Need Advice ( ROM ) SM-P600 - Galaxy Note 10.1 (2014 Edition) Q&A, Help & Troubl

Hey guys,
I didnt use any rom before , that why i need your advice. I live in Turkey, and we still didnt get the update of kitkat.
I wanna update rom, but if there is custom roms good for this, i'd like to install it. But some people say battery performance decreases. My tablet's battery is like %10 = 1 hour. I use it for taking note in collage via squid ( papyrus ) app. Thats why battery is important for me.
I use pen almost all the time, its important too.
If you know good rom, suggest me

I get good battery life with hyperdrive but I have not tried any other rom yet. I use it to watch movies at work and I work 12 hours and on full charge is can watch 12 hours movie with minimal brightness and power saver. I work night shifts so it dark where I am and therefore don't need the brightness up.

what if i dont like the rom, can i get back my old rom ?

If you make sure to make a backup with TWRP (as most tutorials would advise you to), you should be able to go back to your original firmware. Flashing a custom recovery like TWRP will trip the warranty bit ("knox") if that's a concern for you, i.e. Samsung might refuse warranty services. If your warranty has expired anyway that shouldn't be an issue (and otherwise up to you whether you take the risk).
I have made great experiences with the temasek CyanogenMod 12.1 (Lollipop-based) that's maintained by joshndroid. Can't but a number on it, partly because I usually charge before dropping lower than 25%, but I'm pretty sure I get well over 10h usage out of it (my battery app says 27h at currently 87%, but of course that estimate is based on me currently not using the tablet).

For non-TW based I would do temasek or BrokenOS. I average 7 hours SOT.

[Q] Most stable custom ROM avail

Hi all,
I know most of you guys use CM7 RC0 But I just want to know which is the most stable custom ROM which has all the features avail and no FCs or ANRs?
I almost tried all the ROMs including Stock Eclair, Froyo, CM7, MIUI, China Unicom etc. Currently using China Unicom 2.10,
My main concern is about battery coz no matter which ROM i use I get only a day of battery life :
So I'm looking for a Froyo/Gingerbread ROM which gives MAX battery life, supports HD video recording, fast and stable. Of course Ill stick on to CM7 once the official version gets released.
I am also looking for a rom with good batt usages n smoothness will wait untill any1 rreplies

for good battery life, please keep the 2G on, and switch to 3G only when needed. this is probably the best thing you can do for your battery life. also, make sure the baseband is correct for your usage. however, only you will be able to do this yourself. try a few until you hit a good one.
cheers!

Well.. Of course I always follow the tips to conserve the battery like setting to 2G, very few animations, setvsel to undervolt, not many widgets. But still I get around 1 to 1.5 days of backup.
I have been using CM7 beta 6 for a few weeks already and it has been pretty stable. Lasts around 3.5 days with moderate use. Heavy use( a lot of phone calls), around 1.5 - 2 days.
Just make sure that you select the correct baseband.

Yes, I install the correct baseband everytime I change the ROM, I'm suspecting my sim might be the culprit which is not letting the phone to go to DSM. Ill change it and see..
How stable and cool is Pays rom???
If you can get through a full day with the "micro laptop" we now refer to as a phone, you're in good shape! Plug it in every night and be happy.
If your particular usage patterns don't get you through a full day, or if you can't plug in every night, there are plenty of extended battery options available.
You guys need to understand that the manufacturers are forced to decide between battery life and size/packaging. Today's phones are designed to be practical for the average consumer who is able to plug in/recharge their phone every day. And fortunately, the aftermarket offers us the option of getting longer battery life in exchange for a larger package (ie 3500+ mAh batteries with covers)...

Well, You are right.. But I'm very Jealous that many people get 3 to 4 days of battery backup on an avg usage, I have seen posts where they mentioned 6 days of battery backup using the china unicom's rom, So I flashed the ROM hoping Ill atleast get 2 - 3 days of backup.. but even that didnt help..

