Looking for two additions to my new G4 - a 64gb microsd card and some decent on-ear/supraaural headphones.
Not sure which microsd to get (sandisk/samsung). It will be used for music, movies, pics, and videos.
Headphones about £50, would like to be comfortable and possibly with an in-line mic and volume control. Maybe the AKG K451?!
Thanks.

I currently have a 1 ear Samsung bluetooth headset, but it is inadequate for anything but phone calls.
I would like a bluetooth headset that is for both ears so that I can listen to music and especially podcasts without having to use the standard headset. I would also expect it to have a built in microphone.
I know the bluetooth in the HTC S620/S621 is not the newest available so I also don't want to aimlessly buy a headset and find out it isn't compatible with my phone.
Any suggestions on what I should buy?
Thank you,
Tim
I use Sony Ericsson HBH-DS970 Bluetooth headset. I love 'em.
I like my Motorola S9. They got good sound and decent base for lil speakers. They never fall out. They have the following buttons; answer/hang up call, volume up and down, track forward/back (hold for fast forward/rewind), and play/pause. When consider sound quality, I like my music loud with a lot of base and why I have a 1000watt system in my car. Sure they are no where near that, but they make a good alternative for when listening to music on my cell. Plus I can walk like 100ft away from my cell before they loose connection. In my old 2 bedroom house I could walk around my whole house and nevr have my cell on me. Another plus, they use the same charger plug as the Dash (Mini-USB).
for BT headphones //// the jabra BT620's are good.
http://www.amazon.com/Jabra-BT620s-100-96200000-02-Bluetooth-Headphone/dp/B000FJ20CM
for a BT headset that has the ability to use 1 or both earbuds. the plantronics voyager 855 stereo bluetooth is a good choice...so you can walk with one or both earbuds in.
http://www.amazon.com/Plantronics-V..._1_3?ie=UTF8&s=wireless&qid=1228156437&sr=1-3
Thanks for the input.
I decided to go with the Motorola S9. Some of the reviews at Amazon did make me hesitate a bit though.
I primarily use my phone for email, web browsing, music, and podcasts more so than talking. And from most of the Amazon reviews, many were not happy with the sound quality of the S9 during phone conversations.
The jabra option didn't seem to fare much better in that regards and was bigger.
On the plantronics 855 option, many stated it was great in sound quality for phone calls but was inferior to the Motorola for music and podcasts.
I didn't really look into the Sony option listed here though due to the price. It was one of the more expensive ones.
So anyways, this is now on my Amazon wish list to make Christmas shopping for my wife easier.
Glad to be of help and as for incall sound quality. I never had a complaint, been on the phone for hours on end with this thing and a lot better then having a cell against my head all the time lol. I hate being on the phone honestly but this headset made it a lot more tolerable. Actually just bought a USB Bluetooth Adapter for my pc to link these to it for music etc at night when people complain about loud music lol. Especially with that joggr volume issue on the Dash lol. Good luck with your Chrismas gift.
All these techs tell me that BT distorts the highs. I am an audiophile.. What should I get for a windows mobile phone?
audiophiles should most likely stay clear of a2dp in all it's forms
^^^ Correct. A2DP is convienient, but if you're looking for sq, this is not what you are looking for. I did it in my dad's truck with my Nokia N75 and his new HU. It doesn't just distort highs, it also removes almost all the lows.
Honestly, IMO, unless you are in a competition, a vehicle shouldn't be about SQ. To get a truly good sound, you will probably end up spending crap tons of money. Car acoustics are fickle as all get out.
What's your price range? I suggest getting an amplifier to drive the speakers as well if SQ is the goal.
EDIT: I didn't realize I hadn't posted here yet. Odd.
Check out the Alpine head units
I know they have usb support and alpine sound quality is awesome, I tried one of the head units can't remember the name but it sounded great. And if you are into sound you will need to get a 4-channel for highs and mids, and either a 2 channel or 1 channel for subs. If you are going all out, you might as well do all that go all out. And the alpine head units have a ton of volume eq presets, not to mention Pioneer does well too.

