Notifications on app icon - Xperia Z1 Compact Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi there!!
Can someone tell me why the number of notifications on icon apps (badges!?) doesn't appear for lot of apps, like Facebook, messenger and Instagram?
I'm running rooted 5.1.1 stock since few months and i remember that sometimes it appeared, but now it's long time that it doesn't.
Thank you.

If you know what you're doing, you can probably do this - https://forsberg.ax/en/blog/android-notification-badge-app-icon-sony/
Otherwise, I know there's many 3rd party options between Xposed and Play Store. By default, Xperias show badges for a few apps, and not others.

I'm not an expert, so can't say for sure, but if you do this method the wording may not be the same. I just noticed the difference between the example shown and my manifest...
android:value="com.sonymobile.home.HomeActivity"/>
</activity>
<service android:name="com.sonymobile.home.badge.BadgeService"/>
<receiver android:name="com.sonymobile.home.badge.BadgeService$BadgeReceiver" androidermission="com.sonyericsson.home.permission.BROADCAST_BADGE">
<intent-filter>
<action android:name="com.sonyericsson.home.action.UPDATE_BADGE"/>
</intent-filter>
</receiver>
(I didn't put that emoticon in there - I guess there's a part of the text that makes the website think I was trying to do that. It's supposed to say 'permission').

First method seems to be pretty difficult for me.
I'm trying some Xposed Modules, but no One works at the moment.
By the way, i'm almost sure that sometimes the badges appeared on Facebook icon and Messenger too.

Did you already check notification access in settings? It's under 'sound and notification'. Also, there's a paid app called Missed It that might be worth a try...

[ROOT] Enable Notification LED

Hey,
There have been a lot of threads that let you activate the LED on the Moto G4 but none of them allow you to use it as a notification light.
Here is an app called "Moto Led Enabler" - Download(PlayStore)
The usage is pretty simple and straight forward-
1. Install the app and open it.
2. Grant the root permissions.
3. Grant the notification access from withing the app.
4. Select the applications for which you want to be notified.
Note:
1. The intensity slider doesn't work so the LED would glow at a constant intensity.
2. The app needs to be in memory in order to work so if you restart the device open the application once so that it can run in the background.
Thread about an app that does the same thing, without any ads, was published on June 10:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/mot...to-enable-led-moto-g4-plus-exclusive-t3396120

All other apps including the one you gave the link to will only work for charging and power purposes only. They don't provide you the facility of having app specific notifications.
This thread focuses on using the LED as a notification LED instead of a charging LED.
-----Update-----
This app makes the LED actually useful instead of making it glow only when the power is connected

The app by default automatically selects any newly installed application, I haven't faced this problem so can't say. Did you by any means clear the app data or something??

You're welcome. You can try contacting the app developer, maybe he can fix it.
I bought a G4 a few days ago without knowing that some phones like this have done away with the "must-have" notification LED that I depend on so much. I've only had this app installed for a few hours (and have had the G4 and Android N for not much longer), so I may not have discovered some quirks yet, but it does work. I don't understand why Play Store reviews are so poor, but I assume it's because a lot of people are unrooted (root requirement should have been mentioned by dev in the description even though it's pretty obvious, but whatever). Anyway, thanks for sharing, OP. I'm still kind of in shock that an app is needed to have a notification light on this phone, but since it is, this app is a godsend.
its not blinking.. the light is on constantly till the notification is cleared..
LightFlow works great. I put up these directions a few days ago..

Screen Overlay Detected

If this is in the wrong thread then please move to correct one.
Has anyone else had issues with this... I'll call it problem, but by the way it behaves, it seems more like its a bug.
It has only been something I've seen on Marshmallow. Try to install an app, and its 50/50 whether or not you get "screen overlay detected"
Try to give an app permission, "screen overlay detected".
I should also point out that it isnt just restricted to HTC. My partners (now apparently ticking time bomb) s7 has also had the issue
You can disable as many screen overlays as you like, it still doesnt go away.
I've noticed now, too, that anytime a chat head from facebook messenger is on screen when I try to do something like install an app, it will spit out that problem until I close the chat head. Which was never an issue, ever, before.
Where has this thing come from and why is it even a problem for Android?
Those chat heads on the messenger as well as light filters, as e.g. CF.lumen, are always screen overlays. Those overlays could read out the whole screen, and thus as well what you're typing into banking apps or similar. Thus Google updated the privacy policy of their devices in Marshmallow, ending up in this specific error message. Sometimes it's enough to just turn the screen overlay of via settings > apps, regarding Apps like FB Messenger, CF.lumen, and the like, on other times and Apps you got to reboot the device after done so, or disable the overlay within the Apps settings as well, and seldomly you got to uninstall such an App to get the problem sorted for the time being. At least that's what I could find out searching the web.

