Wanted to upgrade my good ol' desire 820 to android 5 but I didn't have any idea what was TWPR, only knew CFW back then. You should remember that you can OTA update because it opens TWRP. You need to find recovery rom and use TWRP to upgrade your android.

Hi guys,
I am a new owner of HTC One (M8) and I wish to root my device. I bought it for a week already and have just updated it to the latest Lollipop (Android 5.0.1) with Sense 6.0. It is an international GSM model.
Does anyone know whether my version of One M8 can be rooted and how?
Thanks.

1. Unlock your bootloader via htcdev.com (It's been nearly a year since I did this... I *think* it will factory-reset your phone, so make sure you've backed everything up first.)
2. Download the SuperSU update zip and stick it someone on your phone (internal storage or SD card) http://download.chainfire.eu/695/SuperSU/
3. Flash a custom recovery like TWRP, PhilzTouch, or ClockworkMod Recovery (search around the forums for these)
4. Boot into recovery, and install the SuperSu zip that you downloaded.
That should be it! I know these aren't very detailed instructions, but you can find details all over the forums. Of course, if you have any questions about the steps, just ask. I can confirm this worked on my Rogers HTC One M8, ROM version 4.20.631.2
as title.

Download the MM TWRP backup and restore it using twrp on your phone and factory reset. I hope that will bring you to MM version.
