Fingerprint scanner and custom software? - Nexus 5X Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Just wanted to make sure, does unlocking bootloader, flashing custom recovery, ROM, root, etc. affect the fingerprint scanner? Also I saw a thread showing how to unlock bootloader and root without removing encryption, not sure if that has anything to do with it.

Imprint works with my rooted decrypted M build.

It works even in custom romz I am on pure nexus

[Q] Is possible (and useful) to lock the bootloader?

Hi!
I have a Nexus 7, unlocked and with custom rom (Omni). The process I did was the standard:
-Unlock the bootloader (so I can change the recovery)
-Flash TWRP
-Flash room
So, I was wondering if it is possible to lock it again without breaking everything. It is just curiosity: Since when you are unlocking it, you are forces to format all internal data, it seems that locking it (while preserving TWRP, root and custom ROM) would slightly increase the security. Would that work? Or I would get a dead Nexus 7?
Thanks!

If you lock it using fastboot oem lock, it won't break it, but if you wanted to flash something (kernel, su, xposed, a new rom, etc) again, you would have to fastboot oem unlock (and wipe everything again which will wipe all your work), what you'd probably prefer, is use something like bootunlocker which can lock and unlock the bootloader from within the OS.
I just leave my device unlocked, much more convenient that way. I've had no issues with it being unlocked.

There are a number of solutions.
The risk is that somehow when you were flashing something, the battery died, so you can't unroot now (for sending back to Asus. And I have a bad usb charging port right now, so i am having a lot of problems).
BootUnlocker works but I don't know if CWM works with BootUnlocker locking the
What I do know is that I rooted my nexus with Towelroot, which does not unlock the bootloader (The unlock sign does not appear.). I had succssfully installed TWRP, Xposed, Su, Game Killer, etc... and had later discovered BootUnlocker.
Thanks for your answers.
Not that I was planing to do it, but it is always good to know!!

relock bootloader with customised rom or rooted OxygenOS?

Hi
I noticed OnePlus 3 does NOT allow user to have fully working phone when one re-lock bootloader with customised recovery or modified ROM. I would only assume there is security feature put in and checking the integrety of the ROM during boot. Did OxygenOS get digitally signed? Does this mean we don't have any method to root the OxygenOS and yet keep bootloader locked?
The reason I like to keep bootloader locked is becuase it's much more secure, otherwise, anyone can took the phone reflesh the recovery and have full access to my contents. Once they are done, they can simply swap it back without me notice anything.
I have done this with Nexus 5.
Any ideas for achieve below as end result?
* bootloader locked, running OxygenOS, and have SuperSU installed
* bootloader locked, running any ROM, and have phone rooted
Thanks
You could try to root your phone with KingRoot, which allows having your device rooted without a Custom Recovery or unlocked device.
Do we know what method is KingRoot using for this?

Certainly you can if you are prepared for a bricked device later. I mean, it is not advisable to lock the bootloader if you have a custom ROM since any issues arise later, you will not be able to solve them. In addition, even if you manage to unlock the bootloader again in such a scenario, you will lose all your data including files, photos, videos etc.
If you properly sign the firmware, you don't even have to unlock the bootloader, see https://forum.xda-developers.com/oneplus-3t/how-to/guide-custom-kernels-roms-recoveries-t3572525

CustomROM possible without root and (re)locked bootloader?

Hi,
Long story short:
is it possible to install customROM without root and to (re)lock the bootloader, and are there experiences with a similar situation where Apps check for closed bootloader and root (and stop working if detected)?
=> Goal: activate WiFi-Calling as my provider tuned down 2G-transmitpower due to the 5G-advances (without having enough 3G-coverage to make calls on UMTS-net)... BUT: I'm using two banks; one uses a PhotoTAN-App, that stops working if it detects an open Bootloader, the other Bank-App checks for Root & open Bootloader, and likewise stops working if detected. I have no idea about the PhotoTAN and Magisk, but the 2nd bank confirmed they checked rooted devices with Magisk, and that it does not work with it....
Thus, if I go for a CustomROM, I need to be sure that I can run it unrooted and with a locked bootloader....
Is there a way to install a CustomROM on the 5X with (re)locked bootloader and without root?
(or, if not possible: is there a way I can activate WiFi-Calling on StockROM if said one does not have the Carrier-Entitlements?)
Thanks for the help
@theunlucky: you don't need root to flash a custom ROM, only an unlocked bootloader. IMO you can lock it after flashing ROM.

Are you sure about locking the bootloader after flashing a CustomROM? I've read several threads now, and it seems a locked BL only works with StockROM?
Not sure, therefore IMO IMO a locked BL prevents flashing CustomROM, not running. Try. If it doesn't work, you unlock BL again (triggers factory reset). In the worst case you've to flash latest firmware for a clean base..

Unlocking and Relocking bootloader with Camera2 API

I'm looking to unlock my bootloader to try and install gcam following this: technobuzz.net/ google-camera-without-root/ however I've never unlocked bootloader before and every time I go to I get put off by the warning messages...
Sooo I wanted to know if i unlock bootloader, enable Camera2 API and install gcam could I still lock bootloader afterwards or will it reverse everything?
is it worth it? or should i be worried about malware.. I don't intend to use roms ect.. I'd just like a fairly decent camera..
Also does anyone have any experience with Pokemon Go working with unlocked bootloader?
Thanks for any help.x
You have to flash fastboot ROM to relock bootloader and this will erase everything
Say you have enabled camera2api and kept unlocked bootloader, whenever you get new update build.prop will overwritten with original build.prop so you will loose camera2api
