I was checking updates from aptoide and there was play store. I updated play store and now its completely different. It is difficult to use the store and i want the previous version of the store back. How do I get that?
(I will put screenshots when i get back home from work.)

Just download it from the Play store and activate it Free. Today only 6/6/2013:highfive:

Note: DL straight from Playstore so any update will come from the play store also
The screen is stuck on a white loading screen, Google play services still work and if you install an older playstore it automatically gets updated in the background to the later version , so unless the next play store update fixes this issue or a workaround is found its back to sideloading apps , which I don't mind as long as Google services still work for youtube app and maps and other google apps, also if you use Google plus it works fine but notifications won't load from g+ which I'm guessing is related to Google play services as older versions of the app have the same problem , also if I uninstall the latest playstore apk and then reinstall it it works initially and then goes back to being stuck on the white loading screen , just a few observations
Its not related to 4.6.1. Guys with older versions have the same problem. Google forced services update and thats it.
Play Store version 4.6.17 seems to work with the new version of Play services.

I am having same behavior. I just deinstall PlayStore and reinstall...then it works fine one time. Once you close and reopen it goes to white screen.

Uninstall both play store and services.
install com.google.android.gms (Play services 7.0.99) and 4.6.17 of Play store
Open Play store.
Neither updates on my phone and neither update after a reboot.
Hopefully it will work for you as well.

So after doing that, I can open the app store and see my apps.. But they seem to stick on "Downloading" (updates).

Woohoo, play store downloading updates as we speak!
I'm running:
Google Account Manager 4.0.3-239410
Play Services 3.1.59 (736673-34)
Play Store 4.1.10
We'll see if it auto updates and borks itself again.

So Play Services forced an update to 7.3.29 (1866531-036) (no google apps would work). I did that, and now Google Apps seem to work fine AND I can still use the (old) Play Store to download.
Play Store auto updated to 5.4.12 and back to white screen. I can uninstall the Play Store, then reinstall Play Store 4.1.10 (just keep the .apk on the file system), and it works until the next auto-update.
Good to know there's a relatively simple way to get back into the market for any new installations/updates as needed.
Cant seem to download from google app store today..
Was going to use Aptoide or something like that instead the Google play stuff for my Android apps
Will that work ok or will it have problems also ?
Thanks
You could use any store in theory, but some apps need the Google Play services, otherwise they won't start / work properly.
The Playstation app for example. I didn't want to install a whole GAPPS package, so I installed only the Play services.
In that case it worked, but I can't promise it will work for every app.
No,
I guess you could always switch to a windows phone if you don't need any apps ;o)
The only use I have found for gapps is downloads from play store, and even those apps can be sideloaded without the need for gapps. Otherwise, in my opinion, gapps framework is a constant drag on fire-phone. They use up resources in the background.
I have about 7 androd devices and have disabled Google Apps on almost all of them, and life is good.
Same here, using F-Droid and a 2nd repo I made for myself. I'd rather buy (or donate for) apps directly, e.g. here on XDA instead of using the Play Store.
Novice users tend to prefer Google Play Store & services, because it's comfortable and (usually ^^) hassle free, I suppose.
I have apps I've paid for on google play store and there are other apps there that are not on amazon's app store so yeah you really do.
I'm still running 4.6.1, so no Google Play Store or Services for me. I get all my apps from Aptoide and most of them work fine. So you don't really need to use Google stuff but as mentioned some apps won't work...
Any app store will work... the only advantage about using google play store and google services is that you need google play services to get most google apps working such as maps, hangouts, etc. Also, any games that work with the Play store scoring system will require google play. Other than that, most 3rd party apps will work fine if they don't integrate with google play.

Hi. I've installed Google apps and play store on my rooted AFTV2 by following the Aftvnews guide here:
http://www.aftvnews.com/how-to-install-the-google-play-store-on-the-fire-tv-2-running-fire-os-5/
So far so good... I've signed in with my play store login, and can download and run free apps.
But I can't get paid apps to install or in app purchases to work.
e.g. in sky force anniversary if i try the IAP to get the whole game, the google play payment box pops up, it has my correct play store credit balance but every time I try I get a “purchase failed!“ error. Similar happens when trying to download paid apps directly from play store.
I had some success with newer Google play services and play store - I was able to sign in to Google play games but the play store crashes when I open it (I have hd xposed) so still not able to buy apps...
Has anyone managed to buy Google play apps by using different Google app versions e.g. play store, play services, play games? I only want the leanback versions as sky force anniversary is a Google TV app.
PS I don't want to pirate any apps, since I have the money to buy them!
Thanks!
If I install google services for google applications like gmail, maps, play store
would I get application update notifications from play store?
will play store itself update automatically?
will I need to continuously monitor play store for updates and then update it manually?
are there any limitations or drawbacks or anything I need to know?
thanks
