How to get back from TWRP recovery to original ASUS recovery? - ZenFone 2 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hello,
I installed TWRP on my rooted ZE551ML. Now I can´t restore my phone with the built in restore function in Android (after rebooting in recovery the phone remains in fastboot mode).
I would like to restore my phone completely before backing it up in TWRP as stock ROM (I have the US version of ZE551ML and I can´t find any US Version (only CN and WW)).
Can you please tell me how to get back from TWRP recovery to the stock ASUS recovery?

Download recovery.img here

fastboot flash recovery recovery.img

Thank you so much!

hi, I wanted to know if it was okay to have this process the phone completely stock:
when I have the TWRP
1) through TWRP I do flash fw UL-Z00A-WW-2.20.40.97-user
2) fastboot flash: boot - droidboot - recovery
reboot the system and should have many totally stock rom e recovery?
this process works in your opinion?
thanks!

Depending on what firmware you were on, you can download the recovery, boot and droiboot image files from the pre-rooted rom thread. These are included in the file and can be downloaded separately. Make sure the recovery is the same or higher than the last stock firmware you were on or it might not work or result in bootloop...
Put Zenfone 2 in fastboot mode and use fastboot to flash -
fastboot devices (if you are good to go it will list your serial number)
fastboot flash recovery recovery.img
fastboot flash boot boot.img
fastboot flash fastboot droidboot.img
You will need adb sideload to install the stock rom or you can put the zip file of the stock rom on a fat32 formatted sd card and see if it will upgrade using recovery...

Flashing OTA failed. I need help to restore my phone.

Hi,
My phone is rooted and the DPI was customized. I tried to manually flash the OTA but the installation got stuck so I cannot boot into Android anymore. I tried those restore tutorials but when I try to flash using fastboot I get a "FAILED (remote: Permission denied). I tried to clear the cache in the recovery and then it got also stuck and now I can't access recovery.
This is what I can read in the bootloader
---------------------------
FASTBOOT MODE
PRODUCT_NAME - Z00A
VARIANT - ASUS_Z00A
HW_VERSION -
BOOTLOADER VERSION - unknown
IFWI - 0094.0177
SERIAL NUMBER - Xxxxx....
SIGNING - ?
SECURE_BOOT - ?
continue fastboot process

I just been successful in installing TWRP recovery using the toolkit.
Edit: I installed the latest CM 13 build and it can't boot to Android. It goes straight to TWRP recovery no matter how I turn on the phone. My bootloader still looks the same.
Edit: I tried flashing a prerooted .img and stock recovery and I can go back to recovery but I still can't boot into Android or factory reset or nothing.... I'm desperate!

You may need to flash boot.img and droidboot.img for the same version of rom you flashed, ie. if you flashed 139 then you must flash the recovery, boot and droidboot images for 139...
As you found the pre-root rom files, download the whole file and flash these image files too making sure you use the right commands or you will brick your phone...
fastboot flash recovery recovery.img
fastboot flash boot boot.img
fastboot flash fastboot droidboot.img
fastboot flash system system.img
Just remember, flashing these partitions can, potentially, brick your phone. You do this at your own risk...
Happy flashing....

Thanks for your help. I did that earlier with the latest pre-rooted OTA and now it gets stuck on the splashscreen. I tried going to recovery (stock now) and doing a factory reset after flashing system.img and it still the splashscreen after I reboot. I know the 1st boot after flahing a ROM can be long, but now it's been an hour and I'm still on the splash screen...
The only other thing I can recommend is to flash a RAW rom image. As I have never needed to do this I can't say how this works but if you do a search you should find out the procedure...
This may relock your bootloader so just be aware....

Boot into fastboot. Flash stock recovery via adb. Boot into recovery. Sideload stock OS
OR
Boot into fastboot. Flash TWRP recovery ( official / modified). Boot into recovery. Wipe. Flash 3.2.7 Firmware. Wipe. Reboot into recovery. Flash custom ROM + gapps of your choice.

TWRP gets overwritten

I'm on latest ob18. I am able to flash it, and run it once, but after reboot, the stock recovery gets Back. Any ideas?
Just Reflash twrp via flashify or adb in fastboot mode, that could be normal if u r flash an unmodified stock rom
Yep. On latest ob-Oos or H2o for me recovery stays, after instaltion of the rom. But on a second reboot, stock recovery shows and i reflash custom recovery again.
Guys I flashed latest H2OS beta over OOS Beta18 and lost access to recovery. These are the steps I followed, please help.
1. Backup current ROM (OB18)
2. Dirty Flash New H2OS version
3. Flash recovery image again
4. Reboot system
ROM booted without any problems and all my data is present but I lost access to TWRP.
Solution attempted: Reboot to fastboot and flash recovery image again, the process is successful but still TWRP is not coming up.
Please help. Thanks in advance
Stock rom always over writes recovery best way to get it to stick is flash stock zip than twrp reboot to twrp and reboot or flash mods/root

In fastboot mode fastboot flash recovery twrpfilename Then you should have twrp back. (of course you need to have the twrp zip file on your computer)

I tried to Flash the recovery and it worked but the thing is that i cant seem to boot on TWRP.
I think that it Became Locked When i removed TWRP
So is there a way to unlock it again without anything but fastboot?
You can install boot.img via fastboot method
After that you can flash twrp in recovery mode
You should get an unpacked stock image of the system, boot and recovery partition (if you need that, I can provide one); then, you’ll have to flash every partition you need to recover with fastboot.
