What rom are you currently running, and why? - Galaxy Tab S Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hey, I wanted to know, of those of you who are still active in this forum, what rom are you using and why did you choose that rom.
I recently went back to stock briefly for a battery warranty claim. I was using and lime cm12.1 black for the sm700. Cm12.1 was very fast when I was using it compared to stock and some other roms .used

I am using the latest IronROM, TW roms may not be as fast and fluid as CM/AOSP roms but without TW I loose bluetooth Apt-X and some other stock features. IronROM is very stable and and a bit faster then stock TW.

SM-T800. I too was running IronROM but switched to Phoenix just to try it out. Like IronRom. Phoenix seems to be just a bit faster but not enough to matter much. I was actually looking for a ROM that would help me increase the volume of the Tab S beyond its normal capability. So far, it hasnt made much difference. I also tried PacMan and like it a bit better than phoenix, but it has a couple of quirks that I cant get around.

If you want to increase the audio install Viper4Android. It is simply a superior audio replacement going well beyond increasing the gain control.

Phoenix ROM - the fastest ROM I've used till date which retains the original features such as Fingerprint and multi-window abilities.

debloated stock rom. I briefly tried CyanogenMod 12 but i had overheat issues so I uninstalled it.

Was KNOX tripped and were you able to reset it to 0x0? If yes, how? Flash stock firmware with Odin?

I tried multiple methods of Flashing and purging of files but Knox remained tripped.

Tried pac rom battery drained fast and gets to 40°C on games compared to iron rom so i went back to iron rom

You have tab s 8.4 or 10.5?
Envoyé de mon SM-T705 en utilisant Tapatalk

10.5

PACROM is the best with the new update the only thing is that you cant use iron or skyhigh kernel for oc the igpu which could be nice for games like ASPHALT 8 who depend on the igup and not on the processor but since iron rom and phoenix look almost the same and use android 5.0.2 which suck on tab S well pac is better because he use 5.1.1 and on asphalt the graphic is not pixellised like on 5.0.2

Still on 4.1.2

Anyone else still this far back? I'm on Eclipse 412. I want to upgrade, but I've never found a rom that works as well. Tried some of the 4.2 and 4.4 but haven't found a good one yet. Didn't try any 4.3 for some reason. I just keep going back to 412, but Google services don't work on it and I'm sick of seeing that pop up on some apps. Though I'm wondering if maybe that's a good thing since I hear a lot abt Google services killing battery and stuff.

eclipse 4.1.2 was one of the best setups I've ever ran on this device. I've considered going back to it recently even, not sure what you mean about Google play services not working on it?
Google now doesn't work for example. I'll get a message saying "Google services cannot run on this device"

Must be only that ROM related issue.
Everything works fine with the PA 4.1.2 ROM I've still been running for 18+ months, but I did have some temporary Google issues from using a black theme, uninstalled theme and it was back to normal.
Test it out here:

time to upgrade to 4.3/4.4. they're better than 4.1.2 for sure. 4.3 is more fluid for sure. Try the stock 4.3 rom or purity 4.3 + franco. you won't be disappointed.

BETTER in what way exactly?
Cause I've tested all the 4.2/4.3/4.4 ROM's and nothing seems to work any BETTER than 4.1.2 for my needs, which for me is too have as many possible controls/functions available from touching the lower half of the screen, w/out having to sacrifice any screen space for status/navi bars and while holding it w/1 hand only using thumb, be it for any quick settings or launching/switching/closing apps or typing or turning the screen on/off/unlocked.
Extended desktop in 240dpi tablet mode helps too.

im on resurrection remix (4.4.2) and it is so much smoother and faster than the 4.3 and older ROMs ive tried (PA and PACMAN). I heard LiquidSmooth is also great so I consider upgrading to that at some point and switch to F2FS while im at it
Plenty of roms have the option to customize that nav and status bar (including hiding it for slide in) as well as app launchers and various other features. I recommend checking out reviews of popular roms on youtube or something, to check what the are capable of and then decide on which one to pick!

Skip 4.3 if you can, it is horribly slow and heavy. at least go to 4.2.2 or 4.4 would even be better in term of overall performance and device usability.

i found 4.2.2 rom sluggish. i didn't experience the memory leak bug on 4.3. even the stock launcher on 4.2.2 was little laggy
Just stick with 4.1.2 if that works best for you. 4.2 is very laggy and 4.3 and 4.4 are so-so(not as smooth as 4.1.2).

