Hey Zenfoners
Happy with my phone but I have a problem with battery usage.
I'm using GSam Battery Monitor and Kernel (Android OS) under App Usage seems very high.
For example today the phone has used 26% in 5h 45m with 30 minutes of screen on time. Screen usage shows 18%
But App Usage is 56% and 48% of this is Kernel (Android OS). CPU usage for Kernel (Android OS) is 4h 10m. And the phone has only been on for 5h45m.
I can't check what is keeping wake lock because I don't have root.
On idle using wifi it is using 2-3% per hour when my LG G3 and Note 3 use about 1.5% per hour on idle.
Anyone else have this problem?
I'm glad I found your post. Highly frustrating with my zenfone 2. Massive battery drain with google apps and Android OS. Yesterday or it was Google Backup Transport, today it's some other google stuff. Would love to know how to properly debug this stuff. I tried disabling most of pre-loaded Asus stuff but who knows what's causing battery drain. I can lose over 1% of battery PER MINUTE.
I just did a factory reset and added these apps:
GSAM Battery
Dolphin browser
LINE Messenger
Touchpad keyboard
Google Inbox
Google Translate
Google Keep
Android OS is still being crazy. Amazing that you can buy a brand new phone and it fails almost out of the box, and it seems the OS developer is at fault. No wonder people are switching to iPhone!

So I installed a system update adorable through the menu which seems to be helping now. Android OS still seems the biggest battery drain but at least the drain isn't outrageous like it was before. There's a discussion about the fix on reddit about it:

Were you rooted before? For the 1st "Battery Used by App" screenshot?
I've not been rooted so on the latest s/w update. Haven't seen behaviour like this on any of my recent devices. Terrible battery usage when idle, and all my Google settings (location, backup, etc) are the same.
Well i almost get at 100% of battery status of battery life almost 3 days.
Firmware : 2.15.40.13 Pre-rooted system.img by Shakalaca
Xposed module for ZF2 installed + Greenify (Donate) app
Basically i geenifed all system apps {some you cant greenify) including power saver app which is build in + normall apps.
I will add SS when i will charge battery to 100%.
I cant understand why people gettin device discharging after 6 hours etc.
Follow my guide : http://forum.xda-developers.com/zenfone2/help/how-to-upgrade-cn-version-to-ww-t3101556 to update to the latest WW OTA
Xposed : Here
I'm on the latest WW firmware but I shouldn't have to root, greenify etc. Didn't do it on my Note 3/HTC One/LG G3. What's the point in having 4GB of RAM if you're flushing it every few minutes. I do have location settings and history on, as they were with previous phones, but everything else is very conservative. Zenfone 2 is the only one that shows crazy Android OS usage with same apps and same sync/backup/location etc settings. All on Android 5.0 too!

How you can compare different phones according to the battery life if they were made in different technology and they using Snapdragons not Intel components.
Thats wrong mate
If you moaning about battery life in ZF2 you should compare it with diff zenfones ( ZF5,ZF6 etc.) or other Intel based devices
Note 3 was an Exynos.
So Intel = still bad then
I haven't rooted or anything. Battery life is now acceptable but Android OS is still near the top, but nothing crazy like it was before the system update. Does your build number match mine? I have the TW phone, so I assume TW software.
Battery graph shows almost continuous usage with screen almost always on.

Same build number except for ASUS_Z00A (1.8 ghz 4gb RAM) model.
Well ROOT + XPOSED + GREENIFY = 8 Days show battery )
From 23:00 at previous day i left phone with turned on WiFi . Overnight for 9h it drained 4% of the battery so chart is correct.
I fix my battery drain in this way:
Install all OTA updates
Factory Reset.
Reinstall All.
Battery drain seems to be only if you install an OTA without Factory Reset and with all apps already installed.
It take several hours to reinstall all ... but it works !
No more battery drain here !
I done a wipe cache instead of factory reset. You reckon it's the same thing or would I get better results v so th reset? Currently getting 5-6 hours sot with 2.3ghz 4g2g ram. Thanks

I hope you're right!
I did factory reset, install OTA update, and reinstall all. Had one good day. Today, I've lost 6% in about 30 minutes. Even more amusing, the biggest consumer is Wi-Fi ... Which isn't even turned on! Crazy stuff.
I think this'll be the 4th time re-installing stuff now. Good times!

I think that dont help, i do that 2 time with out change battery drain. I saw also that deepsleep is very low. Most of the time it rum at 500mhz and need sometimes more then an hour to go to deepsleep.

Well mine last about 15 hours then down. With same setting
Hey there all. If you're still having high android os usage it could be due to calendar storage constantly waking up your phone, check out my post in another thread -> http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=62730039&postcount=21
it is still lolippop 5.0???
I have a SM-T800 on CM12.1 that averages a current drain of around 60 mA during deep sleep. I also have a OnePlus One that averages around 9 mA during deep sleep.
I'm using Battery Monitor Widget Pro with the "Android mA" setting to get my readings on the SM-T800.
Obviously, there's quite a difference there. The SM-T800 draws almost 7x as much current while it's doing nothing - no screen on time.
It makes me think that there must be something I can do to reduce the current drain, especially with a rooted device. But, I haven't been able to figure out what.
Has anyone been successful getting their battery drain lower? If "yes", what have you done?
Thanks,.
¿GJ?
Did you forget the thread you made 2 weeks ago.

