My WIFI internet speed test results:
Laptop (i5 4GB ram running Win7, Chrome ) - 1.08 mbps download
ZF2 (2.3GHz and 4GB ram, Chrome ) -1.3 mbps download
Even though the speedtest numbers are similar, my laptop is markedly faster in loading websites and streaming videos, especially when using multiple tabs. Actually i find streaming html5 videos relatively slow on my phone especially the initial buffer period.
For example, my laptop will start playing a video as soon as i click on it, while a similar video will take at least 40 seconds to start playing on my phone. Worst still, if i seek a different time stamp, it will buffer again wasting my time and annoy the heck out of me. Streaming HD videos, naturally is out of the question.
Is this normal or is there something wrong with my phone? I just upgraded from a galaxy s2 btw and so far, i find the upgrade rather unremarkable tbh.

So I've checked through the forums quite a bit and I can't seem to come up with a really good way to stream movies or tv from my pc to my phone without the quality being absolute destroyed. (OrbCaster)
Is there any way of streaming from my PC to my phone without losing a ton of quality?
VLC can do it, and there's apps in the Market to remote control the program on your computer.
'Course, if you try to go beyond streaming on your LAN (ie, over 3G), forget it. Quality's pretty much always going to be crap, because consumer uplink connections suck, as does 3G in general.
Well, I have 2mbps upload at home, and at work, where I'd be watching this, I'd be on wifi with 30mbps down. Is that still too crappy to work?

Its not the download in most cases its the upload. I have 2mbps at home as well and a slingbox and it plays great over WiFi and OK over 3G. Consider getting a Slingbox best 100 bucks I have spent on anything like that. Works great.
I love the surface RT, except for the internet. I'm wondering if everyone else feels the same. Certain websites are awful, even reddit takes almost 10 seconds before I can scroll. Not to mention back paging, its horrible waiting for the unit to become responsive again on top of trying to figure out how many times I have to hit the back button before IE actually goes to the previous page.
I have a couple ad block lists installed, just refreshed WinRT and back to fully updated. Is anybody else unhappy with IE performance on the RT? Any suggestions from those who've boosted performance somehow?

No problems here except on very long pages. IE10 on my PC is laggy on those too.
Open the Desktop Mode, IE, Manage Addons, Tracking Protection, get lists online, I would recommend at least two: Easylist and Fanboy.
You will notice right away an improve in IE.

my Brower experience is awful as well. Super slow and unresponsive every time a web page loads.
I have two ad block lists active already. I think I noticed a difference when I activated them, but that was a while ago and performance is still crappy now. For example, going to my Gmail inbox takes 15 seconds for the page to become responsive....
So disappointing, I love this thing but when I avoid opening it up because I get frustrated by something so simple as internet browsing... and I'm sure its a software fix! Seriously, the iPad only does one thing right, internet, and that's why its such a hit. MSFT wtf?!
i must disagree, on my DELL XPS 10 the internet performance is SUPERB! one of the fastest internet browser ever on a mobile devices. and flash player works perfect, even access to mic and webcam, is possible, e.g. chatroulette is working. there is no other device that can do that!

Is there a config file you can post? I don't know IE and what settings could affect performance, but maybe if I just copy whatever makes your machine fast.
Anybody on the interwebz know a way I can copy Turkishflavor's IE10 settings form a dell xps 10 to my surface RT?
I noticed horrible lag, some pages taking upwards 30 seconds to become responsive, with certain sites (XDA being one of them) that were related to advertisements. Tracking lists (and later a hosts that blocks a bunch of them) helped me out.
what is it good for?
Absolutely nothing!
I laughed my @$$ off when I saw the ad for Asus vivo vs iPad on tv... The vivo tab Rt is absolutely crap, pos..
Tracking lists made my IE a lot more responsive. Without them visiting this site was a torture.

The Dell has a Snapdragon(KRAIT) that is faster than the Tegra 3(A9), this is why his performance is better than that of a T3 powered device. If you want better performance you'll have to wait for some serious overclock tools or a model refresh with a Snapdragon S800 or Exynos Octa.

