I was wondering if there was some method for rooting the LG G3 on Android 5.0 (Lollipop). I've searched far and wide on the internet but have found nothing so far. I did see that there were methods for the Nexus devices but nothing for LG.
Would like this as well. I thought I could live a while without root.. Seems like I just can't. :crying:
I think that you can find already rooted lollipop version on the forum.
For now, i nowhere found any root options.
Sent from my LG-D855
now it's impossible to root lollypop via purpledrake, ioroot or other programs but you can flash a rooted bumped rom.
I'll wait for this.
Same situation here.
Planned to use the pre-rooted lollipop but to use it you need twrp on the phone. To get twrp you need first root. So its a dead end, a points on b and b points back on a, both needing the other present first.....
Maybe if you flash an older kdz, root it with any of the previous methods, then get twrp on the phone and then flash the pre-rooted lollipop. Im just gonna wait for a lollipoproot without twrp needed.

I am on 5.0 and tried purpledrake (since i used it with 4.4.2), but it did not work, i also tried Stump and got an error too. With 5.0 the structure has changed and the methods for KK are different to Lollipop. So far, even with Nexus, the only way to root is through bootloader/kernel.
Hopefully soon we will see a method that can bypass this.
This is the method that works on the d855 by skin1980 - http://forum.xda-developers.com/lg-g3/development/rom-lollipop-rooted-rom-skin1980-t2936022

Yup, thats the reason why i downgraded it to KK. Downgrade, root and you can install rooted L.

Does that work then? I'm on Lollipop 20a on the D855. If i install the KK kdz, will it make the phone rootable again? I read something to do with the boot loader not reverting back to how it was before lollipop

Use this guide to downgrade http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2785089
(you can flash almost any KK KDZ, v10x of course, but make sure it's for your device)
Root it with your preferred root method (i prefer Purple Drake)
BUMP it http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2900614
Now you can flash the bumped roms you'll like. Just make sure, it's for your device.
lg g3 d855 5.0
Had the bumped 5.0 twrp flashed the wrong superSU so went back to stock took the 5.0 OTA update now searching for root solution, tried purple drake no joy puts it in the mode but fails as expected, so i guess i will also wait

This Link here demonstrates successful rooting of LG Devices. A list of tested devices is there. I have tried this method on my F240K but it just keeps sitting there on last step after executing root script.
Other people are welcomed to test it on stock lollipop. Maybe it works.

Upgraded to Marshmallow. Anyway to get permanent root and/or to get TWRP?
I got temporary root using Kingroot APK and I changed DPI when I restart I have no root.
Can I install TWRP using the TWRP manager then install super su to give me permenant root?
The only way I can think of is using lg flash and flashing the KitKat TOT then upgrade back to marshmallow using TWRP as posted a couple of days ago.
My friend has done this however he is having modem issues (he is using D855 as well, upgraded from Lollipop ) even when flashing 21c Lollipop modem. I didn't want to risk it so I flashed the KDZ file.
Does anyone have any other way as to getting permanent root and TWRP on Marshmallow other than the risky way i thought of?
Thank you

Please guys its not that hard just a quick search in the forum will give you your answer....Yes its already possible im running marshmallow now with permanent root..
Hi tallman43. I agree. And believe me when I say I have been reading the forums trying to search for the answer.
My predicament, as maybe with others, is that I seem to be in a catch 22. If I don't have root, I can't install TWRP, and to install TWRP, I seem to need root.
I will admit that I am against Kingroot. What I was hoping for was to maybe push TWRP via download mode. I don't know or have found if this is even possible.
Either way I will continue reading, searching and learning. Any help if it is not too imposing would be great.
As with original poster, I have wiped and freshly installed MM, so I don't have root, or recovery. If I could only get this started I'll self help and contribute to the community from there.
Cheers

