No images in Inoreader feed - About xda-developers.com

Hi,
Been subscribed to XDA Developers news forever, but recently all images in inoreader are not appearing.
They are returning a forbidden HTTP response code.
I assume that is because the referer is not what you expect, and you are trying to stop people using your hosted images on your CDN
It doesnt really bother me that much, just thought you might like to know
thanks

[IMPORTANT] All XDA Mods, Read - Ad Hijack

I couldn't get a chance to see which ad it was as they are dynamic, but an ad for AVScan hijacked my browsing when on XDA.
To me, this is a big deal and if it happened on my website, I'd be charging after someone - an on a decent website, I would personally be looking for compensation from the advertising provider or the advertising client who hijacked my site.
Sorry for posting here, I want this to be heard and not sure where to post!
I had the same problem. I was browsing XDA like normal yesterday and I got redirected to some page. I wish I saved the URL. Chrome gave me the malicious site warning thankfully.
Thank you for reporting this, Im notifying the proper people.
We're looking into this.
We take this very very seriously. Unfortunately, it's also very very difficult to pinpoint the cause of it. We pretty much only use two or three different ad networks (the largest, by far, of which is AdSense). I've yelled at several people about this, and I'm hoping it's taken care of. If it keeps happening, try to send me a screenshot of the ad that you think is causing the issue (or just PM me the domain it's linking to).
We are extremely sorry for the inconvenience. We do everythign we can to avoid these issues of course!

You might want to pull the username/password out of your post and provide them via Private Message, otherwise everyone on the internet will have access to your FTP site once google crawls this post. Just a suggestion.

yes, he's right, please do that.
Also not everyone here is... nice.
And change your PW, now.
I would give out that info to devs and "well known" helpful members.
Also, be aware that some things here are DLed thousands of times, watch your BW. ;-)

Very cool OP thank you... Looks like the psswrd was changed already. I think you guys scared him.
Lol, yeah you guys did.
This is an awesome contribution OP, thank you.
You really are pretty new here. Definitely do your research. When someone contacts you, check out their post count, look at what types of threads they've created, and the thank meter is always a good indicator
Obviously, some developers will be easily recognizable, and won't necessarily warrant checking up on them; there will definitely be some that are good contributers, but you might not know it without looking into their work.
And some are just not trustworthy.
Like cnz.

DEVELOPERS ONLY- developer weekend conference.

THIS IS FOR DEVELOPERS ONLY. IF YOU DO NOT HAVE ANY SKILLS AT ANDROID DEVELOPMENT, OR ARENT CURRENTLY PLANNING ON OR CURRENTLY MAKING SOMETHING NEW FOR OUR DEVICE DO NOT REPLY. THIS IF FOR DEVELOPERS ORGANIZATION ONLY. IF YOU WANT TO LEARN THE BASICS OF DEVELOPING THOUGH, OR WANT TO SEE IF YOU CAN HELP US, DO NOT POST HERE, ASK ANY DEVELOPER THROUGH PM.
Well, I had to get that out of the way.
Me and Adriel were talking for a while today, and were thinking of having a developer conference for all developers of our device on the weekends. He has a business gotomeeting account we can use to audio chat, and share our computer screens live (and not use actual cameras for privacy reasons). We can have up to 25 people at a time. What we want to do is to get as many developers as we can on so we can talk about all our current projects, ways we tried to get stuff working, and what we want to do going forward. We also want to use it so that people (like myself) who are newer to development can ask the more experienced devs questions to get themselves better, and we can all maybe be on the same skill level eventually, and in general get more stuff for our devices going. Me and adriel are both able to do this on Sunday (me in the afternoon, Adriel TBA), and we wanted to see who else can join us. I want to be able to get this as a monthly thing if possibly on the weekends, and maybe weekly per availability on a smaller scale. Also if we can get it working, I want to find a free version to do the same thing, and allow anyone with development experience to host a group to allow general users to ask questions, and try to learn development themselves. I believe besides just normal test/audio chat being able to see each other's computer screens (hide anything personal first) would allow us to use much easier visual learning, and help the community as a whole. Tell me what you all think.
You can count me in.. I'm pretty new to development though... I'm just starting to get my feet wet... My only dev work (sorta)... Is the porting of the Lewas Rom to my beloved EVO 4G .... But I'm definitely interested in developing for this device (well at least learn something)...

Another original Evo user! awesome! Well instead of using gotomeeting we might just use google+ hangout- much easier, and dont need adriel to be on each time. I suggest taking your username and creating a google account with it for the hangout. for example mine is [email protected]. I will be on all weekend on google+ now.
Count me in!
I may or may not be available but most devs know how to contact me.

