Someone help me please! - G3 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

OK I'm new here and just made an account because I've been up for three days trying to figure out what's wrong with my phone. I have a LG G3 D855 and I've rooted it and flashed recovery (twrp) and two different kernels and a custom ROM(XenonHD) and I just can't seem to get my phone to not reboot while running antutu benchmark or really doing anything else for that matter. I've installed 777kernel and I use Lionheart and zen and I have it oc'd to 2.8 and the GPU to its max as well. Here's the thing though, I can play games (dead trigger 2 and unkilled) without it shutting off but doing other things it'll shut off randomly and it drives me nuts. Sorry if this is long but damn I just want to game until my thumbs bleed, without lag. I appreciate all the hard work you guys do here so I hope I don't sound like a fool. Also I'm running xenonhd right now and I have my daily one that's stock 5.0 v20i sea xx and that one does the same thing just with navel kernel. I don't care about battery life. I just want to be able to enjoy my games smooth and not have my phone shut off when browsing the internet. Btw its not heat related because I've been testing it. The games get up to like 90C and it doesn't shut off but chilling at 60C it will. Doesn't make sense. Sorry for long post..

Run it at stock frequency, or 2.6 max. That's too high in my opinion. And it can be rom/kernel related so i suggest installing a stock rom.

So i should clock it down? Can i keep the gpu turned high?

So is it just my epic?

So no matter what rom i load on my phone i get the same thing.... it will not wake up and i have to remove the battery. Now on stock its fine! but any rom.. and yes i have tried them.. numerous times.. Right now i have AOSP genocide 2 and its working the best. I can go 4 or 5 hours before i need to do a battery pull (sometimes). This morning i have had to do i battery pull twice but now it seems to be fine.
Now its not over clocking that is doing it. I have been all through that. My phone blazes when at 1.3ghz but will not turn back on ever with out a battery pull. right now there is no overclocking and voltage control is denied root. This seems to be working the best.
I really want something besides the stock rom. mainly because my phone is snappier and the battery life is wayyyyyyy better. So is it just my phone? Should i bring it into sprint and get a new epic?

Are these freezes ONLY happening when running o/c? If so, then your hardware might not like o/c speeds. Please clarify that it is not an o/c issue due to the information you provided above.
If you're stable and having no locking issues on stock, then flash ROMS/kernels and of the bat start boosting to o/c speeds then seeing instability, how/why are you ruling out it's not a o/c or hardware limitation?

I don't think sprint will swap your phone out just because you can't manage stable o/c speeds on your phone. LOL
Sounds like you need to do the classic Wipe 3X before flashing.
Sorry guys i should have been more clear. I am not a noob i always wipe 3x. It is not a O/C issue. I have gone through all the clocking and my phone just does not like it.. I can live with that. What i am saying is even when not O/C and denying all access from anything that could effect my processor the ROM's Still don't work right. They freeze even with NO O/C at all! Every one of them. So i am thinking i just got the bad end of the silicon?
Also i relies Sprint will not just exchange my phone.. But im sure i could come up with something lol.
Well i really like my epic but i am thinking of switching to the photon if i cant get the ROMS to work right. I really wanted to wait until next year to upgrade.

It's not the overclocking that causes your phone to go into sleep of death, it is the low end. 100 Mhz causes sleep of death on a lot of phones on a custom ROM. Set your minimum frequency to 200 Mhz and you will be fine. Don't change any of the stoick voltages.
Try using stock speeds (400-1000). Then work your way incrementally in both directions to see which frequency(ies) cause your issues. Each phone is unique, so find the sweet spot.
I get the black screen of death about twice a month running twilight 1.1.1. My phone runs 200-1000 with no undervolting and set on conservative. I'm just too lazy to bother playing with settings since I'm holding out for SRF 1.3 to release.

[Q] Malfunctioning Device? Internal Damage?

