Well i am new to the forums so hello everybody.
I have been due for an upgrade for quite some time now, have just been waiting around because i figured there would be a new phone to be released soon enough.
Now that the samsung galaxy s3 is released and everyone seems to make good reviews on it i was thinking about getting it.
is there any phones out there that are better then the galaxy s3 right now? On sprints network? Or should i just go with this phone.
My parents and a couple freinds own the s2 and they say they love it.
is the s3 alot better and faster then the s2? Also will jellybean be released as an update on the s3? or will i have to install a custom rom.

The SGS3 is currently the best phone available on Sprint or any other network, especially if you plan to root & modify it. The bootloader is already unlocked so there is no "hacking" required to root it.
I own both the SGS II Epic 4G Touch & the GS III, there is no comparison really the GS III is hands down better in every way.

Best phone on Sprint. Only phones close are iPhone 5, HTC EVO 4G LTE, & Photon Q.
Yes on both.....S3 is a "galaxy" better than the S2 and JB is coming to the Sprint version very soon. Probably in next few months if I had to guess.

And that is pretty cool that the bootloader is already unlocked i am going to go to the sprint store today or tomorrow before work and see if i can come home with a galaxy s3 going to play with it at the shop first but i am sure i will fall inlove thank you for your feedback much appreciated.
Very glad that i found this forum.

Sweet that makes me happy, jellybean looks amazing i put a custom rom on my evo 4g that was jellybean but it was unstable so i went back to ics.
i am sure the s3 will not dissapoint me it looks like it is an amazing phone and everybody says good things about it.
The only other phone I would consider is one of the HTC WP8 devices. Those aren't released yet, or even confirmed as far as Sprint is concerned. That's honestly the only thing I can think of right now.

That will probably be a while until release then, i will just stick with the s3 since it seems to be a good reliable phone.
well i have the evo 4g lte and gs3 performance wise atleast from bench marks. evo score higher but they feel the same speed wise. Evo take better picture but gs3 not to far behind. The evo screen is also crisper . But the gs3 is more user friendly out the box took sec to root and start flashing. With the evo i had to use a online dev tool to unlock it and lose warranty. Gs3 battery is removable and battery life on both is about the same. As much as i like the evo the gs3 is just a tad better more options and better development. Lte is also fast too on both and it don't drain the batteries like i heard it would.

I recently owned the Samsung Galaxy Epic 4G Touch or the S II as it's commonly known as, and I thoroughly enjoyed that phone. My daughter was eligible for an upgrade so I upgraded her to the S III, when I go the phone, I activated it to my number and gave her the S II (she had the Samsung Moment so the SII was an upgrade for her)
Even thought I thoroughly enjoyed the SII I like the SIII even better. It has a larger screen, faster processor and more internal memory. NFC is a great feature, I like to use S-Beam and WiFi Direct on it... pop-out video is a neat feature too... overall I would say this is the best phone currently on Sprint I can't believe someone would actually suggest the steamrolled iPhone 5.. we all have our opinions though
Saying that, In my opinion, I would wait a little longer to see if the Galaxy Note 2 comes to Sprint. Samsung has used some of the features in the S III in the Note 2 and added features to the Note 2. If you're okay with a bigger screen, which I am okay with, waiting for the Note 2 might be worth the wait.
I've also read good things on the upcoming Nokia Lumia 920 Windows Phone 8 too.. I'll stick to Android OS based devices though
I am currently using Windows 8 on all my computers and would really like to see how the Windows 8 UI Tiles handle on a touchscreeen devices...
Again, the Note 2 and Lumia 920 aren't out on Sprint yet and you did ask for advice on phones that are currently available.

Agreed with @elephant007, the Note is worth waiting for and it comes out, supposedly, in a few weeks to US carriers.
Apparently, Sprint will have it next month

It wont be long and my upgrade be here. So I was wondering if I should get this or the s3. I like this one and the fact that is a quad-core and samsung have the same build hardware on all of the note 2. But I also like all the gestures features from the s3

I know I went to see the phone at the store it huge! I didnt know it have all the gestures features like the s3 because they were never announced. Like automatic calling somebody from text by just put your phone in the ear, Smartview. Screenshot by swiping your hand on the screen, etc etc. Those features really caught my eye. but wasnt sure if the note 2 have them. I guess I'll go with the note 2. Thanks guys