Seems to have the answers to those like me who have not upgraded via TWRP but chose to install kdz from scratch and have lost TRWP in the process.
Good luck everybody!
Alright so i got me a LG G3 and decided i wanted to root it but realized i was on software verison D85130e so there was no root so i found a thread that said downgrade using KDZ well i follwed the insructions to downgrade to D851020E 00 and when i use LG flash tool 2014 it does bot recognize my phone also it will start doing the upgrade stop at 3% pop a error up and try to restart . Now my question is there a way too root or downgrade D85130e ?
thanks in advance
The only way your going to downgrade from 30E is by using LG UP to flash official TOT file. Then from there you will be on KitKat 4.4.2 Google search for the Official build from this link: http://forum.xda-developers.com/tmobile-lg-g3/general/firmware-t-mobile-lg-g3-t2818667
Yes thank you i actually figured it out
I did the same as you, I cannot root 30e, I downgrade to 30d with lg flash tool 2014 and the kdz. then temp root, then twrp, then root.
Downgrade LG G3 from D85130e to D85130d flashing KDZ with LGUP

I managed to successfully downgrade D85130e to D85130d flashing KDZ with LGUP and I'm still on MM 6.0. I've attached a screenshot of the Software info after flashing kdz.
I haven't yet attempted root, so for the time being I disabled OTA Updates by entering 277634#*# into the dialer. From there select Wifi Test, OTA then Disable.
For those that would like the links to the files I downloaded, I will update with those later tonight.

I used NewKingroot ver. 4.9.6. It got me initially got me temp root, then Full root after flashing TWRP, installing LG-D85130D-Flashable.Boot -AUTOREPACK.zip & SuperSu.
Why? If you flash supersu in twrp then you'd have a rooted 30e!

Based upon what I read on other threads, I had the impression it was not currently possible to root 30e. I saw several posts advising to downgrade to 30d because root was only temp with 30e.
I am now on 30d but I suppose could always return to 30e and root again if I feel the need.
The main reason I rooted is so i could remap my MOGA Gamepad to play touch only games with Tincore Keymapper or BT/USB Joystick Center but now I need to find a compatible ROM and Kernel.
Refer to my thread
http://forum.xda-developers.com/tmo...ck-d851-30e-kdz-flashable-zips-t3478560/page1
Yea when i first tryed it i could not get the flash tool to work with 30e and i realized you can only go back so far so i used lg flash tool 2014 and flashed to 30d and temp rooted with kingroot downloaded flashify and flashed TWRP then went into TWRP flashed the Autorepack theb SU cause going throough ADB shell would not flash TWRP correctly for some reason. But i think it is because i did not flash the AUTOREPACK in twrp only SuperSu and that was messing me up cause i thoigh adb shell was installing the repack but i figured it out .
Friends, i'm trying to downgrade my g3 to 30D and when I try to flash through LG Flash tool 2014, nothing happens. I don't see any update progress in my phone and in the tool, it is stuck at 10%. appreciate your help here.

Does anyone know if there is an established way to downgrade from ZVI to any previous firmware? For example, would the method listed here be bad for any obvious reason?
My goal is to root my phone, flash a custom recovery, and finally flash a custom rom but it seems that everyone on ZVI has not found a way to root successfully. I've tried the one-click method, as well as the script to no avail.
Thanks!
Google LG ls990 return to stock xda
You will find a thread with 2 options.
Use the 2nd. You will need PC, USB cable turn on developer options and USB debugging
Have to download a .tot file and LG flash software
On windows 10 I had to run in compatability mode, worked on previous versions of windows, pick windows 7
You have to use adb commands in thread.
Anyways after you get back to stock. Upgrade using ota all the way to zvb. Then you can use the adb commands to root. Then download twrp official app from okay store and use that with root access to install twrp.

Peter , I don't see a link . I too am trying to find a way to downgrade from ZVI . I've never taken an LG phone back to stock or downgraded stock . I'm use to samsung and don't want to brick my phone . I'm still trying to find the thread you mentioned with 2 options . Were you on ZVI ? thanks
Sorry. Been MIA. Seems that thread was removed by admins. The one you posted first should work fine as it sounds like exactly what I did.
Can't remember exactly but I'd say the phone was updated OTA as far as it could before this rollback.
Hope you got it all worked out.
G3 was and still is just a backup for me.