It's so malicious apps don't replace the install button with something else (like an install button to install something else).
It's quite clever if you think about it.

In theory I would say it's clever. In practice, it doesn't distinguish between safe apps that are harmless and those that aren't.

How does the system know if an app is safe or not..?

Since Facebook messenger (and pretty much all my apps, most of which don't even have screen overlays but are in the list for it) was downloaded from Google play, I would imagine it isn't difficult to implement a system that flags it as safe.
If an app is installed via an apk, even if it is safe, I would understand more the need for concern. You never know, etc.

It would be difficult to implement a system like that. You never know which app is fake or real. Maybe it was a modified version of the app, you'll never know.
Either way, the feature is there and if you want to install an app just quickly turn off your overlay. Not exactly a big problem.

Ads after every call?

I've been getting a small pop-up add, usually from Microsoft, after every call I make. Anyone else getting them or know how to stop them?
Do you have any Microsoft related apps installed on your phone?
think about what apps youve installed in the past
go through them one by one and figure it out

You're right, it was a Microsoft app, Outlook. It's strange though, I had it installed on my Oneplus One and I never got the adds. Maybe it was the latest update or something.
Edit: The ads came back after uninstalling Outlook.

Its not apps. Its a website you visited that's spamming you. Clear your history and cookies all that good stuff and it should get rid of the problem.
I had the same issue and this is what I was told
That's how I solved this issue on my LG V20 running Nougat:
Go to:
Settings / General / Google Services / Ads / Opt out of Ads Personalization
My 2 cents

[APP] All in One Gestures

Really a great gestures app to mimic iOS gestures. I use the navigation gestures option because I could not deal with the navigation bar not matching my keyboard. The gestures work pretty well and I got used to them, but I did not like the Back option. Too many times trying to go back ended up with me opening recents or going home.
I really wanted a gesture to swipe the screen from left to right to go back and this app allows me to. Works great with a few customization options. It was removed from the playstore but the apk can still be sideloaded
https://www.apkmirror.com/apk/ys-liang/all-in-one-gestures-2/all-in-one-gestures-2-5-9-release/
Thanks for sharing. IMHO The OnePlus gestures are the best I've tried on any phone. The more options there are, the better off we are.
Thanks for sharing, I love the Swype from the left to go back feature
Hey Guys, if you wan't, you can also try an app called 'Fooview', which is available in playstore (No need Root access) and its amazing, you can set the swipe option from right to left for back in this app as well. it also comes with a browser, file manager, and allow to take screen short of any specified portion on your screen. It will also help to convert the 'letters' in an image to edit/copy. The main advantage is it work with very less battery drain and comes with small in size. this is one of the best app I have ever used. and I'm using this for the last 2 Years. Just try it, it is amazing.

Never mind, Ignore it. It will work perfectly.
I found both of these apps to be scetchy and not any good.
I rather sugest the app called Fluid Navigation Gesture on play store.
It gives you the Miui10 Navigations that work great without any overlay or stuff like that.

Yea, but this will work perfectly without giving the location permission. And this app is available in play-store, which is verified by the google, then will it be a malicious app ?

There are many apps which get through the checks. Check the news, you'll find many articles about google removing app from the play store every now and then.
Even a seemingly trustworthy app can do a lot of harm. Even if the app is a bit sketchy its better to stay away from it.

I find the navbar gestures severely lacking. Swipe from left or right edge up for back? On which planet? Ever tried this swipe on Chrome with a longish text loaded? All you get is a scroll back and not back. Or maybe I am misunderstanding the directions. How difficult is it to add a graphic to illustrate?

If RAM mgmt has been an issue for you, you need to...

update to Oct patchset. I have some awesome news!!! The Oct patchset fixes the Ram mgmt issue on Pixel devices for good. Looks like it was a leak in System UI.
I have tried to reproduce my bug and I can start as many apps as I want and it does not lock up anymore. You can refer
https://source.android.com/security/bulletin/pixel/2019-10-01
for more details.
Edit: I could keep about 20 apps, including camera, firefox, whatsapp, slack, gmail, messages, photos, play store, amazon shopping and so on. They stay put on my Pixel3XL!! Awesome!
Wow. So it took Google just a year to fix this?

Better late than never right.
So how exactly should this feature behave? I've never understood.
It should stay in the Recents drawer and not reload the app when re-opening?

Not a feature. If this is true (what the OP is stating), this is how the phone should have behaved on day one. But yes, the apps should remain open after "re-opening" them from your app drawer.

Yes... I also noticed opening camera app doesn't kill my background apps (like Spotify, Google play music, GPS tracking sw) as often like before... Let's see if this keeps....
Anything like that for pie? Like, a fix I mean...
Any magisk module to help with that? Or something?