Ill tell you what. after using it my s3 feels tiny . almost iphone 4 tiny ........ Btw get the note Trust me i have both
I hate to stir the pot, and I know that it hasnt been talked about yet, but if your upgrade is not here yet and u have some time to wait I would wait for the Galaxy S 4. Now wait! Let me explain! I am currently the very proud owner of the Note 2 with T mobile. This is the best phone on the market, with all of the great Hardware with excellent software to match. I mean the innovation and true attention to detail is unmatched. But I have read some rumors, yeah rumors, that the S4 will be a beast also in a smaller form. I love the huge screen of the Note 2, but you are trying to choose between the Note 2 and S3 so I take that to mean that you are on the fence and the extra screen size really isn't that important. Maybe the power is what u are seeking. Word on the street is that the S4 will bring in new tech, edge to edge screen, quad core, 1080p screen, 2gb ram, new software features, and new design. These things are not outside of the realm of reality and as we can all see Samsung is on a roll. I think this year they found their groove, and they can only get better from here. They are suppossed to announce this sometime end of January and into February. I say all this to say, if u are thinking Note 2 vs. S3. Don't do it as the S3 is so last year. The note 2 is basically the precursor to what we can expect for 2013. Think more like Note 2 vs. S4
Written from my Beast T Mobile Note 2
Also not that its much different but the S3 will NOT be getting LTE on tmobile from what I've heard and the Note will get LTE. Now as far as the Nexus 4, the biggest issue is that it's made by LG Booooo!
Sold my s3 for this phone. No regrets.
From the Best: Note 2
Yeah that is a dissapointed for me too Nexus 4 from LG gosh. I had the G2X and LG support sucks. Really guys I am a little nervous I have the S2 but it have a lot of problems with the noise reduction where other people hears an echo. And if you flash aosp rom or miui they say you sound like underwater and there is not a fix really. I really like how samsung did with their TW but I dont want another samsung and is going to have the same problem as my s2 with call quality. But The s3 and the note2 are really good phones!! The S4 announced in Jan or Feb? The s2 and s3 were announced late of year. I think its too soon for them to release the S4 and by the time i think it will I will have another upgrade lol. The big screen doesnt bother me. When I got my S2 it was big and at first it was wow. But then if I play with another phone like the Amaze It feels weird because of all the small icons. lol

The Note 2 is a different level then the S3, has all the same features and more, and has a much better processor then the S3. It's just about whether the screen size is too big for you.
And I wouldn't worry about waiting for the S4 or Note 3. The S4 might be announced at MWC but I don't think that will happen so soon and the Note won't have a sequel till at least Oct-Nov of next year. Then it'll take at least 2-4 months before the first US carriers get them. So the Note 2 will be king of the hill for quite some time, barring HTC's Dlx when it comes out.
noted for future reference on my Note 2
Either you have been living under a rock, or... who knows. This video will answer your questions, and pretty much make up your mind for you. It's long, but thorough.
Colfustion's Review of the Samsung Galaxy Note 2
And to the bloke who recommended waiting for the S 4... just stop. Recommending non existent hardware just makes you sound silly. It will have a processor similar to the Note 2, a smaller screen, no S-Pen... etc. Not a very good comparison.
I've got both.. and honestly can't make a decision - have to sell one - need the cash.
GOing back to the S3 from the Note, it feels positively TINY...
but, the Note really does feel big; and I've got pretty big hands... whether its too big or not, I guess its partly personal choice and partly ease of use - I don't think I can honestly say that the Note 2 is always easy to operate with a single hand -
Also, to be honest, the alternate rom scene, at least for the T-Mobile Note 2, is pretty limited - I'm not sure if there'll be any "original" android development for it as I guess to make use of the S-pen etc, a vanilla android rom just wouldn't have the features (I'm only guessing here). Most of the rom development would be those "de-bloated/de-odexed/zip aligned" versions of stock TouchWiz rom which claim to mysteriously give longer battery life. I'm currently on the Jedi Rom on my Note 2 and not really sure how different it is to the stock rom.
On my S3, I've got Task's Rom, and it truly made a huge difference to the battery life - to the point I'm comfortable returning to the standard Samsung battery form the extended Hyperion 4200 mAH one I had bough due to the horrible battery life the S3 has (on cellular internet) when on the stock rom - with Task's rom, there is a marked, appreciable improvement in battery life.
Right, coming back, I still can't figure out which one to keep and which one to sell - I'm pretty sure, whichever decision I take, I'll regret it cos both the S3 and Note 2 are really and truly excellent products!!!.

The phone has been out for less than a month in the US. I think the ROMs will come, in time. Plus, the battery in the Note 2 is amazing... ever try running the battery down to 5% on purpose? It's actually harder than I thought it would be! That's the beauty of the Note 2; the battery is big enough, by itself, that minimal changes are needed to constantly see 24+ hours on one charge. I have had both the S3 and now the Note 2, and I would never recommend an S3 over the Note. The S-Pen alone is > any wizbang S3 thing out there!