Shelnutt2, i was gonna suggest this type of thing. i noticed the current irc room is just noobs and what not who need help fixing/lgnpst'ing their phones. why not make two rooms #lgog-help and a dev room for you guys and testers.
that way, the dev talk isn't washed out with people needing help fixing their phones and dumb questions about eta

We decided to use Google+ instead. Much easier since its browser based, but only ten people. If someone wants to get $3 we can get up to 250 on oovoo.
Also IRC is good, but it doesn't allow us to see the persons screen, so no visual help. I can then see exactly what you click on, and just talk and not worry about talking while working. And if someone's getting help they can just listen to suggestions, and not have to look at a chat screen if they don't have multiple monitors. Also for chat for developers I was thinking of maybe using something besides freenode. Its not very mobile friendly, and I personally don't like it. Gtalk is the best for one on one it seems like, but we something like palringo- download the app on any OS for any smartphone/computer/tablet. Chats as big as we want for free, and it supports pictures and short audio clips. Also private messaging, bots, and such. And you just right click some bodies name to mod, admin, ban, or silence them. And permanent ban is possible. Then we can keep anyone not wanted out, but still let normal users that don't bug the channel float around and watch our chats. If anybody has another alternative to palringo, please tell me. I want us all to be as connected as possibly, and in all formats without it being a hassle. I want us accessible to each other, and even to normal flashaholics through chat, screen cast, and audio. Always accessible in case someone has an issue with a ROM or mod. Makes development easier.

On android, just open a chat, then menu, add friends and you can pick who to invite... Probably something similar on other clients.

I'll edit this as needed; however, I would like to get this seriously off it's feet. These are the following courses that I would be the best to learn for now. And have different developers teaching the course work once a week.
If we start tomorrow, we'll literally start extremely easy; however, it'll get harder. I think it'll be best if dedicated an hour and a half to all lessons (More for more difficult subjects) and developers teaching should have an agenda in mind. Here's a weekly schedule that sounds like it'll be beneficial.
Week 1: Copy & Paste Rom
Folder and File Structure (10 minutes)
Top Level Modifications (20 Minutes)
Updater Script (Commands and Permissions) (20 Minutes)
Implementing Aroma Scripts and Modified Updater Script (40 Minutes)
Week 2: De-compiling and Theming
Week 3: Setting up Linux Development Environment
Week 4: Developing a ROM from Source
Week 5: Developing a Kernel from Source
If you're a developer and want to teach any one of these, please reach out to me.
Some responsibilities for teaching include recording your screen as you present. This is specifically to be able to upload the video to youtube afterwards so that anyone can watch if they miss the session. The only disadvantage for users that watch the video is the inability to ask questions during the tutorial.
I'll also make accommodations for the developer depending on what they need. I'll help find solutions for video capturing software, which shouldn't be difficult.
Hopefully we can get this off the ground so that people are more knowledge about ROM development. Most of these tutorials can already be found online; however, it's always difficult to get started.
Thanks,
Adriel
If anybody wants, I am on right now. I can do the week 1 tutorial for new people, or talk about current projects with other devs.
I am on google+ under evo dev. my gtalk and email to find me is [email protected]. If you cant find me on google+ shoot me an email, and ill send you invite to a hangout. just put your hand over your camera so you can switch it off, then turn on screen cast. You can also use a normal chat if you dont have a headset or built in mic.

what is the point of XDA Android app when you have tapatalk?

can someone please explain the point of installing XDA and XDA premium when I already can access XDA forum using tapatalk?
Seems to me that XDA just wanna some buck?
it's just like asking why superman wears his underwear on the outside.
user preference.
period.
XDA has real expenses like server maintainance,
with 4,000,000 registered users and 30,000+ people online,
they need some financial aid to help them provide you people the service,
XDA never forced you to pay a dime but have given you a tremendous amount of service,
i'd like to see you manage a server with 4,000,000 users and let's see how well you go

that's fine, I understand, I have no issue with XDA asking for donation or anything. But how is this an reason for an independent forum app? There are thousands of forums, many with millions of members and I am a member of many forums. I don't see the logic for me to download independent app for each of these forum if they each had one.

USER-PREFERENCE,
i never use tapatalk,
i use the xda app FYI,
it's XDA's project,
and from my point of view,
i find it pretty useful since i only have XDA as my active forum so why bother getting a 3rd-party app when you can download a version directly from XDA.

it's kinda rude, saying that XDA is doing it for bucks,
since they did this to provide users an independent forum app,
you justified the means without proper knowledge,
And to put it, Tapatalk is a paid app. And XDA offers free as well as premium app. So users who don't have Tapatalk has the option to get the free XDA app, if they have only registered on XDA for browsing the forums. Not many users are members of different forums.
i got both...but to be honest i only use XDA app now as this is the only forum i check. and if by me having the premium version helps support for the maintenance of the site, it is the least i can do for what i have learned from XDA over the last two years and the goodies that i have done to my phone to make it better
The reason? I find 1.50 € for learning english a very, very, fair price (i have both premium apps)

Reread your thread title and OP. Nowhere does it state that it's directed to people who use multiple forums, and you probably would have received different replies completely if you had made that clear. All you did was make the XDA app seem useless, which is wrong, because for people who only use XDA there's no point paying for tapatalk.

