Hi all ,
i've been cracking my head on this one and cant figure it out :
I have an ATT One M8 with Viper installed.
I want to S-off and put an unbranded RUU.
now, when I run adb devices while the device is on, I get the serial number.
When I reboot to bootloader adb doesnt return anything, which causes moonshine to fail on test #2 (adb).
I've tried reinstalling the driver a gazilion times, tried 3 different cables, all USB ports on my laptop + a desktop - nothing.
actually it somehow got worse - now I cant see adb devices even when device is on.
any ideas?
thanks in advance
Adb only works in the OS or custom recovery. In the bootloader only fastboot commands work !
And s-off for the m8 is called Sunshine and not moonshine ! And sunshine only works with a stock OS, viper is highly modded so that will never work at all !
Thanks, but I found the moonshine tool which is said to s off also... You can see it at moonshine.io ...
When the tool runs it boots to bootloader and tries to reboot using adb from there, I guess that's why it's failing, I just can't understand how to get around it.

Listen ..... Moonshine does not work on the M8, ONLY sunshine !
Well that sucks
Was sure I saw some posts here about it working.
So you're saying sunshine won't work either cause I'm on viper rom ?
F***king att, all I want is an unbranded phone... Not much to ask imo

Then you should not blame at&t but yourself, you took one from them i assume. Taking a shot at at&t here is easy and very unnecessary !!!
And exactly that's what i am saying on the viper rom. Try it but there is no guarantee it works on that rom as its very modded !
Cheers
Was my first android and first time buying from abroad, had no idea that att blocks hotspot tethering and crap like that, we don't have those limitations where I live.
What annoys me is that if I don't live in the US, why don't they allow me to remove those limitations? Annoying..

Actually, that's not true. You can get S-Off with ViperOne.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=63856695&postcount=4040
But I would imagine you would have to run Sunshine before making too many tweaks/mods. I'm not sure about that though.
EDIT: Although it should work; and I'm a Venom team member as well; I usually recommend MaximusHD ROM for S-Off
Thanks.
So going forward I should flash maximus , s off and install the ruu?
I need to get my device back to stock unbranded condition..

That's an option yes. As i also stated in one of my previous posts you can try it on viper, but no guarantee is given.

Seems the legend that is Paul O'Brien has successfully rooted a locked phone...if you wish to try then please go to the MoDaCo site to get the link

Paul hasn't tested it fully so this is an early exploit so make sure the RUU for your phone is available as, if things go wrong, you could be screwed!
you can test already but be aware that its early alpha and it could harm your phone
He has a s-off device so it might not work but hopeful for guys who haven't unlocked.

Yeah, was creating the thread when I saw he'd posted the r3 file online so will update the OP
Paul says that the worst Case Scenario would be that u must use a RUU, nothing about Brick!
i heard that some say that there is a tempered message in the hboot. so maybe there is still a sign for htc that you have modified something
He did it for the HTC Desire so I don't doubt him!

Must like when people use super wipe without the Rom on the sd
I'm already unlocked so I'm more interested in s-off.

So if this works what can I do? Just use root apps or can I install custom roms as well or do I need an unlocked bootloader for that

At the moment, just root apps...there's a chance it might lead to ROMs, though (fingers crossed)

True but not everyone has access to RUU's, a lot of suppliers havent put out ones for the 1.28 base so all those who have done an OTA update can no longer use the 1.26 RUU because of the updated HBOOT.

I ran firewater and it started off at 1 bottle something... It then stopped and said something about my boot loader being patched??? So does that mean I can't unlock my phone? I have the T-Mobile HTC one m8 version.

Try this.
If the message wasn't this, google the real message to find similar situations.
Its not clear whether you understand the difference between bootloader unlock and S-off. S-off isn't needed to unlock the bootloader, root, flash ROMs, etc.

Then your title is confusing. To me, it means you are having issues unlocking the bootloader.
Make sure you are on stock ROM, stock kernel, and some say even stock recovery. If firewater still doesn't work, you will need to use sunshine.
FYI, stock ROM and kernel are recommended for sunshine, as well.
Thanks for everyone who tried to help. I tried firewater again and again and got s-off and super cid finally. Just guess luck was on my side.

