US AT&T BYOD Purchase - G4 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Coming from a Nexus 5 (2013) I want to switch to the LG G4. Which version should I buy and from where? I dont want the AT&T branded version and I would like to be able to root. If you could link me to amazon with the one I should buy that would be great.

Get the T-Mobile variant (H811) if you're in the US. All other variants can't be bootloader unlocked, thus (some) can't be rooted and stuff.

would this work
http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00YA8308M/ref=ask_ql_qh_dp_hza

No idea as it doesn't say which variant it is. Only the European Open variants (H815-EUR) and T-Mobile (H811) are unlockable. It's unlikely this is the EUR variant but rather H815-SEA.

If I buy the unlocked version of the phone from verizon, is it possible for me to use it overseas? And would I be able to use the phone on AT&T?

cuz I want the silver version and atnt doesnt have that yet. anyone know when the atnt silver is available?
I saw a video of someone using T-Mobile SIM in the Verizon M8 and it worked fine so I would assume if it's unlocked it would work overseas and with AT&T.

you would be best off waiting for the ATT version or getting the GPE, which would have all the US LTE bands.

HTC 10 Tmobile work on all bands with AT&T?

Hello looking at purchasing a Tmobile Variant of the HTC 10 . Will it work on all bands with AT&T? Just want to make sure that I wont be losing any performance / signal?
Thanks so much!
Scoob
Why not just buy the unlocked direct from HTC since it's available?
Yes it will... You can also convert it to the unlocked US version (or buy that instead) so you don't have to wait for updates.

Worst case scenario, you have to spend another $25 to s-off using sunshine and convert it to us unlocked variant, which works perfectly oh AT&T.

Release date of Note 7 for US unlocked?

Does anyone know when the unlocked variant of Note 7 N930U will be available? I am just not buying a carrier branded one because of a lot of reasons...
I'm keeping close watch on this as well as I want to get the rom from it and install it on my TMO purchased Note 7. It's a good way to debloat and to get updates outside of when TMO says yes or no to them. I can't wait.
What reasons? If it's because of root, AT&T and Sprint variants have root.

I've had root on Android phones since the G1 but since the August patch to 6.0.1 it's just become to much of a pain in the ass to keep root and to have Android Pay. So the unlocked version of the rom doesn't come with a majority of Samsungs bloat ... it asks if you want to install the various apps during the first boot and you can say no. It doesn't come with the carrier bloat. These are the reasons. The only reason I've kept root on my Nexus 6P as long as I had was for greenify and with the Note 7 they've basically given that ability to the user without root. Folks have a lot of reasons to keep rooting ... I just don't. The OP might feel differently.
If you want the phone now, get the carrier Note 7 and then Odin flash the OS when Note 7 Unlocked is released.
For example, I bought the S7 Edge through AT&T but was able to Odin flash Unlocked software so phone is identical to unlocked version. I even got OTAs from Samsung directly. No root required and you can flash back to AT&T firmware and build if necessary.

But I don't want to root my phone;( I won't be able to use Samsung pay, Knox, secure folder...
I said "no root required". Samsung Pay and Knox work fine.

Oh wow I didn't know that would work!? Is it because they are exactly identical? I remember that was not possible in the past with Samsung devices...
Yes, identical phones only difference is build and firmware. On AT&T, you lose VoLTe and HD Calling. On T Mobile, you still get wifi calling and VoLTE.
I Odin flashed my AT&T S7 Edge with no issues. No it is unlocked version.

This is great to know. thanks! Just a bit confusion, by "No it is unlocked version" do you mean that AT&T locked S7 edge converted to sim unlocked phone? Can use different carrier sim by flashing ROM of unlocked version?

Yes, S7 Edge converted to Sim unlocked US version with no carrier bloatware. Phone can be used with any US carrier. Basically, turning a AT&T S7 Edge into a non carrier phone.

Wow, I didn't know that. I was planning to sim-unlock TMobile locked Note 7 via some third party online service, but I guess I will now wait for the official ROM for SM-N930U and flash to SM-N930T. Thanks!
Update: Apparently this is not true. Some research helped me to understand that flashing ROM does not sim-unlock your device.
The Big IF being if Samsung releases a US unlocked version like they did with S7 and S7 Edge.

Convert T-Mobile variant into international?

does anyone know if it is possible to convert a T-Mobile variant to an international one? or Verizon or any firmware out there?
Please tell me how you are thinking that this would even be remotely possible?

By flashing the factory image for the US unlocked version? That's what we did with the S7.
Not possible. We have different chipsets. Best option would be Canadian unbranded firmware or wait a week or two for the unlocked US firmware

If you mean exynos then you're SOL. Might be able to flash the US unlocked firmware but that's usually so far behind... I'd have to ask why?

Sometimes it is, but not always. Amazon has the G8 listed and every so often it's on sale, I picked mine up for $499, carrier lock free, and besides Alexa it doesn't have any carrier bloat except for the normal LG stuff (Amazon specific version, no Google assistant button)
