I heard at best buy (sales associate) that replacement batteries will somehow screw your phone up. Is there any truth to this whatsoever? I'd love to get a replacement with double the capacity.

They can if they are made completely wrong. Which if you buy cheap chinese crap batteries its more likely you will get what you pay for. Ive used ALOT of aftermarket batteries and have never had anything weird with them, normally just less mah.
Well, a battery is a battery. The cheaper ones probably have more potential to explode in your pocket...but if it's putting out the same current as a stock one, the phone really shouldn't be able to tell the difference.
Anyone find a high capacity battery they could recommend? Did you need a new back cover? If so where did you get it or did you just go without a back cover?

I was hoping to get a recommendation on one of the 2000mah batteries, but if I could win it cheaply, it'd be worth checking out. Maybe I'll buy one of those wall chargers too. I could easily carry the extra battery in my wallet.
Thanks!
I never saw a 2000mah battery. I want to let you know, don't expect what you see in the picture. Those 1500mah ones are probably unbranded. It doesn't make a difference, as long as they work, I guess.

Just won the auction and got them for 9.50 plus 4.99 shipping. The ones pictured appear unbranded as well. They don't say HTC. And if they aren't actually yellow, it doesn't matter. Until someone makes a clear back plate, no one will see.
Thanks again!!

I'm a lil weary of those cheap non branded extended life batteries. If you go on amazon and read some of those reviews the users complain about this batteries not working after a certain amount of recharge cycles. The best off brand to trust has been seidio. Other than that just go oem. With a price that low it sounds like you could end up spending another $9.50 in a couple more months. Now, I love my ebay but that sounds too suspect.

This is the seller's exact response when I asked him about returns.
'you can return it anytime if you done think the battery is what you exoected
but you will need to pay to ship it back
thank you'
I'm weary of buying them too, but he did say I can return 'anytime' and I plan on holding him to that word. If I get them, I'll test them with a voltmeter each week and ship them right back. Even if it's 6 months later haha.
Well I got them already... They seem to last longer than the stock battery. Who knows if it will last, but they are good now.
Glad I made the purchase.

How much longer we talking about? Just a couple hours?
Yeah... Just a couple hours. I'm not saying it is significantly better than OEM. I'm just saying it will work great as a backup. I also got a wall charger so one battery will be kept in my wallet as a backup and I will charge them both each night.

The reviews I've seen on these cheap batteries always seem to indicate that they aren't actually what they say they are rated, and testing shows that they don't last as long as the OEM batteries.
After a few days of use, I do not see much difference between stock 1200 and this 1700. Only payed 9.99 with free shipping, so not bad for a spare battery.

Don't believe the hype. It's pretty hard to make a battery with a higher capacity that is cheaper and is the same physical size. These batteries are compressed into these small packages and to increase the capacity without using more cells or larger cells, would constitute using more exotic materials, which would cost more. At best, these batteries are equal to OEM, but most are lower grade knock offs. The best application for any of these batteries is backup use
I bought 2 1500's for $20 off of Ebay.and yes i do see about about 2-3 difference with them.. no its not much of a difference but they do actually work.. so the hype is real..
i've always been wary of buying batteries, particularly laptop batteries, online.
ie safety/actual capacity/quality
is there a similar issue for phone batteries?
There is a company called Anker that makes high quality - high capacity aftermarket batteries for phones, however, I don't think they have one for ours yet.
I'm a little gun shy to buy aftermarket batteries again...
My experience with Anker Batteries:
I had one for my MT4GS and although it did last much longer, I kid you not it does something really weird to the phone. Call me crazy, but I had random people confirm this with their very own eyes. If you've experienced this too, you know exactly what I'm talking about.
1. Like I said, I kid you not, when I put in the higher capacity battery, it made the screens color look more washed out and blurry. Crazy, crazy I know, but it's darn true. Has anyone else experienced this?
2. For whatever reason, the phone would freeze often as well, whereas before with the OEM battery, everything was fine. I had to pull the battery almost 2 times a day to restart it from a freeze.
Interesting....
I was looking for an extended battery for this phone as well but when I searched for the Anker brand as I have it for another device, they all said not compatible with the AT&T or T-Mobile version.
http://www.amazon.com/s/ref=nb_sb_s...msung+galaxy+s2&x=0&y=0&sprefix=anker+samsung
The batteries for the international version are a different size than ours so no, they won't work.
also the other batteries might not come with the NFC
if you don't mind losing the NFC feature on the phone, then you can use the 2000 mAh original batteries from samsung

this means i can chance the phone skin any time i want without worrying about losing NFC
i saw many nice back covers for the Nexus S but couldn't change it as they do not include the NFC antennae on the aftermarket back covers for the Nexus S

Tmobile Galaxy S2 has the same battery as what...?
I'm looking to get a spare battery and external charger for my S2. Looking for anker or chichitec, what other device has the same compatibility as ours. Which ones will fit?
You may have a hard time finding cheap batteries for this phone because the NFC antenna is built into the battery. If you do find one, there's a chance your NFC will suffer because of it. If you don't use NFC, that may not be a problem. I on the other hand, use it daily.
The Samsung Infuse has the same battery.