Well, to sum things up, my phone has never been so slow and laggy ever since flashing Faux's ultimate kernel (v0.0.6u). (Not blaming anyone other than myself, just sayin)... Anyway, I have the feeling something internal went horribly wrong. Seeing that no other kernel other than Faux's ultimate had GPU turbo boost @ 320/220Mhz, I thought it would be nice to try it out with BeastMod 4.2. After using OC Daemon to set my CPU gov to ONDEMAND and stock clock speeds, I did the usual and tested the rom throughout the day. Battery live was insanely awful. The phone seemed to draining at a rate comparable to using YouTube on 4G, EVEN WHEN THE SCREEN WAS OFF!. Oh, and it got pretty warm, not hot, but noticeably warmer than usual. Knowing I would not be able to flash a new rom/kernel till later that day, I simply shut my phone off for the time being. When I got home, I discovered the problem. Even after switching back to... let's say Bullet w/ Juggernaut, I noticed that scrolling through anything, playing a game, running a benchmark (especially this one), caused the phone to slow down, hiccup, pause, lag, whatever you want to call it. In Quadrant, the fps for the 2d test was hitting high 20's before, and now, it jumps about the teens goes as low as 8fps. Score: 1801...2130... Am I running a dual core? Not anymore it seems... Feels like the second I touch my phone, thermal protection kicks in or something else is choking it and preventing my phone from being smooth like it used to be. Even tried underclocking to sensation speeds (1188). No help at all. Still craps out on me. I'm beginning to think I fried something inside. Broken Adreno? Hope not... Any ideas?
Note: Yes, I followed all ROM and kernel flashing procedures. I may be a noob (literally), but I do know how to flash properly.
Maybe try a factory reset and Odin back to stock to start from scratch.

I'll give it a shot. Hoping Christmas Eve is lucky this year.

[Q] Galaxy Nexus CPU temp

Hello all
This is my first post and Galaxy Nexus is my first Android phone.
So, when i bought my GNex it was on stock and I use Stock ROM about 3 days. In that period he never get any warm - not even whet I play Angry Birds RIO for about 30min.
Then my brother install me latest AOKP ROM and Franco kernel - great stuff, but now I feel heat around camera
I use TempMonitor PRO app and this is my results :
all apps close, not starting anything - around 32C
Gallery, cam, some apps started and closed - from 38 to 42C
Playing games (Angry birds RIO, Space, Sentinel HD) - 48 to 52C
My question is this :
Is that normal temp? How does Stock didn't heat that much
Tnx and i hope this will help if someone have the same question
Hi,
Your CPU temp is absolutely normal,no worries. And while playing games it's even perfect.
How does Stock didn't heat that much

You're not stock now...
After it depends at what CPU freq you're running, voltage, ambient temperature,etc...but here it's perfect.
I just posted in another users similar thread about their phone getting hot (he said "extremely" hot so hes likely going way past your temps). I too have found my phone to be warmer when running AOKP Build 38. I've run the Stock ROM and LiquidSmooth with Francos Kernel (also tried Provision briefly but it had some issues I couldnt overlook). AOKP gets the hottest by far for me (both at stock CPU and OC to 1420).
I plan on switching ROMs again soon and will take note of temp then
If you use a less feature rich rom you might have less heat issues.
I suggest using the trinity kernel together with a cm9 rom.

Your temps are fine but if you want to find something a little "cooler" try out different combinations. For me, CM9 and Trinity Stable 65 at 1344/384 stays pretty cool while gaming. Ultimately it is going to be a factor of your clock speed. You can adjust the frequency of your CPU back down to 1200 (1190?) and you'll see the temp difference. You might also see it slow down during certain UI interactions. Just play around with it, but your phone is still considered in the safe zone at those temps. They have thermal protection built into the kernels as well so even if something crazy happened your CPU would back off until cooldown and if it can't cooldown, it'll shut off for you but that would be a very rare condition. I've never had it happen and I've ran at 1650Mhz for a long time.
Tnx all for info. Great help!
Hmm it would be nice to get back to Stock but to keep root and maybe to install franco kernel... What you say about that?
It's iritating to play game 5 min or look pic in gallery and to feel heat in phone!
One more thing because I'm new in this stuff :
How to get back to Stock? Is it hard?
Your CPU is probably overclocked, don't worry, as long as it stays UNDER 55 degrees C, nothing will happen, if however, it goes over, it will burn your hand, if you're unlucky, it happened to me, with my GS II...

Hi,
Why under 55°C???
The stock temp limit before thermal throttling is 64°C and in Francisco's kernel it's at 75°C.
And the max before the CPU shutdown is 110°C...The extreme protection and the extreme overheating
So above 55°C no worries...In any case if you don't disable the CPU temp limit (like in some kernels->Morfic,Glados and eventually Francisco but not (yet) in his app) you're good and before 110°C->thermal throttling->lower CPU freq according to the CPU Temp limit.
His CPU temp is actually normal, don't say stays under 55°C....56/57/58/59°C,etc...to 64°C or 75°C,no problem unless you stay at 75°C during 1 hour...
With that you said the guy no longer used his phone for browsing 5 mins in the sun...

