I have a Nexus 7 2013 WiFi (Flo) of build number LMY48G currently running 5.1.1. I would like to flash Marshmallow but after some searching I am getting the impression this isn't possible for my build number.
No 6.0.0. image is listed on the official Google images page or on this list compiled here on XDA. However on another Google site, it lists "Nexus 7 (flo/deb)" of build numbers MRA58K and MRA58N having Marshmallow compatibility.
Am I correct in understanding that I cannot flash an image made for MRA58K/MRA58N on my LMY48G because of underlying hardware differences, and that there is no image available for my build? Will this brick my device?
I appreciate the advice, this is only my second time flashing a device and I just got this tablet and dont' want to brick it
LMY48G is just a build number for one of the official lollipop firmware for Flo. There is nothing stopping you from flashing the latest Marshmallow firmware. Just make sure you flash the correct version as there is a 3G (Mobile) version as well. From what you are saying you have the WIFI version for which the latest Marshmallow build is MRA58V.
Please read thoroughly on how to flash official firmware before you do so. It seem to me you may not be very confident in doing this.

Thank you, yes I am using the WiFi version. And you are correct, this is only the second time I've flashed a ROM and the first time was Cyanogenmod with an automatic loader. I will definitely educate myself before proceeding...:good:

Hi Guys,
firstly sorry if this has been answered as i did a few searches but am that out of date now.
I'm currently on LeeDroiD 10 v3.0.0 Beta 3 and still on the old MM firmware.
Last time i was following the threads religiously there was an issue with TWRP not working for the new Nougat firmware (hence why i never updated).
My question now is what is the best way for me to go to the new firmware, TWRP (if it even works wiith the latest firmware) and newest ROM base (of any Nougat ROM as i always keep changing lol).
Thanks

Hey Roshi,
You can flash Viper 10 4.5 (http://venomroms.com/viper10-downloads/), which is an Android N ROM, and it works on Android M firmware (e.g. 1.95.401.4).
Otherwise you could flash this RUU first: https://forum.xda-developers.com/htc-10/how-to/wwe-htc-10-stock-rom-ruu-2-28-401-9-t3525075
It will update your firmware to Android N: 2.28.401.9, and then flash Viper10 4.5. However, it is being said that this RUU was leaked, and therefore it is not the final version that HTC will release to the public, hence it will never receive OTAs.
P.S. I never heard of TWRP not working on this firmware, so I assume it works just fine.

Thank a lot for the reply. I am running LeeDroid Nougat tom on MM firmware currently.
Was just enquiring weather everything is now in place to upgrade properly to Nougat firmware .
Hi all
I'm currently on:
Android Version 5.0.2
ViperOneM8 4.6.1
Kernel Version 3.4.0 ElementalX-m8-4.05-Sense
Baseband Version 1.25.214500021.06G_20.68.4196t.01_f
Build Number 1.40.401.8 CL549783 Release-keys
TWRP Version 2.8.7.0
I'm in the UK and i know that the device is unlocked to all networks so my question is:
(How can i get my device back to complete factory standard with the latest android version available and also unlocked)
PS: Its been so long since I've flashed a custom rom and kernel that unfortunately I've gone to the complete noob cave
If anyone can also point me to the exact files that i require it would be a great help too, And many many thanks in advance.

I'm on an S-ON phone and if I understand correctly one must match his firmware to that the ROM is based on, correct? My question is, then, what ROMs am I limited to since I can't freely install firmware for both CID and MID must match my phone's? I am trying to install the Android Revolution HD ROM which is based on 6.12.401.4_R while being on 4.28.502.1. My CID is CWS__001 and MID is 0P6B12000. The closest I've found is 6.20.502.5. I'm not sure if the 6 stands for Android 6.0 or not. If this is the case, does this mean that simply being on Marshmallow firmware would be enough to flash any Marshmallow ROM? Am I reading into this too much and I can flash whatever I please and firmware is not that important?
You need Marshmallow firmware for marshmallow roms and higher.
6.xx.yyy.xx is marshmallow.
As the previous reply stated, your firmware doesn't have to be the exact same version number. But you typically want it to be the same Android version (in the case you mention: you want Marshmallow firmware for Marshmallow ROM). But also, Marshmallow firmware will work on later ROMs (Nougat and Oreo).

It just happens to be in this case, by coincidence. The software/firmware version numbering used by HTC is sequential based on the release of the device, and doesn't necessarily (or usually) correlate directly to Android version. So it is a bit confusing, and requires some specific knowledge.
For the M8, version numbers 1.x, 2.x and 3.x were all actually KitKat. 4.x is Lollipop. 5.x is Marshmallow for Google Play Edition. And 6.x is Marshmallow for Sense version M8.
Hey so im pretty new to rooting and all. I know that having the proper TWRP recovery image is important and you need the right build number.
Phone model: SM-A505FN
My build number: QP1A.190711.020.A505FNXXS5BTJ4
Android version: 10
I realize maybe its not available yet because the BTJ4 is from the new security patch firmware that was rolled out 1st of November. So maybe it is not available yet? Or maybe its possible to use a different TWRP.
Anyone have the Recovery image of TWRP for this build number or know a compatible one?
Thanks in advance!
Hello together,
I'm currently using AlexisROM (Android 10) and want to try Noble ROM (Android 11) on my Galaxy S9 (G960F). On the how-to theres a point regarding kernel and bootloader: "4. Update your MODEM AND BOOTLOADER BEFORE INSTALLING THIS ROM".
Can someone explain me what that mean in detail for my S9? How can I find the latest Bootloader and Kernel?
My current software details:
Baseband: G960FXXUFFUE1
Kernel: 4.9.118-21637096
Build: AR2.7.1_G960FXXUFFUE1
Thanks in advanced.
Chris
The modem ( CP ) and bootloader ( BL ) comes with your firmware
If your on latest stock firmware then you have the latest version of everything
If on a different rom then flash latest stock rom

Thanks for your reply. I will do that.
Assume that the manufacturer no longer provides firmware updates. Assuming the last update came along with Android 10.
Can I also install newer, custom ROMs with this latest Android (e.g. with Android 11 or soon also Android 12) or what must then be done to ensure that the latest BL and CL are in place?

Samsung devices i believe only get two majors updates to the OS ie: 8 ( original )-9-10. So android version 10 will be the latest that you get, any updates after that will be minor and security.
As for customs roms you will have to look in the rom section for more information.
The latest firmware is G960FXXUGFUG4 ( android 10 ). If you do a full flash you will have to start from scratch again. ie: unlock bootloader, flash twrp etc