[Q] minimal Rom with S-Pen functions

Hi,
currently im running the stock 4.1.2 german Telekom Rom my N7105 came with because i thought it would last longer than the 4.4 nordic Rom i was using before, but with stock kernel and power savings mode i find it quite unusable (constantly lagging)
I have never used a non stock rom on my n7105 and quite frankly i am a bit lost.
Does anyone know a minimal rom (most Samsung apps removed, i only use S Note, a minimum of google apps, basically just the ones you need to run the play store) with a decent Battery Life? If there is no such rom which Stock KitKat Rom runs the smoothest?
From the looks of it DN3 would be way too bloated for me (if im mistaken please tell me) and as far as i can see the only alternative would be stock roms, all other seem to be based on cyanogenmod and co so there is no S-Pen functionality
also only Stock and Shift Kernel would be ok for me to use, because as much as i like the agni kernel i need to connect to a IPSec/PSK VPN which agni simply wont let me do. (or are there other kernels out there for the n7105?)

Slimkat is fully debloated ROM. Smooth on performance and battery life.
Sent from my GT-N7100 using Tapatalk
I thought slimkat is based on aosp and therefore lacks the s-pen functionality, im using my note exclusively with the s-pen (just not with the Samsung apps, except s-note)
Will the s-pen work in slimkat, for navigation, a note app (doesn't have to be s-note) and gmd s-pen control

You definitely want a TouchWiz-based ROM to get full benefits of the S Pen. Otherwise, it's just a cool-looking stylus that's sharper than a finger tip.
BUT, TouchWiz-based ROMs are filled with junk most of us will never use.
You can't have it both ways.
If you want full use of the S Pen, use the latest excellent DN3 and remove as many apps as possible to slim things down. That's what I'd do. I had the DN3 until the DN4 came out and it has excellent battery life.
Otherwise, Slimkat definitely sounds like a good lightweight choice.
I finally had some time yesterday and flashed Slimkat, will test it for a week or so and see how the battery holds up.
Yeah DN3 or complete Stock rom, which i would then debloat myself was plan b. (or better: still is plan b, depending on how much i like slimkat)
But i actually dont think i need more S-Pen Features than i have with SlimKat. Right now im trying Papyrus for Notes and GMD S-Pen Control for Gestures which is pretty much the same functionality i used before (well airview for information and scrolling would be neat too, are there any third party apps which enable this?)
I also like JusWrite (stylus edition) for quick note reminders, and SignEasy to sign documents. You can also try everything from MyScript.
I'm running SlimWiz. It's the best ROM with Note 3 S-Pen features and S5 stuff. The phone runs very very smooth.

Stock Based Vs AOSP

Have a question... What's the main benefict of using a stock based ROM? It will have all stocks apps, and have functional 4k recording and all those problems aosp suffer, or it's just because it's based on the stock ROM?
Like for example what does Cloudy ROM can have, that another ROM that isn't stock based can't.
Thanks in advance,
Hope you understand my question

The "gimp" depends on which variant you have. Like the D855 has great aosp ROMs while others are getting issues here and there cause the 5.0 source hasn't been released for them yet.
So if you're one of those other variants, you can expect things like bad (or not as good) camera, sound issues (mainly music), not as good battery life (not major though) and modem/radio connection issues. That being said, some devices aren't getting those issues.
Also, stock is Kitkat while AOSP is on Lollipop. You gotta ask yourself if the extra features you're getting off AOSP are worth the bad things.
P.S.: I personally prefer AOSP but am waiting on source to use it as my daily.

First, a tiny bit for Lollipop defenders. Yes, i always did a full wipe, always installed same apps set up in the same way manually. I always updated cust, rpm and tz to relevant versions. And i always gave system 24h to make all needed background syncs.
Official 5.0 is bad, because of:
1) Lags. Animation is still choppy. Applications are slow to launch, etc.
2) Heat. Phone heats up way more than on KK.
3) Battery. SOT is noticeably worse.
Since LL came out not too long ago, all AOSP roms based on it are still in alpha phase. I believe that most issues will be sorted out later.
AOSP LL is bad because of:
1) Lags. There is way less lags than on official LL, but there are sudden and unpredictable slowdowns.
2) Battery. It is worser than official LL, which makes it almost unusable. 4h SOT (in the same conditions in which official LL lasted 6 and KK 8) is bad.
3) Everything proprietary is more or less broken. Worse (Or none at all?..) low light algorithms in camera software, no Qmemo, etc etc etc.
My advice? Stay on KK for now. LL still needs a lot more polishing...