John.
Yeah, @Tinderbox (UK), but since the title was messed up I didn't think folks were looking/responding/searching to the older thread.
I think this is still something we can all benefit from, if someone has figured out a way to get our power consumption down. And if someone does respond back to this thread, other folks will be able to find it when they search now.
I use Euphoria OS and debloat it, that gives me a few weeks of standby if it's just sitting on a shelf. Ensure you delete Trebuchet (replace with Nova/Apex/etc) as it sucks a huge amount of CPU power when idle.
If you can run without GApps you'll maximize the savings.
As i said last time my T800 only used 1-2% in 16hours what ma does that work out too, the battery is 7900mah
7900mah/100 =79/16*2=9.8mah
Every time you install an app, it can make an huge difference, if it stops your tablet from sleeping.
You need to check your wakelocks to see which apps are keeping your tablet from going into deep sleep, auto check for emails, sync, alarms will cause your tablet to come out of deep sleep.
John
Thanks, @Tinderbox (UK).
As a test, I decided to wipe out my current installation, and just load the latest Nvertigo SM-T800 ROM and the very minimal nano Open GApps. I had to load a few minor things beyond that to get functional (KeePass Droid, Opera, MyBackup Pro, Wakelock Detector). I disabled all Google account sync items.
I disabled Trebuchet wake-ups, and set autostart off (Thanks, @fraser.dk)
I'm still seeing about 1% drop every 4-5 hours.
Nothing stood out from Wakelock detector. After 24 hours of the tablet sitting idle, the wakelocks were all less than 30 each.
Are you running a specific ROM or Kernel?
I am on the Stock UK v4.4.2 kitkat rom, I have never flashed though i am rooted.
If you are rooted, try the app in the link below, it link to XDA and you can download a version of cpu spy reloaded, it works great at spotting wakelocks it`s the only wakelock detector i use now.
I am running an Sony App that is supposed to stop all wakelocks, it`s in standby mode, you can whitelist apps if you like, I am not certain if it`s doing anything at the moment, you need root and exposed installed.
http://www.xda-developers.com/optimize-battery-life-with-this-useful-app/
A 1% drop over 5-6 hours is not bad.
John.
So i have an result on the Sony Battery App, I put my Tab S into sleep mode at approx 12:30AM it was at 69% , I woke it up at 6:50pm, it was still on 69% after 17hrs.
Click the link below, to see an screenshot of GSam Battery Monitor.

for me i have downgraded back to stock kitkat 4.4.2, debloated, rooted and xposed installed, and use powernap, i can use the tablet all day and still have between 45% - 60% battery left depends on if i am playing games or not... i have tried so many apps and custom roms in lolipop and none of them have good battery life....
PowerNap which is the Sony app i use, only reduce battery drain in sleep mode, by stopping all wakelocks, it does not reduce the power that games or other high drain app require, so how does you battery last longer, how much power were you loosing overnight when you tablet should have been sleeping it must have been immense.

on kitkat i had no major battery drain, i just like having powernap on my device... on LP like i say even just using the tab battery would drain like 1% every min... just doing typical web use... i have tried everything to get good battery life on LP but nothing works for me at least.. but with KK i have no issues...
A lot of people say they have had no problems with lollipop, but there is an significant number that have reported problems after upgrading, I decided to stick with kitkat and await android m.
1% a minute just browsing that`s bad.

I think I'll try going back to KitKat, and see how things go.
I have been frustrated on how fast the battery drains when doing minimal tasks, like reading an ebook (about 1% drain a minute).
Downloading KitKat from Sammobile now.

Bummer.
I installed the Canadian stock KK ROM (T800XXU1ANJ6_T800XAC1ANI1_HOME.tar.md5) onto my US SM-T800, and it's boot-looping.
I thought I should be able to load the Canadian version without any problem.
Is there a way to turn the tablet off when it is bootlooping? I don't want the battery to drain while I'm downloading another ROM.
Try this to stop boot loop.
Step 13 of post 3.

Thanks, @Tinderbox (UK)!
Out of the bootloop now, and setting up KK.
What do you do to prevent OTA updates? I have TWRP installed via the All-in-One Auto Root.
If you are rooted you will not get ota updates, if you are not freeze the updater an tab s owner did that with an app called "package disabler" it works without root but the free version keeps being removed from google play store, the full version is £2 (£1.50) just reduce.
John.
@Tinderbox (UK) WHAT KITKAT ROM YOU ARE USING ????
stock UK kitkat rom v4.4.2, Lollipop has been out for my T800 10.5" for an couple of months, but it is full of bugs, and quite a few people have went back to kitkat.
Kitkat has been solid for me, I ran it for 164 days continually, I never rebooted or shutdown in that whole time, no problem at all.

Hello. I've recently installed CM 13 on my phone (great ROM btw thx devs). The Android OS drain of the stock ROM has gone away and the performance is much better. It also uses approximately 3%/min when being used with medium load. However, the idle battery drain is atrocious (I believe this also applies to the stock ROM). The phone uses about 5% every hour when connected to 3G (displaying 4~5 bars), Bluetooth and WiFI on. Because of this, the battery life suffers greatly.
So the questions that I have are:
1. What cause this battery drain? Google Play Services? With clean flash, no Gapps, nothing installed doesn't have this drain. So I'm suspecting it's to do with Google Play Services or the background processes being managed incorrectly.
2. Is there a way to fix it? Custom Kernels? Amplify? (I know that you're supposed to clean flash and provide logs to devs, but the thread is more about how to fix it so yeah)
Thank you in advance!!
Battery drain happens mostly from Google Apps and Facebook and Messenger. I uninstalled most of Gapps and Facebook and installed Greenify, PowernNap, Amplify and the battery drain is gone.
