So I've been swappin' sims for a few months now. Pretty annoying if you ask me. I've had me Gio less than a week and the battery cover is all buggered.
Has anyone tried these on our beloved mobile? They can be found on ebay. I hear 3G doesn't always work. Oh, and it needs to be compatible with Tele2 SE, T-Mobile UK and T-Mobile HU. Although I rarely use the last sim. Few times a year, tops.
Experiences?

I got a dual sim adapter for my sg2 which is brilliant and works with 3G too from www.magic-sim.com might be worth checking compatibility for the Gio there?
Sounds interesting, but I don't need it.

That adapter should work great.

I would wait for someone who actually tried an adapter for the gio. I remember a post in another forum where someone told that this adapters are naturally a little bit thicker than normal simcards. in the gio its a problem because the slot is really small. someone had problems to take the adapter out...

Out wont be a problem, its the putting it in that might prove to be difficult. Once its there, I honestly don't care. I wont be pulling the cards out anyway.
I think I'll wait until i get a definite confirmation. I've done a lot of "it should work", and more often than not, I didn't exactly pan out the way I planned. I need to use me t-mobile card for a while now anyway, since most people i talk to nowadays only know me british number.
It sounds so nice
Hello,
So I gave Softbank a chance to bring a good international handset but they are just too involved with Apple they dont have much interest in Android. 2012 summer line up is a joke.
So I decided to buy an unlocked HTC One X. Unfortuntely I need to be in Softbank because all my family is in Softbank. Also I'm a little chicken when it comes to changing APNs and all that unofficially and running the risk of paying a lot of money for data.
So I called Softbank and asked them about getting their SIM for my own handset. The rep was constantly saying that they dont recommend it and I should first bring my handset to them to check. I know they will not pass HOX because its micro sim. Softbank does not support micro sim on this service.
And now I'm stuck with two options:
1) Use my existing silver SIM contract (not pre-paid)
2) MNP to BMobile
I want to ask you guys if any of you have just plugged your SIM (after cutting it) to HOX and it worked? I know 3G data will not work but voice and SMS?
Also, if I do not put a APN and just disable 3G data, would the phone work as normal? I do not want 3G as I'm mostly in a wifi area and I carry a WiMax when I go out.
I would appreacite any information on HOX on Softbank.
Thank you.
I gave my sim card the chop-chop and It's working fine inside the HOX. Go for it man, no problems at all as long as you know where to cut.

I just got my one x today. It's the international unlocked version. I just cut my sim card and put it in and it works perfectly. Don't worry just cut your sim and if you don't need wifi then disable mobile network, it will save you some battery as well.
Thanks Asavva.
If you dont mind can you give me some more details? As where you bought the phone (i'm going to buy from Expansys), and if you changed the APN settings etc.?
Also did you insert a black iphone sim or a normal silver sim?
Appreciate the information
Thank you Barondebxi.
Have you been having any issues with the phone? Wifi, screen?

No problem man. I've had the phone for 5 hours now ( it came from FedEx this afternoon here in the US), no issues at all. It's a very good looking phone. Wifi works very well, screen is AMAZING! I've already installed 2 updates. My phone was on 1.26, then I installed 1.28 and now 1.29.
Thank you.
I'm evry worried after reading all the issues HOX is said to have: wifi, screen flickering, battery heating, scratches on the screen, etc.
But I just cant make up my mind to go for GS3.. this phone is just too gorgeous..

Well it's funny cause for me, I had the galaxy s 3 preordered since yesterday morning. But they have delays because the supply is short so I bought the one x and got it delivered in 1 day. BUT personally I'm still going to buy the Galaxy S3, itt will be my main phone and this one will be my back up phone. Not to say it isn't as good but I'm more of a Samsung guy I guess. Nevertheless, this HTC one x is a beast! It's reallly the best thing HTC as ever released without a doubt.
Thank you Barondebxi.
I dont have a preference to either, its just that HOX looks better and I like the build than the GS3 plastic frame.
But I'm gonna give it a couple of weeks and see. Its very important that wifi works. Else I have no use from the phone. If the issues seems to persist I might as well go with a GS3.