What version of Sense are you on? I tried to do it the other day, also t-mobile, when I go to the final command line, nothing happens.
I have a HTC One (m7) from Verizon. I have been trying to root my phone from my iMac. I followed the steps in SAKITECH youtube video. Everything works fine until I get to the HTCDEV site and put in my ID Token. I get an error code saying MID NOT ALLOWED. I have tried it probably 100 times and it will not work, I actually attempted so much that it locked me out (exceed unlock limit), I had to create a new account and still cannot get it to go.
Any suggestions?
The Verizon m7 was blocked from the HTC dev site a long time ago.

1st , the search button on Xda is key. What u will find,is that ever since the 2nd day of the HTC one's release of the Verizon variant, htcdev has been blocked by Verizon, and unlocking bootloader via htcdev is impossible on Verizon model. Depending on which hboot and android/software version your running, there are different options. However, if your 4.4.2 or above, chances are, your only option is Sunshine , which unlocks your bootloader and S-offs your device, but it costs $25, however it's well worth it. (i believe some ppl have said firewater which is free HAS worked on 4.4.2, but rarely. I know4.4.3s ONLY option is Sunshine)

ARHD is for other variants. Try ViperDNA or one of Santod's modified stock roms. A good sense kernel is either the one made by brymaster5000 or Kangaroo kernel.

Generally, when it comes to custom roms/kernels ,stick to the ones in the Verizon M7 thread and if you're really wanting one outta the HTC one forums, SPECIFICALLY check with the devs if it's compatible with our carrier variant..

+ 1 on brymaster5000 s ELITE LUNAR kernel, ALSO highly recommend ElementalX, there IS a working Verizon build, I've been running it awhile now and love it. Haven't tried Kangaroo yet, but heard great things, and Xceed Synapse, although that seems a lot more advanced/complicated if you're not too familiar with custom kernels..

ARHD from what I've read is NOT compatible with the Verizon M7... I could be wrong, but ARHD isn't listed in the Verizon M7 development forums, and what I've read from the regular M7 ARHD thread ALSO suggests that ARHD isn't compatible.. so that's probably your problem. Flashing roms that aren't compatible with your device will cause unwanted consequences. I'm not big into custom Roms, I'm more into kernels and mods, but if you're looking for a good Sense based Rom, try Viper, NuSense or Bonestock, among others. But like I said, the problem seems to be that your trying to run ARHD, which isn't compatible with Verizon's model of the M7... Revert to a Nandroid backup, or flash a different Rom...

OK, New Problem. I downloaded and installed the STOCK RUU (Debloated) and it installed booted and I keep getting Error Messages. "Unfortunately, com.android.systemUI has Stopped" and "Unfortunately, android.process.core has stopped". I had this problem initially with Liquid Smooth but after a FACTORY RESET (thru bootloader) and a fresh install (thru recovery) it was fine, but I didn't have any apps, and more importantly, GOOGLR PLAY STORE. And now I cannot get into Settings to turn FASTBOOT off - therefore I cannot get into recovery to attempt to reinstall.

Plug phone into PC. Open a command window (start menu, search cmd and hit enter) then type "adb reboot bootloader"
Or just hold the power button until device reboots right when it reboots hold the vol down key while still pressing the power button. You should reboot to bootloader. Then select recovery.

My phone is currently booting, shutting down, and rebooting all on its own. I cannot stop it. I got it rooted. I used SUNSHINE to get bootloader unlocked
Hi guys. My m8 was s'onned on 4.4.4 and I'd lost my wifi. So I read somewhere you needed to downgrade and flash the OTA manually and for that I needed s'off. Now I really wouldn't mind paying the devs of sunshine 25$ for s'offing because let's face it, they're awesome and they probably have to charge much more for all the work they put in. But unfortunately for me, I'm a kid in my 12th grade and my dad isn't gonna buy me anything but guides for my studies LOL.
I couldn't use firewater because it said htc patched my device and I was out of luck.
So, on a hunch what I did was I flashed cm 11 and then I tried firewater and surprise!! it worked!! my device was s-off'ed
anyway after that I had to go back to the 4.4.3 stock and then upgrade using OTA and everything was alright.
So what I'm basically saying is if you're a cheap bastard like me and can't pay for sunshine and you love sense, you should try that method above. I can't guarantee it'll work for you but it's worth the try, eh?
Note: Please use the above method only if you cannot pay for sunshine. Plus sunshine is much easier to use and you don't have to go through all this hassle

