Hi, I was able to succesfuly unlock the developer options on ny 1st gen moto 360. I noticed an option to force screen burn in prevention. I figured I'd use that and uninstall my slumber app because the no to has a history of burn in problems. I rebooted and put it on the charging dock and it came up with the factory circle and charging screen. The setting didn't deem to do anything. Can anyone help me out? Thanks.

So i don't know if this is because I just got a replacement device, but I put it on the charger and it's turning the screen off itself without going into the settings. I don't know if this is because it's saying "charge your battery" to update, but I'm not doing anything with ambient settings

Mine came with the new update already on it and did the same thing. Search for how to enable developer mode and there is a toggle there to turn it on or off.
I'm all updated, but the option in developer mode doesn't work for me. I have to manually turn it off in Wear App every night.

Same here.
I would reset your watch and resync it with your phone again. Give that a try.
Yeah, it's gone now have to do the settings again. Fyi, I was happy about this not mad. It must have been asking for the update that made it do this
It appears that enabling developer options somehow disables the screen off while charging option. The strange thing is that although the developer option menu has a toggle for this, it actually does not work.
With the latest S/W rev (4.4W.1) I can turn the screen off in the charger the same way I turn it off on my wrist - placing my palm on the screen momentarily turns it off. (This is with developer options enabled but no changes to the settings.)
Easy Peasy!
Edit: And apparently the result of S/W not operating as designed. My 360 dropped the connection to my phone recently so I restarted it. Since then the screen remains on during charging regardless of what I do.
I recently upgraded my android wear device from an LG G watch to the 1st Gen Moto 360. I have the same apps installed on both (other than a couple dormant watchface apps), and I've never experienced this on my LG...
After I set my watch to any brightness value (1-5 or Auto), once the screen goes to sleep then the display turns back on (via button press, screen tilt, etc.), the brightness is immediately back to the brightest setting... You can imagine what this is doing to my battery life!
I have factory reset my watch 4 times now and the problem persists. I have toggled on and off the Ambient Screen, Tilt to wake and Card previews, just in case... No luck
My best guess is that a third party app is overwriting the phone's settings, but I can't track it down (especially since I have the identical setup on my LG G watch with no issues).
I regularly use the brightness slider with Wear Mini Launcher and after a sleep, the slider is all the way back at Max again.
Has anyone else experienced this phenomenon on their Moto 360 or other Android Wear devices? Any suggestions on how to fix or troubleshoot this issue?
Currently, I can't go but a few hours before I have to charge my watch
Update...
As it turns out, the culprit was Smart Wear System SWS... I'm reaching out to the developer now
Anyone else's notification sensor not working correctly when screen is off. It sometimes flashes on for a second right before I pick up the phone. If I wave my hand over it nothing happens. The ticker is on so I don't know what else could be the problem.

I found out it was because developer mode was on. Oh well, back to having animations.
Thanks for this...I was having the same problem. I turned off Developer options and it started working...then I turned off the Moto Display and re-enabled the developer options. I would rather have a faster device than Moto Display.

Wow thanks! I thought i had a problem with my Moto Z Play, as the notification sensor wasn't working anymore, and it was just flashing as I waved my hand above it, and I didn't realized it was because I activated developer mode! It's a cool feature, but I'm still not going to activate the animations back again, just to have the Moto Display, I'm still on board for a faster device. =)

It was actually because I had animations on 0. I changed it to .5 and the display still works. I can live with that!?

Just found a topic here in the forum explaining that you don't need to give up the Developer Options to have back the Moto Display =)
@ladera gave a great solution in a simliar thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/moto-z-play/help/moto-display-approach-issue-t3474414

Do you have the Animator Duration setting in Developer Options set to 0? I think it needs to be at .5 or higher as it governs the duration of the Moto Display appearance time.

I just did this and you can leave Window animation scale and Transition animation scale at zero, and Animator duration scale in .5x and your Moto Display will be back =)
I don't think that Animation duration scale at .5x and all the rest of the animations at zero will drain more battery or lag the phone at all. It's a minor adjustment that brings back a useful functionality =)
I got a MotoZ play today, and I've an similar issue.. I left my phone over a table, but the moto display just flashes from time on time, even when there is no interaction.
Any idea or suggstion??
Developer options are turned off.
Sorry if this is not the right place to ask, but well, I don't wanna open another thread for a similar issue
It happens to me too i have turned everything to. 5 and it keeps flashing from time to time

Hi folks,
after i crashed my Nexus 6 i bought the Moto Z Play. Great mobile with a long lasting battery, i love it.
The only thing is, that i got used to Ambient Display on the Nexus. I read, that it is also possible on the Moto. Just stop and disable the process (called "Moto Info" on the device, German setting, maybe called different in other languages), go to display and enable the option Ambient Display.
But it doesn't work. Screen not goes on after receiving a message. Have i done smth wrong or is it not possible anymore after the update?
Thanks in advance, greetings and have a nice day.
PS: Having stock, locked, unrooted Android 7 on the phone.
Do you have the option "Ambient Display" on your phone? or did you confuse it with "Adaptive Brightness"?
As far as i know, Motorola has phased it out ( or nicely put intergrated with Moto Display) and the method you describe works only on Moto X Play.
Moto Display is the equivalent to Ambient Display. It's in the Moto App. IMO, Moto Display is better than Ambient Display.
Thanks for reply, and sorry for my long taking answer. Had to make a business trip to a neighbour country.
Yes, i've the option "Ambient Display" in the display settings. On MM was it possible to use it like i discribed it. But under nougat I never got it running. Which one is better depends on the own needs. I got used to the Nexus 6 and that it showed the preview of the received message, when the display switched on. With Moto Display I've to hit the icon first with the finger to see the message.
Moto display is working after nougat update.
Was anyone ever able to get stock ambient display (not Moto Active Display) working?
Disabling the Moto Display app enables the ambient display setting but it do not work at all, the screen never lights up when a notification arrives.
Any suggestions? maybe rooting or some xposed thing?
SOLVED: See first comment.
I prefer not to keep the Always On Display (AOD) enabled in an effort to prevent battery drain and premature screen burn-in. With that said, I received my Pixel Stand today and during the initial setup with the phone on the stand, it gave me the option to enable AOD, only when the phone is on the stand. I decided to turn it on to test out the features for a bit. However, now I'm unable to turn AOD off, for when the phone is on the stand.
I've dug through settings multiple times and can't seem to find it. Under Display > Advanced > Ambient Display, AOD is turned off, but it still turns on when the phone is on the stand. During the setup it said something about being able to turn it off in Assistant settings after the fact. But I've scavenged through every assistant setting I can find and cannot figure out how to turn it off.
At this point I'm stuck and don't want to factory reset to fix it. For now I'm refraining from using the Pixel Stand until I get this fixed. Which is a shame.
Any ideas?
In another thread uicnren posted a solution to my problem and it worked perfectly. Thanks!

for the record, you can find the settings at: settings > connected devices > previously connected devices > then tap the cog next to 'pixel stand'. then simply forget the stand, and re-add it again with the settings you desire.

The interface is confusing. The only way I got it to leave the phone off when charging (as recommended for battery lifetime (not having to replace it)- see "13 tips to extend the lifespan of your phone battery" by Lauren Stephen), is to forget it as described then refuse to add any settings when I put it in the pixel stand. Very sad, as I'd love to be able to use some of the features, but just also have it go to deep sleep while charging, IF I press the power off button while its on the stand.
