearing the data. Install it back and set it up without the galery sync or let it sync once then remove.
Had the same issue and turning off dropbox sync fixed it...My facebook photos appear to be syncing without issue.
I fixed it by just removing the sync in my Google account. It was syncing ALL my photos. Google back up, drive and Picassa. I also unchecked Uploading.:cyclops:
Yeah this was talked about in a few different threads when the update was first released that is rhe only fix that I know of. Unsyncing Picasa and dropbox all of them

So I've had some luck with removing Facebook and Picasa sync, but only inside the Gallery app itself. My issue is when using a 3rd party app to upload a photo already taken (Messaging, Facebook, Untappd) and the Gallery could take 10 minutes to load so I am almost always forced to take a new photo instead of uploading the one that I wanted to upload. Anyone figure out what is actually causing this issue?

My MicroSD was needing maintenance
In my case, the gallery slow performance was announcing that something was wrong with my micro SD card, I just formatted it using HP USB Disk Storage Tool disabling quick format and it resolved the issue, I copied back all my files and now the cell phone is working perfectly.
I hope it helps.
The KitKat upgrade was maybe the only TRUE improvement on my S4... With JB, the gallery was a PITA, even with syncing disabled !
Any way for this?
I don't think that's possible.
The only way to do it will be manually I guess. After you tap (enlarge) on a friend's pic on WhatsApp, the image is stored in the WhatsApp/Profile Pics folder in your sdcard. Open that image and set it as the contact image.
I don't think auto syncing from WhatsApp to Contacts is implemented yet. Can't even think of a 3rd party app doing so.
So, I have a peculiar issue with my S3. When I add a google account, it asks me what all I want to sync to my phone (calendar, gmail, picasa albums etc.) and I have unchecked the picasa and google photos box there. Still, when I open the gallery, I see all my picasa albums there. Is there a way some different way to stop the phone from syncing the picasa albums? This is happening with my 3 different google accounts. I only want the gallery to have local pictures and not the ones associated with my gmail account. Is there a way to do this? Am I missing something?
Thanks for your help.
I too hate this... and there is no way to stop default gallery app from syncing... even with sync disabled in settings.
1. Get an app like TiBu that can freeze apps.
2. Freeze Gallery app and unfreeze it only when you need to change lock screen image.
3. Install some app like QuickPic to replace gallery.
There is a process call Picasa Uploader. Try freezing it and see if that helps. Am not sure on this though.
Even after not choosing to sync photos from your google account, somehow it still shows in your gallery.
Here's the fix for this.
Setup your Google account with photos not checked to sync (as u know even after this, photos still shows in gallery).
Then go to "Application Manager", "All", in "Gallery", choose "Clear data".
This will clean the thumbnails, not your actual photos. If you chose to uncheck photo sync from Google, it will not appear again. Must be a bug with the OS synching with google. Hope this helps.

additionally, (depending on your rom) you can go into your gallery, hit menu and select what photos/albums you want showing up there. you should be able to select just the albums on the device.

make sure sync for the picasa albums is still off, then go into Settings > Application manager. select the All tab, find Gallery and hit the clear data button. next time you open the Gallery, it will take a moment to rebuild it but the picasa albums should finally be gone.

That worked like a charm. Thanks!
I actually don't mind this but it is annoying that it scans every folder for pictures. I end up seeing random album art in mine. Is there way to stop that?

throw a .nomedia file in the folders you don't want showing up in your gallery.
I have recently updated my Note II to Cyanogen 11.
It is working well except for one odd problem I have
noticed, which is that the new photos that I take on
my phone do not sync to Facebook the way the used
to on my previous Roms. The sync is definitely turned
on in the Facebook app, I have tried uninstalling and
removing the Facebook account on the phone, and
re-downloading from Play Store, and installing again,
and it still is not working. This is a minor problem, as
I can always upload the pictures individually that I want
up on Facebook, but it was convenient to have that
sync in the background, and I'd like to get it back.
Any suggestions on how to fix this?
