Changing dpi and warranty - Xperia Z5 Premium Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I'm tempted to change dpi to take advantage of 4k screen but wanted confirmation if doing so would void warranty. Also how do you change dpi and do you need to be rooted?
Thanks

Any modifacation voids your warrenty
And to edit your DPI you need to edit /system/build.prop and look for a line that says
"ro.sf.lcd_density=480"
(480 part may differ per user or device)
( i believe 4k dpi is 820)

Hi, how you can do that if there is no rooting for that device?

I dont have a Z5 but Sony Xperia devices typically get a working Recovery shortly after release
I have tried pushing superUser through ADB many times logged in as sudo or root and it has been fine.
You can look up guides on "how to install ADB" and how to push "superSu through Adb"
It may be that my Z2's bootloader is unlocked hence why im able to root it so easily but i havent the time to test the fact.

People are reporting that the camera's features stop working once you unlock the bootloader... Can you confirm this? I believe it was reported that two major camera functions stop...don't know if there is a workaround yet.

Im not sure about how it is with the Z5P
But with my Z2 2 things stopped, post processing and xreality which in my opinion both are a waste of time

You can change you DPI by running
adb shell wm density 400
and reset it by running
adb shell wm density reset
You don't have to root or unlock your bootloader to change screen density.

Yeah the stock launcher won't adapt to the DPI the way you'd think. You could try Nova with the 400 DPI.

what is the consensus what is the best dpi?

Does anyone know when I'm trying to Flash the Eng-Release to the Slide why on step 6 I get permission denied or cdmod not found?
I don't know specifically to this but yesterday while I was rooting I had that happen. I was pushing some files through adb and told me no permissions. I did reboot on phone and computer and it worked the next time. Weird. You may have already tried that but that's all I got and like I said it was not for this specific step. mine was during the root process.

Whaha really Genius!
But rooting can't be far away now..... Because I don't think the Durex is sold out in the super market. I actually think they have a special offer...
It's precisely because of the lack of root access that I've held of unlocking my bootloader; I don't see any point of having to erase all my data and setting up my device when there's no pay-off in the form of root and custom ROMs
Yeah well you never know if SE change their minds and cancel the unlocking website
Better get your gift before Santa takes it back
I will try to convince Marc from MIUI to think about the Arc...
I don't think SE will change it's mind, but the longer you wait, the more adjustments you make on your device (well at least I do..). So that's why I unlocked the bootloader as soon as I had my Arc. Even though I had allready played with it. But what the h*ll, now I had to play a bit longer with it. I don't see the problem
They wont change their mind but the downside of unlocking is that you cannot update using SEUS
Hopefully SE will change that if you use stock firmware but have the bootloader unlocked

I don't see where that's a problem : if you unlock your bootloader, it's because you want to flash custom roms, isn't it ?
Who care about stock update when we get better functionnalities and often faster updates with all the leaks with custom roms ?

FULL Root via Bin4ry

Please check this thread for FULL ROOT of the Xperia M with locked bootloader:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1886460
Some of you who may have owned previous Sony phones may recognise the legendar Bina4y, he has been rooting Sony phones for years.
Just to let you know, root option 1 worked for me. You will see SU installed at the end. This is now the simplest and fullest root available on the Xperia M that I have used.

SharpnShiny said:
If like me and others you had trouble rooting for various reasons and don't want to go to extreme methods just for a simple root, know that there are other options out there!
One that is becoming very popular on XDA, is used on many threads I can confirm works for the Xperia M. One thread is here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2434453
The root procedure is here: http://www.mgyun.com/vroot
It comes from a Chinese source but don't be intimidated if you can't read everything. When you download it, if offers everything in English. It's really simple, a lot like the 'One Click Root' from past versions of Android.

Huh? Have any mods on XDA looked into this? I read a lot of tech news (like many on here) and I keep hearing more positive things about it.
Don't get me wrong, I do not work for them in any way! If Doomlord or any other super-pros get FULL root on this I will happily use it.

Did you try KingRoot? (Not kingO) It worked fine with mine K420N.
Yes. Didn't get even close, even with OEM unlocked mode in dev settings.
ive used kingroot to root mines which it did but the thing is after installing L speed and Root booster i ended up with a Boot verifcation fail, i don't know exactly whether or not the problem was caused by Kingroot or by the other two apps

I just got my new K10 and iRoot did not work, so I tried http://forum.xda-developers.com/android/software/debloater-remove-carrier-bloat-t2998294 and it can at least disable the applications, so root is not so badly needed.
I have the T-Mobile 428 version, I have tried KingRoot, KingoRoot, iRoot, StumpRoot, LG One Click Root and Framaroot on this phone and nothing. I also tried a root method from a dev in XDA, just can't remember the name. It would be nice to have root on this device.

You got it wrong bro most of LG devices specially those running on Android M doesn't support "one click root". Lg K10 can be root by using adb, twrp, and super su package. Using commands in cmd will play a major role.
Follow this thread and look for its 1st page.

Trying to unlock Google Pixel XL

I have installed the adb drivers and it recognized my device and installed drivers. I have enabled debugging. I use the commands for dpixel8. adb push dePixel8 /data/local/tmp
adb shell chmod 755 /data/local/tmp/dePixel8
adb shell /data/local/tmp/dePixel8
It reboots the device but does not reboot into bootloader as it is suppose to. It just reboots into normal mode. Any suggestions. Please give me a step by step on how to unlock and root my phone. Thanks
You have to tick that OEM unlock thing under Dev settings where you enabled debugging. And the command to reboot in bootloader is adb reboot bootloader!
PS: Sorry never mind.

No he does not. He clearly just stated he's using depixel8 which means he's on a vzw pixel. Which means no switching on OEM unlock. Hence using depixel8.
Have you tried doing it a second time.

depixel8 can not unlock the bootloader of a Verizon Pixel once 7.1.1 is flashed onto it, either at the factory or by the update.
Downgrading to 7.1 will not restore the bootloader to the one that depixel8 can exploit.