does the cheap one from ebay include NFC ?
Extra set of quality batteries?
Has anybody here bought a quality battery from ebay? there are batteries ranging from 10 dollars to 40 dollars and I'm just wondering if any of them are good? i don't want such an expensive extra battery but i also don't want a cheap battery that will mess up my phone.. speaking of which, can a bad battery mess up a phone's internal system? Thanks for the responses.
if possible, provide a link to the ebay listing or just tell me what i should specifically search for.
i'll suggest buying the real Samsung batteries if you can afford $40

thanks allgamer for the response. the thing is i can't afford the $40. should i just wait till a quality replacement battery comes to market? i used to have an htc pro and i bought cheap batteries on ebay for it that came in handy and worked well but my phone eventually died out (screen does not turn on all the time but it might be a wiring problem and not a battery problem). i was hoping there was a similar economically viable option for the galaxy s 2.
it might take a bit
because these news batteries comes with the NFC
so the cheap ones in ebay or where ever they don't usually include the NFC
I doubt it. And the Infuse has a lower mAh

i don't really need NFC with the extra set of batteries. NFC's potential hasn't been fully realized yet and i don't have much use of it as of now.
one question though.. if i buy those cheap batteries on ebay, will it destroy my phone because of incompatibility issues?

Actually, I've bought 4 cheap batteries already. 2.50 each one! In my honest opinion, they are so worth it. I have one battery now dedicated to draining(for all my daily uses), then I have all my other batteries for back ups. I've honestly never even used NFC since I've got this phone so I really don't see the point in buying an original Samsung battery for like 40 dollars+. Cheap batteries are the way to go my friend :good:
Just try playing games or anything power intensive and just feel the heat the S3's putting off.
Now the S3 battery cells are designed to handle high drain but these cheapo $2 things aren't rated for anything close to the power the S3 sucks in so they gonna give off a butt load of heat and start to expand with cells dying and the battery might go pop and destroy the phone.
So if you wanna risk a £500 phone to save a few Dollars over a decent battery then it's no good crying to us when Samsung decides you invalidated your warranty.

Uhmm. Even with the official battery you have that heating up problem. It's already a known existing problem the S3 has. Don't blame the batteries. I've been using those "cheapo" batteries for months now. And I play a crazy amount of games on my phone. (Amazing Spider-Man, Asphalt 7, Dead Trigger, NOVA 3, Playstation Emulator, etc.) Don't believe this guys post, lol.
I would suggest going for other replacement batteries like those from Anker that are cheaper than the original Samsung ones, but I too am pretty skeptical about those really cheap $2 ones.

I would agree with this, all it takes is one battery not designed to take the heat from an intensive game and it can go pop the original Samsung battery can handle the heat which is why it's safe and getting some slightly cheaper will be safe, super cheap ones may not be though.

I would strongly reccomend against buying any cheap batteries off eBay. I recentley purchased a spare battery for my Samsung Nexus S and the new battery seems to have totally fried my phone. I would hate for anyone to go through the amount of stress I am just over a simple thing like a battery.
Think about it... you are putting a very cheaply made piece of hardware in a very expensive piece of hardware... which do you value more?

Exactly.
You stick an El-Cheapo battery in a little MP3 player and it's fine because it draws so little power you not even slightly stressing the battery, but the S3 is a serious and expensive piece of hardware that gobbles up the power and pushes these cheap batteries beyond their limits so obviously it's gonna go wrong for some people.
I mean people are saying because they had no problems with old phones then they'll have no problems but the S3 is sucking up close to 1/3 more power than the S2 yet still using the same crappy cells, so if anyone has the slightest sense they'll spend a few Dollars more to protect their phone.
You should always go OEM. If not you could try the more reputable extended batteries. I prefer Seidio. Cheap cells are never true to capacity. In most cases the OEM capacity is higher than the "rated" capacity of cheap cells.
Thank you all for your opinions!
After reading all you replies I decided to NOT use the cheap battery I got, I rather pay some extra bucks for a battery and be sure it wont brake my 600€ phone. I´m probably going to get a original samsung battery to have as a spare.

What phone do you have? Does it have a built-in battery (like iPhone) or a changeable battery(e.g. Samsung)?
If your phone has changeable battery, you can actually have another one if you like. It costs less than $15 from a third party.
If you own an iPhone type, an external battery charger or a battery case would be the only way. I personally prefer an external one since the battery case adds too much weight and destroy the sensational design the phone has. And as you said, they charge a lot due to an exquisite workmanship. Otterbox is the leading brand in this type of case, they provide waterproof, dustproof cases which is awesome if you are a backpacker. Their price is therefore pretty high(over $70).
Another option is to get an external battery charger, which is what I'm doing. I have an iPhone 4S and I have a RavPower 14000mAh external battery charger. I choose this brand because they have a reasonable price and a few of my friends has introduced it to me.
There're some other high-end brands in this like Mophie, Mipow, they sell $15 more than the one I have. So if you prefer a luxury one, you may consider theirs.
I think you can get all of those batteries from amazon.
