I've never tried it but MyMobiler (http://www.mymobiler.com/) is supposed to work over an IP connection, might be worth a try.

That works fine, it also works if your using the phone as a modem with internet sharing, you just need to find the phones IP

accessing smb shares is a build in capability of windows mobile. it can also be used with the file brower supplied with windows mobile go menu->go to->open path->new path. anyhow the most convenient way to access your pc is HTC's network plugin. it creates folders in "\" that lead to your pc shares. (permanently and application independent)
for the other way round i use the mocha ftp server.http://www.mochasoft.dk/freeware/ftpd.htm

Hey guys, does anyone know if there is an app for the android phones where i can access my shared folders from my windows desktop ??? (the folders which are shared using the right click method in windows xp pro specific)
i can make them accessible through ftp but i use sharing with my laptop and i want to use it with my phone if possible!!!
Estrongs file explorer does windows shares/ftp/bluetooth browsing and streaming. Its free
hmm nice one, i found it on cyrket but it seems that avi files cannot be opened yet but good one...i won't be watching movies over my pc any way cause of the slow connection. thanks vman81
Are you asking for the ability not only to share the files but to stream media files from device to PC?
I love Dropbox! Super easy and you can access your files from your Android device or ANY computer.
Ehm, EStrong File Explorer is very interesting ... Anyone is using it?

If yes, do you think that we still need to have ASTRO? Because I read ASTRO is a very good file manager and app manager, but it does not support this kind of network access (browsing shared folder).
And I dont like to keep 2 similar apps, if you know what I meant.
Thanks

I think ASTRO is mostly for doing stuff like installing apps you have downloaded on your computer, though I dunno whether the other mentioned file explorers give you the possibility to do that as well.

In the other hand, you can just install an other application manager if you don't want 2 file managers

It's a file browser, they're not really going to be that different. So the answer is no, if you want to use the EStrong one you wont need to have Astro installed too.
Try AndroXplorer v.3!
Hi all, I'm using ES File Explorer. Sometimes when I delete a file by using the Nexus itself and afterwards plug it into my computer and I browse using Windows Explorer, the file that was supposedly deleted would still show up. Does anyone know why this is?
its a ES explorer problem?
does any one know a better file explorer?
thankyou
Root Explorer is my favorite.

Probably Windows Explorer is not properly refreshing file/folder listing of your phone. Common problem with the MTP protocol.

I just tried with root explorer, on my brothers nexus... im thinking its a nexus problem,
try it out,
delete any file using your nexus, and look for it using windows explorer immediately after deleted the file on yor phone.
on ES explorer/Root explorer, you wont see the file, but it will stay there on windows explorer

I'm going to say it's a problem with Android's current implementation of MTP. Other MTP/PTP devices such as digital cameras or media players work fine with Windows, in general.
I don't know a way of getting this fixed. Read the guide I link to in my signature for workarounds/more info.

Then you create a folder on your PC which is accessible from the network. With es file explorer you can access it and copy files.
See screenshot
If you want to copy files from your PC to your phone you could make a ftp server with es file explorer.
Atleast that's the way I copy files when they are not too big because cable is faster in copying.
I hope I could help you...

What's the best way to transfer large files between my Nexus 7 and Nexus 5, preferably without wifi?
EDIT: without a computer. without usb-otg and sd card would be nice.
Perhaps bluetooth or NFC?

USB may be best, but I was hoping to find a way for when I don't have that hardware.
Both devices have NFC.

I seem to need an app at both ends. If so, what app do you recommend?
Download superbeam at play store
Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
For that matter, any file manager with a "share" or "send" function should work.
Superbeam on both devices. It's the best for both small and big files. And it's free.
It seems the best way to transfer without external stuff (router, SD card, etc.), is wifi direct.
I could either set up wifi direct and use an appropriate file manager or use superbeam as a one step solution.