Either phone you choose you will be happy. But if you're afraid of running into some issues, I think the S3 is a better choice right now. But both are epic phones. Ok I'm going to bed. Take care!
I completely agree, SoftBank's Summer 2012 line-up was not worth waiting for. As of now, I live in Japan, but don't have a Japanese phone and was planning on going with a Galaxy S3 whenever docomo wants to release it... however, I do believe I would like the One X more. Are you certain that if I bought the international version, that it would not work with SoftBank's 3G?
Yes. Softbanks 2012 line up was crap. Just some Sharp phones.
I was originally planning on MNP'ing to Docomo and get a GS3. With the MNP discount it'd been a good deal.
But since my family are on Softbank it'd be cheaper for me to be in SB. Also I'm liking HOX more than GS3. It's one sexy phone. GS3 is more like a slightly modified GN and I'm hating "prebble blue".. what were they thinking!? And I'm not a white phone person.
I\m pretty certain that international unlocked HOX will work on SB, but you will need to have a SIM. SB will not provide you with a SIM for HOX, unless you buy a pre-paid version and use that SIM. I have seen on web that HOX works with SB network, but for 3G data you wil need to find the APN details. The one on the web are for iphone (black sim). I think the APNs are different for silver SIM. I also asked from Expansys and they said HOX works on Softbank, but I cannot guarantee whether they actually know it for a fact. But there is no reason it would not as it supports WCDMA (this will not work on AU though). Let me know if you go for it.

Your first paragraph consists of my exact thoughts and plans, although I have no family here, it seems like my co-workers use either docomo or SoftBank. The only way I'd go with SoftBank however is if 3G on the One X works with their network.
I'm hoping one of my friends still has his SoftBank iPhone microSIM card. If he does, I'm going to ask him to mail it to me, then buy the One X from Amazon and see if it works. According to Wikipedia, SoftBank runs on 1500/2100... the 1500 band that the One X doesn't seem to support. What are your thoughts on that?
Have a look at these links Habbit.
http://www.maru-kajiri.com/2012/04/htc-one-x-softbanksim.html
http://www.maru-kajiri.com/2012/04/htc-one-x.html
I highly doubt HOX will not work on SB network. I use a Desire from SB now and the radio is the same as HOX. I doubt SB changed the baseband of HTC phones. And if the SB iPhone SIM works on HOX, there is no reason for it not to work on HOX. I doubt the frequencies are different for iPhone (black SIM) and other (real smartphones (silver SIM).
BTW, why would you buy from Amazon (Amazon Japan I suppose)? They are little expensive than Expansys and also Expansys offers extended warranty. I'm not sure the warranty of when you buy from Amazon (because I dont think its directly sold from Amazon Japan). I thought if I buy from Exapansys it'll be easier to deal with warranty and other issues (basically because my Japanese is not good).
Also, as difficult as it is, I;m going to hold off buying HOX for couple of weeks, because of the Wifi issues its been having. I'm gonna wait till Expansys get new stocks and also see how these issues turn up in next few weeks.
Actually I was going to get it from Amazon US (even cheaper than Expansys) and either have my mom ship it to me, or have my co-worker bring it back when he takes a business trip to Colorado. Haha
Are the WiFi issues that widespread?
Yes it is. Particularly with earlier models. Worst, it could be well be a hardware issue.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1688538&page=2
Interesting... I would really rather have the One X over the Galaxy S3, but that issue could be pretty annoying. How do you discover when Expansys receives new shipments of One X's?
I cut my Softbank silver SIM into Micro.
Enter open.softbank.ne.jp setting in APN.
Get 3G/H, SMS (both sending/receiving), Voice all great.
But I used WiFi most of the time cuz I dont wanna get a huge Data bill from Softbank. Heard so many stories about rumors on the forum.
Still working on MMS setting.