Best ROM?

I'm trying to figure out the best ROM for the g3. I also understand that a good amount of this is going be opinion however this is fine by me . As personal experience with a daily ROM driver is best.
A few key features are things like longer battery life and the double tap to wake. Are really important. I'm using blisspop currently and everything outside of double tap taking forever or never working.

I purchased a phone with illusion rom already on it. Double tap works great and battery life seem great. I'm also exploring ROMS but wanted to give you my feedback.
I came from a sammy ROM that allowed me to customize everything so a little disappointing so far. not even sure if xposed works on this phone.

xposed definitely works on G3. I have 6 modules activated, and looks to me that the repository is the same as sammy. I'm running stock rooted, with SkyDragon kernel 1.61. LG is definitely different, but even stock is almost half size of full touchwiz.

I'm using stock rooted 10r, with skydragon 1.61 kernel untouched. I tried using the AOSP/CM/PA 5.whatever ROMS, and had too much instability and compatibility problems. My guess is that either you are trying the wrong version of the framework, or it is incompatible with the Rom you are using. Search the illusion thread, and I think they may have a Q&A in the general section. I have been running this for a week or more with no issues whatever. Good luck :good:
Illusion is a Lollipop Rom. You have to use the Xposed alpha for lollipop and not the standard release. Search xda and you'll find a read only thread from the dev...And a mess of a discussion forum. There are issues with Xposed alpha & a few LG apps, so use with caution if you flash an LG Lollipop Rom...notably smart cover and a couple weather apps.

Stock Rom vs Custom Roms.

Today, I went back to the Stock rom, Lg G3 marshmallow... even tho i have bloatwares of Tmobile and other apps, the performance is smooth, battery is good also i found that the phone doesn't get hot on the back like when using custom roms.
I have been using different custom roms, like N&N, Fulmics 5.3 and 6.0 ... etc but all had the issue of getting my phone super hot and not smooth as stock.
Are you using a custom rom for Lg g3?
If yes, which one and why you choose it over the stock? pros and cons of the custom rom?
Thanks!

I been off of stock for awhile now. I rooted my phone and flashed a custom rom within two weeks. Way too much bloatware on stock. I tried a few roms. My favourite was Dirty Unicorns, but I am on Slimsabre 5.1.1. now. I am considering trying Paranoid Android to see how it is. Plus right now I am running without gapps, which is another advantage to custom roms. My battery life has greatly improved and I love it without Google Play Services. I prefer the AOSP roms over even stock roms like Fulmics. I tried Fulmics and I wasn't really impressed with it. More customization I have found, and I like the custom kernels settings that are available. Only thing I do miss is the knock code feature. It was so much easier and faster to unlock the phone that way. I had overheating issues as well. Once I lowered my resolution to 1080p the overheating woes were done.

well.. AOSP has a big disadvantage for me because of the Camera quality, a lot of force close and the lack of features, IR blaster and keyboard...but i guess some were ported?... and i guess the knock code feature can be added through xposed? i remember seeing a module there.
Also, not sure i can live without gapps, for updates and looking for apps and also the voice commands, make the phone smart, useful and fun.
overheating issues with aosp?
At the end, we are going to end up with AOSP one day because of Nougat won't be supported by snapdragon 801... and CM is doing a good job with it but it seems that what they are going to port is just some features and the UI... which makes it quiet hard to leave the full stock rom for AOSP .

Yes the camera quality suffers but for me, I don't use the camera really so I am fine with it. The knock code from xposed only works when the screen is on, which defeats the purpose of the knock code I think. There is f-droid, and apk's that I use. Plus if I switch roms, titanium backup has my apps backed up so it saves the headache of having to install each one again. I've been getting away from Google do no Gapps is the first part. I am starting to trust open source more now. I had overheating issues but once I lowered the resolution to 1080p it fixed the issue.