well, if you really want to go "all out" do external equalizing. And as for good sounding headunits, look at Eclipse. they have some of the better sounding head units on the market. Alpine is good, but I personally don't like them.
Personal preference, but I'll take a comparable Pioneer over an Alpine any day.
Back to the topic thouugh, as long asyou don't drift off into poor name brands (Pyle, Power Acoustik, Dual, Jensen, etc) you will be fine. Try and get some hands on time with a couple models before you buy thoough.
I would get either straight connection (3.5mm / line in) which enables WM to play music
Or get one that accepts SD card. You can store all your music on an SD card an stick it in your car stereo, WM device, computer at home etc. I fit most my music on 8GB card.
agree with BJ, in my experience Pioneer is much better sound (forget the button to light ratio!!).
Hey Guys,..
I just ordered a new headset from sennheiser.
I red somewhere that smartphones and mp3 players might not have enough power to make your headphones sounds nice at higher volume.
I cant seem to find any figures for the note 2 that i can use to do the math, so does any one know what the output is of the note 2?
Or perhaps someone has already tried this?
I bought the sennheiser 449, and was looking to add a FiiO E6 IF needed.
Thanks.
The phone should power the headphones, as it has a Wolfson DAC like some of the older model iPods, and a lot of people in the audiophile community claim the iPods with the Wolfson DAC were the best sounding (a little bit warmer and they give an overall better sound in comparison to the audi chips Apple are using nowadays from Cirrus Logic.
Try the stock player when they arrive and play about with PowerAmp and Jet Audio has loads of extra controls for sound settings etc, adding an extra headphone amp would boost the volume and give you a little more bass but at the cost of adding extra bulk, which sometimes isn't a good thing if your on the go all the time! Also apparently in the future BBE may be porting their SoundMax app from iOS to Android
I have been looking into getting a Note 2 for daily use and music, (trying to find an app that will play apple lossless!) and I also want to try and avoid adding the extra bulk of a headphone amp, the phone is big enough as it is Headphone wise, if your a bass head there is the newly released V-Moda M-100 which have been getting rave reviews, there is also the older V-Moda M80's which as still really good for the money (about the same you paid for your new Sennheisers). I have been looking at the AKG K550's a real nice set of headphones, they certainly look the part, and they are apparently great being powered by a Mobile, they are also closed back, so not much sound leak when your out and about. Hope this helps.
the only thing you should look at when buying new cans is the impedance (measured in ohm). in your case the impedance of the sennheiser 449 lies between 35 & 45 ohm. so, no problem to drive them without a dedicated headphone amp on smartphones and mp3 players respectively. to give you comparison, there are headphones with several hundered ohms of impedance. for these a headphone amp is highly recommended
right thats what i wanted to know because one youtube vid said that you DO need an amp if you are going to use it on your smartphone.
but i will give it a try without.
thanks.
Nope it doesn't require.... I have gaming stereo headset... Big in size, it works well in my nexus s... And must be working in note 2... Note 2 is using newer version of Wolfson chips
Accidentally sent from my Samsung Galaxy Note 2
I guess, you don't really 'need' it, but if you have a portable AMP, it always make your headphones sound better.
hi, I've been going crazy looking for a budget videocamera with an external microphone when I thought about doing it with my smartphone.
what I need is to record singing classes so i'm not looking for a great video quality but i need a great audio.
I read some old thread about phones and external mics but i guess I'm not even close to get what I want. searching in google looks like external mics for smartphone don´t exist.
Does anybody can help me on this?
thanks in advance...
well, looks like I found what I was looking for. the mic is the edutige eim 003 and is easily pluggable on most of the android and ios devices...
this is the link on amazon. you will find as well a couple of reviews on youtube. being from Europe the cheapest price would be 48€ but in us it's worth 28€. enjoy
It's also possible to make an adapter with the semi-standard iPhone compatible 4 pin headphone / mic plug on one end and separate headphone and microphone jacks on the other. I made one with just some resistors, a capacitor, and audio cables that now lets me use dynamic microphones (or even weak line in signals) with my iPhone instead of the usual condenser microphones.
