Hi, I just got my second Nexus 5x. The first one worked perfectly with my Airtel 4g sim card. But this new Nexus I got shows no sim inserted after a random time. The sim works perfectly when I insert it. But after like 4-5 hours I observe that the phone is showing no sim inserted. Only way its solved is if I take out the sim and reinsert it. Then again after some time I notice it's showing no sim. The sim is perfect because I used this sim with the other Nexus for a week.
Did anyone else face this kind of issue?

I just bought a Nexus 5x and I am facing a similar issue. It worked fine when I initially installed it and then it reported no sim. And I have been struggling to get it back on... For now I am going back to my Nexus 5... phew! I hope this is just a temp problem.

There was a similar thread before and I had this problem before and so did a few other people. My problem stemmed from using a cut micro SIM that I cut down to nano size. The card was too thick or something and I was getting that intermittent issue. My solution was to get a real nano SIM card. I haven't had that problem since.
I don't know if you're using a trimmed SIM card or not, but if you are, I would suggest either getting a real nano SIM or sanding the trimmed one down to where it's not as thick.

I had the same problem and replacing it with a nano SIM solved the issue.
Thanks for the input guys. I've a proper nano sim not cut out one. I haven't experienced the problem again since last night. Keeping my fingers crossed.

Same issue here with a cut sim - worked fine after replacing it with a real nano SIM.
Even if you have a real nano SIM it may be worth asking your provider for a replacement - the phone seems to be a lot fussier than any other phone I have used in the past when it comes to SIM cards.
Got a brand new nano sim today. Still the same problem. No sim after an hour. Guess the device is faulty. Gonna return it to Amazon.

Can someone tell me for certain (someone who has the phone or has opened one up), tell me if the Galaxy Nexus has a micro sim slot or not? I can't seem to find a straight answer anywhere...
No, normal SIM.
Just look at the instructional videos straight from google. It does not have a micro SIM. It has a standard (what we think of as standard is actually "Mini") SIM.
Remember though, you can put a micro SIM in a mini SIM slot. You just need a small plastic adapter to make it seat properly.

The Galaxy Nexus definitely takes a normal sim card. The confusion may have arisen over phones4u sending out micro sim cards with new orders but this was a mistake and a standard sim card is the only one that will work in there.
Mark.

Well like I said above, a micro SIM will work if you use an adapter. The adapters allow you to slot a micro SIM into them and provide extra plastic around them to be the size of a mini SIM.
The slot in the phone is most definitely a standard SIM slot though.

Not entirely true, it is possible to balance/wedge the microsim on the contacts and have a working phone

Well that would have been ok then IF an adapter had been supplied with the micro sim but as it wasnt then its totally useless lol.

Yes I agree that wedging random things in sim slot is bad idea, however....
If you happened to be like me and have tons of random mobile crap or sim leftover items like the cards that are credit card sized which house the original micro-sim often, then some of them have an actual cutout of a larger sim original size sim to be more clear which is popped out then the micro-sim is popped out of that piece. It's a backup/cheap way I figured for companies at one time to make sims and ship them out in one pack/card then when the user gets their phone and they match up what sim size they need they have both options....or I could be very wrong who knows.
Any ways, my point is simply that one of those leftover housings of a original size sim that you might have popped out a micro-sim from for another phone can come in handy as all you do is simply place your current micro-sim in the gap where another one used to be and it kind of even snaps into place then you have a bootleg like adapter for micro to original size sim. I don't know it worked me on my i9250 gsm world nexus and verizon.
normal aim
use adaptor