I wasn't making a point about the Note's battery life - it really is pretty good - what I waas trying to say was, the S3 alternate ROM scene is very vibrant; the particular ROM I've got currently make a noticeable diff. in battery life; based on my guess work I'm not very sure if the same would happen for the Note.
Seems like all of the Note 2 series including the international one are the same hardware. Why not make it a worldwide phone with a universal radio. or Like on my Sensation? I may be wrong but in any case do like the tmobile version of the s2 and the skyrocket which are very similar phones

I have been stoked with my i9300 now for almost a year (Running custom OMEGA ROM 4.1.2) and am considering the new S4.
Of course it goes without saying that i fully intend on running a custom ROM on that too, but just wondering if i could hear from anyone that has recently gone from S3 to S4 and would like to share any tips or thoughts. In particular in relation to the custom ROM/rooting matter.
Cheers

I have had all the variants of the Galaxy S devices from the S1 to the S4.... I have ran just about every custom rom there is available for each of them.... I used the S3 the longest and was very impressed with the evolution of the devices...I have done about every mod you can do to the S3 and loved the style and the performance overall...Comparing it the the latest and greatest S4 I'm glad I upgraded.. The screen is amazing and once I started running CM 10.1 the speed and snappiness are a huge improvement over the S3... I have been running Cm 10.1 nightly's since I got mine in the mail and already I have fewer bugs than I ever did on the S3.... I normally don't run CM however roms are in short supply...I'm very impressed with the stability that CM offers already and would recommend it to anyone on the SGH-M919...To answer your question I would highly recommend you upgrade to the S4.....
P.S. The larger battery isn't just for show I get great battery life and I'm a heavy user!
s4 is bigger and faster than s3. nothing else, i think.
use 9300 almost one year
i also upgraded from the i9300, there is quite a bit of improvement -
1. screen is way better
2. camera way better
3. although I haven't tried every new feature yet, but I'm now using the air view feature quite often (the finger hovering)
X. temporarily cures my new-phonitis, prognosis is good for another year.
Lets just say that the S4 is definitely not worse than the S3, and nearly everything is a bit better, with an extra feature here or there. Take for example, the Camera app. It's much improved with more features - hands down it is probably the best camera app for a smartphone. The question is really if it's worth the upgrade. If you can manage to sell your old S3 to fund for the S4 (and don't have to add too much extra out-of-pocket), then why not upgrade? If you like the latest and greatest, trying out all the new features and hardware with custom ROMs and MODs, why not? If you are a regular consumer who's not into any of that stuff I just mention, then probably you should stick with the S3.
I've also gone S2 -> S3 -> S4. So far, I'm mixed on it. The screen is much nicer, and the additional Touchwiz features are useless since I disable them (lag) and they're only in stock apps which I rarely use. The main reason I can see to upgrade is the camera - it's FAR improved. But other than a nicer screen, maybe a little speed (not really noticeable if you have your S3 tweaked well) and the camera it's mostly the same. I got mine for free, but if I had paid significantly for it I'd have to admit to myself it was for the latest and greatest, but not for a particularly good reason. And I'm a huge early adopter.
Went from s3 to note 2 to s4 I think Im going back to the note 2...s4 is good but I've told my friends its not worth the extra money to upgrade to a s4..Honestly the screen is nice but it's not a huge jump from 720 to 1080, also I've gotten really bad battery life but then again I'm not running any roms or anything. Either way unless your due for a upgrade I dont think its worth the money going from the note 2 to s4 would cost me 300 extra I'd rather wait for a bigger jump.
As mentioned, if you're paying outright $629 for the phone it isn't worth it in my opinion unless $ is not an issue for you. The benifits obvious would be slightly better camera (s3 is already great), slightly bigger screen (you wont even notice), 1080p (not much different to me), quadcore (on custom roms and kernel, this may not matter as much), and LTE. Other features are just pluses but you may not use as much as you'd think. S4 IMO is a step up not a big jump from the s3.

I came from the S3 being as I suck with technology I just run the phones stock
so just going by stock I must say that the S4 is much better I just love the overall feel, look of the phone better screen, camera, faster
I got the gs3 initially as a phone I could keep for years and be good with, but now I am thinking the gs4 is that phone. 1080p screen won't be changing any time soon, I like the size, and it has lte. So I'm thinking of upgrading to the gs4, and then chilling with that for at least 4 years or more. I'm not a switch all the time type of person as long as what I have can take advantage of what's available.

