[Q] Firmware upgrade encountered an issue.Select recovery mode in Kies & try againn
Hey guys i just got my Galaxy s 3 tonight and I came home and tried to root it.I was in Odin. I selected PDA, selected the tar file and tried to root. It started then said "fail." I tried to restart but I'm stuck at a screen saying "firmware upgrade encountered an issue. please select recovery mode in kies and try again." I am using a Rogers Galaxy S3 in Canada. All I'm seeing on my screen is "firmware upgrade encountered an issue. please select recovery mode in kies and try again." At the top left it says:
ODIN MODE
PRODUCT NAME: SGH-I747M
CUSTOM BINARY DOWNLOAD: Yes (1 counts)
SYSTEM STATUS: Official
QUALCUM SECUREBOOT: ENABLE
Just for giggles, plug your phone into Odin on that screen. If it recognizes it (blue com box lights up), use that screen as download mode. But, i would download your file again, making sure to get the one for the I747M.
Really?

If you can get your device back into download mode, you could relay the stock firmware from www.stockbroker.net. Select the file you downloaded under pda in Odin and flash it. Hope this helps. You can try to root again from there.

Upgraded to 4.1.1 even after soft-brick !
Soft-brick aka " firmware upgrade encountered an issue " - screen in galaxy s3 sgh-i747 is a warning bell that somehow device might get interrupted while updating firmware , now i tried twice with old odin , and twice with new odin , what you got to do is just keep on trying and make sure that your galaxy s3 SGH-i747 drives are installed then after restart your pc , tried kies already , just waste of times , wasted 2 hours yet that official software didnt help me to upgrade or recover my device !
Finally i executed Odin 3.7 ( run as admin ) then --> ticked box : auto reboot , F. reset time ! upload that Firmware upgrade of Jelly bean in PDA section and wait till it gets loaded then press start ! ( i had to do this 3 times n then it worked , so dont lose the hope , keep trying over and over again ) and it will take 6~7 minutes as new OS is big around 1 GB ! so dont unplug device and ur done , then after completion , cellphone will restart with new settings and new OS !

This is for the S3, flashing it's firmware on the Note 2 won't work. I highly suggest you go on the Note 2 section.
I found a fix for this problem

Download cwm-touch-i717-120414.tar.md5
Connect to Odin.
Once Odin Recognizes/connects to your phone.
Download Clockwork: (Download cwm-touch-i717-120414.tar.md5)
Choose PDA and browse to the file and click Start on Odin.
Your Phone should now Reboot correctly.
Make sure you download the correct "new MOD" for your phone.

Sir i have ainol novo 8 discover it has a problem that when i install firmware files on my discover with firmware tool there have a problem is data.img file cant install on my tblet software shows WRITE DATA PARTITION FAILED..and u can see screen shot also plzzzz help me what i do.plzz thanks in advance.
I tried to update my Samsung Galaxy Note II to 4.1.2 but I encountered an error on odin and now its stuck with the a message of " Firmware upgrade encountered an issue. Please select recovery mode in Kies & try again."
However Kies is not recognizing the phone when i plug it to the usb cable. but when i try odin it says its added. I cant get it to download mode.:crying:
How do I get this fixed?
I need your help badly...
what exactly you getting while rebooting to download mode?
If you getting msg to use recovery mode while rebooting to download mode, then this is also download mode, flash using odin
The same thing happened for me. It won't update no matter what you do. I tried reinstall kies and drivers but no luck.
And the strange part is if you like I did wait a couple of days the update won't be available anymore. It will start saying that you already have the latest firmware. I read somewhere that it was maybe caused because samsung found a bug in the firmware and then they quickly rool it back

Any help on the above post would be greatly appreciated.
I believe my issue is that I tried rooting it but had the "new" firmware on the device so the root process didn't work. Now, from what I can tell, the boot.img is fubar'd.
I can't charge the phone when it's off. Goes straight to the firmware upgrade failed screen. I try to ODIN factory image and it fails on write of boot.img.
Had the device a whole 2 hrs before it became a paper weight.:crying:
Can you go into download mode?