I'm hopefully getting a One X next week and it's just occurred to me that I'll need a Micro Sim card for it. I have a regular sim at the moment in my Sensation. I'm on the O2 network at the moment, will they give me a micro sim if I call into one of their stores, or is it just as easy to cut mine down to size?
Got mine from Virgin mate they sent me a new card i had to ring em tell them to activate my new sim so I guess itll be the same for you
Sent from my HTC One X using Tapatalk 2
cutting the sim card is not recommended, because from my personal experience cutting the sim card MAY work for some time but with crappy signal, because when you cut the sim card a part of the copper part will be damaged which will result in bad signal followed by the termination of it. so i recommend that you get the micro sim
hope i helped.
I ordered a sim card cutter from Amazon. I had NO ISSUES AND NO DAMAGE to the sim card. If you do it correctly it's a non issue.
HTC One X running Viper ROM and Faux kernel....
Used sim cutter.
o2 will give you one if you request it
I just did mine a couple of hours ago with scissors - didn't cut any of the copper/metal. Working no problem so far.
Vodafone sent me a regular sim with the phone for some strange reason so I cut it down and works a charm!
No, I didn't. Just purchased a new micro sim card, with my number.
Same here. Popped in to my local Vodafone store, and for a small fee exchanged my regular sim for a micro sim, which was live in under five minutes. They even offered to move all my contacts over, but as they're backed up I gracefully declined
I'm using mine from the iPhone 4.

Yes, I cut my own without issue. If possible, practice on an unneeded card before cutting the real one. It is quite easy.

I cut mine with scissors, although I own a SIM cutter now which has been helpful for others.
Cutted mine and have no issues

It's very easy to cut down the card with a pair of scissors. Just make sure to mark the correct size first.

with mts in russia they changed it without any problem.
i cutted 2 sims in italy in the same vodafone shop but first time they cutted a piece of metal contact.... still working but with some signal loosing
I used a simple DIY cutter

Hello, my phone is no longer reading that I have a sim card inserted. Does anyone know of a fix for this?
Have you cleaned the contacts on the sim or checked if the pins of the reader are not broken?
Sent from my GT-P3110 using xda app-developers app
What would the pins look like broken? and the sim card works in my other phones.
Fixed it. The SIM card tray( the metal top) was not pushing the sim card down far enough.

I had the same problem, i had to place a small piece of cardboard paper folded in two to keep the sim down.
How did u fix yours?
Basically I bent the metal down. I'll need to try your trick tho on my galaxy nexus.

It was weird with mine. I was JUST using it to make a phone call and get on Facebook and I did a reboot and then BLAM...No SIM card?? SO I found this thread and what I did was use an old nano SIM card from another phone that was deactivated. Put my SIM in the reader and then placed the old NANO (you could use another Micro SIM too I guess) right on top of that reader and snapped the cover back on. PERFECT...It needs just enough to press the SIM down onto the gold pieces to read the SIM...NO problems so far...
I have been using the Korean LG G3 for a while with my AT&T sim card and I did not have any problems up till now. I have pulled the sim card out and put it back it multiple times now and it will still not be recognized. Does anybody have any ideas on what I should do? Thanks in advance!

Try getting a new sim card, and go from there. The issue could be that your sim card is old, or your phone does like it anymore for whatever reason. Alternatively you could try the same sim in another phone if that's an option.

Thanks for the quick reply. I have actually already switched the sim card and it is working on my other phone. So I am pretty sure something is wrong with my phone not the sim card. I have also reset my phone one time. Still nothing. Any Ideas?

You could back it up and do a hard reset this isn't ideal, but it usually fixes things.

Check the slow where you put your sim card into and see if any don't look like they are contacting the card. I wouldn't mess with them, because they are fragile just look.

I looked at the pins and I'm guessing those are the ones in the top of the slot. It seems like two pins to the very right are not touching the card.

I have the same problem in my skandinavian (international (unlocked)) i think it has something to do with the boot speed(fast boot) because i got it to work when i backed my phone up and it rebooted but it always happens again when you just pull your battery out when the device is still on i factory reseted and it fixed it self permanently
I'm having a similar issue as well with the Verizon version. It won't read a micro sim (the one that was activated in it) but it will read a nano sim that I have placed in an adapter to make it fit. Both sims are Verizon, active, and have different numbers. I have no idea what the issue could be.
EDIT:
It seems as if a pin or two weren't making contact with the sim card. After putting a little piece of 3M tape on the sim card, it created enough contact and all is well.