Personally, I don't see any difference between the two. They are identical to me, except that Tap can have multiple forums in it, obviously.
But I am having a problem with both and can't use any of the four forum apps I have purchased:
XDA Premium (phone)
XDA HD (tablet)
TapaTalk HD
TapaTalk 2
Don't get me wrong, I am more than happy to support the developers! I'm not bragging, but I have purchased about 300 apps in the last year and most of them worked fine without paying for them. I just wanted to make clear that this is not about complaining because of spending the money. I just sincerely want to be able to use them and I can't use any of the four.
What I mean by that, is that after scouring XDA and Google, I cannot find any help on how to view messages that I have received email notifications for, like when someone responds directly to one of your posts, or even when they post in a thread/forum you are Subscribed to.
I know that I can go into the XDA/TapaTalk (2) apps and go to:
LATEST >> PARTICIPATED
... But that doesn't take me to the posts that I have been notified about, like if I tap the link in the email and it takes me right to the message, ya know?
So I end up tapping the link and trying to view the messages in the browser on my phone, but since XDA does not have a mobile version of their web site, I end up double-tapping it to try to blow it up and then moving it all around the screen, back and forth, to try to read the message.
And of course, posting that way is Hell! It is very difficult to get it to go back up in the message and you can't even see a whole sentence, because it's blown up and the regular display is microscopic!
Does anyonne know how it is done? I love the concept of these apps, but I cannot believe that they would have left that sort of feature out, given that people would constantly be responding to posts they are notified about, right?
So I figure that I must be missing something. But I have looked at these apps for almost a year now (and recently purchased the new TapaTalk 2, hoping it had stuff the original doesn't) and I just can't find how to do this.
Does anyone know how this is done? Please?
Again, going to LATEST >> PARTICIPATED does not list/take me to the messages I am being notified about. The threads are in the list somewhere, I'm sure, but I'm hoping to do it like I do when I tap on the link in an email message. It would be really cool if you tapped on one and it opened Tap right to that specific message that you're being notified about!
I may have missed this answer somewhere in these forums, but I swear, I did scour them as best I could and I just cannot find this specific help! Nor did I find any help from the Tap folks, except how a forum owner could add their forum and a Google search produced the same result.
I apologize for the long message. I just wanted to make sure that I was absolutely clear, so that folks did not just guide me to "LATEST >> PARTICIPATED".
Thanks!!!

Big post.
So basically what you want is when you click on a link on any other app (mail for eg. since its giving you notifications). You need to clear all the defaults you have set around with your browsers. (do it from settings»applications»manage»here).
After that whenever you click on a link, it will show up a popup to chose the app to procede for the link. If the link is from xda use tapatalk (it'll take you to the post right away), if from other site, use your preffered browser. Again do not set anything as default as tapatalk cannot open other sites and you will need to clear the defaults again.
A Hero Can Be Anyone.
Dear Bruce Wayne,
Okay, I did what you said and it did not take me to the exact message. But it did take me to the same page, which makes it just a matter of scrolling down a few swipes up worth to scroll down to the message, which is certainly plenty good enough!
Plus, now I understand why this app's default posts per page is set to 10.
Thanks a bunch for your help, Bruce! I mean that! I can now, finally, use TapaTalk after a year of owning it! And that's because you took a few minutes out of your time to answer my question simply and plainly, without first assuming a certain level of knowledge on my part and I really appreciate that!
And I'm sincerely not trying to patronize you. As I said, I do mean that. It can be very difficult to get help, when so many people see a question as being "stupid" and you can't find anything on the web, ya know?
There was one thing I noticed though in the TapaTalk 2 app, which was that there was no option to "Quote" when responding (I wanted to quote a couple of sentences of you response when I replied).
Is there a trick to making it show that option that you know of?
If there isn't one, how would you know if it's responding to the message you're looking at on the screen?
Sorry to bother you again, Bruce! Last time, I promise!

Duplicate XDA Website(With Possible Malacious Intentions)

There is this website I found that caches and steals the whole XDA website.
It goes by the handler: " forum.freelatestmovies.org "
If you try going to the website directly through the adress above, I wont work and will fail.
HOWEVER if you google search the website name, you can see all of the duplicate threads/pages of the XDA Forums.
Some download links lead to maliciously crafted ones. Lots of images/links are broken or missing, but some do work.

Be very careful with this site and I advise the proper XDA Administration to take care of it.

We were notified about this a few days ago. I have moved to block what I can on the backend, they had about 20 IPs working as a proxy. Usually Google will make quick work of these sites in not too long.