I'd prefer the a15 based tegra4 personally but I expect the RT will get a refresh eventually.
The enoxys isn't a full octacore technically. Only 4 cores are active at one time. It is essentially 2 processors on one chip, a full power high clock speed a15 and a second lower power quad core (I think a9 based). Usually the low power mode is used, but when needed the low power chip shuts down and hands all activity over to the full power CPU. So at any one time it can be treated as a quad core chip with a low power mode similar to the 5th companion core on Tegra 3 and 4 chips. Enoxys "octa" gets more hype than it deserves.
so i have a fairly new lg smart TV with built in chromecast..or their alternative..i can connect fine to it from my the phone, image comes up, looks clear, but its so choppy and stuttery that its unusable really..
the same thing happens with my asus memo pad..and one else experienced this or got any tips, cheers
I have had this problem when my internet speed just wasn't fast enough for streaming. We were suppose to have 30 mbps but in reality it was 2-3 mbps, Hargray said we lost all that speed due to it being a wireless connection. We got rid of Hargray, got TimeWarner, paid for 50 mbps, and in reality wirelessly we still got 50 mbps wirelessly and streaming was no longer a problem. This was not with miracast, but netflix and amazon streaming- but the principle is the same.
works very well with cm11.. yay
back to stock 4.6.1 and its ****, whats the difference between stock and cm11??
Over the past weekend I was attempting to watch the UFC fights through my Fire Stick using the SportsDevil add-on to Kodi.
When I was watching the preliminary fights there was some mild lag issues but definitely watchable in good quality. When the main event occurred it began freezing and there was no sound.
I attempted to watch on various channels and the same thing occurred. It would be ok for approximately 5-10 seconds and then slow down to a crawl like the others.
I was able to stream from the same websites (firstrow) on my computer to my chromecast and it worked ok.
My question is: do you think that the lagging nature of the stream from the fire stick was due to its low processing power? If that is the case would it be worth purchasing an actual Fire box or other Android box with a more powerful processor.
Thanks for the help!
I bought a aftv and noticed a big difference coming from the stick
i notice the lag and freezing more on the weekends or when there are main events even on my galaxy s5 was lag and freezing on pc win 8.1 dell intel cor i7 same maybe my 85mbps internet is not enough. LOL
i'm the firestick right now no issues at all on any freaking channel
I'm gonna have to try some tweaks with buffering and the acceleration and see if that helps out.
Some people had said that it was just server overload but that doesn't make sense to me if I'm able to connect to the exact same link/feed on my PC with absolutely no issues.
I thought it would be nice to get some numbers up here before Nougat comes out.
This way we will already have some data to put up against android N and it's Vulkan support.
Vulkan API is still in it's infancy though, so let's cross our fingers and toes that everything doesn't crash immediatly
I will dedicate the rest of the day to test a slew of games and jot down some results to get the ball rolling.
I'll update OP afterwards.
I will add to the forthcoming list if any of you have some results to share.. Both GC and Wii games are welcome.
If you do, it would be nice if you could include some information (which dev build you are using, settings etc.)
I was a bit quick to say that there were no extra strain in going for 17:9 (as opposed to 16:9) which is true for games that have no issues with this hack.
I do realise there are some games that do not like streching beyond widescreen.
After testing for a while now, it seems at least most games can handle the 16:9 hack. I have therefore also tried "force 16:9" in native resolution.
Tested on 5.0-2134, settings changed are aspect ratio set to "stretch to screen" (or force 16:9) and native resolution 1x and 3x.
-The Legend of Zelda: The Wind Waker
1x: From 18-30fps depending on area. In 16:9 I'm getting the same numbers.
3x: 3-4fps at worst, usually hovers around 12-14fps outside (18-20 at sea). 24-30 inside houses
-Metroid Prime
1x: Between 28/30 and 42fps. Not enjoyable. The same in 16:9.
3x: From 12/13 - 24/30fps
-Bomberman Generation
1x: Solid 50fps. Menus / pause screen does not show. Perfectly playable. Since it runs fine there is nothing to gain by switching to 16:9.
3x: 29-32fps. Not great, but not that much to gain visually, so much better off running at native resolution.
-Luigi's Mansion
1x: Stays mostly @ 30fps. Lightning and some stuttering can bring it down to 26fps. Cutscenes @ solid 60fps. Same with 16:9.
3x: 15-17, depending on room can come up to 22-24fps. Cutscenes halved and slow @ 30fps.
Luigi's flashlight beacon and the poltergust suction have flat colors. Gonna try some more settings here and see if it changes anything.
-NBA Street 3
1x: Between 18-25fps. Same in 16:9.
3x: 15-19fps
-Donald Duck Phantomias PK
1x: Swings wildly between 26-42fps. 31-48fps in 16:9.
3x: 12/13 and often falls down to 9fps.
-007 From Russia With Love
1x: 8fps. In 16:9 anything from 10/12 to 22 depending on how busy the scene is.
3x: Same as native, rarely over 8fps.
-F-Zero GX
1x: 4-8fps ingame, but getting alot of panic toasts. This one is struggeling hard and I can't get past the startline as it just automatically retires. 16:9, double the speed (16fps) but same issues.
3x: Why bother
-Doshin The Giant
1x: 30fps, can drop a couple of frames at times but fairly stable. In 16:9 between 37 and 40fps.
3x: Around 20fps, can vary from 16-23fps.
These numbers are not really accurate, since the trees are not loading, which in turn means you can't progress in the game at all. I just had to test this one, as this is one of those odd games I actually owned back in the day.
-The Legend of Zelda: Four Swords Adventures
1x: 45-49fps. Works pretty good, but sound has some stutters. Ruins the experience a bit. If you run this in 4:3 or force 16:9 than it is perfect. Go play this now
3x: 24-27fps
I have much more to try out, but I thought I would have more time to sit down with this the last few days.
Was also halted quite a bit when Sixaxis did not want to play ball. Would connect and I give no errors. It would work great everywhere in android, even in Dolphin.
When I ran a game though, nothing would register. Had never experienced that in an emu before. No solution other than to reinstall Sixaxis and remap buttons to Dolphin.
Will update with many more when I get the time.
I think I made a comment about this on a thread I made some where else, I hope there's a solution for this phone so far it crashes when try to open, if you manage to make it work I'll be awesome. keep us posted thanks