Thank you very much BrianInfo.
Could you please give me some more info regarding the phone.
1) I'm also very worried about getting a huge bill and I want 3G data disabled. So what if I dont put the APN address and leave it blank? Will voice/SMS still work?
2) Can you also share how you bought the phone? and also its HW version number. I'm planning on buying through Expansys but seem there service is not that good.
3) Do you have any wifi issues with the phone?
THank you very much.
How would I go about getting the SoftBank Unlimited Data (Flat-Rate?) plan if I have neither SoftBank service nor a microSIM? Should I have one of my co-workers say they broke their microSIM card or something and ask SoftBank for a replacement for me to use, or should I sign up for a cheap phone and then change my plan after I sign my contract?
Hi Crew,
Well its time to say good bye to the trusty EVO as a daily driver.. so much I love about this phone..
Anyways.. on to the G.S3 team now..
The question is.. I have had this registered to a 4g CDMA account here in China - China Telecom.. so I have the number and the simcard..
and I know a few years ago when i got the phone I had to pay someone to set it the the network for me.. now I want to pop the same number simcard into the S3 and get it going..
My first thought was.. turn off the EVO.. so its not on the network.. pop the Simcard (which was never used due to the EVO not using simcards)
in to the S3 and it should just pick up where the EVO left off.. Humm.. not the case... its not letting me register the S3 phone in to the network..
So I am wondering what do I have to do to get this working?
of course the simple answer is to just kill the number and get a new one.. but not so simple here.. as i want to keep the number.. (also the company pays the bills on it.. so I dont want to disrupt that in the accounting department.. ..)
As a thought.. If I just get the China telecom to register a new simcard with the same number.. would that work?
Anyone with knowledge on this type of thing can chime in before I go and bang my head on the China telecom counter as for sure they are going to look at me like I am stupid..

You should be able to get a new simcard with the same #, I had to do it twice on ATT. What network is your sgs3 branded to? Is it unlocked? Same questions for the EVO.
Why did you have a sim card in the EVO if it wasn't doing anything. I have unlocked plenty if gsm phones on networks in America but haven't done it on cdma networks.

BG.
Thanks for the confirmation.. I was thinking that this was the case..
Actually to answer your questions..
I never used the simcard in this evo. When I got the number they gave it to me..as I think if I remember correctly there are codes attached to it that have to be hard programmed into the evo..
I know this as I picked one up off a friend here..it was modded to accept a simcard..I took it to Philippines to give to a sweet young lady..unfortunately it was also not just a matter of slipping in the simcard and away you went..
Anyway as to my little drama..I will be into China telecom in the next few days to get a new Sim...
As to the sgs3..yes its a unlocked international version..brought in the Philippines..I have it working on a standard GSM sim at moment..
As we know..internet speeds are somewhat different between 3g and GSM networks..
I have used the 3g on the evo all over china the last few years..its been great for road trips to tether..
As its been fast enough to stream radio, music from my home NAS and even movies..data plans are inexpensive so I have a sizable amount of gigs to play with each month..
I was just back in my home country of Australia and I feel for them..telecoms there are ripping the public off with the rates they impose.. no wonder they don't stand a chance to be competitive in development compared to Asian countries.. i.e.. Korea, China.. as if you lower the entry barrier for users they will use and people will develop..but I am going off topic somewhat here..
Once again..thanks for the input.

