Hey,
So you may have heard, uk users can now change from @googlemail.com to @gmail.com but now I'm having problems after having do so.
I keep getting errors saying gtalk can't sign in. I don't really use gtalk but it would be nice for it to actually work if I wanted to.
How do I change the main google account to @Gmail.com instead of @Googlemail.com without doing a software reset?
Hi Brummiesteven
There are 2 ways to change the details of your Google account on your phone.
1) Try this (taken from Sizzledcore.com):
Open Menu, and go to Settings.
Select Applications and then go to Manage Applications.
Look for the app “Google Apps” and tap it.
Now tap the “Clear data” button.
Now, in the Notifications (top of the screen) you will see a new notification.
Tap “Your account must be updated”.
Now enter your new Google account info.
Reboot your phone and you’re all done!
2) Change your Google password on a PC and reboot your phone, which should then ask you re-input your Google login details.
Have Google actually made the option available to change to gmail.com?
I know they released a statement saying you will be able to soon but I think you will need to change it somewhere online first before it will work on your phone.
I'm just guessing here by the way.
Make soft reset, I had the same problem and it helped me.

Login to googlemail.com, settings > accounts. Next to your @googlemail.com there's a small link saying chance to @gmail.com?
After you've done so you get a free set of stickers

Same. Seems the only option is to do a reset of the phone. I'll wait untill I've got an hour free as I'd need to install all my apps again. Don't need to worry about my contacts as those are all online.
I just ended up doing a reset of my phone after changing from Googlemail to Gmail. Pretty annoying as I now have to reinstall all my apps and re-link contacts to their Facebook / Twitter / Flickr accounts.
I was also hoping that this might have fixed the Picasa gallery syncing; it hasn't. The options just disappeared under the Google Account settings.
I changed mine to gmail.com but when I log into gmail on my PC it still says @googlemail.com
I still seem to be getting emails through on my Desire but now I get a warning every so often that Google Talk can't connect or something.
I don't even know what Google Talk is, I've never used it as far as I know.

I had to change it twice on the pc before it actually took affect. Try that.
Google Talk is a google IM, however it has to be configured correctly or you wont be able to access the Market Place as I've heard they use the same login.
You can just add the gmail addy as a 2nd account and untick the original googlemail account in the sync settings.
Works a treat without having to reset.
I had to change to @gmail.com twice, but then it stuck.
I reset my phone and I now get Picasa albums in Gallery 3D.
Ah, the changing it twice thing seems to have made my account change online.
I had to change mine twice too!!
Glad there is already a thread on this, previous ways of changing the Google account on Android don't seem to work on the Desire
Stuff that has been suggested which doesn't work:
Go to manage applications, find "Google Apps" and clear the data
Doesn't work, clear data button is greyed out
Go to manage applications and clear the data for everything Google related
Doesn't work, have cleared data for Google Talk, Google Mail, Google Mail Storage, reboot phone, just carries on as normal
Change Google password online
Doesn't work, just prompts for new password, not user account
On mine, all Google mail, Calendar and Contacts seem to be syncing fine without me changing anything, need to confirm all of that. But sending mail from my phone DOES send as gmail.com.
The only thing that is affected is Google Talk. For a start, I dis-abled this and signed out of it, but it obviously likes to stay signed in anyway, because it keeps coming up with a prompt in the notification bar that it failed to sign in, no option to change anything
Why the hell is it still trying to sign in? Might just remove it!!
I just rebooted and now my gmail doesn't work at all. It just says no connection when I go to the gmail app.
Wish I never changed to gmail.com now lol
It seems to all sync OK but I just get this "No connection" error in the gmail app.
Wow i think I will hang fire on this until we have a proper process. Cant believe google didnt send out instructions for android users.
Really good news about the Picasa albums though - that was really annoying me.

You can change it back untill you get something sorted.
I still seem to receive email. The gmail app only seems to load half my inbox though and shows a "No Connection" error half way down the screen with a 'Retry' button on it. I click that, it tries to connect but doesn't.
So to sum up. It works but I have an annoying thing half way down my inbox.

Yep, that's sorted it.
Don't think I'll be changing it again any time soon!
I have a Desire Z. Everything seems to work well on it but whenever I take a pic with the phone camera it doesn't save to the gallery and then it'll randomly show up weeks to months later. Has anyone had this problem?
Also, When I add a new contact to my phone, it doesn't save it under "people". It's saved in some random area of the phone accessable by searching for the name. Any ideas?