Turn off your data connection and any automatic syncing. Your phone will go a full week if it just sits there sleeping the whole time ;-)

Need some guidance :/

The note 2 is known to be the complete phone even till this day... right? and its outstanding part is the battery... right?
I see many people get 5 hours minimum screen on time with usage more than me! My max is 5 hours if I'm lucky, mainly only 3 and a half hours screen on a day. Ive tried a bunch of different roms but no luck, even stock with UV but nothing :/
Is there a combination of rom and kernel that someone could recommend me to see if it'll help? I prefer AOSP roms but there battery hasnt been the best for me but maybe with UV itll work out better?
Any help is appreciated
Thank you

I believe, TW Roms have better battery life than AOSP ones.(haven't proved it) Additional mods, like Note 3 mods or S5 mods, tend to consume more RAM + Battery 'cause they are designed for phones with higher RAM, so try to avoid them. Root apps like Greenify, freezing some apps using TB, and doing the common saving tips(auto brightness, silent mode, off mobile data, etc.) will also help a lot in battery.
Last thing, batteries also tend to degrade in quality, so sometimes it falls short of its expected length of use.
Hope I help even a little.
Hmm I could be more battery cautious, what rom is designed for battery performance like the meanbean rom but that's not for the international version :/

imho, using aosp on n7100 is not a smart choice. in my experience they have almost the same battery drain as sammy. i tried many roms, now i'm testing revolution hd 23 and with some greenifying everything runs smoother, i have 4% of drain during all the night standby with wifi on, i can't get better on any other rom. i think i'll trust this rom for a while. cheers
Hmm I've tried the android revolution rom and it didn't really suit my usage battery wise. I think I may need a new battery since this one has been going for a while :-/

Battery Life TERRIBLY sucks

My battery life on 4.3 stock was 8 hours screen time (half brightness I believe)
Rooted and flashed a custom rom and kernel 7hr30min screen time
Flashed different kernels dropped to 6hr max screen time (without factory reset)
After installing Xposed and many many modules the screen time kept dropping to like 5hr to 6hr
Updated to KitKat and rooted 4:30min to 5 HOUR MAX screen time PLUS phone got hot ALOT OF TIMES
***RIGHT NOW*** Flashed a custom ROM HyperDrive with Colonel X latest and Compulsion latest BOTH 3hr30min to 4hr30min MAX screen on (EVEN with Jovy23's kernel settings that got him AMAZING battery life with ConservativeX governor - It still did not fix the issue not even a little - I still like Compulsion which was awesome when I was on jellybean) :'(
Same settings for all the above set ups. Whenever I flash a ROM I ALWAYS clean flash and I DO NOT have Titanium Backup NOR do I use any other restoration app. I tried to clear and format every partition. I formatted SD card. SAME issue. I am frustrated by the battery life; it DOES NOT last me a day when on stock unrooted it was easily 8 hours. Also I do not use auto-brightness cuz the sensor uses more battery, so it was on half-brightness)
Someone please help me. The worst thing about a phone is the battery life. I usually browse Chrome and Facebook and for these simple tasks my battery dies quickly (WTH?!). I can't even think about gaming (and I REALLY want to GAME), but I know the battery life would die so much.
Is my phone defective? I tripped Knox. I already had a warranty replacement in like the first 2 weeks cuz of Knox issues stock. WTH is wrong with my phone. I want to format and clean EVERY SINGLE THING on my phone to get it the 8 hours screen on time I used to get. No matter what I do my battery life right now WILL NOT go above 4hr30min to 5hrs screen on. I used to watch Netflix for quite a while back on my stock Jellybean / rooted Jellybean days, now it dies extremely fast.
What should I do? I was thinking of flashing AOSP so it cleans up whatever Touchwiz and Samsung related is on my phone and then re-flash touchwiz so everything is set up correctly. I tried to use the mega-wipe script for a certain Note 3 model but it stopped at like 10% to 20%, so that route did not go well (I manually wiped everything data, internal, etc, before flashing many ROMs and this problem persisted).
I cannot do anything good on my phone until this issue is fixed. I hate clean-flashing and setting up things (I think titanium backup and stuff screws up your system) all the time. I cannot game, I cannot download good apps, I cannot do anything that is not online based or can be backed up online. Apparently my battery state is stated as "good" on the system.
"... All of this in under one day..." Give it a few cycles over the next few days. It'll change. I've been using HyperDrive with ColonelX with the conservative governor tweaked for performance. Can't really say much about the battery life since I have the 10000mAh battery.

Dude, if it's all under one day. You need to let a ROM and kernel set In. You can't drive a car without wheels. Just give it 2 or 3 days it will begin to get better. That's what I think too but I give it some days to stabilised if you will . Then my battery goes from normal to good to great. It won't right away start getting great battery life. Unless you have a kernel your phone don't like and flash another it does like battery life improvements where almost instant at least in my case. Like now I'm getting Ok battery life. It's not the best. But it holds. I might switch kernels tonight to spice things up.