I have the exact same problem if i put a micro sim card it wont read but if i put a nano sim with a sim tray it will work...any solution..
I know this is an old thread, but I wanted to post an update just in case someone else was having this problem. I ran into it with my VS985 a few weeks back. First it was just not reading my sim, but then got worse and wouldn't read any sim I put into it. I was able to correct it by slightly adjusting the pins on the sim reader. I took needle nose pliers/ a knife and gently bent them up a bit. After doing so the phone immediately read my sim card.
I hope this helps someone else if they encounter the same issue.
I have a similar problem. My G3 only accepts and sees one sim card, the one from my old provider. With all other sim cards there is the message "no sim card detected". I tried different working sim cards, no of them are being detected. I switched my provider a few weeks ago and since the problem exists. Before everything was fine.
I also tried adjusting the pins a little bit but so far nothing helped..
OK, I have the same issue: my G3 shows "no sim card" message. The solution is to replace the sim card/microsd slot. However, my phone is not covered by warranty anymore and the incredible honest guys here in Brasilia (Brazil) want to replace the whole main board and charge me for it. So, I'll have to replace that slot by myself. I bought two slots on eBay (search for "lg g3 sim card slot"). Micro soldering is not an easy thing, but there are some videos online that can help. And, if necessary, you can always look for a repair shop to do it for you, providing the piece (the slot). Until the slot replacement, you can try this, it's working for me: I noticed that if you ever accomplish to start the phone normally, you should never power it off to keep it going on! It seems that the sim card is "checked" only at boot time. (I managed to keep my phone connected to the operator for days, but after a stupid friend of mine restarted it, the error came again). To help getting a successful boot, with no sim card errors, I suggest to firmly press the sim card/microsd against the phone while it is starting, from the moment you release power button until the lock screen is shown. This proved to be very reliable, at least for now.

Thanks! This worked for my Sprint LG G3. Kind of a pain to boot while holding the SIM card down but it'll do until I upgrade my phone.
Also, I noticed you don't have to reboot the phone - it will also check for the SIM card when updating PRL. So you can go to Settings->System Updates->Update PRL while holding down the SIM card. Once the PRL update completes it should recognize the card.

Yes, it's hard to hold the simcard through the boot time. Here it takes 30s...
Unfortunately, GSM versions don't have PRL option. And I haven't found another way but rebooting.
Reboot your phone multiple times until it detect the sim card. Once done go to security then set up sim card lock and and enable sim code identification. Now wen you reboot your phone it will ask to enter the pin code to unlock your phone and it will detect your sim card.
The issue is because it rebbot too fast i guess.
For the boot loop issue change your battery.
Thanks all, i set little schotch tape on my card now it can recognize it!
SORRY FOR MY BAD ENGLISH!
The pressing down during startup method worked for me! Took a few tries though, and it only worked when I removed the micro SD and pressed directly on the SIM.
I've just received my new M9 but haven't started to use it yet. My current sim is a micro sim and I had thought of cutting it down to nano size and using it. But the manual warns against doing this. Has anyone tried using a cut down sim? Or would I be better off sourcing a new nano sim instead?
If obtaining a nano sim actually can be accomplished - then definitely you must opt for that..
Again if you have an overseas carrier sim - then you'll have to go through cutting followed by some sort of filing to have it thinner
Ive cut my microsim into a nanosim and was working fine with my lg g3 and now working without issues on my m9
Many thanks to both of you. I know sim thickness is an issue and I had wondered if anyone had actually tried a cut down micro sim and had experienced problems. Perhaps HTC errs on the side of caution by advising against a cut down.
Cut my girlfriends sim that was in her G3 to fit the M9, it's been working fine.
Cut mine last year for the M8 and I am using the same one now with the M9.
Today i have cut my normal full size sim to Nano and so far it's working
A good friend of mine cut down his micro sim to a nano sim and it worked perfectly in his M8