You mean dolphin crashes upon opening? Hmm not experiencing that, although on some builds that has happened when exiting a game.
Wind waker for example (gc version) is getting close now. So I am really hoping Vulkan can give a nice boost. In "1080p" (3 x native resolution) I'm getting up to 26-30fps inside houses and such, but it is not reliable, and can fall down to 10-12 when panning around open areas, even 3-4 in the worst areas if you have an open space cluttered with stuff and lots of grass. Even though grass seems like the biggest killer, in some areas it doesn't have that much of an effect. Each game have their own weird framedrops on their respective platforms, so one can easily assume it's no better when it is being emulated.
Running it in it's native resolution, you never fall below 18fps, and can pretty much be played through to the end (unless there are some game breaking glitches or crashes that arises). It's not entirely comfy just yet.
I don't really get any noticeable drops by going from 4:3 to forced 16:9 either (the same with 16:9 and stretched to screen i.e. 17:9).
Therefore to not add too many variables here I'm trying most games now in 17:9, 1x and 3x native resolution. Everything else is ticked off for speed. No need to try with anti aliasing etc, it will most likely just make most games crumble down to slideshows.
I will only later tinker more with games that are simpler and closer to perfection. My nexus 9 can't keep up with this powerhouse:laugh:
It's all about those damn drivers though.
But there is no magic here. You just need the apk and uncorrupted iso's and you should be golden. Have you tried different builds?
awesome let us know when you get it working good enough to be playable and you'll get lots of friends, thanks for your hard work and good luck to you and hopefully to all of us. thanks

Maybe I'm reading into your post wrong, but I'm not fixing or modding anything. Just testing so we have something we can use to isolate improvements when we switch to Vulkan. I'm sorry I've not posted anything yet. Had three birthdays the last days, incl. my own. But have gone through some games, and will do some more tomorrow afternoon. I'll make sure to post my findings then.
oh. ok thanks thogh for doing it.
Super
Super Mario Bros Wii,super Mario Galaxy,Mario tennis,DBZ Budokai Tenkaichi 3,Mario Sunshine,Double Dash, smash bros if can test all of these in the default resolution
Dolphin 5.0-2699 (fastest version for Xiaomi Mi Mix)
Mario Power Tennis
1X - 20 - 50 fps during gameplay
- Usually hovers around 30fps during gameplay 1/2 speed
Super Mario Sunshine
1X - 15 - 30fps
Too slow to be enjoyable but looks great
Tried boosting by overclock but it seems to hover at 18fps in most areas
Super Smash Bros Melee
1X - 25 - 55 fps
1vs 1 is almost always running at 50 -55fps
1vs 4 drops to around 30 , playable but slow
Mario Kart Double Dash
Graphic issues prevent me from running this one at all, everything is greyed out and there's no point running it at all
Fire Emblem: Path of Radiance
Run this one at overclock 35%
1X - 45 - 60 fps
By far the most playable , in fact I've almost beaten this game on the Mi Mix alone.
Almost no slowdown , drops to 45 during battle transition but bumps back up to 50+ in no time.