Has anyone used the SGH-I257M on US AT&T?
As I understand, it has the bands for multiple networks. The reason for asking is AT&T is dragging their feet.
Info I got from AT&T was that it has enough roll outs for Christmas and are not going to bring out the S4 Mini until January. My contract is up, S3 & S4 are too big for a pocket, I ditched my S3, I'm using an S2 clocked at 1.7 and gutted, nice phone, but time for a new toy to play with. I'm tired of waiting on the 'Mini', but flashable US Basebands will be unavailable for some time so I'm hoping someone has done this. More specifically meaning the 'non branded' SGH i257M and a functional LTE band 17. TIA

If you get an unlocked SGH-I257M from Canada it will work for AT&T with LTE. I got one as an early Christmas gift for my girlfriend and it works no problem. I just put her 4G microSIM from her old phone (Pantech Burst) and set it up. The only thing I had to do was add the APN for AT&T 4G. Also, I believe it was the ChatON app that would not work in the US but it wasn't important.
EDIT: Also, a question I was thinking of as well is, if when the AT&T version comes out (or the firmware at least) could the AT&T I257 firmware be flashed on an I257M? That would minimize any issues from the phone's software..

I appreciate the reply. That is good to know. Yeah, ChatON is of no interest. As for flashing, There are multiple reports that the 9195 ROM flashes OK on the M's, 9195 also adds the FM radio that is not given functionality in the M's but restored with the 9195 OS so I would assume the AT&T version should be no problem provided AT&T isn't pulling another non standard hardware version as they have in the past with some phones. (FCC filings don't indicate that) AT&T seems to have developed a phobia in recent years about their phones being retrofitted with new OS's. Also likely they are waiting for 4.3 or a Knox implementation in the deluded belief that it is secure. Thanks again for the heads up on function, looks like the price from Canada isn't too bad right now.

Hi. Thank you for sharing this. I actually just bought a Canadian i257M as well and now I'm waiting for it to get shipped to me. Question; do the samsung media apps work while in the US? For example, media hub, video hub and music hub? I ask because i used to own a GS4 from att and I purchased a lot of media on those apps and would like to continue using them if possible on the GS4 mini if possible.
Much appreciated!

You may have some disappointment, Samsung has switched to 'Samsung Hub' on the new phones, replacing the older Media hubs and interoperability suffers a lot. T-Mobile offers a Media Hub for their new phones, AT&T may as well since the Sammy app's leave so much behind. It's going to be a wait and see I suspect. With luck AT&T will have Media Hub apps instead of the newer Samsung replacements and all you will have to do is wait. It seems quite a few people have money tied up in the old system and that may keep it alive.
But other than that, all you need to get on line is write your carrier APN. The phone is turn-key as it is. I just got an 'M' and after gutting the OS, dropping in an APN and editing the Build Prop a little (not needed) it works great on US AT&T.
There are more and more of the i257M's turning up recently in the States and hopefully someone will be able to clarify the Media Hub issue more for you better than this.
Where are you guys getting unlocked 257Ms? I can't find anything on ebay and the internet suggests canadagsm may not be reputable.
Hi...wondering if you can help given you are on AT&T 4G LTE. My i257M arrived today from canadagsm and it appears rooted. Surprise, but maybe good. BTW...canadagsm handled this order ok, not great and not responsive, but they did deliver. Anyway so far so good, but I am also on AT&T 4G LTE and wondering how to edit the APN? Why? Right now I am only getting H+ connectivity. So wondering if there is a way to do this voa the hardware or only via software? Also, can you post the Build Prop? Lastly, due to rooted phones being disallowed on my company network I can only use a stock ROM.
Lastly, as I write this I ended up going into the boot ROM and which is not CWM and for the last 30 minutes and selecting install the volume up, the screen shows DOWNLOADING, DO NOT TURN OFF TARGET!! However, I am not aware I am downloading anything and seeing this screen is a bit scary. I may mess with this a little more by the time anyone gets a chance to respond, so we will see.
Thanks in advance, malloy0

I just made a thread abouu this. Just picked up a i257m and on every kind of combination of rom I'm stuck at only h+. I spent a few hours on the phone with cs to figure out why after googling a few other cases similar to ours. Turns out att doesn't support unlocked phones so the account isn't setup to push lte. What others have done, and what I'm going to try to do tomorrow is pop the sim into an att phone thss can do LTE and set it up and switch back and it should follow.
Att were assholes and wouldn't setup a device on my sim temporarily to prove to me LTE worked on my account. We popped my dim into a display g2 that was getting LTE, and got only h+. So I told him to pop the display sim in mine to see if I can get LTE, it only triggered the LTE option in the settings but never popped up saying it was getting any.. Hmm
Edit: got lte working with a new sim! All works perfect on att!

