I was wondering if there was any way to replace the camera app with vignette? What I want is to open camera, but it opens vignette instead. Is that even possible?
does any one have an idea how to do this without removing the camera.apk? I hate having apps in my app drawer that I don't/will never use... I am rooted with unlocked bootloader. thanks in advance...
or is there a replacement camera app I can use?
if anyone cares... I found the solution! I used rom toolbox and used advance freeze, and disabled mirror. easy.
you can disable any app i think within the settings>manage apps>all tab, then tap on the app and select disable.
I like to freeze Gallery and use QuickPic. But when I do, the camera and camcorder in AOSP ROM's always stop working.
Camera is not a big deal since I use a different app for that. But there is no other way to get a camcorder from the Play Store that I have found.
So right now, I'm forced to let Gallery do its thing.
Anybody know of a way to break this dependency so I can uninstall Gallery?
Nope... Gallery.apk contains the camera... Just hide the icon... Most launchers have the feature...

I do hide the icon. But that doesn't stop it from popping up as an option for several functions. Like choosing a new desktop background, etc.
You can uninstall Gallery on stock Samsung ROM. And it doesn't affect the camera. Kinda irritating that it's different with AOSP.
Just hit "always" when you select quikpic. Done.

settings/apps/(select whichever gallery app you use currently/app settings/set as default/ tap this then tap "clear defaults". Launch your gallery app and give it permissions to be the default

That didn't work, the camera app just goes into its own gallery.

You can't change what the camera app opens to. That's fixed in the app itself.

Thanks so much for the help, @joeldf and @Youdoofus. I was wondering if this is possible with root access. I'm trying to do the same thing on my OP8T to change the shortcut inside Camera to go to Google Photos. Perhaps there's a way to 'redirect' all attempts to open Gallery?
