Stupid question:
did i have to flash the right boot.img when i restore a rom via nandroid?
lets say, i have a sense rom installed, but want to restore the cyanogen rom.
did i have to flash any boot.img before i restore a backup?
i guess not. correct me if im wrong
Yes, of course you do. You can't write to the boot partition from recovery (without s-off), which is why you have to flash the boot.img via fastboot when you flash a ROM. So when you're restoring a backup from recovery it's still not able to write to the boot partition, so you'll have to flash the boot.img from your backup yourself.
where do you get the boot.img from? is it in the nandroid backup file, if so where? Thanks!
ps sorry for bringing up an old thread.
In the .zip file of the Rom you want to restore.

depending what version you want. there is a thread in development by Tryce.. he had all the stock recoveries from 1.26 and onwards and all the boot.imgs for all stock rom versions.

I flash by odin but downloading mode in phone not cout --> only zero so long. (use kies is same)

U should flash the same boot.img as it was when u made the nandroid, for example, yesterday I was with venon and franco s kernel, made a nandroid, flashed another rom and boot.img. then used my nandroid of venon, restored nandroid and flashed franco s kernel boot.img.

the name of these recoverys is "geefhd", if your ROM's updater-script doesn't compat this, please pay attention on it

I modified a TWRP installer with this CWM. Replaced TWRP with CWM on my E986 and it works. Updated adb.exe to work with 4.4.
To install just extract the zip contents and run the batch file.

You actually don't need those files, just look at post #3 and download that and run it on you pc with the phone connected.

No, you can't flash those files, but if you want to update CWM, why don't you install Philz recovery for the e980, it is great.

The problem is i have the e986.
is there a way i can flash this recovery? I installed PhilZi's recovery and my phone is messed up. I forgot to enable loki support and flash a rom, and then my phone is only booting to recovery. the system folder is always empty whatever i flashed. there is something wrong with my phone, so that i also cannot flash a kdz file. it always return error.
my only chance of getting the phone back is to flash the recovery. can anyone help me with that pls?

Bro please don't flash CWM now it will be of no use after reboot you will return back to recovery only.. first go for TWRP.. get the rom flashed & then if you required go for CWM..

update: ... now I can boot into TWRP. and it is not reading my 32GB External SD card where i put all the Roms and nandroid backup. ...
more updates ... somehow I found a downloaded OTA zip file from CM11. I'm flashed it and booting now.

I have a e986 german with Stock 20a EU 4.4.2
If I installed cwm it gives me a boot loop into recovery. So I must install my rom via kdz tool and so I have no recovery yet. I found no way to flash a working recovery and unlock bootloader for my phone.
Can I flash this under e986eu20a?

One last thing... hehe.. I have this phone unlocked to use any carrier, if I flash the update will I lose this feature? I bought it in Mexico

At the very least, you will have to unlock it again. You'll have to research how to do that on your own.
Actually i lost my trwp recovery after flashing oxygenos 4.1.1 and i dont have my pc with me so i want to know can i flash SuperSU through stock recovery and then can i flash twrp through flashify please help me..and i dont want to stuck in a bootloop because i dont have my pc with me
Unfortunately, you can't flash anything that isn't signed by OnePlus through the stock recovery.