I am just curious .... i was pretty sure the S4 has some cool built-in features (for example in the camera features) that none of the S3 4.2.2 ROM builds have seemed to have.
Or am i perhaps imagining this?
I'd do the S3
S3 is the choice
I did the same....
In April of this year I bought the s3 and in June I bought the s4... I no regrets or complaints on the s4... I'm always getting bugged by friends telling me are you getting s5 next week...

I actually have moved onto the S4 from the S3. The S3 was only about 6 months old before i decided to get the S4. Formerly loyal to iPhone until the iPhone 3. Later moved onto HTC variants and never really liked Samsung devices. After the death of my One S, by impulse, purchased an S3. Wonderful phone but the lag was noticeable. After using a S4, instantly fell in love with it. The display is just amazing, the design is a bit better (slight changes from S3, but feels better to hold). Snapdragon 600 (enough said). After switching to Apex launcher, all the transitions and animations were lag free and smooth. A month later with the S4, it still runs as if i just took it out of the box. We all know that the S3 had rather ugly accessories, but the new cases that are out for the S4 have better design aesthetics. I would totally recommend switching to the S4 is you're financially stable and have the desire to purchase a new device.
I have a question for S3 / S4 users.
When you access your RAM tab in Task Manager, how much memory are you generally using?
On my S3 i am almost always using around 700+ of my 828MB. Even when i clear the memory I am still using around 650MB or so.
Is this normal?
And i am keen to know how much memory the S4 users are using.
Cheers
Can anyone help me out here?
I am looking at getting a Galaxy S2 for my little bro with T-mobile. He is not really big on apps and doesn't care much about Specs really. Just something that has reasonably good call quality, he can text on and download apps on when needed.
It is either this Galaxy S2(which is like 2 years old) or the new Galaxy S Light that is a midrange T-mobile phone that just came out. WHile Price is not a major issue he really does not need a phone like HTC one or Sony Z or the newer galaxies.
IS this still a good buy? It's currently going for free on T-mobile so i was just curious.
Are there any glaring issues with the Galaxy S2?
Definitely worth it, this is one of the best android devices you can get. I know people that have come back to this phone from the S4, it has a great camera and is still getting AOSP updates regularly, in fact the Devs just starting posting Kit Kat ROMs the other day.

Im eligible for an upgrade. After thinking about it, I think the camera is my most used function after the phone itself. That being said, I'm trying to get opinions of people who have switched from Samsungs to LG's.. I'm considering the LG G3 vs. Samsung Galaxy 5 vs. Note3. I've watched reviews and read articles. Looking to get the respected views of the XDA community before I pull the trigger.

yes I am very happy with the LG G3 phone find this to have much better connection performance than the Samsung Note 3 as well as the size is very decent and the actual screen size is not that different
the camera performance is also exceptional especially in low light conditions I find this to be much superior

Came from S3 to G3. I played with my buddys S5 and was very disappointed in the size to screen ratio. On top of that, the whole knox thing, so i am happy that i dont have a samsung phone anymore.
Galaxy S5 looks like a kiddies toy compared to the G3
The camera on the G3 is amazing. I love this phone so much better then my Note 2.
I came from the Samsung Galaxy s4. Couldn't be happier with my decision. Better signal, nicer screen to device size ratio, better software than TouchJizz, and I know lots of ppl are complaining about the lag and the 801 not being ready for 1440p screen but I haven't had any issues and it's been way nice. No more lag than the s4 I had to go to a gpe ROM to get rid of it on the s4. Overall I love it and an glad I made the switch.

Came from a nexus 4 and a sgs2 before that. I'm probably not as picky about things as others. Being that I am on t-mobile and can flash roms that are out there I'm pretty happy with the phone. Any complaints I had about the phone before installed the zone rom are gone. I don't care about battery because I'm usually near power. So all in all happy.

I believe the S5 is a great device after rooted and with a custom ROM (Snapdragon version, Exynos is a big load of crap). The pictures come out better on the S5 but don't trust in the waterproof feature (it's my honest opinion). The G3 is an excellent device and feels more solid and responsive, but the developer community is still a little slow (due to locked bootloader), but I think it'll get a lot better with time.