Hello, I am very much kind of headphone lover guy.
Recently, I bought Beyerdynamic DT770 Pro 32Ohm (32Ohm version for portable users).
But the sound is not coming to its best. I plugged the same headphone to iPhone and it's working awesome. iPhone quality is same as it work on macbook and PC.
So, I was worried, is my headphone supportable on my Nexus 5 or I just have to invest in buying mp3 player.
I will provide link, where you all cann see the specifications and tell if that is supported on this device or not, because I am not that much of technical guy.
Headphone Link - http://north-america.beyerdynamic.com/shop/dt-770-pro-32-ohm.html
I have rooted my phone and is currently running on ElementX kernel and Chroma ROM.
Hope you guys can help me.
Thank you.
Is it quality that's bad or volume level? Or a bit of both?
Sent from my Nexus 5 using Tapatalk
More of a volume. The quality is good.
Try this - https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.n5rvb.nexus5realvolumebooster
Also i always use poweramp with the preset set on rock. Always find it the best sounding
Sent from my Nexus 5 using Tapatalk
Install any kernel management app, like kernel adiutor, and in sound menu raise headphone gain.
So I just did what you said. I already have paid version poweramp and installed volume booster, set it to 19 and 95 for headphone and speaker. Set my present to rock, but I was just little curious, are you also facing a little distortion in the sound or just me? Because I think, I can listen the distortion, maybe because these are kind of Audiophile headphones, so they are giving deep detail of every sound.
As far the volume matters, its 2.00AM, so very much silence environment but I can definitely feel the volume is increased.
How much did I set the headphone gain too?
I already installed the volume booster app, should I also gain on this app too?
Try these!!!!!
These are the "loudest" and best in-ear buds you can get!!!! http://amzn.com/B00WI79EK0 They are Zorloo "Z:ero". Forget about booster apps, eq apps, etc... This thing has a inline "DAC" it plugs into the "USB" port and not the 3.5mm jack. Read up on it!!! I have wasted money on many in the ear, over the ear, everything under the sun to get the best sound and these are my latest find. (Thanks to an article about the Nokia 808 and how people are pimping them out). I cant say enough how LOUD!!!!!!!!!! they are.
YOU WONT BE DISAPPOINTED!!!!
I think they are lurking under the radar because its not a "Brand" name like Shure, Whitestone, or any of the "high" end stuff people are used to paying 100's of dollars for. But the technology using "DAC" has been around and if your looking for something to drive your "over the ear" stuff maybe a usb cable micro to mini adapter and then a USB DAC Stick might work for you... I am sure you can also try to "hack" the "Z:ero" by cutting off the "ear buds" and then going to the local "radio shack" and getting a 3.5mm stereo input jack and soldering the four wires to it and you just made yourself a custom low cost "DAC"...
Just a quick review I google...
http://www.soundguys.com/zero-digital-earphones-review-5997/
Try them!!!
Install viper for android. It helps with the sound processing on the N5 immensely.
I was going to say something about the impedance, but my headphones are a higher impedance than that 35ohm, and I'm pleased with the quality and volume. I know you are not looking for just volume, you are looking for volume and quality. Something I found in the past with some of the Android EQ settings (didn't matter which app) some of the settings like bass boost, would actually lower the volume coming to my headset.
A good set of headphones shouldn't have to have any EQ settings changed at all, leaving it on flat should be the best, and for preference, you can always use flat as a reference.
Every headphones is different from others: if you want a boost in volume/quality, you should try an amplifier like FiiO E6 (http://www.amazon.it/FiiO-E6-Amplif...6?ie=UTF8&qid=1439893840&sr=8-6&keywords=fiio )
32 ohm is a bit high for a smartphone, so there is a possibility that Nexus can't handle that well.
I have a pair of 32 ohm dt770 as well as 32ohm mmx300 Beyerdynamic. They both work fine.
They definitely shine with a good headphone amp, but if you're running without one straight to a phone or laptop, definitely get 32 ohm. It's the lowest they make for mobile type uses.