Are you using the stock gallery? If so, I would download QuickPic from the Market as a replacement. The stock gallery has a way of mishandling my media, but QuickPic is near flawless.
With the contacts issue... I have no idea. Are you saving to google - not to phone? How long since you've replaced your SIM card?

I am using the stock picture gallery. I will try DLing quick pic and give that a try.
I'm not sure if it's saving to google not to phone. Is there any way to check that? If I type in a persons name it will show their contact info but if I just go to the people icon and look through the list it won't show them. It's like their hidden contacts.......

You won't be disappointed with QuickPic.
As far as contacts, I'm not really sure where the setting is with regard to saving to google versus phone. It does sound like your contacts are on phone only at this time. If you go to Settings > Accounts > Google is there a box ticked to Sync Contacts? If not, enabled it for sure. I do know that when I "add a contact" I am prompted with the option to save to google (synced) or save to the phone only. Of course, I always choose google.
Perhaps try googling "how to move contacts from phone only to google sync on Android?" Or something like that...
lots say its a bug, appears after GB OTA.
im using quick Pic. solves my problem, faster than stock gallery/sense gallery.

I DL'ed QuickPic, thank you! Great app, solved my missing pictures problem
And you were right, my contacts were being saved to google which wasn't checked off to be shown on my contacts list. So I clicked to add google contacts to list and problem solved.
Thanks for your help
Hi all,
I have rooted my Galaxy Nexus using Nexus Root Toolkit, so far so good, but the problem is with People application. I have few accounts connected together (facebook, hotmail, linkedin, skype, ..) and once I link some contacts from these sources, I would like to choose which photo to use as the contact photo. Before root, there was an option once you clicked the photo, the popup "use this photo" appeared. After root, I only hear the click action, but can't see any popup. I don't really believe it has something to do with the rooting, but more with restoring the full backup. Not sure anyways.
Honestly, I don't want to factory reset at all, any chances someone could help here?
Thanks in advance.
OK, seems like my bad here, if I have some contacts not connected to Google Contacts as well, there is no chance to change the picture. On the contacts linked with google ones, I can change the picture. Problem solved.
Hy,
anyone saw that the new gallery update brings "Browse your photos and videos in the cloud" functionality?
Now I sure dont see any option for this but at night I got a notification from Coud that "duplicates has been deleted"...
I dont know where I can find this features, but I sure dont want any photos/videos uploaded to cloud without my permission... So if anyone have any info on this, I would really appreciate it.
Best regards
X2
I have an htc one m7 that I just updated to the latest version, after a reboot it shows the same message "gallery cloud" duplicate... etc
It didnt ask for my permission, I have the htc sync disabled, cant seem to find the option to disable this POS. Not happy.
I just noticed this morning the same behavior. I am trying to find out where this service is coming from, why it is running without my permissions and why it is putting my personal information in the cloud somewhere and I don't know where or how to get it, shut it off, or change it. It has really pissed me off to no end. I am hoping someone has an idea.
Just came here looking for the same answer.
A bit of a **** move if HTC is uploading peoples pics without asking first!!
I've emailed HTC via the play store app and asked how do we turn this feature off. I'll post if I get an answer...
Chiming in. just saw this, not pleased. I'm thinking of disabling the app till a solution is found.
I might bin it too, don't want this feature using up my data allowance...I've got about 4000 pictures on my phone...
yea wtf
Same issue. my phone keeps giving me a Cloud Gallery notification every 10 minutes or so saying it deleted duplicate photos. What in the world HTC was thinking, we may never know. But they need to let us turn this off because I show it using my data. Not cool HTC.
To add to it, I open my gallery and its cycling through all of my photos. Constantly. I click a folder, then the 'highlights' starts fast-cycling through every single photo in the folder. Not like a preview as it used to (which was annoying). This needs to stop. As someone else mentioned, I also have thousands of photos on my phone and this is driving me nuts.

HTC Cloud Gallery does not upload any of your files to the cloud. It only indexes whatever you have on Dropbox, GDrive, FB, Flickr, only after you have agreed to link to those sites. If you see photos found by Cloud Gallery, those could be uploaded by Dropbox or GDrive automatically. You need to check their settings. Again, Cloud Gallery is a "read only" indexing service.
Started getting the same notification since the last few days -- and the worst part is that there doesn't seem to be a setting anywhere in the gallery app or in the system settings allowing to configure this "Cloud Sync" or turn it off all together.
And now I really don't know if my pictures got "synced" somewhere in someone's cloud Really annoying. Uninstalled the gallery app altogether with Titanium Backup root uninstall.