I love my G3 but I miss my s5 at times, but mainly for my gear 2 watch. The G3 is IMO the perfect compromise between the nexus five and the s5. It's more or less what I expected from the s5 before I found out it was a incremental upgrade of the s4 which was an incremental upgrade of the s3. I too am looking forward to a bootloader solution. That being said I find that the G3 still needs a little fine tuning but I'm glad to be rid of Samsung. They ain't gettin no more of my money, for their phones that is.
Coming from a Galaxy S4 and still using the Note 3.
I didn't think the S5 had enough improvements to warrant an upgrade from a S4.
The only downside is that the International G3 D855 has a locked bootloader whereas my old S4 didn't. I had no fears of Flashing whatever to my S4 and if I ever messed up, it is only a few buttons of pressing from Recovery. I can't do that with my G3. I am very cautious on what I change/modify on my G3. Other than that, I love my G3
Had Samsung for a long time. Since G2, I never looked back. G3 is a huge improvement and I like how its closer to Google experience than Sammy or G2.
Plus when I heard LG was one of the companies signing up for the Google android initiative I have no doubts LG will have best phones and keep their updates coming.
Few things that are immediate .. Vibration. Strong and you'll have less missed calls. Touch .. Less touch delay means easier typing.

I switched from Galaxy S4. I like this LG G3 so much more. 1 is design. I just think the rounded square look of Samsung is boring. 2 is display. Don't like unnatural colors of AMOLED. 3 is rarity. Too many Samsungs

Well I came from a 4yr stint with my original Galaxy S (I9000) so it is a HUGE improvement lol I was going to upgrade to the S4 but when it came out I hated the design so thought the G2, but I couldn't do without an SD card and removable battery..then thought the S5/M8 but S5 design is **** & boring let's face it and the M8 is just a phone for sheep as everyone and their dog will get it because simply, it looks fantastic (like Beats headphones, but unlike Beats it actually IS real quality lol). Also, when I went into Carphone Warehouse, the advisor there told me the best phone they had was the M8 or alternatively the G3 second. The M8 is robust and solidly built and had never been brought back for repair in that particular shop. He said the G3 was just as good but that most people went on brand name so didn't trust or know what it had to offer; himself included until an LG rep came and showed them. He told me to stay away from all Samsung phones (S5/Note 3) as they are the top returns for repair with such things as the battery expanding so it doesn't fit anymore.
Yes I miss the opportunities for custom ROMs but I'm sure this will happen soon as it does with every phone - is there actually any phone that cannot absolutely be hacked in some way at some stage? The other thing is that Samsung officially stopped supporting the I9000 2yrs after they released it so I think ICS was the last official ROM and to get GB you had to install custom. Tbh I remember reading and hearing from people that LG pretty much do the same thing but thesedays that doesn't matter to me as I would never stay stuck on stock if there are custom ROMs available, and I'm positive that most phones will have active development communities for years past their sell by date.
I am extremely happy with my G3 and not sure if I would go back to Samsung again in the future when there are so many worthy and equal/superior contenders out now.
Thanks for all the replies! I'm going to wait a bit and see if any new phones are released, this IS that time of year, isn't it?.. I don't know how much longer I can put up with my Epic 4g Ive been using the last 2 weeks, since I *lost* my Note2.. :crying:
Come from note 3 and I want to say that lg g3 is a great phone however I'm on 10 H EUR version 32GB 3gb ram and when i try to make a video on high resolution the screen freezes and get An error, I'm not rooted or anything else now I'm looking to see what note 4 will look like if it get my expectations i will sale this becouse of lack of developing
Btw i tried make few photos and phone frezed and restarted and got a botloop had to reset to factory settings so I'm not so satisfied about the product yea the screen is great but when you come from a phone that can do anything with it I mean i like flash stuff custom roms and so on to pretty much standard is a down to me as for battery life if you read email and stay a bit on Facebook and so on you will get a full day but if you pay on it or your a hard user you will need battery replacement so my advice wait for the competitions to come out
I came from... Well loads of different devices like the note 2, mi3, nexus 4,5 and htc butterfly s. Half have locked bootloaders and the other don't. The ones that did the software wasn't lagging up the phone so not much issues. But on the note 2 nexus 4 and 5 being able to mod the system and flash stuff without worrying to much of bricking the phone is a plus. Where as you can't do the same on the G3 at the moment. My G3 is just lagging compared to my other two SD800 phones for some reason :S
I came from a Galaxy S3 and I doubt I will ever go back to Samsung. Too many hardware issues. Everyone I know with Samsung phones are always complaining about the usb ports (which I had issues with too) I have an old LG GT540 from 6 years ago and that thing still kicks around.

Came from S3 to G3. I played with my buddys S5 and was very disappointed in the size to screen ratio. On top of that, the whole knox thing, so i am happy that i dont have a samsung phone anymore.