I meant the right now part is under a few days. Idk why i said all under one day (it was late night). This has beena problem since February at least
Trust me I know you have to let a ROM and Kernel set in but my phone keeps working harder than its supposed to. Screen off battery is good, so wake locks are not the problem. The problem is cpu wise something is messed up that it puts my cpu to drain huge amounta of battery
Even you tried another or different ROM still happens?

The rom and kernels might be the one messing your battery life, since your battery is in good state, but why not try replacing a battery if you have an extra and see the results...

How do you find that out?
There is an app that can report this value. The premise is that certain cpu's have different values which indicate how the cpu will perform. The problem is, the same cpu can over time end up reporting different values which pretty much means it is not really a set hardware value and most likely means nothing.
You can find the large thread about it if you look, but it was pretty much debunked as a really value at the time.
first download the new rom http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2709867
put it on a sd card
make sure you have a custom recovery
1 go to setting back up and recovery do a reset from there
2 let the reset be done then restart the phone and go to recovery
from recovery do a full wipe factory restet
3 install the zip from the sd card
4 pick the apps you want with aroma installer and install compulsion kernel
4 finish installation and boot up
set up the phone and enjoy it bro.....

Nice battery life enhancer.
You have to let the rom settle before you can get accurate battery life akin to the rom and kernel. Trust me I know this as a fact. I have been flashing roms like crazy since the days of the Samsung admire and the rom takes days to settle.

I have the same problem. 4.3 battery life was 6 hours screen time, 4.4 down to 3 hours screen time. Note 3 used to be my ideal, perfect phone. 4.4 ruined that.

You made sure to toggle allows allow scanning off?
Toggle either power-saving or GPS only under location?
Power saving mode if applicable?
Turning of haptic feedback?
The always allow scanning seems to be the number one battery killer for me. I turned that off and noticed immediately better battery life. Almost akin to an extra minute per one percent, which adds up.

Yep, did all that stuff from day 1 back on 4.3. Updating to 4.4 was the most frustrating thing ever. Many people here report great battery life with 4.4, but many like myself had it slashed in half upon upgrading. It ruined an otherwise perfect phone.

Just bought the Note 10.1 2014... and the battery is horrible. 3.5 hours max.

I love everything about the tablet, but I am strongly considering returning it because the battery is so bad.
I was watching a movie last night, and I noticed that I had 70% left... and after the 2 hour movie I was down to less than 15%. That can not be the norm. That's horrible.
I'm thinking about rooting it to a custom ROM and/or returning it.
Any ideas or suggestions on this?

That is definitely not normal. I've had mine for almost a year and even on stock ROM I was getting 5 1/2 hours (I play a lot of games) screen time with a day or two of battery life. It would help if you posted a screen shot of you're battery usage after your next full charge so we can better help you.

I had the same issue with yours when I first bought my table. I'm so piss that I don't care about knox counter any more and rooted my device. Currently I'm running custom rom/kernel with screen on time about 8+ hrs watching HD stream movies through the internet. Also, sleeping time is incredible long and I found love again.

It's mostly stock rom so it very stable, the main engine is the Xluco custom kernel. This rom is using the latest NJ1 the latest stock rom (which is the best to date stock rom) slim (debloated), so your device would give you the best of both world, battery life, performance and stability. I have done the following in order to add an extra 1 to 1 -1/2 hrs to my device.
1) Installed Glowing battery (set to extreme), no need to play around, it does it job well
2)Go into application running and freeze all un-needed service/apps. If you have question about what you can freeze from your list just ask here. Currently I only have these running:
Glowing battery lifesaver, Device test, Google Services(3), com.sec.android.app.FlashBarService, Google Play Music, Snote and Samsung keyboard.
3) screen brightness set to 30%, only crank up when needed.
Good luck

This fixed my battery issue. Thank you. I guess software does matter

ROM with best "screen time"

I am using CM12.1, but I think there is extreme battery draining. It's fine with screen off, but I can see percentage falling down when I am using the device.
I am not able to get more than 1:40-1:50 hours of screen on.
Is there ROM or Android version with better parameters? I do not want to charge my phone 2,3 times per day.
Thanks.

KitKat (ShinyROM, OmniROM, and FML-KK) has quite amazing screen on time
as far as Lollipop, FML and ZMod are almost the best you could get beyond KitKat, IMO stay away from CyanogenMod 12.x on older devices like ours
But for now, i strongly say KitKat for Screen On Time due to the RAM not being through the roof
Thanks for reply. I will try one of this ROMs.
One more question. It has been long time I've used Titanium Backup and stuff like this.
How can I backup my apps/app settings from CM12.1 and restore them later on some KK ROM?