Hello all,
I am new to all this, techy stuff, and have recently bought a htc one m8. I had it rooted for me, but I didn't want to pay for GPE. I then found out Lollipop has been released, and tried to get it by going into software info on settings, but I couldn't get the lollipop update, as my phone says 'Your phone software is up to date with the latest version'. I realised that because of my root, my phone wasn't on the same channel as it was on before. I found another way to get lollipop, but that meant buying sunshine for $25. Is there another free alternative? I thought I could unroot my phone, then reroot it, but I do not know how to unroot, get update then reroot. Can I please get help?
Hi,
Thanks for writing to us at XDA Assist, in order to help you effectively I need to know which variant of the M8 you have please.
I have the gsm version
Ok, so it's not carrier branded at all?
no its not.
Going back to my question, i have actually found out my fone is on s-off bcus i had to unlock bootloader to root, meanin my fone is rooted with s-off. However, i would like to get gpe on my fone so i can get lollipop. Only issue is, the other methods do it on a normal htc one m8, not on a rooted htc one m8. Are the nethods the same meaning i can use the normal gpe conversion methods on my prerooted htc one m8, or do i need another method?
Thanks for the extra information, I'm actually asking you these questions for a reason, XDA Assist isn't a general technical support section so I needed to know exactly which variant you have in order to have this thread redirected correctly for you.
Please standby while we have your thread/question moved to the appropriate sub-forum for your device.
For future reference you can find your device sub-forum here (bookmark/subscribe this):

Within that section you will find a dedicated q&a sub-forum (this is where your thread is going to be moved to):

Unlocking your bootloader doesn't make you S-Off. Boot into your bootloader to check.
To get into bootloader, turn off your phone. Then hold down the power button plus vol down till your phone boots back up. You'll get a readout there that will tell you if you are S-Off or S-On.
If you can confirm that you are S-Off, I will guide you to converting your phone to GPE.

To get into bootloader, turn off your phone. Then hold down the power button plus vol down till your phone boots back up. You'll get a readout there that will tell you if you are S-Off or S-On.
If you can confirm that you are S-Off, I will guide you to converting your phone to GPE.

You can't use moonshine. The ONLY way to get s-off on this device is sunshine.
Yes, Sunshine, V3. And you are better off without the 5.0, if you want to S-OFF. Sunshine will most likely work on 4.4.4, and issues will appear while trying to S-OFF the Lollipop.

yeah delete all superuser binaries, or return to your original stock backup that you made before messing around with root
I have got my phone on bootloader, and I have a custom recovery file. However, I cannot seem to enter recovery mode. As I go to 'HBOOT' then 'RECOVERY' it shows the htc screen, but then it loads back to the bootloader screen. I have tried getting Hasoon's Toolkit and going into bootloader from here, and I have also tried getting a bat file and running that on my pc with my phone connected to it, same result. However, before this problem occurred, I had a message pop up, but this happened only once. This is what the message said:
SD Checking…
No Gift File…
Loading … ( OP6BDIAG.zip)
No image!
Loading … ( OP6BDIAG.nbh)
No image or wrong image!
Loading … ( OP6BIMG.zip)
Loading … ( OP6BIMG.nbh)
No image or wrong image!
After this, when I tried to go into recovery, the issue had then first occurred. Any suggestions on what to do? I have tried using a toolkit, a bat file, doing it through bootloader, and getting an app. Also, how can I clear my cache through bootloader?
Fastboot erase cache

Depends of your carrier. They handle the updates. Just wait.

You need a stock rom and recovery. So either 1 or both are not stock. Go to the thread where you have been already (the stock backup thread in the general section) and read up in there. All info and what you need to do is written down there.
Edit :
Ah just not getting notified for the update ? Like been said, wait for them to push. Or there is a custom (stock like) rom on your phone. If thats the case my first part stands
Which thread? Please send a link?