55 is a very low number and i would suspect most stock GNexs would go above that routinely under heavy load.
I've had my phone up to 66 and its nowhere near burning. Its warm to the touch and thats about it. Now if you are somehow putting your hand directly on the CPU (i.e. not possible) then yes that might feel much warmer.
Basically if you manage to burn yourself on your phone either its already fried or someone lit it on fire
After playing ShadowGun around 15min I get temp. around 65C?! That is really hot - for me!
I think to get back to Stock... This is way hot for me. What you say about that?
Can anyone post link how to get back to Stock? Guys this is my first android phone and if I get bootloop I will get a heart attack, really I will get one

Honestly don't be afraid of boot loops as you can most likely still get into recovery if that happens and all it takes it's a bad download of a ROM or forgetting that such and such kernel is incompatible. Be afraid of bricks and soft bricks lol. Although if you take the time to read before doing anything you'll be fine. Also just download a sick image for your phone from the tool kit to go back to stock. That's the easiest way.

Hi,
65°C after playing 15 mins of an "intensive" 3D game...I don't see where is the problem...It's absolutely normal...
How can your CPU temp will be at 50/55°C (about, for example) after playing 15 mins of game???
You hope what temperature?
Which cpu frequency?GPU?Undervolt?
Don't focus much on your CPU temp,if it's overheated->thermal throttling...And in extreme situation...just a reboot...
It will be the same thing with the stock kernel, you will get the same temperature under the same conditions (playing)...
Unfortunately that's the way it is right now with dual core phones. My phone regularly gets too hot to even touch when playing games for over 30 minutes. I called to speak with samsung about it and they pretty much brushed it off as normal. I'm running on cm 9 with a franco kernel

overheating galaxy s2 hercules t989

hello. I have a galaxys s2 hercules t989 known as tmobile. the problem is that the cell overheats me much when I use it and when charging too. the same load power cycled only takes 2 days to load. heats up like an oven. someone will know the problem this past me and I can help?
I'm having the same problem, it's not as bad on stock roms as on custom roms not sure why.
I have the original jelly bean I 4.1 and I've put several original and custom rom and is still overheating. I think it is problem of romsfirst
You guys need to check CPU usage
Install CPU usage app and load the timeline (also press the second button to see system apps). You can see which which one is using the most CPU power and terminate it. If that fixes it, you can uninstall or disable that particular app.
ok. result will do that and post them. thanks

Custom ROMS + kernels may have overclocked GPU and CPU for a performance increase. This will cause your phone to get hot. Hot Hot...If you're stock, there is something running in the background as others have suggested. If it's a custom ROM, install something like Trickerster MOD and check to see what your CPU and GPU are set at...Anything over 1512 (CPU) and 266 (GPU) will cause increase in heat due to the processors running past their stock settings.
Governor
If your capable of changing the governor like CM or other Roms with custom Kernal's, find a setting that doesn't use a lot of juice all the time. I keep mine on Smartass or conservative if i'm not using it or charging it. I had the same issue before because I had it set to ondemand or performance. Hope that Helps

NOPE
I have the same problem but it isnt the battery thats heating up, if you take the back cover off, and feel the battery, it is not heating up. I did get this problem when i installed a custom rom, i had issues with that one including the battery life so i switched back to official jellybean 4.1.2 or whatever, and the battery is fine, does still get hot though but not as much, or maybe were all huluscinating

GNEX over clocking questions

I've made a account for this post and sorry if I posted this in a wrong section,
I have a gnex running 6.0.1 android, and its only able to get to 1.65ghz.. But thing is my goal for this phone is to make it feel more faster and more "up to date" with the other phones out there.
I am wanting to use another kernel for over clocking, but I don't know if I have to switch ROMs as this kernel that supports 2.0ghz.. But it was released back in 2013.. GlaDOS kernel is the name of it supposedly.
Can I still use that kernel? And what other stuff can I do to the phone aswell? The phone works fine except it keeps crashing on my or freezing then reboots it self, then I have to take the battery out and back in to have it start up again. Also when ever I turn WiFi on on there it lags my phone like crazy, and drains my battery under 20-30mins I have no charge left.
Anyone have any suggestions or tips? Thanks!
And when it does work fine the temperature CPU, reach well over 70c.. great hand warmer in Canadian winters
I just want the 2.0ghz or anything higher than 1.6 as I need the performance. I can't stand having the phone lagg every day I use it.