I have the same issue. Haven't found a solution yet but I wanted to let you know that freezing/uninstalling gallery will stop the cloud syncs but there are side affects.
I froze it and all seemed normal until I tried to set a contact image. Freezing gallery somehow disrupted the ability to link images to contacts. I tried it from within the contact app and through a third party gallery app and it wouldn't work either way. I had to defrost the HTC gallery in order to set the contact image.
There maybe other side affects but that was the only one that I ran into.
So as the title says, I have a family member who recently passed away over the weekend. The family is trying to access his phone for any pictures and videos of him with everyone. As of right now, we don't have any info about his Google account info. We're afraid to keep trying passwords in case it ends up wiping the data after a certain number of tries. I tried using Dr. Fone but the unlock software doesn't support this phone. Not sure what to do from here but I thought you guys might be able to help. Thanks, guys.
perhaps contact the local police to inquire if they have the capability to unlock the phone? They will probably require that you prove your relationship to the deceased which I don't think anyone on this forum could do. It's not that I don't believe you, but any creeper/theif/etc could say the same thing.
GL and sorry for your loss.
Sorry for your loss. If he had 2 step verification where you can send a text message to his cell phone #, you could do a Sim swap, pop the Sim in a phone that you have access to. Trigger the 2 step verification for forgot password and it might work.

I'm so sorry for your loss, and Hope you'd recover the content without much of a hassle.
Good Luck!
You can force a factory reset...that will delete apps and texts and any unsaved pics from texts will be deleted....BUT....it will not delete any pics taken by the cam and saved to the phone.
Good luck and sorry for your lost.
Was he logged into Gmail on a computer? Could possibly go to Google Photos and check for backed up photos and videos.

sorry for your loss, I hope you can recover the photos.
1st: was already mentioned. sim swap
2nd: Try to sign into their google account. If you know their gmail (you should be able to figure this out pretty easily) and know them pretty well you can probably guess their password especially if you can remember an "old" password they've used because people are creatures of habit and reuse the same or variations of the same passwords for years. Or you can do the "forgot password" option
3rd have the legal rep ask google.
Google lets third parties request the content from a deceased user's account, but this must be requested by the deceased person's legal representative. The legal representative must upload a copy of their government-issued ID and a copy of the death certificate. Even then, there's no guarantee the legal representative will gain access.
If this works, the legal representative would be able to access data from the deceased user's Drive, Gmail, Blogger, Google+, Google Photos, YouTube and other services. But again, if the deceased user didn't back up any photos in the first place, getting into the cloud backup won't do any good.

4th: okay, this one is a little macabre and you said password but I have 2 methods to get into mine so I figure I'd say it......sigh.............somehow before the funeral 1) find a way to be alone with your relative and see if either of their index fingerprints will work to unlock the phone OR 2) I GUESS you COULD ask the funeral director to unlock their phone using their fingerprints but I'm not sure how agreeable they'd be on that one.. Look, I know it's creepy but if the photos/vids are important then......sigh.....damn it sounds even more eff'd up reading it than it did in my head. Okay, sorry, I'll stop now....
good luck
First of all, I'm sorry for your loss...
I have some inquiries, and then a suggestion...
First, do you know if the former owner had "unlocked" or "rooted" the phone/device? When you turn the device on, is there a warning in the powering up process that "warns" about having an "unlocked bootloader"?
If it is unlocked and/or rooted, there are more/further options that can be done, but only if it is in this "state"...
And as for my suggestion...
You might be aware of how Apple and iPhones/iPads have a sort of "find my iphone" or "find my device" type of connection and protocol on their devices... I've personally used the "Android"/Google version (called Android Device Manager [or ADM for short]) of this to find the last location of my phone and to also ring it. But I have also noticed that they (Google) are constantly evolving it and later added a "lock" option. So, taking it a step further, I checked if there was possibly an "unlock" option; and there is! Again, I personally have never used it and do not know much about it. After some cursory reading, there are certain criteria that has to have been met while the original owner was using the phone; but if, by some amazing circumstance or miracle, things have been set up properly (and you know the deceased google account information/login), there's a good chance you might be able to get the phone unlocked. You can find the information all about this here: https://one.comodo.com/blog/itsm/unlock-your-android-device-using-android-device-manager.php
One additional thought I just thought of while writing this, along the lines of talking to Google and explaining the situation, even if you don't have the google account information/login, you might be able to obtain that information from them if the situation is explained and they have protocols for this type of situation.
Again, I'm sorry for your loss, and I hope this helps. Good luck to you...