Where are you guys getting unlocked 257Ms? I can't find anything on ebay and the internet suggests canadagsm may not be reputable.

Just wanted to throw in an update, I took the risk and ordered a 257M from CanadaGSM. Minor hiccup with the webpage didn't forward my address to their credit card processor, but they sent me an e-mail and a paypal invoice, and shipped out the phone the same day I paid. Quick customer service response time via e-mail, too (as in within a few minutes). It works great on Straight Talk, but I don't live in an LTE area so I can't test that till this weekend.
It rooted easily, and now it's running PAC.
Edited to add some information.

Good news for CanadaGSM...I too was leery, but after a few emails and phone calls they stepped it up big time. For now I have retired the S5 mini in favor of a Nokia Lumia 520 for $65!! Woo-eeee!! It's a super smooth phone. Apps are a little limited, but still have found everything I need except "stay awake" with charging. as for the S4 mini on LTE? No luck at all and expect one of two things...1) it's a locked Rogers phone and I am on AT&T, thus they will not allow LTE or the phone is not truly LTE capable.

Can you post some detail about the rooting procedure that you used? I have not yet seen a complete procedure for the SGH-I257M.

Use the 9195 root method and 9195 roms, same phone just different lte bands.
What I did was use Odin to flash recovery then flashed the root kit then used the unlock app from the play store to be able to run att. Then I flashed my liquidsmooth and havent looked back!
I used Odin to flash philz touch recovery, then flashed the PAC nightly. Only issues so far are ROM related, like launcher preference and battery drain
Sent from my GT-I9195 using xda app-developers app
Hi, Firstable sorry about my english is not pretty good but i do my best. Well, I have a Sprint Galaxy Note 2, I did the GSM Modification that is in this forum and works for me perfect in Colombia, but I dont like everytime that i install a new rom i have the same problem everytime that i install a new rom i need to put the APN configurations, also install a LK8 that works in Medellin, Colombia (If someone in Medellin, Colombia is trying to do this the LK8 Modem works i spent a lot of time trying to make this works) Also the configurations the signal is a little bit poor, In Colombia there is Operator called Virgin Mobile that is really cheaper and its really good, when i have my iPhone 4 I have signal everywhere, and im studying in a School really far away from the city and with my iPhone 4 I used to be with all circles of signal, also i had a Huawei (I dont remember which one) and Works 3G at my school, but with the GSM modification i had to change my carrier and i dont know if the adapter that i bought isnt i dont know, Good? i Bought it on AliExpress here tell if the product is good or not, But the signal is poor and the plug disconnect everytime i had to put a piece of paper with glue to make pressure to the plug trying to get the product not disconnected, so i talk with guy of my family who works on mobile repairment but i dont have enough time to talk and he said that if bought and put a Middle Cover of the Galaxy Note N7100 i will not having this problem anymore i bouth it yesterday a that will take i dont know 3 weeks to came to my house because is from China, Thats true about buying this can fix my problem? Instead i look for this product i saw in this page some products that are called MotherBoards, I know what is it, but i dont think that there is people selling it, because in Colombia is 90% impossible to get one legaly, so i look for the N7100 but i dont know if i can make that to my phone, there isnt Hardware Differences between those products? I mean differences Between N7100 and SPH-L900? also in my searching i look for the N7105 that is Note 2 LTE, So what do you recommend to me? Buy a N7100 Motherboard or a N7105? or thats is impossible?.
Well i dont have the permission to post any external Link. if you want to see those products that i mentioned in the post let me a Private Message and i will send you the links of page that i Bought, is AliExpress
Thank you very much.