Happened to me once as well,i accidently lost the USB connection from the PC and all i did was go into the KIES thing and then click on emergency firmware recovery. It worked well for me but in your case you might consider going into download mode(vol down + home + power button) and then flashing a new stock firmware from samfirmware via ODIN
Dear XDA
I am facing a very serious problem with my Note 2 (Samsung) since noon today . Literary, I tried to reinstall (Jellybean 4.1.2) Firmware and unfortunately, during the process I had my PC off, which resulted in the following message;
"Firmware encountered an upgrade issue. Please Select Recovery mode in Kies and try again."
I tried Kies later, but It was not connecting , then reading few help blogs, I tried to install in mobile (cwm6-root-note2- with recovery zip inside) with the help of Odin, which has stopped the Firmware encountered message and replaced it with "Samsung Note II" logo and further its says updating package and restarts continually.
I also tried to install again official 4.1.2 Firmware through Odin after (Vol Down+Centre+Power - and Up) but Failed.
I dont know what to do , please help me out from this issue . it is killing me.
Thank you

No No and Honestly I didnt try that ... I just wanted to freshen my mobile by reinstalling official Firmware 4.1.2 .... oh anyways good news is that I recovered my mobile by following the bellow steps ..
1. Downloaded Official Firmware "N7100XXDMB5_N7100OJVDMB1_N7100XXDLK7_HOME.tar"
2. Opened Odin
3. and upload the "N7100XXDMB5_N7100OJVDMB1_N7100XXDLK7_HOME.tar" in PHONE section under PDA (Not PDA) & pressed Start
4. The installation went well but with problems in upgrading applications and continual restarting.
5. again opened Odin and this time I uploaded the official Firmware in PDA and installation went well
6. Booting and registeration also went well.
7. Mobile is back on life
But But
Now my colleague has messed with Note 3 and it also gives the same msg as i had in the beginning "firmware upgrade encountered an issue".
Thank you max621 for your kind help, I will try those for Note3 instead.
Thanks for reading.

next time you want refresh your phone , just do simple factory reset!
Glad to hear that u recovrr ur phone.. but for note3 u must install kies3 first....
hello friends!!
I tried to root my phone / tablet galaxy tab 3
and he ended up getting caught in bootloop "GALAXY TAB 3" screen and resets so forth.
aperelho model is SM-T211
GSM model
thanks to anyone who can help me
sorry for the english I'm from Brazil
To restore the firmware on your device & Unbrick
Make sure that whatever you do, you are doing it at your own responsibility. :crying:
Your phone’s battery must be charged at least over 60%
Download the firmware of your country (Google it)
Download Odin (Google it)
Download Samsung drivers (Google it)
Extract Odin 3.07 program to desktop
Extract firmware to desktop
Press and hold power, home, and volume down. you will see a warning screen then press volume up to enter Odin mode on the tablet
Now the device is in download mode. Plug in usb cable to computer and device
Run odin 3.07 and wait to see the com port connect.
Click on pda button in odin and find the firmware file you extracted to your desktop and select it
Hit start now and sit back, it will take a few seconds to flash the recovery and your device will reboot.

above link for firmwares from official site
brazil has quite a lot of firmware so u choose which 1 u want
the odin tutorial has already been posted just follow the steps
DONT MAKE ANY CHANGES IN ODIN SETTINGS
just select on pda choose file and start after connecting ur tab
u may need drivers for ur device
Post questions in q and ans section from next time
thank you friends!
but now screwed
when I was putting the new firmware
my computer rebooted
in download mode
now not even that works ..
I'm currently stuck at CWM and cannot get out, I flashed rockettab 3.1 to try and move out of the recovery loop but after I flash it I get device memory is full, I've found a few links on the forums for the stock download but the host sites are absolute crap and take 5 hours to download a file less then 1gig.. If anyone has a drop box link that they could give me for the Tab 3 7.0 t110 I'd appreciate that.
I Unbricked my tablet using kies3. The original kies kept crashing during boot for me, but if you have this same issue simply click Tools at the top of the kies program, then click FirmWare Upgrade and Initialization, in the new window for model name, in my case, it is SM-T110 I think it has to be capitilized, would cause kies to hang if it was lowercase for me. Then enter your Serial number and follow the steps.
Go to this site, type in SM-T110 and download the proper firmware for your country.
